Artem Guryev sidelined for final MXGP leg

In mutual agreement with his JM Honda Racing team Artem Guryev (24) has decided to sit out the final MXGP triple header in Trentino. Consecutive injuries and the short time for recovery in between events have demanded their toll on the former Russian MX2 runner up.

Artem wasn’t 100% up to fitness going into the three Lommel events but suffered another get-off  in the final moto on Sunday. Artem Guryev: “I hurt my wrist pretty badly and trying to catch up to the other guys while you’re recovering is definitely not the best option. This is why we decided not to line up for the races in Pietramurata.”

JM Honda Racing will be heading to Italy with Dylan Walsh and Benoit Paturel where the first round on the Arco di Trento track will rake place on Sunday 1st November.

The title chase is on as MXGP heads to Pietramurata for the MXGP of Trentino!

PIETRAMURATA (Italy) 29 October 2020 – This weekend the FIM Motocross World Championship moves from the sand to the hard-pack of Pietramurata, Italy, for the final trio of races as we conclude this year’s FIM Motocross World Championship.

Pietramurata is one of the most scenic circuits on the MXGP calendar, always producing the best atmosphere and stunning racing. And while the event will run behind closed doors this time around, there just something so special about that place that even without the crowds of cheering fans, it will still guarantee three awesome races.

The stony clay circuit will host the FIM Motocross World Championship for the ninth consecutive time, having become a regular on the MXGP racing calendar since 2012. The first FIM Motocross World Championship race to take place here was back in 1987 that saw Massimo Contini victorious in the 125cc category. Other winners at the hard pack circuit includes the likes of Max Nagl, Clement Desalle, Antonio Cairoli, Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser, just to name a few.

And of course, alongside the MXGP and MX2 World Championships, we will also be joined by the Women’s Motocross World Championship and the EMX Open class during the round of Trentino this weekend.

In WMX, it’s all coming down to the wire as just four points separate Championship leader Nancy Van De Ven from Courtney Duncan of DRT Kawasaki, while Larissa Papenmeier is just a further 2 points back on 160 and Kiara Fontanesi not far behind too on 156 points. And there is no doubt that these ladies will give it their all, as we have seen plenty of times before. For Fontanesi, the round of Trentino is much like a home round and a circuit she enjoys and has had plenty of success at.

While in EMX Open, Karel Kutsar will enter the races here in Italy as the championship leader, ahead of Kim Savaste who sits second in the championship, 21 points ahead of Miro Sihvonen who is third. It has been a while since we have seen the Open class out in action, the last time being the Latvian triple-header, so it will be interesting to see who can perform well on the hard pack over the next three rounds.

Last year, the main attention of the MXGP of Trentino was on the gruelling battle between Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli and Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who had us all on the edge of our seats. The GP in Trentino was a turning point in the championship, as it was the first time that Gajser was able to beat Cairoli, with two race wins, while Cairoli was forced to settle for second.

Now we return to Trentino for the home stretch of this year’s world championship to witness yet another Gajser vs Cairoli battle, as the pair go head-to-head for the title. There are 74 points separating the two in terms of the standings, so every race and every point will be more vital than ever during the upcoming GPs.

Cairoli is someone who knows how to win around here, as he has done so three times before, in 2013, 2016 and 2017. Though his results this weekend will be more important than ever, if he wants to stay in contention for that 10th world title.

Meanwhile for Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s, Clement Desalle, this will be his final stint in the FIM Motocross World Championship as he prepares to hang up his boots at the end of the season. The Belgian won the MXGP of Trentino back in 2014, so it would be good to see the Kawasaki rider add another podium as he concludes his GP racing career.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin was a podium finisher here last season also, as he scored two solid thirds, for third overall. It would be good to see the Frenchman grace the podium once again, following his success in Lommel just over a week ago. Of course, his teammates, Arnaud Tonus, who narrowly missed out on a podium here last year, and Jeremy Seewer, who is pushing to secure a medal this season, as he currently sits third in the championship, will no doubt be pushing for top results too.

