Managing The Champion Team

Marcus Pereira de Freitas the Team HRC general manager for their MXGP effort can feel proud to be involved with the MXGP championships by his rider Tim Gajser. Obviously, the Slovenian does the racing, but the efforts within the team has made the job of Gajser much easier. As Gajser always says, a happy racer is a fast racer and the whole Honda attitude is enjoying the moments.

It isn’t always about just Gajser within the HRC tent, in fact their support of young Australian Mitch Evans has also been a critical part of making sure the team has a good attitude and everyone is walking around with a smile on their faces.

“It’s been another long, tough but successful season.” Pereira de Freitas said. “We are all heading to Turkey to finish this 2022 season off strongly. Tim really showed everyone his champion-mentality to win in France and we are hoping he can do that again and break even more records this season. Mitch has been knocking on the door of the podium for these last few rounds and we are all really hoping he can make that final step and get it done this weekend. I would like to thank everyone in Japan and everyone in the team who has kept working so hard and maintained such a high level of performance this year. It hasn’t been easy, but we have a great group of people and I think that shows in our work ethic and our results.”

Pereira de Freitas, who took over the managerial roll from HRC veteran Roger Harvey many years ago has turned into one of the coolest managers in the paddock, and the success in 2022 and the vibe within the HRC team has been one of the outstanding combinations in the sport.

“It was awesome for Tim to win the title with two rounds still to race, he’s done so well all year and it’s amazing what he’s been able to accomplish in his career. Five world titles at his age puts him up there with the very best of our sport and he still has plenty of time to climb even higher. It is a pleasure to work alongside him, and we all hope he can add to even more championships under the Team HRC awning. Now we are focused on him and Mitch doing as best they can in St Jean D’Angely this weekend, and we are confident they can both be successful.”

So, now as the HRC team head to Turkey, the final round of the 2022 season, you just know they red boys will be working hard soon after and within the winter months to give Tim Gajser the best chance to become a six time World motocross champion in 2023 and going by this year, they will be very hard to stop.

2022 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations Entry List!

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 1 September 2022 – Infront Moto Racing is delighted to share the 2022 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations entry list of the teams that will go head-to-head on September 24th and 25th for the Chamberlain Trophy!

This year the iconic event will return to America’s legendary track of RedBud in Michigan, the host of the 2018 edition of the Monster Energy FIM MXoN that saw Team France win their fifth title on the bounce.

Among the 34 different teams, some of the favourites to win this year include the likes of Team USA with their riders Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton who will look at breaking their 11-year dry spell and get back on top while Team Italy’s Antonio Cairoli, Andrea Adamo and Mattia Guadagnini will be hoping to make it two wins on the bounce!

Team France are also looking strong this year with Maxime Renaux, Marvin Musquin and Dylan Ferrandis, as well as Team Netherlands’ Glenn Coldenhoff, Kay de Wolf and Calvin Vlaanderen and Team Australia’s Mitch Evans, Hunter Lawrence and Jett Lawrence who will also be fighting for top positions.

This year there will also be two new teams entering the Monster Energy FIM MXoN, this includes FIM Latin America with Marco Atezana, Yarod Vargas and Franklin Noguera as well as FIM Europe with Bence Pergel, Julius Mikula and Pavlo Kizlyak.

Take a look at the full provisional entry list below:

Intense MX2 Title Showdown Predicted at the BitCi MXGP of Turkiye

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 30 August 2022 – It’s crunch time in the FIM Motocross World Championship with the final champions awaiting to be crowned at the BitCi MXGP of Turkiye, the final stop of the 2022 campaign.

A big weekend is ahead for the title hopefuls in MX2 as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle enter the last round separated by just two points. The previous Grand Prix saw Vialle win on home soil, while Geerts was forced to settle for third, but there is no doubt that both riders will bring their ‘A game’ to the final race of the year in the hope of taking home the golden plate.

Alongside the final rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship, we will also see the last round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship that is currently being led by Nancy Van De Ven who is 25-points ahead of JK Yamaha Racing’s Lynn Valk. Shana Van der Vlist is third just a further 13 points behind, and just 3-points ahead of Larissa Papenmeier, which means that the medal-scoring positions are still up for grabs!

