MXGP Academy Activities in Kegums, Latvia

The MXGP Academy is taking place for the third time in 2023 at the MXGP of Latvia at Kegums this weekend. It was the chance for ambitious young motocross riders have come together to refine their talents and discover about what is needed to compete professionally in the FIM Motocross World Championship.  

The youngsters learned from the experienced Jan Postema, Martin van Genderen and John van de Berk as well as local trainers throughout Friday and Saturday.

The MXGP Academy began on Friday with a briefing including riders and parents, followed by a rider’s education session where they learned more about safety rules, such as flag signals and what is the appropriate reaction and received other advice from the coaches.

After the class with the riders, the parent got also briefed and learnt about the value of communication and how to combine verbal and non-verbal techniques. The day ended with a riding session where riders had the opportunity to practice and learn valuable techniques from the trainers.

During Saturday Morning, the youngsters had the opportunity to immerse themselves into the MXGP paddock life, and were lucky to take a tour of the impressive Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Team, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Kawasaki Racing Team structures and discovered how teams prepare themselves for the racing day. 

They also went to look around at the Dunlop’s facilities on site to understand more about tyres which are an important part of the sport and that gave them an all-round overview of motocross.

There will be five more MXGP Academy coaching opportunities during the 2023 season in Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, The Netherlands, Turkyie.
