ROOKIES RULE AT TEUTSCHENTHAL AS LUCAS COENEN & VALERIO LATA WIN THE QUALIFYING RACES AT THE LIQUI MOLY MXGP OF GERMANY!

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany) 31 May 2025 – Bright sunshine lit up the Talkessel circuit on the eastern side of the central European nation, as the Qualifying Races brought a thrilling end to the first day of action at the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal, the tenth round of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship!

The classic Teutschenthal party atmosphere was ever present on a dry day at the Talkessel, and the World Championship elite gave maximum effort in response with a partially revised layout that proved to be popular with riders and fans.

Lucas Coenen’s phenomenal rookie season in MXGP continued as he led a Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 1-2 ahead of Jeffrey Herlings, as “The Bullet” hit his best form yet ahead of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s series leader Romain Febvre!

The MX2 class saw yet another new winner, the sixth in a Qualifying Race this year, in the shape of Valerio Lata, delivering his own rookie rout for Honda HRC, with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing duo Sacha Coenen and Andrea Adamo chasing him across the line.

Tomorrow’s Grand Prix Sunday brings us to the halfway point of the season, and it should do so in style with a partisan crowd in full voice for their top riders!

The practice sessions early in the day saw two different factory teams taking first and second on the timesheets on each occasion. First it was Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, with Pauls Jonass ahead of Febvre in Free Practice, but in Time Practice it was the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pairing of Herlings and Coenen, with the Dutchman claiming first gate pick in front of the Belgian, as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Calvin Vlaanderen was third quickest.

Also fast throughout practice was TEM JP253 KTM Racing Team’s privateer hero Jan Pancar, and the Slovenian bolted out of the gate in the Qualifying Race to lead across the Fox Holeshot line, although Coenen shot past him to lead up Liqui Moly mountain, followed quickly by Herlings as the orange bikes ran 1-2-3 ahead of the battling Isak Gifting, who pitted his JK Racing Yamaha against Febvre, Jonass, and Honda HRC’s Ruben Fernandez!

The two “RF”s got past the Swede before the end of the first full lap, but Jonass could not go with them.  Vlaanderen battled with his teammate Maxime Renaux for eighth place, and the South African-born Dutchman got ahead on lap three. The Sarholz KTM of Noah Ludwig got the local fans cheering by holding onto the final points scoring position of tenth place for most of the race!  Ultimately, he was passed with two laps to go by the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team machine of Jeremy Seewer.

Coenen built a lead of several seconds over Herlings, but Febvre took until lap seven to get past a stubborn Pancar.  Two laps later still, Jonass passed Gifting for sixth, but couldn’t catch Fernandez for fifth, leaving them both in those positions to the flag.

The factory Yamaha battle quickly caught up to Gifting, and they both went through on lap ten, with Renaux finding a nice line in the new wave section to also pass Vlaanderen for seventh, which he kept to the finish.  Gifting lost ninth to Seewer on the very last corner as the Swiss veteran pulled a ragged pass in front of Pit Lane!

Pancar managed his best ever Qualifying Race result with a fine fourth position, as Febvre closed in on Herlings, but couldn’t find his way past as “The Bullet” started to reel in Coenen! The gap at the finish line was just over a second, leaving many to wonder if the real Jeffrey Herlings is ready to stand up tomorrow!

Coenen chipped two more points away from Febvre’s Championship lead, however, and that leaves the gap at 45.  The Frenchman will charge again tomorrow, but this weekend might not be the two-horse race we have seen recently! It’s gonna be a good one!

Lucas Coenen: "“Honestly, I struggled with arm pump—I don’t know how or why. Maybe it’s just Saturday and it’ll be better tomorrow. I had a good start, messed it up a little after the gate, but I’ll fix that. Then I just did my laps and tried to control the arm pump. I didn’t know Jeffrey (Herlings) was that close until I saw ‘84 +0’ on the pit board—I was like, ‘He’s right there!’ So I had to nail that last corner. It was a good qualifying race—now we focus on tomorrow’s two races.”

Although Sacha Coenen was fastest in Free Practice, it was reigning World Champion Kay de Wolf who answered any doubts about his fitness by topping the tables in Time Practice for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, even though Coenen was only 17 thousandths of a second off with his last flying lap! Home favourite Simon Laengenfelder worked his way into third place, and the scene was set for the afternoon!

