Little wheels have been set in motion

ORLYONOK (Russia), 13 August 2016 - The future of motocross will be exposed this weekend at the fabulous track and venue here in Orlyonok, Russia, where the 2016 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship has just got underway with the practice sessions out on track now, as we speak.

Yesterday evening, thousands of kids came out to see their peers, friends and idols, and the rest of the world’s fastest dirtbike riders under the age of 17 years old, at the welcoming ceremony, which took place at the Russian Children Centre Orlyonok, the educational center well known for accommodating more than 3500 children from all regions of Russia.

The vibe at the ceremony was something special. Russian dancers set the event in motion while a series of great music tracks had the kids clapping in time. MXGP-TV Presenter, Lisa Leyland and Russian representative and translator, Vladimir Vitalin did the honors and got the event underway by welcoming some of the most important faces to the stage, Mr. Alexander Dzheus, President of the Motorcycle Federation of Russia, Mr. Anton Antonov, Russian Ministry of Sport representative, Mr. Dirk De Neve, FIM Representative, Mr. Eddie Herd, FIM Europe Motocross Commission President and Ms. Patricia Maskarova, Youthstream Representative who all remained true to the Russian tradition where official guests whet their appetites with a bit of bread and salt.

Following the introductions, fifteen nations were bought out and saluted one-by-one, which got everyone pumped up for this extraordinary weekend. In those teams are a few names that might sound familiar, such as Jago Geerts, the 2016 European EMX125 Champion, and Roan Van de Moosdijk, another top contender in the EMX125 series. Australian Caleb Grothues has also made his mark internationally and could be a threat to the 125cc crown as well.

In addition, both of the EMX85 and EMX65 champions are also here, Rene Hofer and Edvards Bidzans who will be lining up against an array of Russian talents who could come along and spoil the party.

One of the coolest things about winning a FIM Junior Motocross World title or the European Open 65cc Cup title is that the winner will also receive a Scott Voltage mountain bike courtesy of our sponsor Scott Sports. Scott Sports representative Diego Clement presented the bikes that the three fastest juniors will be taking home and also invited everyone to a bike race that will take place here at the circuit in Orlyonok today at 5:30pm at the finish line.

With that said, it’s now crunch time for these young athletes with the qualifying sessions set to take place later this afternoon. For LIVE updates from Orlyonok, Russia, follow us on, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and visit our Youtube channel: for FREE video content.