The same can be said for the EMX Open Championship that is currently headed by JD Gunnex KTM Racing’s Jose Butron, with Tomas Kohut in second position, 34-points behind, while Michael Sandner is third, a further 11 points adrift.

In MXGP, the title has already been decided and safely lies in the hands of Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who was also the overall winner at the MXGP of Charente Maritime. The Slovenian will no doubt be looking to add another GP win in Afyon and end his championship-winning season on a high!

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer occupies the silver medal position, which he is not in any danger of losing after a string of impressive performances that saw the Swiss podium the last three Grand Prix in a row, one of which was an overall victory. The Yamaha rider also came close to another GP win last time around in Saint Jean d'Angely, though was beat on the final lap by a hard-charging Gajser who passed him and Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado.

The final medal scoring position is all to play for between Prado and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff who is just four points behind the Spaniard. Coldenhoff has had some impressive races this year and has been on the podium six times, one of which was an overall GP win. Meanwhile, Prado also has one GP win to his name, but 10 podiums in total, the most recent being in France a couple of weeks ago, which was his first podium in three rounds.

In the second half of the season, Coldenhoff has been stronger, as numerous factors added to Prado's struggle, but hopefully, now the Spaniard is passed that and we will see a close fight for the bronze medal at the BtiCi MXGP of Turkiye this weekend.

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre will enter the final round looking to score that podium finish that he was been close to on several occasions since coming back from injury. There is no denying that Febvre has the speed but putting together two solid races has been the only thing holding him back. The Frenchman has also won the last two qualifying races at two very different types of circuits, so nothing is stopping him from doing the same this weekend in Turkey.

The fight for seventh in the championship standings remains very close between Honda 114 Motorsports’ Ruben Fernandez and Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen who is just one point behind the Spaniard. It will be interesting to see who can come out on top in the last round of the year and occupy 7th in the MXGP Championship.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux and Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Mattia Guadagnini are a pair to watch this weekend as both riders were on the podium last time around in Afyon. Renaux has had a couple of up-and-down weekends recently, while Guadagnini is still finding his feet in the MXGP class, but there’s no counting out the rookies on making things interesting this weekend.

Pauls Jonass (LAT, HUS), 350 p.; 10. Mitchell Evans (AUS, HON), 296 p.;

In MX2, it’s crunch time for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle who enter the final GP of the season separated by just two points.

While Geerts holds the slim advantage, it’s Vialle who is probably in the better position out of the two. The Frenchman has won the last two Grand Prix on the bounce in Finland and France, and he also dominated the doubleheader in Turkey last year, which means he will be full of confidence coming into this weekend.

Geerts’ results from last year in Turkey were 6th and 8th overall, which will not be good enough to secure the title, meaning he will need to bring his best performance to Afyon and arrive both mentally and physically strong if he wants to get his hands on his very first world title in MX2.

While the first and second place positions are yet to be decided, Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder has no pressure coming into this weekend as he sits comfortably in third and has no big risk of losing that as he is 61 points ahead of his closest rival F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Kevin Horgmo who is fourth.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Thibault Benistant is currently fifth in the standings and will enter the last event off the back of a podium at his home GP where he finished second overall behind Vialle. Despite a shoulder injury, Benistant managed to go 2-1 for the second step and will no doubt be eyeing up the podium again this weekend.

This weekend there are a few familiar faces making wildcard appearances which include the 2022 EMX250 Champion Rick Elzinga from Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing who will line up in MX2 as he prepares for his move up to the world championship category next season. His teammate Andrea Bonacorsi will be racing in MX2 this weekend too, along with Fantic Factory Team Maddii’s Haakon Osterhagen as well as his teammate Cas Valk who recently secured the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing title in Finland. It will be interesting to see what the wildcard riders can do and if they can get in the mix with the front runners and make for some even more exciting racing!

David Luongo – Editorial – August 2022

Dear MXGP Friends,

Here we are! The last Grand Prix of the season will take place this week in Afyon, Turkiye!