2019 MXGP of Trentino Top 3, MXGP:

1.Tim Gajser

2.Antonio Cairoli

3.Gautier Paulin

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 583 points; 2. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 509 p.; 3. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, YAM), 499 p.; 4. Jorge Prado (ESP, KTM), 476 p.; 5. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 465 p.; 6. Gautier Paulin (FRA, YAM), 403 p.; 7. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, GAS), 375 p.; 8. Clement Desalle (BEL, KAW), 362 p.; 9. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, HON), 289 p.; 10. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 263 p.

And in MX2, things are just as interesting as exactly the same point margin divides Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing. And for the pair, it will be an opportunity to go after their first victory in Trentino, as the class was previously dominated by Jorge Prado, who has now moved up to MXGP, leaving the door open for a brand-new winner.

Both riders finished on the podium last year, with Geerts taking to the second step while Vialle was third. And while the pair will be battling for the top spot, there are also two other riders who will no doubt be going at it for as many points as possible and that is Yamaha SM Action MC Migliori J1 Racing’s Maxime Renaux and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jed Beaton who are separated by 20 points for third in the standings.

Additionally, Monster Energy Yamaha Racing’s Ben Watson has been on the rise, with a good podium track record at the previous triple header in Belgium, where the Brit went 3-2-1 during the three GPs. Of course, the terrain will be different this weekend, though looking at last year’s results, Watson went 7-3 here last season, to miss out on the podium by just a mere point, so with that in mind, we could possibly see the Yamaha rider continue his podium success.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen also missed out on a podium spot last season by a single point, just like Watson. During the second half of this season, the Dane has been strong, pushing inside the top 5 during most races and going after race wins too, so it will be interesting to see if he can put in two solid results here in Trentino.

2.Jago Geerts

3.Tom Vialle

Thomas Kjer Olsen (DEN, HUS), 446 p.; 6. Ben Watson (GBR, YAM), 440 p.; 7. Roan Van De Moosdijk (NED, KAW), 417 p.; 8. Conrad Mewse (GBR, KTM), 307 p.; 9. Ruben Fernandez (ESP, YAM), 279 p.; 10. GASGAS Factory Racing sign Pauls Jonass and Brian Bogers

GASGAS Motorcycles have secured the signatures of yet more exciting racers ahead of the 2021 MXGP season! Hard-charging former MX2 World Champion Pauls Jonass teams up with the highly-capable Brian Bogers to complete Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s all-new MXGP rider line-up! With his all-action riding style, Pauls will be the perfect match for the awesome MC 450F as the Latvian looks forward to re-establishing himself as one of the world’s best. Delivering a strong run of results during 2020, Dutchman Bogers is ready to mix it up with the heavy hitters of the MXGP class.

A proven MXGP racer, Jonass entered the grand prix scene in 2014, rapidly progressing to become MX2 World Champion just three years later. Placing as runner-up in 2018, the Latvian then moved to the MXGP class for the following season. In his debut 450cc campaign he was quick to find success, securing three overall podium visits and an impressive sixth place in the final standings.

2020 was set to be Jonass’ breakout year but an untimely training crash ended his season early. Following months of rehabilitation and with his desire for success stronger than ever, he’s now back to full fitness, ready to bang bars and fight for podiums when the gate drops for the start of the 2021 season.

Competing alongside Jonass, Brian Bogers also joins Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing for 2021. Currently ranked 12th in the 2020 MXGP World Championship, the Dutchman has been a constant threat for top-five results during recent GPs. Aiming for the top-10 in the final MXGP standings, Bogers, like his new teammate, will soon head into the off-season focused on testing and preparation ahead of the new MXGP season.

Pauls Jonass: “I’m really excited for my future with GASGAS. I have to thank the Standing Construct team for believing in me while I have been injured but I will be back to 100% and then I can start testing with the team. It’s an exciting time for me and my rehabilitation is going very well. I’m looking forward to a great future together with GASGAS and I look forward to achieving some great results when the 2021 season starts.”

Brian Bogers: “It’s a great feeling to be on the Standing Construct GASGAS team for 2021. I’m really looking forward to next season as I know the team is very professional and the bike is great. They have had impressive results over recent years, so it gives me a lot of confidence. It’s an exciting opportunity. I’ve had a strong season in 2020 and I’m ready for the next step with GASGAS in 2021.”

