Shift MX launch 2017 3LACK, WHIT3 & Recon gear

Shift MX unveiled their super rad 2017 line of motocross kit here at the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy, in Mantova. American legend, long-time Shift athlete and brand ambassador Jeff Emig hosted the presentation, which took place inside Youthstream’s VIP Gold SKYBOX Restaurant where he started off by reciting a Shift MX slogan, “We are wolves among sheep. We are the armor for the purist, we are the fastest, we go the biggest, we have the most fun… we stay true to our ideals”, a powerful statement describing the individuality of the brand.

Jeff and Shift Brand Manager Philippe Casadesus went on to explain their complete 2017 lines, which consists of the ‘3LACK’ line, the ‘WHIT3’ line and the ‘Recon’ line. The ‘3LACK’ line is Shift’s top of the range line. It’s where world-class performance meets style, as extra attention has been paid toward the freedom and movement of the gear while the gear is ridiculously light. It has been innovatively created with extremely durable materials, which means it raises the bar in terms of fit and durability.

The ‘WHIT3’ line is their best value for money range. It’s cheaper yet it doesn’t sacrifice comfort or style, while the ‘Recon’ line is aimed more towards the free-riders who like to ride with attitude when and where they want.

Shift Syndicate riders Chad Reed and Ben Townley were also in attendance. Reed said, “I have been a big part of the Shift brand, since 2010 and what we have been through and where we began to what we have come up with now is amazing. You always think ‘oh yeah it looks cool’ but actually for me, what is cool is how it performs. For me the style and the chassis of the pant has made a big difference.” Townley agreed, “I think Chad hit the nail on the head when he spoke of the performance of the pant, you feel at one with the clothing, when you you’re moving you don’t feel restricted anymore and to me that is incredible to think that the evolution of pants could come that far.”

“When I started riding with the new pant,” Townley continued, “I was completely blown away with how it felt compared to the old pants.” Jeff concluded, “The results of our new line are more of what you need and less of what you don’t. That’s all in our 3LACK and WHIT3 label gear,” which was on display in the VIP tent for the media to see and touch before sitting down to a buffet dinner.

The 2017 3LACK, WHIT3 and RECON lines will be in stores from July 1st 2016.

How to watch the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy

MANTOVA (Lombardia - Italy), 24 June 2016 – The FIM Motocross World Championship has returned to Italy for round twelve, where the spectacular sand circuit of Mantova is looking ripe and ready for yet another excellent showdown in MXGP and MX2.

In case you didn’t know, Italy is the home of the eight-time FIM Motocross World Champion, Antonio Cairoli, who has been labeled as one of the best sand riders in the world. Cairoli is currently 3 points down on the defending champ, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre, in the battle for second place and should be able to take it over this weekend. Meanwhile, the championship leader, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser, looks to be a tough nut to crack at the moment. The Slovenian has a comfortable 74 point lead heading into this round, the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy, but don’t expect him to back it off, the nineteen year old rookie only knows one way, and that’s ‘all or nothing’.

One of the most popular sports broadcasters in Italy, Mediaset, will be onsite this weekend with their own TV crew to film unique footage of the grand prix. Italian fans can watch the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy with the extra footage this weekend LIVE on Premium Sport 2, or they can watch the replays on Italia 1 and Italia 2.

Making points count at Mantova

MANTOVA (Lombardia, Italy), 22 June 2016 – Eleven rounds in and the championship is starting to take shape as we head for the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy which will take place on the black sand of Mantova in Italy this weekend. It will be the twelfth round of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship where both Red Plate holders, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings have been nothing short of incredible. Gajser especially, since he is only 19 years old, that’s two years younger than Jeffrey Herlings, and it already seems easy to forget he is still a rookie in the premier class!

Up until last weekend, the racing between Gajser and the defending MXGP World Champion, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre, was mind blowing. Their determination to win races encouraged both of them to ride so close to the edge it made you squint in awe as you watched them and the insane speed they ride at. Even some of the most famed and successful riders in the world such as Antonio Cairoli and Max Nagl, just to name a couple, were left scratching their heads. Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev even said, “I don’t know how they are going so fast, I have to check because I couldn’t catch them.”

Unfortunately, Febvre’s championship chase took a massive blow last weekend with a concussion in the qualifying race forcing him out of the main events. As a result, he lost 50 points to Gajser, who blew everyone out of the water once again with a double moto win. Yamaha put out a statement last weekend saying that Febvre will not race in Great Britain and Italy, which is a massive shame since Mantova was a track that saw Febvre take a double victory last season. With that said, Antonio Cairoli will probably jump to second place in the standings this weekend, since he is now only 3 points shy of the champ.

As for the track, it made its first appearance on the world-stage back in 1991 where American Trampas Parker won. It since has hosted eight rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Antonio Cairoli has won three grand prix’ here, two in MX2, and one in MXGP, in years 07, 08 and 2010. Last years MXGP winner was Romain Febvre, while in MX2 it was Max Anstie.

