AUSTRALIAN GP – THE TRACK

With a few days passed since the last Grand Prix of the season, which was held in Darwin, Australia last weekend, it is important to reflect on what was not only a great event, but also a very special motocross track.

Most of the riders enjoyed the layout and how the track was prepared. Dutchman, Glenn Coldenhoff, who finished on the podium on Sunday was extra happy with how the event was organized.

“For me, it has been incredible, track wise one of the best I have ridden. A lot of line choices and you could move around on the track. After each session, people were waiting for us with water, and you cannot believe how nice that is when it is so hot. I think they should get Grand Prix of the year award.”

New World MXGP champion, Romain Febvre agreed with Coldenhoff and is looking forward to seeing more tracks with this same type of preparation, as they Australian track builders or the people who prepared the track after each race knew their job.

“Actually, the same as what Glenn said. The track was a little bit small on lap times, but preparation was really good. Normally, the track would be rock hard, but they prepared the track so well. Watering was perfect, not too much and it was great preparation, and they made today, like, every corner had double lines, outside and inside and we don’t always have that. Many tracks are often one lines. The organization was good and also the paddock area, a bit like Qatar. It is good to finish the season with this type of track and organization."

Saturday qualification winner and second in the world MXGP championship points, Lucas Coenen felt it was one of the best tracks he has ever ridden and enjoyed the experience a lot.

“I mean, when I went out in free practice, I told my mechanic, this is one of the best tracks I have ever ridden. So fun to ride and bumpy from the first session, which is impressive. The layout is fun to ride, and you find a bit of everything with this track. I can say one word, I love it.”

Kiara Fontanesi who won the Saturday moto for the women, felt the circuit was a blessing, with it being very rough, and a real challenge for the ladies.

“I do like the track; we should have them like this in Europe as well. Going into free practice and it was already rough, and it took me some time to get used to that. It was rough and you also needed to be smart to ride the bike. I wish we could have the same ground in Europe.”

Now all the riders will be looking forward to the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, when the best in the world again head down under and experience what is a magnificent event, with a perfect racetrack and organization.
