Jack Chambers – Time Off

While we have all enjoyed the arrival of American Jack Chambers to the MX2 class in 2023, the youngster has put together some solid performances, it all went pear shaped in the last round in Germany when the Steve Dixon Big Van World Kawasaki rider picked up an injury and will be out for a few rounds, missing the Indonesia double header and possibly a couple of more rounds once we return to Europe.

Team owner Steve Dixon, who had signed Chambers up after the first round in Argentina was excited to see how the American rider could do in the tough conditions in Germany but knows that Chambers will be back once he recovers from his injury. Dixon not one to make excuses wasn’t about to let his rider race if it meant further injury.

“We were looking forward to a good weekend,” Dixon said. “We've had great success at the track here in Germany with a podium last year. Unfortunately, Jack went down hard, it was a slow speed crash but because it was going down the embankment the impact was worse. We were all set to race Sunday with the ankle strapped up - but advice from Jack’s doctors to get a CT scan showed a fracture that could have got worse if he raced. It requires a simple screw surgery, which he had and then we can look at the recovery times from there.”

Chambers, who has enjoyed and learnt a lot by racing in Europe will now rest up and return when he feels his injury is healed well enough to put in some more solid performances. Having spent time at home between the Latvian and the German Grand Prix, knows that his time in MXGP isn’t over just yet and he will be back ASAP.

“During the qualifying race on Saturday,” Chambers said. “I sustained a broken ankle after getting cross-rutted going up the biggest hill on the track. I almost had it saved, but as I went off the track a strap from the overhead banner/tower caught my wheel and put me down hard. I am so bummed to have had such a rough go with bad luck lately. I will take this time to reflect on the amazing experiences I’ve had and the people I’ve met… I’m down but don’t count me out, I’ll be back.”

The American will be back as soon as possible and despite this set-back, he has loved racing the toughest motocross series in the World and will return with his countrymen watching his every step. One of the highlights of having an American involved in the series is the extra eyes watching from across the Atlantic.