Sadly for Honda HRC, Ferruccio Zanchi sustained a knee injury in attempting a difficult double jump in Free Practice, and will miss tomorrow’s GP.  We wish him the best in his recovery.

Zanchi’s teammate, Valerio Lata, was just behind Laengenfelder in Time Practice, and caught some serious drive down the start straight in the Qualifying Race, lifting his front wheel spectacularly! The young Italian was still able to hold the gas on down the hill into turn one, narrowly beating Coenen to the Holeshot, then defending the inside line from the young Belgian as they leapt into turn two!

Laengenfelder briefly claimed second position until Coenen snatched it back with the blast across the start straight, while Adamo and the Gabriel SS24 KTM Factory Juniors rider Oriol Oliver were snapping at their heels.  Oliver lost three places with a mistake just after the finish line, and Adamo also pulled past Laengenfelder in the same section to take third, followed quickly by Kawasaki Racing Team MX2 pilot Mathis Valin!

De Wolf, meanwhile, had not got away well, and had to fight with Oliver to claim sixth at the end of the first full lap.  There was then an all-Spanish battle with Monster Energy Triumph Racing star Guillem Farres getting past Oliver on lap two.

Lap four saw a big mistake for De Wolf, washing the front wheel out in an uphill corner and hitting the ground hard, ultimately dropping him to fifteenth position, which he was not able to move forward from. Once more, the reigning World Champion heads into Sunday’s GP races on the back foot.

Farres’ teammate Camden McLellan got stuck into a race-long battle with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Thibault Benistant, with the South African ending up tenth in the race as the Frenchman was able to get past Farres for eighth with two laps to go!

Oliver had passed his countryman for sixth on lap nine, but Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Liam Everts had been working forward from an average start, and forced past Oliver for sixth on the final lap!

The loudest cheer of the day, however, was inevitably reserved for Laengenfelder, as he wore down Valin to make a stunning pass on the French rookie over the big uphill triple jump! That was for fourth position, and as far as he would get, losing just a single point to Adamo to leave the gap between them at just ten points! De Wolf’s no-score puts him 32 points behind the German, who stopped after the flag to acknowledge the boisterous support from the hillsides!

Coenen took second place in a Qualifying Race for the fourth time this season, and that’s enough to put him past Benistant for fifth in the Championship, 34 points behind Everts.

The day belonged to Valerio Lata, however, as the new Italian kid on the block put in amazing lap times at the start of the race to build a gap, then showed confidence beyond his years to hold a winning margin of just under four seconds, moving himself up to eighth in the Championship in the process!

This means that the entire top nine in the series has taken a chequered flag first on either a Saturday or Sunday this season! Motocross fans couldn’t wish for a more wide-open field to pick a winner from, and it should make tomorrow’s races a wild ride!

Make sure you tune in for the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany’s main GP races tomorrow, it should be juicier than the choicest of bratwursts served up trackside! Not to be missed!

Valerio Lata: " I don’t know the words, it’s unbelievable. My first race win! I had a perfect start, a perfect race, and yeah, I’m so happy. I had a good feeling with the bike, with the track, with the team. Thank you so much everyone—see you tomorrow! “

WORLDWIDE TV COVERAGE – TUNE IN TO THE LIQUI MOLY MXGP OF GERMANY!

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany) 30 May 2025 – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship reaches its halfway point with round ten this weekend, and it’s the classic Talkessel circuit in the municipality of Teutschenthal that the teams will head to, straight from northern France to the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany.  Located to the east of the central European country, the typically Teutonic grassland always attracts a passionate crowd that should have plenty to cheer for in 2025!

For local fans, the main races of interest will be in the MX2 class, as local man Simon Laengenfelder – coming from the town of Hof, only 150km away – will hold the red plate for the first time in over three years as he leads the World Championship by 11 points following a brilliant double win in France! Will he ramp up the atmosphere with another victory on home ground?!

The MXGP races are sure to make for some great racing as well, with Championship leader Romain Febvre fresh from a great win on home territory in France, but having to deal with the threat of teenage rookie Lucas Coenen, who has a great record around the Talkessel circuit and could be a real handful!

