Fernandez, Boisrame, Moreau & Kovacs set the pace in Spain

EL MOLAR (Spain), 18 July 2015 - The fast and flowing track built on the rolling countryside of El Molar, Spain got the ball rolling for the 2015 FIM Junior 125cc and 85cc Motocross World Championships and European Open 65cc Championship today.

In stifling hot and extremely dry conditions, the young racers gave it their all on the rock hard clay in bid for the top qualifying positions and early advantage for the main events tomorrow.

FIM Junior 125cc Motocross World Championship

Skating was the name of the game in the first practice this morning with the Junior 125cc Group A being the first class head to out onto the track. Due to the heat, the track had been constantly watered from the early hours of the morning in effort to keep the dust down. Despite being saturated, by time the qualifying sessions had come around it was already really dry and dusty.

Although he wasn’t the fastest in free practice, once the surface had dried out it was Spain’s home rider Ruben Fernandez Garcia who looked right at home as he power slid his way to pole in the Junior 125cc Group A. “I might have a little bit of an advantage because I am used to these conditions, but everyone is fast anyway” the Spaniard said.

In Group B, France’s Mathys Boisrame was the solid bet all day. Boisrame had the track dialed both in moist and dry conditions as he topped the charts in Group B’s free practice and qualifying. “I took a while to make a fast lap time in the timed practice, everyone can ride almost the same speed around this track, there is nothing really difficult to make the difference. But near the end I made the fastest lap time. I know it is just timed qualifying though, racing is always different.”

KTM Factory Junior’s Conrad Mewse was also laying in some super fast laps. The former Junior 85cc World Champion looked comfortable throughout the whole session but it was shaving around one second off of his lap time on a last lap blinder that shot him to second place in Qualifying Group A.

Finishing 0.300 behind Boisrame in Group B was Australia’s Hunter Lawrence. Lawrence led the way out onto the track in the qualifier and went right to work. The Aussie initially was the one who set the pace in that group before being over taken by the Frenchmen Boisrame and Bourdon, while he couldn’t quite match the pace of Boisrame, he did get Bourdon back to finish second in Group B.

Rounding out the top three in Group A was the Italian Davide Cislaghi, who is known for his ability to start in the European Championship EMX125. If Cislaghi can be consistent in his lap times tomorrow and get a blistering start, which is normally the case for him, a good result should be in the works.

The third fastest in Group B was Anthony Bourdon who also appeared to be enjoying the clay and constant change in elevation here in El Molar, while KTM Factory Juniors’ Spanish young gun Jorge Prado only set the tenth fastest lap time in his group, group A, 1.8 seconds off the fellow Spaniard Ruben Fernandez Garcia who was the fastest.

FIM Junior 85cc Motocross World Championship

By the time the 85cc riders zipped out on track for their timed qualifying session, it was already very hard, dry and slick. Nevertheless, these kids weren’t scared to get hard on the gas and let the rear end step out as they pinned it for pole.

This amazing track was a playground for France’s Brian Moreau who was reveling the hard surface and elevation as he rode the wheels off of his Kawasaki 85cc for pole.

Even though Dutch riders are said to be sand specialists, Holland’s Rick Elzinga proved he can ride clay just as fast when he set the second fastest time of the session. While Denmark’s Bastian Boegh Damm was third only fractionally slower.

With next to nothing separating the laptimes in the top five, Austria’s Rene Hofer was fourth ahead of Czech Republic’s Petr Polak.

European Open 65cc

It was a surprise start to the weekend for JD19 KTM Racing TE’s Adam Kovacs who had his little 65cc wide open here in El Molar. Kovacs said he struggled with the heat a little bit and couldn’t believe he set the fastest lap time after landing hard off of a jump and breaking his bike. Despite facing a few problems Kovacs set a blistering pace and took pole 1.2 seconds clear of Kay Karrsemakers.

As for Karrsemakers, another Dutch rider who prefers excels on the softer surfaces, he was also looking super fast on the blue groove clay regardless of his roots. The young Dutchman was second in qualifying ahead of Czech Republic’s Radek Vetrovsky who was the fastest in free practice.

Rounding out the top five, a Spaniard, Raul Sanchez Garcia flew the flag for the hosting nation with his fourth place finish while France’s Florian Miot was fifth.

European Open 65cc Qualifying Practice Top Ten: 1. Adam Zsolt Kovacs (HUN, KTM), 2:07.397; 2. Kay Karssemakers (NED, KTM), +0:01.207; 3. Radek Vetrovski (CZE, KTM), +0:01.474; 4. Youthstream representative Miss Patricia Maskarova followed sharing her glee and thanks to the organizers and all of the nations in attendance. President of the Motorclub El Molar, Mr Jose Luis Alvarez, said “it has been a dream for us to host the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship here in El Molar, we have been working towards it for the last three or four years so we are thankful to Youthstream, the FIM and everyone here.” As a gesture of thanks, Youthstream presented Mr Jose Luis Alvarez with a gold plate for his efforts in organizing this event.

First ever Ride Green Cup!

This coming weekend the Spanish town of El Molar, will host one of the most anticipated events of the season at the circuit of El Molar, close to Madrid and surrounded by the amazing Jarama Mountains. Around one hundred and fifty riders from twenty-nine nations will attend this weekend’s FIM Junior Motocross World Championship, which this year includes a new prize for  the “greenest” team.

This award is for the team that shows the best behaviour towards supporting and crusading for positive environmental actions. The cup that will be the first to deliver by the International Motorcycling Federation in the context of a sporting event, aims to educate young riders about the importance of participating in an environmentally compatible event and thus providing integrated education of such matters at the same time. Furthermore as already part of the sport regulations demand, the FIM requires organisers to follow a series of conditions ensuring the environmental sustainability of the race as well as a total respect for the environment. A panel of sport and sustainability experts will be present during the weekend to evaluate and advise the teams as part of the many actions developed by the International Environment Commission of the FIM. The most important point is to show to the juniors that they must respect our planet as part of their sport.