Tim Mathys – Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing MXGP Team Manager: “We’re excited to have two very capable riders for 2021, that give us an exciting all-new line-up. As a former MX2 World Champion, Pauls Jonass has already achieved great results in MXGP and has proved to be a rider with top-three potential. I am convinced that with the approach we have already used in our team, we can get the very best out of him. He is hugely motivated, and I believe that we can push him to an even higher level, just like we have done with many riders in the past. Our second rider, Brian Bogers, has matured a lot during the past season. He has proven during the last races, with 10 top-10 finishes in a row, that he is ready to have a breakthrough in the MXGP class. He is physically and mentally stronger and ready to compete with the big boys. Both Pauls and Brian are still young, so we will have a young, robust team that we can work closely with. Together with GASGAS Factory Racing we are confident in their abilities, and as a team we look forward to great results from both riders next season.”

MXGP of Trentino, Pietramurata and Garda Trentino to run behind closed doors

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 28 October 2020 – MXGP is set to begin the triple-header in Pietramurata, this weekend, as we head into the final three rounds of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship.

The MXGP of Trentino was originally scheduled to take place on the 4-5th of April, though due to the coronavirus pandemic the event was postponed to a later stage, and then became one of the special Italian triple-headers for this season.

Infront Moto Racing has been in close cooperation with the local authorities and the event organiser MOTOCLUBARCO ALTOGARDA OFFROAD, though despite all efforts from both parties and with all the latest regulations on the Italian decree, which will see many restrictions in Italy, the possibility of welcoming fans to the circuit will not be possible during the three GP’s in Pietramurata and the event will run behind closed doors.

Though fans will still be able to watch all the action unfold during the last Italian triple-header from the comfort of their homes with MXGP-TV.com, which will air all the races LIVE, including the EMX, WMX, MX2 and MXGP races as we gear up to find out who will it be that becomes the 2020 European and World Champions!

Anyone who purchased tickets for the upcoming Grand Prix races in Pietramurata will receive more information about the reimbursement of their tickets soon.

The MXGP of Trentino has been part of the MXGP Calendar for many years and every season produces some of the best race action. In 2019, we were all treated to one of the most intense and most talked about races of the year as Antonio Cairoli and Tim Gajser went head-to-head in the races for the overall victory. And this season will be no different as the pair will battle it out once again, but this time with much higher stakes, the MXGP title, as 74 points separate the two championship rivals as we reach the grand finale of the 2020 Motocross World Championship season.

Jeffrey Herlings on the road to recovery

Four-time Motocross World Champion Jeffrey Herlings might be on the couch again, resting from yet another injury, we all know the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider is already dreaming about 2021 and his chance to add to his 90 Grand Prix victories and picking up another World championship.

Having led this years MXGP championship race by 60 points the Dutchman crashed in Faenza and damaged his back:

“I could move my neck and head, but that was it. I could feel a little bit my fingers, but I struggled for 30 minutes. After about 20 or 30 minutes I started to get feeling again and then after about an hour, I felt like new again. At 4pm on Sunday afternoon I was out of the hospital and I walked out of that place.” Herlings said of his crash in Faenza.

Fortunately he was quickly ready to go racing again, although having spoken with the team, they decided to get an operation on his damaged ankle and come into 2021 fully fit.

“I could start riding three weeks after my crash, but I wanted to get my foot fixed and I had that fixed last week. It is starting to feel better each day and it takes some time to get it recovered and I should be back on the in four weeks, but there is no hurry.”

Now, with two years of missing out on a chance for an MXGP championship because of injury, Herlings will go into next year motivated and ready to have more success. Injuries are a part of the sport, but no doubt the 2018 MXGP champion knows that, and let’s hope he can remain fit and once again lead the best riders in the world to another brilliant season of racing.

“That last two years have been really bad, because I could ride with it (his injured ankle), but I couldn’t be my normal self. I still have a three year deal with KTM, so I will do those three years, and I got to get some wins, because if you look at my GP wins compared to my world championships, it doesn’t balance out. I have 90 GP wins and only four world championships and most riders with four world championship only have like 40 GP wins, so I need to improve on that.”

As fellow MXGP legends Antonio Cairoli and Tim Gajser are set to go into the winter and take some rest from this very tough season, both mentally and physically, you can be sure that Herlings will start his preparation early, and come into the first round in 2021 ready to surprise his opposition.
