MXGP of Trentino, Pietramurata and Garda Trentino to run behind closed doors

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 28 October 2020 – MXGP is set to begin the triple-header in Pietramurata, this weekend, as we head into the final three rounds of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship.

The MXGP of Trentino was originally scheduled to take place on the 4-5th of April, though due to the coronavirus pandemic the event was postponed to a later stage, and then became one of the special Italian triple-headers for this season.

Infront Moto Racing has been in close cooperation with the local authorities and the event organiser MOTOCLUBARCO ALTOGARDA OFFROAD, though despite all efforts from both parties and with all the latest regulations on the Italian decree, which will see many restrictions in Italy, the possibility of welcoming fans to the circuit will not be possible during the three GP’s in Pietramurata and the event will run behind closed doors.

Though fans will still be able to watch all the action unfold during the last Italian triple-header from the comfort of their homes with MXGP-TV.com, which will air all the races LIVE, including the EMX, WMX, MX2 and MXGP races as we gear up to find out who will it be that becomes the 2020 European and World Champions!

Anyone who purchased tickets for the upcoming Grand Prix races in Pietramurata will receive more information about the reimbursement of their tickets soon.

The MXGP of Trentino has been part of the MXGP Calendar for many years and every season produces some of the best race action. In 2019, we were all treated to one of the most intense and most talked about races of the year as Antonio Cairoli and Tim Gajser went head-to-head in the races for the overall victory. And this season will be no different as the pair will battle it out once again, but this time with much higher stakes, the MXGP title, as 74 points separate the two championship rivals as we reach the grand finale of the 2020 Motocross World Championship season.

Isak Gifting joins GASGAS Factory Racing

Rising Swedish star set to race alongside Simon Langenfelder in Diga Procross GASGAS Factory Racing Team in 2021.

GASGAS Motorcycles are excited to welcome Isak Gifting as their newest factory racer! One of the hottest prospects in the MX2 World Championship right now, the young Swede will remain in red and take on his first full season of MX2 competition following his sensational performances as a stand-in rider during recent GPs. Joining the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing team for 2021, Isak will compete alongside the returning Simon Langenfelder with both racing on our proven MC 250F.

Crowned Swedish 125cc Youth National Champion in 2016 and 2017 following a number of years racing in domestic youth championships, Gifting went on to enter a limited number of EMX250 rounds in 2018. His season highlight came in Latvia where he placed a strong ninth overall before lining up for a full season in 2019. Continually improving, Isak ended the year with an impressive fifth overall at the final round in his native Sweden.

2020 saw Isak line up for a second full term of EMX250 racing. Continuing his strong form, overall podium finishes at the opening three rounds marked a serious improvement in the 19-year-old’s speed. While ranked third in the championship, an offer from DIGA Procross GASGAS team manager Justin Amian to compete in the MX2 World Championship saw Isak switch series’ and get his first taste of top-flight MX2 competition, as a fill-in rider.

Grabbing the opportunity with both hands, Isak joined the team at round nine, immediately claiming top-10 overall results despite very little time to prepare. Turning heads at the latest round, the MXGP of Lommel, he battled with established MX2 stars and charged hard to claim 8-2 results for fifth overall.

With his sights set high and with just three rounds of the 2020 season remaining, Gifting is focused on doing all he can to claim an overall podium result and complete his exceptional year in the best way possible.

Simon Langenfelder will return to the team for 2021, his second term of MX2 World Championship action. Having shown flashes of speed throughout this season before an untimely leg injury, the young German is fully focused on his recovery and looking ahead to prepare for the new season.

Isak Gifting: “It’s an amazing feeling to continue with the DIGA Procross GASGAS team in 2021 as a full factory rider. Riding Grands Prix has been a dream of mine since I was a little boy and now I’ve made it. Racing for a factory team, it’s just unbelievable. The bike is fantastic and having a solid team around me with a great manager, mechanics and a trainer gives me a lot of confidence. I have a great feeling going into 2021. I can’t wait to have a full winter of testing with the team and I’m sure that together we can achieve some great results.”

Simon Langenfelder: “I’m really looking forward to 2021. I was just starting to put together decent results this season before my crash in Faenza. It was a disappointing way to end the season. Fortunately, I have a great team around me, and I’m almost fully recovered so we can begin our preparation for the new season really soon. I’m excited for the future. I know the bike is good so being able to continue with the DIGA Procross GASGAS team is a great feeling.”

Justin Amian – DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing Team Manager: “We’re really excited for the 2021 season with Isak joining the team alongside Simon. Since Isak joined us as a fill-in rider he’s done nothing but impress me and the rest of the team. His results speak for themselves. Continual progression and he’s really made the best of the opportunity that we gave him. He is incredibly strong-minded, a real fighter on the track and his fitness is incredible so it was an easy decision to have him join our team. We believe in him and he believes in us. We also know that Simon can deliver great results, as he started to show this year. His injury was really unfortunate, but we know that he is fully focused on his preparations for 2021. We look forward to a great off-season of testing ahead of next year and we’re excited for the future with Isak and Simon."

Ben Watson Joins Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team for 2021

Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to announce that Ben Watson will take an exciting step up the Yamaha Racing pyramid and will join the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team for the 2021 MXGP season.

The 23-year-old from Nottinghamshire, England joined Yamaha and the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team in 2018, where he celebrated his first podium finish and ranked fourth in the FIM MX2 World Championship in his first term on the YZ250F, the British rider has made great progress.

Proving his potential, Watson bounced back from an injury struck 2019 season to add five more podium successes to his credit, including a first-ever Grand Prix win at this weekend's MXGP of Lommel. Immediately after celebrating his victory on the podium, the young Brit was delighted to learn that he would be drafted in the Factory MXGP team, where he will campaign a YZ450FM in his rookie MXGP season.

Part of a strong strategy to develop the next generation of MXGP champions, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team will remain a three-rider line-up in 2021. Watson will join Jeremy Seewer as the Swiss rider enters his fourth year with Yamaha and third year as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory rider, while the rider who will fill the third and final slot in the team will be announced in the very near future.

Ben Watson, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Rider: “Firstly, I want to thank each and every member of staff in Kemea. The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team gave me everything and more every day for three years. I am so grateful to join the Factory MXGP team and stay with my Yamaha Family. It means so much to me and I cannot wait for this new challenge. I have been lucky enough to work closely and get to know Louis Vosters, Vitaliy Tonkov and some of the other Wilvo team members and I know I will be welcomed with open arms. I truly believe the YZ450FM will be a great bike for my riding style and I am really motivated to show everyone what I can do in MXGP. I know the category is at such a high level, so I am fortunate to join a team with a lot of experience, success and motivation. I really want to learn and show progression, it’s what I work towards every year and with the experience of my teammates in MXGP, I know I will be able to gain a lot of knowledge and continue my development. I am so excited to get started now and jump on this amazing bike to prepare for the new season.”

Louis Vosters, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team Owner: “It’s really nice to have a young rider like Ben in our team especially because he grew up with the Yamaha Family and now, he is ready to step up into the MXGP Factory team. We think Ben has a great potential and we are looking forward to work together in the coming years.”

Alexandre Kowalski, Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager: “We are really happy to keep Ben inside the Yamaha Family by moving him up to the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team. It’s just rewards for Ben’s hard work and dedication to training and racing, and his commitment to Yamaha as well. At Yamaha it is our mission to develop riders and make it possible for them to achieve their dreams within the Yamaha family, and like Thibault Benistant stepping up from the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team to the Hutten Metaal Yamaha Official EMX250 team and then to the Monster Energy Yamaha.
