MXGP OF PORTUGAL MEDIA EVENT LAUNCHES GRAND PRIX WEEKEND IN ÁGUEDA

ÁGUEDA (Portugal) 2 May 2025 – The 2025 MXGP of Portugal was officially launched on Friday with a special media event hosted at the iconic Pateira de Fermentelos, one of the Iberian Peninsula’s most treasured natural landmarks. The gathering served as the ceremonial start to a weekend of world-class motocross in Águeda, offering a moment to celebrate the region’s culture, natural beauty and conviviality.

However, before heading to the media event, riders from the MXGP and MX2 classes took to the track for the Blåkläder Start Practice, the dedicated session designed to fine-tune and finalise key bike settings ahead of the weekend. With starts playing a decisive role in both Saturday’s Qualifying Races and Sunday’s main events, the session is always a highlight of the Friday for the Riders as well as the media and fans present.

The event brought together many riders who were present from both the MXGP and MX2 classes, including Team HRC’s Ruben Fernandez and Ferruccio Zanchi, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo, Lucas and Sacha Coenen, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2’s Rick Elzinga and Karlis Reisulis, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Liam Everts, MX Handel Racing’s Kevin Brumann, Venum Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Jake Cannon and Francisco Garcia, as well as Portuguese stars Luis Outeiro and Lobo Sandro among others.

The picturesque lakefront venue – a designated RAMSAR site and part of the NATURA 2000 network – served as the perfect backdrop. Known locally as “the enchanted lake,” the Pateira is a symbol of Águeda’s commitment to nature, sustainability and quality of life.

Adding cultural depth to the occasion was a performance by the Grupo Folclórico Senhora da Saúde de Fermentelos, who showcased the region’s musical and ethnographic heritage with traditional costumes, dance, and song faithful to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In a light-hearted and memorable moment, the group invited the riders and guests to join in the traditional dancing, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Guests were also treated to a taste of local gastronomy, with iconic regional dishes such as the renowned “Leitão da Bairrada” and “Pastéis de Águeda”, which could be accompanied by the exceptional wines and sparkling selections from the Bairrada region.

The MXGP of Portugal will completely kicked off continues through the weekend at the Águeda circuit, with racing across the MXGP, MX2, EMX125 and EMX250 categories.
