TV COVERAGE: HOW TO WATCH THE MXGP OF GREAT BRITAIN

Matterley Basin (GREAT BRITAIN) 22 September 2023 – The nineteenth round of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship is arriving in Matterley Basin this weekend for the MXGP of Great Britain.

The 2023 season reached its verdict last week at Maggiora, with Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing's Jorge Prado winning MXGP World Title and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Andrea Adamo taking the MX2 World Title. That's not to say that there's nothing left to play for when we arrive at Matterley Basin. In MX2, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2's Jago Geerts has taken over second place from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Liam Everts in the overall, but by a narrow margin of just four points. They will be neck and neck with Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing's Simon Laengenfelder as the German has the same number of points as Everts. In other words, this is shaping up to be one of the most epic battles of the season!

As always, there will again be a large worldwide LIVE coverage, which includes Eurosport 2, Teledeporte, RAI SPORT, Moji, TV3, STAN SPORTS, Telenet and more.

Below you can find a list of TV channels that will air LIVE and delayed action of the MXGP of Great Britain, as well as the 26min Behind-the-Gate magazine featuring the best moments from the races, exclusive interviews and more will be available on MXGP-TV.com and via our TV magazine partners following the Grand Prix.

As always, MXGP fans can follow the races LIVE throughout the weekend. All you need to do is log onto www.MXGP-TV.com Saturday and Sunday, from anywhere you wish.

MATTERLEY BASIN WELCOMES ALL MXGP RIDERS TO WRAP AN INTENSE SEASON

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 20 September 2023 - The 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship concludes this weekend with the nineteenth round of the campaign in Matterley Basin for the MXGP of Great Britain.

The well-known British circuit of Matterley Basin will be present on the Calendar for the 6th time in a row and will be hosting the 13th MXGP event in its history. The first apparition of the venue was in 2006 when Stefan Everts and David Philippaerts won in MX1 and MX2 respectively. Since then, Antonio Cairoli is the most prolific rider on this track with five GP wins in MXGP (2011,2012,2014,2015, 2019). Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings comes just behind with four victories (2014 and 2016 in MX2, 2018 and 2020 in MXGP). From the ones who will take the start this weekend, Team HRC's Tim Gajser is the one who the most with two victories in 2016 and 2022 in MXGP.

In 2022, the MXGP of Great Britain was the opening round of the campaign and it was Tim Gajser who clinched the victory in front of Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Jeremy Seewer, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In MX2, Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder won for the first time of his career ahead of Tom Vialle 2nd and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Jago Geerts 3rd.

The last Grand Prix in Italy witnessed the crowning of Jorge Prado and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo as the MXGP and MX2 World Champions respectively. They finally made it happen on the penultimate Grand Prix of the season in Maggiora. However the second and third place in MX2 are still in play between Jago Geerts, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Liam Everts and Simon Laengenfelder who have only 4 points that separate them all. This last round will be intense.

This weekend in Matterley Basin will also see the ultimate rounds of the EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing. While in EMX250, Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing Team’s Andrea Bonacorsi secured the European Title in the penultimate round in Turkiye, the fight for the EMX125 European Title will still be on between the first in the Championship MJC Yamaha Official EMX125’s Janis Reisulis and 737 Performers GASGAS’s Mathis Valin, second. However, Reisulis has already one hand of the trophy as Valin trails by 37 points. Many things can still happen but if Reisulis continues on his recent form (he won the last 3 rounds), he could be crowned after Race 1.

Finally, the 2023 MXGP Awards will be taking place in Matterley Basin LIVE Sunday evening on MXGP-TV.com, YouTube Live and Facebook Live. The full line-up of the 2023 Champions will be present to accept their prizes in what will be a moment of celebration and amazing accolades for the shining stars of our sport.

Jorge Prado is the 2023 MXGP World Champion. His performance at the Grand Prix of Italy has propelled him to the top to win his first MXGP Championship in his career. The first race was key in that he battled with his first rival Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre until the French rider got an issue with his bike and had to retire from the race which benefitted to Prado to win it all. The Grand Prix of Great Britain will be less stressful for Prado and may well giving him wings to perform even better, mainly to prepare for the MXoN coming soon.