In August the MXGP went back to historical venues. Sweden was missing in the calendar since the COVID-19 pandemic, and our comeback to Finland was also expected by all the Scandinavian fans for a long time as the last Grand Prix in Hyvinkää took place in 2014! And it was in Finland where Tim Gajser secured his fifth world title after a fantastic season. He has been the only rider in the MXGP class to hold the red plate and he has led 184 laps in total this year. This season is probably the most accomplished for him. Tim is a fantastic ambassador for our sport. His personal story is probably one of the best examples for the kids that want to succeed in sport. He went through all the European classes from the EMX65cc, EMX85cc, EMX125cc with great success before winning the MX2 and MXGP categories. At 25 years old, he is definitely one of best talents of the History of our sport, and he still has a lot of chapters to write in the upcoming years!

While in MXGP the title has been decided, the MX2 class has been breathtaking during the whole season. The battle between Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts started from the very first round of the championship. After some roller-coaster moments, we will arrive in Turkiye with an all or nothing race for both of them. With only two points difference for the leader Geerts, it is sure that this final Grand Prix will be one of the most exciting of the history.

Last weekend the Junior World Championship took place in the city of Vantaa, Finland. More than 160 young riders coming from 26 different countries came together to try to win the 65cc, 85cc and 125cc titles. In the end it was Lucas Leok from Estonia, and the two Dutch riders Gyan Doensen and Ivano Van Erp who proved to be the bests over the weekend in their respective classes. The JWC has always been a platform for future champions and we have no doubt that the next Gajser was present during last weekend!

On a separate note we would like to welcome RAM in the MXGP family. This cooperation is a great sign for motocross and MXGP, as a global and iconic car brand is joining the championship to support our sport.

Finally in three weeks’ time, the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations will be back in USA, on the fantastic track of Red Bud! We cannot wait to be there for what will be considered as one of the biggest events in the History. Some of the favorite nations have already announced their line up and the quality of the riders present is impressive. Will USA bring back the Chamberlain Trophy on their home soil with Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper and Chase Sexton? Will Italy keep it with Antonio Cairoli, Mattia Guadagnini and Andrea Adamo? Some outsiders are also coming with very strong teams like Australia, Spain, France, The Netherlands and Japan. It will be for sure as usual unpredictable and exciting until the last lap! For those who will not be able to come and live the moment onsite, you will be able to follow the whole weekend on www.MXGP-TV.com from Friday with the famous riders’ parade on Friday, the ballot and all the actions on Saturday and Sunday.

I would like to thank FIM, FIM Europe, all our organizers, the MXGP partners, the teams and the riders, for their collaboration.

I wish you a good summer and see you in Turkiye!

Tim Gajser Voted Best Rider Sponsored by Athena at the MXGP of Charente Maritime

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 22 August 2022 – For the 2022 season of the FIM Motocross World Championship, we see the return of a very exciting competition, that is the Best Rider of the Year Sponsored by Athena.

Throughout the season fans have the opportunity to cast their votes race-by-race and decide who becomes the ‘Best Rider of the Year Sponsored by Athena’ in MXGP at the end of this year’s championship.

Votes are tallied at every Grand Prix, with the ‘Best Rider of the GP’ being chosen during each event of 2022. The rider who is voted the most times as the best rider, will walk away with the ultimate prize and be presented with the special award for ‘Best Rider of the Year Sponsored by Athena’!

How to vote:

Every Grand Prix Sunday a dedicated post is shared on MXGP’s official Instagram page under which fans can comment who their favourite rider of the weekend is. This competition is only for MXGP riders and the voting closes at 8pm on Sunday.

The comments are then counted and the rider with the most votes is chosen as the best rider of that GP.

At the MXGP of Charente Maritime, the overall Grand Prix winner, Tim Gajser of Team HRC was voted as the Best Rider of the Grand Prix after receiving 51.1% of the votes compared to Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer who received 21.5% and Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado who got 15.9%.

The Best Rider of the Year Sponsored by Athena competition will conclude at the BitCi MXGP of Turkey where we will officially crown the champions of 2022!
