Liam Everts and the Monster Energy FIM MXoN

The motocross world got excited on Sunday, with the greatest Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations rider of all time, Stefan Everts heard his son Liam, will represent Team Belgium at this event. For the family it is a third generation of Everts racing for their country, as Harry Everts rode for Team Belgium in the 1970’s and 80’s.

While Liam Everts is just 17 years of age, he has shown in the last month that he is very quickly reaching world level, and last Sunday beat world MX2 champion Tim Vialle in a Belgian international. As for finding out about racing for Team Belgium, the teenager is excited.

“I found out a few days ago,” Everts said. Johan (Boonen - Belgian team manager) called and said Jago (Geerts) couldn’t race. I think it is good for the experience, to also race with the 450s and it is something to look forward to, it is one of the biggest events. I am looking forward to it. We are not the strongest team I know that and that is normal now, I will just go there and race for myself, get some experience and learn some race craft against the GP guys.”

As for his father Stefan, the multiple MXoN winner feels his son is ready for such an event and feels it is a great experience for somebody so young. Stefan actually had his first ever MXoN when he was also 17 back in 1990.

“I felt comfortable with him going, “Everts said. “Ready for a podium I am not sure. The last weeks, he has made big progress. It is nice for Liam that they took him for example Strijbos who has been there many years and for Liam let’s hope he has a big future ahead of him and he can start riding with the best riders out there. We didn’t expect it, when we heard the rumour and then Johan Boonen talked to us a few weeks ago, that in case Jago doesn’t ride, if Liam would like to ride. We said yes, for sure he wants to do that. A few days before last weekend’s race in Belgium, he asked us again. For Liam, it is awesome. I did my first Nations when I was 17 years old in Sweden at the Vimmerby track, and now Liam is 17 and will do his first at Mantova. That is really cool, really cool for our memory.”

So, for the sports purists, the chance to see another Everts at this magnificent event will be one of the highlights and we all know if he is anything like his father and grandfather, Liam will make an impression amongst the best riders in the world.