Romain Febvre has unfortunately experienced a very tough weekend as he saw his hopes of fighting until the very last race for the Championship win vanished with a mechanical issue. The Frenchman will now look forward to perform well in Matterley Basin to put himself in the best conditions before the MXoN on home soil.

Jeremy Seewer showed again that he is always fighting for the top as he won the MXGP of Italy, thanks to his speed and consistency. The Swiss also secured the 3rd place in the Championship which is a good achievement despite not being the one to lift the mighty trophy. He will arrive in Kawasaki next season with plenty of confidence.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Glenn Coldenhoff showed good flashes of speed in Maggiora but it was not enough to clinch a podium and settled for the 8th overall. This last GP would be another perfect opportunity for the Dutch rider to get a first GP win this season and get positive results before the MXoN.

The momentum for Team HRC’s Rubén Fernández is the opposite as the Spanish is regaining confidence after his injury sustained in Finland and displayed great speed in Maggiora, setting the fastest lap of the weekend and getting his first podium since Germany.  Fernandez can also battle for the 4th place in the Championship as he is 43 points behind Coldenhoff.

Team Gebben Van Venroy Yamaha Racing’s Calvin Vlaanderen has been a model of consistency this season and the MXGP of Italy didn’t change that fact with Vlaanderen going 7th overall. The Dutchman is guaranteed at least the 6th place in the Championship. His head will be turn to the Nations but he knows that it will pass by performing well in Matterley Basin.

Pretty much guaranteed the 7th place in the Championship, SM Action Racing Team Yuasa Battery MXGP’s Alberto Forato was one of the heroes of the weekend during his home Grand Prix of Italy. Forato won his first race of his career in MXGP with the RAM Qualifying Race and narrowly missed the first podium of his career on the Sunday. It is still a great achievement as he got his best finish with the 4th overall.

Ship to Cycle Honda SR Motoblouz’s Valentin Guillod clinched another top 10 for the season as he displayed a solid riding in Italy. The Swiss fulfils his objective of top 10 as he is 9th in the Championship although the last round in Great Britain will decide if he finishes 9th or 10th as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Maxime Renaux is going to come strong this weekend to get the best momentum and rhythm before the MXoN. Renaux who underperformed in MAggiora with a 16th overall will need to show a lot of determination in Great Britain to fight for a podium finish.

MRT Racing Team Beta’s Ben Watson finds himself in 15th position in the Championship before heading to his home Grand Prix. However the British best rider could well win several position if he performs well in front of his home fans and could get closer to the top 10 which would be a good achievement before going to the MXoN.

Andrea Adamo is the new MX2 World Champion after a season of consistency and amazing racings that placed Adamo at the top of the Championship mid-way in the season. What an epic moment it was for the young Italian to finally get his hands on the trophy for the first time in his career on home soil of all places. Adamo responded present despite the huge tasks that was in front him before the MXGP of Italy and finished on the 3rd step of the podium.

Jago Geerts his getting back to his best and proved it with an excellent Grand Prix victory in Italy, his 7th of the season. Although the Belgian will be nourishing some remorse about this season due to his injuries that hindered his chances of winning the Championship that was promised to him, he may still get onto the 2nd place while preparing himself for the MXoN. Geerts will give everything in Matterley Bason to reach his 100% fitness.

Asamo’s closest rival before Italy, and teammate Liam Everts unfortunately didn’t perform to his usual standards, maybe due to the pressure and crashed in the second race which definitely handed the MX2 Championship to Adamo. Evert will need to regroup quickly as the battle for the 2nd place will rage on in Matterley Basin between him, Jasgo Geerts and Simon Laengenfelder.

Simon Laengenfelder is unstoppable since his comeback from injury as he clinched another podium in Italy. The German is now also in the battle for the 2nd place in the Championship as he is levelled with Everts and only 4 points behind Geerts. The MXGP of Great Britain will be th big decider for the final podium of the season and will offer some thrilling battle.

Another place will be decided this weekend between Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Lucas Coenen, F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo and Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf as they will fight for the 5th place. L.Coenen who is 5th in the Championship has 17 points on Horgmo and 27 points on de Wolf. Despite finishing in 7th place in Italy, L.Coenen displayed his amazing talent with a huge comeback in Race 2. The pressure will be now to maintain his 5th place and ride solidly without doing any mistakes.