With the WMX class also competing at Teutschenthal, local favourite Larissa Papenmeier will be out for a repeat of last year’s win here, but the Championship battle between Lotte van Drunen, Kiara Fontanesi, Lynn Valk, and Daniela Guillén is red hot and could make for the best racing of the weekend!

Below you can find the full list of TV channels that will air LIVE and delayed action of the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany, as well as the 26-minute Behind The Gate magazine show featuring the best moments from the races, exclusive interviews and more.  All of this footage will be available on MXGP-TV.com and via our TV magazine partners following the Grand Prix.

As always, MXGP fans can follow the races LIVE throughout the weekend. All you need to do is log onto www.MXGP-TV.com on Saturday and Monday, from wherever you are in the world.  Every round this season will also feature live screening of Saturday’s Time Practice sessions, for those who don’t want to miss a wheel turn from the Talkessel!  Come and join us for a great weekend of Motocross action!

2025 MXGP WOMEN’S ACADEMY TAKES PLACE AT ERNÉE

With support from Infront Moto Racing, the FIM, French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) and the MXGP Academy, participants were schooled in aspects of the sport that included riding technique and flag signals. There was also a paddock team visit and riders’ parents attended a workshop aimed at improving communication skills.

The three-person team of expert instructors comprised Jan Postema, Livia Lancelot and Martin van Genderen.

A professional MT-3 level trainer, coach and the MXGP Academy’s main trainer since 2015, Postema is a former 125cc and 250cc Grand Prix racer who was a member of the victorious Dutch team at the 1984 FIM Coupe des Nations.

French heroine Lancelot is a two-time FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion (WMX) and seven-time national champion who made history as the first female competitor to score points in the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship.

Also a professional MT-3 level trainer and coach, Van Genderen coordinates the MXGP Academy’s activities and is a former FIM Sidecar Motocross World Championship passenger with an extensive background in professional team management in both Motocross and Circuit Racing.

Lancelot, the WMX champion in 2008 and again in 2016, was delighted to share her years of racing experience with Academy members:
“I am very happy to have participated in the MXGP Women’s Academy during the MXGP of France this year,” she said. “Ernée has a special flavour for me and to be able to share my experience and this atmosphere with young riders is great. In addition to the technical approach with the educators present, the girls were able to see from the inside what the life of a world championship rider represents. Through this weekend we were able to transmit a positive message to the participants and also to their parents and we clearly showed that the FIM is passionate about women's Motocross.”

Janika Judeika, FIM Women's Commission Director, said: “I am truly proud and deeply grateful to Infront Moto Racing for making it possible to bring the MXGP Women’s Academy to Ernée. It is incredibly inspiring to witness the growing number of girls and women stepping into the world of motocross, proof that the sport is becoming more inclusive, diverse and globally embraced than before. This special edition of the Academy was more than just a training ground, it provided a platform where talented young riders could shine, build confidence and deepen their knowledge – both on and off the track – while a dedicated educational programme for parents will ensure a strong, supportive community around these rising athletes.”

“This initiative is a powerful reminder of the bright, exciting future ahead for Motocross and of the incredible potential that lies in empowering women within the sport.”

TITANIC BATTLES IN STORE THIS WEEKEND AT THE LIQUI MOLY MXGP OF GERMANY

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany) 28 May 2025 – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship heads to its easternmost point yet for round ten at the glorious Talkessel circuit in the municipality of Teutschenthal, proving that time flies when you’re having fun, as we are incredibly completing the first half of this year’s series with the Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany!

The venue is on classic Saxon grassland, and has played host to 27 MXGP events, as well as the 2013 Monster Energy Motocross of Nations that saw the most recent win in that event for Team Belgium!  Just like that weekend, when the Germans were reigning Champions, this year’s event sees a home favourite wearing a red plate, as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star Simon Laengenfelder took the lead in the MX2 World Championship with a double victory at last weekend’s MXGP of France and looks to be in the form of his life. He will look to get the chainsaws revving and the smoke flares ignited in the tight German valley!

Simon will be looking to emulate Romain Febvre’s performance at Ernée, as the MXGP red plate holder took a loudly-cheered home GP victory to consolidate his lead in the World Championship for Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP.  The veteran Frenchman holds a 47-point Championship lead over Laengenfelder’s teammate Lucas Coenen, who had a perfect Sunday in MX2 at this venue last season!  Injured Honda HRC rider Tim Gajser, second overall here to the eventual Champion Jorge Prado in 2024, is still third in the 2025 series.  Fantic Factory Racing MXGP’s Glenn Coldenhoff and Gajser’s teammate Ruben Fernandez, as well as Maxime Renaux of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team, are all poised to move past the absent Slovenian this weekend.