This weekend, the eighth round of the European Championship EMX250 will also take place, as will the sixth round of the European Championship EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing.

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will return to Mantova for the first time since 2008 with the fifth round of the 2016 series taking place this weekend too.

Due to the defending champion Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre crashing out of the FULLBACK MXGP of Great Britain last weekend, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser has stretched out a 74-point lead. Febvre still sits second, but that won’t be for long as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli is now only 3 points behind. As for Gajser, the numbers and statistics don’t lie. He has now won 6 qualifying races, lead 173 laps, won 11 main events, has a better than 50% win rate for grand prix overalls, 6, and has stood on the box at every single round. It is obvious Gajser is the guy to beat.

Finding speed and intensity is not that easy when you are already one of the fastest riders in the world. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Max Nagl knows better than anyone as he finds himself eager to match the pace of Gajser. The German is currently fourth in the championship, 27 points down on Antonio Cairoli in third and 30 points shy of Febvre in second.

Team HRC’s duo of Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev are always podium threats and one, if not both, are always lurking around the front of the field. Since Paulin has returned from injury, he seems to be feeling fresh. The Frenchman knows he has more in the tank, so he is satisfied with what he is achieving despite not being 100%. This weekend GP21 will also be on the LIVE Studio Show with Paul Malin and Jeff Emig, so tune into www.mxgp-tv.com at 11:30 (CET) to watch it LIVE and for FREE.

As for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Italian stallion Antonio Cairoli, everything seems a bit fuzzy. The eight-time world champ is far from done, yet he is definitely no longer the guarantee he used to be. TC222 was solid in race one last weekend at Matterley Basin where he finished second place, but his tenth in race two left us puzzled. The former champ later announced on Facebook that he cased the quad and hurt his left wrist. If the damage is not too bad, it should be a good weekend for the home soil hero here.

You should also keep an eye on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s dynamic duo of Jeremy Van Horebeek and Australian wild-card Chad Reed. Van Horebeek, because he is a Belgian and knows how to ride sand, which was evident here last year when he did enough to stand on the second step of the podium, whereas Reed should have blown off some cobwebs and made some changes to the bike. Hopefully he’s more comfortable and can crack the top ten.

In motocross, when it comes to talking championships and titles, some stories are extremely obvious, while others are slightly subtler. Jeffrey Herlings’ is kind of those obvious ones since he has a commanding lead of 148 points over Jeremy Seewer and has pretty much dominated the championship with 21 from 22 race wins. Although in saying that, we can’t get too carried away because if there is something The Bullet has taught us over the last couple of years, it is that ‘it ain’t over till it’s over’.

Jeffrey has never won a grand prix here in Mantova, but since it is sand, it’s likely he will get the job done. But, there are a couple of riders that could make an impact, and they are Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Dylan Ferrandis and Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer. “We are always second to Jeffrey and we want to beat him,” Ferrandis said last weekend, “I try my best everytime.”

While Ferrandis has managed to beat Jeffrey once this year, and is the only rider to have done so, Seewer was the fastest rider in MX2 last weekend and hit a career milestone with his first point in the Tag Heuer Fastest Lap competition. That achievement alone could be a sign of things to come, and by ‘things’ we mean race wins.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass will be stoked to racing on the soft stuff this weekend and will be looking to take home his sixth piece of silverware.

The points are tight in the battle for fourth between Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha’s Aleksandr Tonkov and Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Benoit Paturel with only 5 points separating the two. Both blue boys are similar in speed and have both been on the podium twice so it should make for good racing.

It would be mega to see last year’s MX2 grand prix of Lombardia-Italy winner, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie, be able to get the job done with Herlings’ on the line. As for the Italian MX2 star TM Racing Factory Team’s Samuele Bernardini, he’s not the biggest fan of the sand, yet he must know that it is something he needs to work on. Bernardini only finished nineteenth here last year, so he is sure to want to better that, and given how much he has improved since last year, it’s a pretty safe bet that he will.

Gajser & Herlings first-class at the FULLBACK MXGP of Great Britain

MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain), 19 June 2016 - Matterley Basin personifies everything a motocross grand prix should be. The track is amazing for the riders; it has great flow, it’s wide, the elevation changes continuously, it has an array of turns, on-camber, off-camber, 180’s, sweepers and it also has challenging obstacles such as waves, triples and quads, mixed in with the classic obstacles like tabletops, doubles and ski jumps. All of the above is made out of the type of soil every rider dreams of. It’s basically 100% traction, a great type of clay that forms tacky ruts on the insides while remaining loose yet grippy on the outsides.

Another asset Matterley Basin has is the area and the view the fans have of the track. Almost every single person can see everything which means they are able to enjoy the racing in it’s entirety.