Horgmo is getting better and better asnd has been fighting for the top spots during the second part of the season. His form is excellent at the moment and could gain a position in the Championship. On the other side, both riders will have to deal with ex Red Plate de Wolf who is really gaining momentum and rhythm with a great 4th place overall in Maggiora. The objective for the Dutch rider is also to raise his fitness to be as competitive as possible and come back to the top. That will be interesting to see him riding elbow to elbow with his closest rivals for a symbolic but important 5th place.

PIRELLI CELEBRATES 81 TITLES IN THE FIM MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WITH WORLD CHAMPIONS PRADO AND ADAMO

Jorge Prado (GASGAS) in MXGP and Andrea Adamo (KTM) in MX2, supported by Pirelli SCORPION™ MX32™ tyres, won the World Championship with one GP still to go.

Pirelli celebrates 81 titles in the FIM Motocross World Championship. The penultimate round of the 2023 World Championship which took place over the weekend at Maggiora Park, in Italy, saw the world titles awarded, one round early, to Jorge Prado Garcia (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) in MXGP and to Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in MX2. Throughout the season, both riders were able to count on the performance of the tyres from the SCORPION™ MX32™ range, an absolute reference for all professional riders and lovers of this discipline.

This is the third world title for the Spanish rider, previously winning the MX2 class in 2018 and 2019, again with the support of Pirelli. For Italian rider Andrea Adamo, the 2017 EMX150 champion, this is the first world title.

With just one round to go, Pirelli becomes World Champion in both classes and boasts four riders in the top five in the MXGP championship classification, while monopolising the top five positions in MX2.

In MXGP, after Saturday's pole obtained by Alberto Forato (Team SM Action Migliori KTM), Jorge Prado won the first heat to secure the world title. Jeremy Seewer (Wilvo Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP) won the overall of the day, preceding Prado and Ruben Fernandez (Honda HRC) for a final podium completely Pirelli branded.

Pirelli dominance continued in MX2 with Jago Geerts (Kemea Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2) and Simon Langenfelder (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) who ended the day on equal points, but the Belgian won the overall by virtue of the best placing in race two. Andrea Adamo finished in third place, sealing the victory of the world title with a podium.

The excellent results of the Pirelli riders in the World Championship were confirmed in the EMX250 European Championship which in the last round crowned the Italian Andrea Bonacorsi with the Yamaha Hutten Metaal team as continental champion.

The range of Pirelli SCORPION™ MX tyres includes motocross tyres for soft terrain, such as the SCORPION™ MX Soft; tyres for soft and medium grounds, like the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft; tyres for medium and hard terrain, like the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Hard; as well as tyres ideal for trainings such as the SCORPION™ MX Extra X.

ANDREA ADAMO CROWNED 2023 MX2 WORLD CHAMPION ON HOME SOIL WHILE GEERTS WINS IT IN MAGGIORA

MAGGIORA (Italy) 17 September 2023 –  The MXGP of Italy concluded from the best of manner for all the Italian crowd with the crowning of home hero Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo. Adamo won in Maggiora his first MX2 World Championship after showing an incredible mental strength and not let the pressure get to him.

The Italian bided his time this season to get his first Red Plate on the 8th round in Latvia. Adamo had to fight off with Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf for the Red plate in a give and take that last until Indonesia where the KTM rider grasped the Red Plate to never let it go again. His first rival of the season was Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Jago Geerts who held the Red Plate for the first part of the season before getting injured although the Belgian came back for more but Adamo superbly continued to perform and keep the leadership of the Championship.

Geerts got injured again in Finland and Adamo had then to deal with the pressure from his teammate Liam Everts right until this Grand Prix of Italy. But it was the time of Adamo to shine in front of his fans who came in large number to support him throughout the weekend. However Adamo’s determination has been second to none with few unlucky events during races that made him fight his way back several times showing epic comebacks which contributed to excellent record this season. Adamo got 10 podiums, 4 Race wins and 2 Grand Prix victories. His consistency was simply the best of any riders this season and Adamo will now be able to enjoy the last Gran Prix of the season in Great Britain before the huge 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Ernée with Team Italy.