Giuseppe Luongo President of Youthstream

'For our company it is very important to work to high standards at all levels, in order to develop high-level races and events that have an appropriate infrastructure to accommodate large numbers of spectators, serve better to our VIPs, press, riders etc. Motocross is an absolutely fantastic sport, very photogenic, extreme, appealing to fans, but we also understand that as an activity that takes place in contact with nature it may cause some impact.  The positive impact we try to maximise and the negative impact we try to minimise by working hand in hand with the FIM through the application of their environment rules during the competitions, also the recently launched Ride Quiet campaign and this year we are fully supporting the FIM Ride Green Cup to ensure its success. We believe that the future of the sport will largely depend on the respect that we as promotors, organisers and practitioners of this sport show towards nature.'

Tony Skillington, Director of the FIM Motocross Commission

'The FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in El Molar will go into history as the event where the first edition of the “FIM Ride Green Cup” was held. Motocross is not always warmly welcomed by the environmentalists. However many seem to forget that the FIM was the first international sports federation ever to draft an Environmental Code in 1997. More recently, the FIM launched its “Ride Quiet” campaign in motocross showing its “green” engagement again. And now, it is time for the “FIM Ride Green Cup” which aims to reach and educate competitors at their youngest age. Or as they say: ‘The lessons of our youth are carried for a lifetime’. Juniors, the time is now!'

Kattia Juárez Hernandez, Director of the FIM International Environment Commission

My beginnings in the motorcycling world were beside my son Guillermo who was a renowned motocross rider from the age of 4. Every weekend we visited different motocross tracks and increasingly noted that it was essential to organise races that leave no environmental footprint.  The sport greatly contributed to modelling the character of Guillermo and I verify that it is definitely at an early age that we can sow seeds of sustainability with our youngsters. Today young people have an environmental awareness higher than previous generations and it is our responsibility as leaders to contribute to an integrated education. The Ride Green Cup is an excellent formula to show our young riders, in a fun way, the importance of incorporating sustainable practices in their sport and to train them in a comprehensive manner. Athletes are an excellent vehicle to raise awareness in their community, with them being exemplary sports persons. Because ‘To be a real champion they must respect the planet’.

Juniors are ready to set fire to the world in El Molar

EL MOLAR (Spain) 15 June 2015 - This weekend more than one hundred of the world’s fastest youths from more than thirty-one nations, will showcase their talent on an international scale as they go bar to bar for FIM Junior Motocross World Championship glory. The venue set to be taken over by the sweet smell of burning pre-mix is El Molar, Spain, a small community only 39km north of the Spanish capital Madrid. Three titles will be won this weekend, two riders will be crowned world champion in the 125cc and 85cc classes and one rider will be crowned 65cc European Open winner. All three champions will receive a Scott voltage mountain bike courtesy of our sponsor Scott Sports.

FIM Junior 125cc Motocross World Championship

The 125cc class is more or less the last step for a young rider before entering the premier amateur class, European Championship EMX250, or the elite FIM Motocross World Championship MX2. Some of the hottest prospects for the world title this year are, of course, the KTM Factory Juniors squad of Spanish sensation Jorge Prado Garcia, the New Zealander Josiah Natzke and the former Junior 85cc World Champion from Great Britain Conrad Mewse.

Natzke and Prado are respectively second and third in the European Championship EMX125 class while leading that championship is Kemea Yamaha Yamalube’s young French star Maxime Reneaux, who is also a solid bet for the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship gold plate.

Other names that stand out, but of course not all as there are, as always, expected to be some dark horses, are KTM De Carli’s Gianluca Fachetti, DP19 Racing Yamaha’s Andrea Zanotti, and the EMX125 hot starter Davide Cislaghi. Also adding to the line-up of mega talented shredders are Spain’s Ruben Fernandez Garcia, the 2014 European Championship EMX85 champion Jago Geerts, Denmark’s Glen Meier and Finland’s Miro Sihvonen.

FIM Junior 85cc Motocross World Championship

Forty screaming 85cc’s took over Latvia last weekend for the final of the European Championship EMX85 which gave us a little insight on what to look forward to this weekend.

First of all, HSF Logistics Motorsport Team’s Raivo Dankers is definitely a good call for the win. Dankers won in both wet and dry conditions last weekend to claim his second European Championship title. If anyone was going to be up for the challenge though, it would have been Denmark’s Mikkel Haarup. Haarup won the final moto in the JWC 85cc last year and was extremely fired up for this weekend after struggling to stay on his bike in the mud of Latvia but unfortunately, news struck this morning that the Dane crashed in practice yesterday and broke his shoulder.

Brian Van Der Klij and Bastian Boegh Damm made the class greener when they landed their Kawasaki’s on the second and third steps on the podium in the EMX85 final last weekend, while Rick Elzinger was also mega fast, but struggled in the mud, luckily this weekend the weather forecast shows no sign of rain. Wrapping up some of the familiar names in the 85cc class, the Honda European Championship EMX150 red plate holder Emil Weckman will throw a bit of oil in his unleaded petrol this weekend so he can take on the world.

European Open 65cc

These little guys are all legends! They are riding bikes that weigh more than they do on tracks made for people triple their age. The two riders that stand out are Kay Karrsemakers and Martin Venhoda after their impressive rides last weekend. Meanwhile it will also be cool to see how Liam Everts, the son of Europe’s GOAT (greatest of all time) Stefan Everts, does in his world stage debut.