All of these things made for great racing today at the eleventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship where both Red Plate holders Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings extended their points lead.

“Speed is not an issue. Just be consistent and finish races.” It is one of the most commonly used phrases in motocross. But what happens when the fastest and most cutthroat racer on the track is also the most consistent? That is the question every rider in MXGP has to answer at the moment as Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser continues to excel with yet another double moto victory, which sealed the deal on his sixth grand prix win of the season.

Since Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre didn’t race today and will be sitting out next weekend at the FULLBACK MXGP of Lombardia-Italy as well, Gajser now has a commanding lead in the championship. He 74 points ahead of Febvre who took a massive blow to his title defence this weekend and is now only 3 points clear of Antonio Cairoli.

Back on the topic of Gajser’s raw speed, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl is one of the most puzzled. Even his trademark ‘holeshot and head-down’ tactic isn’t working. It’s almost getting to the point where finishing second place to Gajser is as good as a win and that means Nagl had a pretty sweet day in the office since he stood on the second step of the podium.

Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin had one of the gnarliest crashes of the season at his home grand prix in France two weeks ago when he was rag dolled off of his bike on a high-speed downhill. Amazingly, he is okay! In fact more than okay it would seem since he bounced back with vengeance today for third overall, his second podium appearance this season.

Kemea Yamaha MX Official Team’s Valentin Guillod was ridiculously fast here last year in MX2 and was almost equally as impressive in the MXGP class with his great performance for fifth overall, despite crashing in race two. The Swiss rookie ran a hot pace all weekend and is really starting to make progress in the premier class.

Tim Gajser’s insane speed may also be having an effect on the eight-time world champion Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli who seems to be riding out of character at the moment and making more mistakes than we are used to seeing from him. Because of the errors, TC222 only managed to finish sixth today, so it’s back to the drawing board for the Sicilian that is running third place in the championship standings.

As for the Brits, Wilvo Virus Performance KTM’s Shaun Simpson is still battling a broken hand. He tried to put on a brave face and even managed to score a couple of points in the first race but was in far too much pain for the second race and didn’t line up, whereas Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Tommy Searle laid low most of the day and for one reason or another only came home in eleventh.

MXGP Race 1 Top Ten: 1. Tim Gajser (SLO, Honda), 35:27.708; 2. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), +0:05.864; 3. Valentin Guillod (SUI, Yamaha), +0:09.678; 4. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, Honda), +0:15.214; 5. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Honda), +0:17.550; 6. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +0:20.714; 7. Maximilian Nagl (GER, Husqvarna), +0:24.515; 8. Tommy Searle (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:34.354; 9. Matterley Basin is almost everyone’s favorite track, except Jeffrey Herlings. There is just something about this place that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings doesn’t gel with. He was beaten here fair and square last year, and yesterday he only finished fifth in qualifying, which is by far his worse qualifying result. Regardless of the adversity he has faced around this track, he knows what it takes to get the job done and The Bullet used his unprecedented talent to wrap up his tenth double victory of the season to remain unbeaten in grand prix overalls in 2016. “It’s good, I put myself in a good position with two holeshots” He said, “man! Two holeshots with my weight, I was pumped and I definitely made my life easy for myself by getting them.” Jeffrey now leads the championship by a whopping 148 points, “everything is good, eleven rounds in, seven to go and I have a pretty comfortable points lead” he confidently concluded.

When Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Dylan Ferrandis returned from injury a few rounds back, he came out all guns blazing and stole a race win from the otherwise undefeated Jeffrey Herlings. Since then, Jeffrey seems to have upped his game or has become wiser in his tact. Take nothing away from Dylan Ferrandis, the Frenchman rode solid today for two second place finishes and second overall. “It was a good weekend but I had two bad starts, so second is ok.” He said, “we are always second to Jeffrey but next weekend I will try again, I will always give my best.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass had a ‘mare’ in qualifying yesterday! He got off to a rough start and in his rush to move forward he landed on a crashed rider and went into the fence. After freeing up his bike, he rejoined the race but crashed again and only crossed the line in twenty-fourth. With that said, a piece of silverware with third overall today at the FULLBACK MX2 grand prix of Great Britain is a result he was proper pumped with.

Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer has definitely upped his game this year and it won’t be too long before his results reflect his speed. As an indication of how fast he is, the Swiss rider set the fastest lap of the weekend in MX2 and chalked up his first Tag Heuer Fastest Lap point.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s pair of Brits Max Anstie and Conrad Mewse were both impressive this weekend. Anstie had the fans going mad when he won the Qualifier yesterday while Mewse had them singing in race one when he pushed the Red Bull KTM stars pretty much all the way to the flag. Anstie bounced back from his first race shocker to finish fourth in race two, even though he almost de-knackered himself when he cased the quad massively. An eighth in race one, meant the poleman would only finish fifth overall while his teammate and fellow countryman went 5 – 9 for seventh.