In Race 1, Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder clinched the FOX Holeshot and pulled away quickly in front of Jago Geerts and Red Plate Andrea Adamo. Laengenfelder was on a league of his own during that race as he controlled it from start to finish to win his second race of the weekend after the RAM Qualifying Race.

Adamo who found himself in 3rd place after a good start tried to close in on Geerts and ecen maage to show a wheel a couple of times but Geerts showed amazing composure and answered Adamo’s attacks by speeding up his pace to stay in front. Adamo then got a scare when he landed on the side of the track hitting his chest off the handle bar. Geerts got off the hook and finished in 2nd place in the end.

For Adamo things tensed with his closest rival Liam Everts closing in on him to try to deny Adamo the mighty win home soil. Adamo managed to keep a cool head to bring it home in 3rd place while Everts solidly stayed 4th.

Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Lucas Coenen disrupted the status quo in front him as the rookie found himself in 10th place on the opening lap to simply making his way forward with great talent. L.Coenen managed to get to 6th on lap 12 of 17 behind the consistent F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmowho was fighting earlier with Everts and Adamo for the 3rd spot. The young Belgian didn’t settle and managed to pass Horgmo with two corners to go, to finish 5th while Horgmo finished 6th.

The other great comeback was the one from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team’s Thibault Benistant who was 2nd after the start but went off track and lost some positions to see himself in 5th on the turn of the opening lap. The Frenchman crashed again a lap later to move down to 11th place but made a terrific comeback to finish 7th in the end showing his talent along the way as he overtook his teammate, Rick Elzinga. Elzinga finished 8th in the end in front of Kay de Wolf made a couple of mistakes during the race.

In Race 2, Laengenfelder clinched his 10th FOX Holeshot but this time not for long as Geerts made a wonderful move to pass him and take the lead. Geerts would never let the lead go as he fought and won the intense battle with Laengenfelder during the whole race. Geerts in the end held onto the lead to win his first Grand Prix since Flanders. Laengenfelder missed out on the perfect weekend and settled for 2nd to get on the 2nd step of the podium.

For Adamo, things looked simple on paper, he had to gain 4 points on Everts to be crowned Champion. Adamo got a better start than his teammate in 5th position with Everts being 8th on the opening lap.  Everts showed great fighting spirit as he got right behind Adamo on lap 6 of 18. This is when Adamo decided to push up and take his destiny into his own hands. Adamo quickly passed Benistant and WZ Racing Team’s Oriol Oliver over the course of 2 laps. Adamo kept pushing to keep his 3rd place while Everts needed to overtake a couple of riders to deny the Italian. However on lap 15 Everts crashed and retire from the race and got disqualified for accepting outside assistance. The Championship was decided as Adamo crossed the line in 3rdplace seeing all his team and family there to greet and celebrate with the 2023 MX2 World Championship.

Benistant settled in the end for 5th to get the 5th overall while Oliver settled for 11th after crashing out of 4thplace. De Wolf rode solidly again to finish 4th from the 9th place on the opening lap to finish 4th overall showing that he is getting back his rhythm before the Nations. Horgmo stayed again consistent to finish 6th overall. L.Coenen showed again an impressive comeback from the 22nd place on the opening lap to the 7th place in the end and get 7th overall. F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s David Braceras got a good result to go 14-8 to go 8th overall.

Andrea Adamo: “What an emotion, I didn’t plan to win here in Italy because I was expecting to win it in Materley but today I did two good races. I’m sure that with a better start I could have fight with Simon (Laengenfelder) and Jago (Geerts), but today I just enjoyed the races and got two 3-3 that was enough to bring me the championship. What a moment it weas to win in front of the home fans too.”

Jago Geerts: “I’m really happy to win a GP again; today I was fast and I had a good feeling with the bike and of course is always nice to be back on top. I’m still not 100% but I’m improving week by week and now my goal is to have a good and solid race in Matterly and of course for the end of season at the FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations with Team Belgium.”

Simon Laengenfelder:” It was a very good weekend for me, I think one of the best weekend after winning the RAM Qualifying Race I had good feeling in Race 1 and I managed to win it while in Race 2 the track was much faster and they ripped it and it was really nice to ride like that so finally I’m happy to be there on the podium again.