Laengenfelder will certainly have stiff competition at the German circuit, as fellow Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot Andrea Adamo also leapfrogged the reigning Champion Kay de Wolf at Ernée after a terrible GP for the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing star. Adamo is only 11 points behind the home favourite, with De Wolf now 14 points further back, and with question marks over his physical status after a painful crash on Saturday in France. Behind them, the chasing pair of De Wolf’s teammate Liam Everts and Thibault Benistant of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 squad have both won Grands Prix here and will be looking to repeat the feat to get back in the title fight!

For the twelfth time at this venue, the Women’s Motocross World Championship will be blasting around the Talkessel, the site of the first ever Women’s Motocross World Cup event, and round three of the 2025 series has many contenders with great records at the German circuit.  Last year saw an emotional overall win for home heroine Larissa Papenmeier, although she currently sits in seventh place in the 2025 Championship for SYE Racing Team 423. Spanish star Daniela Guillén won the opening race last year, and she is fourth this season for RFME Spain National Team GASGAS.  Lynn Valk, lining up for Van Venrooy KTM Racing this year, is joint second with FontaMX Racing’s Kiara Fontanesi, who last time out in Spain took her first overall victory since 2021.  They are all chasing the De Baets Yamaha star and defending World Champion Lotte van Drunen, who has a slender 8-point buffer at the top!

The EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing series fires into the second half of its campaign with its eighth round this weekend. In France there was a massive turnaround at the top of the standings as Racestore KTM Factory Juniors rider Nicolò Alvisi took both wins, while his teammate Áron Katona suffered a zero-point weekend to lose the red plate, leaving him 25 points behind the Italian.  Mano Faure also jumped up a position at his home round to lie third for Yamaha Europe EMX125.

Last year’s event saw one of the most enthusiastic crowds of the season make a lot of noise for their riders, and with a Championship leader to get behind, the 2025 event promises to be even more boisterous!

The MXGP of France saw an emotional home victory for Romain Febvre, but over the weekend he actually lost two points to Lucas Coenen after the young Belgian won Saturday’s Qualifying Race. The red plate holder took the GP victory at Teutschenthal ten years ago, during his title season of 2015, with a 1-2 scorecard, but has only ever been on the podium on one more occasion, in 2021 with 4-2 finishes for third overall. Last season saw him pull off the circuit on Sunday after taking third on Saturday but tweaking his injured thumb in the first GP race.

Coenen, meanwhile, has a bit of history with the Talkessel circuit, although he never raced here in the EMX Championships. He nearly took his first overall GP victory here in 2023 with a dominant race one performance being spoiled by a broken chain late in race two! In 2024 he took a perfect 1-1 score on Sunday, which lifted him above Laengenfelder to second in the MX2 World Championship. Expect the hot rookie to be just as strong on the 450cc machine.

Coldenhoff has only once stood on the podium here despite many years of trying, but his second overall in 2023 was with a 4-2 card behind Jorge Prado, who has won here four times in total, and in each of the last two years in MXGP. The best of the active riders here this weekend is Jeffrey Herlings, who won both races in 2014 and 2016 in MX2, plus another 1-1 in 2018.  He has a dubious relationship with the German GP, however, having picked up the injury that ended his 2023 title campaign here, as well as famously suffering a collision with Prado over the finish line in 2021.  He was third overall behind Prado and Gajser here last season, and looks to be improving week-by-week for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

Fernandez got on the podium here in 2023 with third overall, and he is only ten points behind Coldenhoff in the Championship standings, looking to get into the top three by the end of the weekend.  Just three behind the Spaniard, however, is Maxime Renaux, who took a GP victory here in his MX2 title-winning campaign of 2021, and is also fighting his way back to full fitness.

Seventh in the Championship is Coldenhoff’s Fantic Factory Racing MXGP teammate Andrea Bonacorsi, who took a race win here in the 2022 EMX250 round, while ninth in the series after enjoying his second podium in France for the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team is Jeremy Seewer, winner here in MX2 back in 2017!

