Tim Gajser interview

Defending MXGP World champion Tim Gajser of the HRC Racing team is holding down third place in the series points after the first two rounds in Qatar and Indonesia. Not feeling well in either of the first two races, he will head to Argentina this weekend with high hopes of returning to the top of the GP podium.

“We have to work,” Gajser said. “We made mistakes in these first two GPs. I am happy these are gone, I went home, recharged the batteries, and can go to Argentina fit and ready. I just went back home, chilled a little, because I still felt a little sick in Indonesia, then trained hard for Argentina. I like that track, so it should be a good weekend.”

In the last round in Indonesia Gajser didn’t do too badly, finishing seventh overall, but it could have been a lot better, had it not been for still feeling the effects of his sickness in Qatar, and also having trouble with the mud.

“I was quite happy I had taken solid points from the weekend. The first race felt like it was a case of surviving the race. I felt like I was normal for the first 10-15 minutes, I was in second place and almost catching the leader and then I just suddenly destroyed myself and I am not really sure why or how it happened, I just didn’t feel my best. I just rode until the end to get points. Overall I am not actually that happy with the weekend, but sometimes the bad races are not so bad and we have a chance to have a break and get ready for a better race in Argentina.”

The opening round in Qatar was a disaster, as he was throwing up before the racing, and really struggling with his health.

“Yeah I was actually really happy overall with the weekend. It didn’t start the best as I have been really sick all weekend, but I was able to achieve two good races despite this. The first race I didn’t have the best start and I had to battle with Bobryshev and Desalle all race. It was tough to pass because there was only actually one fast line and the other lines were not the same speed. In the second race, I had a better start, I was leading and I pulled a gap between myself and Cairoli. Then, in the last two laps I was destroyed and I couldn’t give anymore but I am happy to start the season with second overall this weekend.”

Now onto Argentina, where he will do his best to regain his red plate, and maybe even stand on top of the podium for the first time this year.