The top German in MXGP is Tom Koch, currently 23rd in his first year with MRT Racing Team Beta, and he’ll be hunting for a top ten finish, as will SixtySeven Husqvarna Racing rider Mark Scheu.

The MXGP elite should give us a tough battle at the top, and seeing these seasoned warriors wrestle their bikes around the Talkessel is always a treat!

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 441 Points; 2. Lucas Coenen (BEL, KTM), 394 Points; 3. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 305 Points; 4. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, FAN), 302 Pts; 5. Ruben Fernandez (ESP, HON), 292 Pts; 6. Maxime Renaux (FRA, YAM), 289 Points; 7. Andrea Bonacorsi (ITA, FAN), 253 Points; 8. Calvin Vlaanderen (NED, YAM), 219 Pts; 9. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, DUC), 219 Pts; 10. Kevin Horgmo (NOR, HON), 204 Pts.

Just as reigning MX2 World Champion Kay de Wolf looked to be pulling away in the 2025 series with his performance in Spain, the French GP turned into a nightmare for the Dutchman with just a 19-point haul from the weekend, compared to the 59 of Simon Laengenfelder!

This weekend will see an ocean of support for the German on his home ground, and as much as anything else will tell us how well he can handle the pressure of all that expectation from a nation with no World Champion for 13 years.  His recent history here has been solid if not great, with third in both races behind Lucas Coenen and De Wolf last year, while injury kept him out of things in 2023. He was fifth overall in 2022 and seventh in 2021.

For his part, Andrea Adamo has almost been in better form than in his 2023 title-winning year, already taking three GP wins compared to just two in that season and none last year! He was second overall at Teutschenthal in 2023 and fourth last season, but his speed in France gives notice that he will be out to spoil the German party!

De Wolf, meanwhile, finished second overall here last season, having finished 11th the previous two years and sixth back in 2021.  The big question is how bashed up he is after multiple crashes in France, will he be back to 100% or fighting through the pain barrier?  His Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Liam Everts won his first ever GP here in 2023, but was a detuned seventh last season. He had a quiet French GP and is clearly looking for a big result to re-ignite his title challenge.

Fifth in the Championship is Thibault Benistant, winner here in 2022 who has been inconsistent in 2025, showing flashes of brilliance but also some very quiet races. His position is under threat as Sacha Coenen is only three points behind him for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, and on a run of form with back-to-back podium finishes in the last two GPs! He also won an EMX125 race here in 2021.

A bunch of MX2 riders will look to repeat some EMX success around the Talkessel, such as 2024 EMX250 winner and Kawasaki Racing Team MX2 competitor Mathis Valin, who also won an EMX125 race in 2023! Valerio Lata won the first EMX250 race here last year, and the Honda HRC pilot is only one point behind his teammate Ferruccio Zanchi as the pair run eighth and ninth in the series, behind Monster Energy Triumph Racing’s Camden McLellan.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Karlis Reisulis won an EMX125 race here in 2022, and he will be joined for the first time in MX2 by his brother, the 2023 overall EMX125 winner, and current EMX250 red plate holder, Janis Reisulis of the Team VHR VRT Yamaha Official EMX250 squad! His teammate Ivano van Erp, who also won an EMX125 round here overall in 2021, is one of several other EMX250 riders who will sample the MX2 experience this weekend!

Laengenfelder is the only German to have scored points in MX2 this year so far, but that’s all the excuse his fans will need to raise the metaphorical roof of the Talkessel circuit, and this year’s Liqui Moly MXGP of Germany is bound to be another classic around the iconic eastern German slopes!

MX2 - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Simon Laengenfelder (GER, KTM), 424 Points; 2. Andrea Adamo (ITA, KTM), 413 Pts; 3. Kay de Wolf (NED, HUS), 399 Points; 4. Liam Everts (BEL, HUS), 343 Pts; 5. Thibault Benistant (FRA, YAM), 308 Pts; 6. Sacha Coenen (BEL, KTM), 305 Pts; 7. Camden McLellan (RSA, TRI), 265 Pts; 8. Ferruccio Zanchi (ITA, HON), 220 Pts; 9. Valerio Lata (ITA, HON), 219 Pts; 10. Cas Valk (NED, KTM), 217 Pts.
