EASTER EGGS-ELLENCE FOR VICTORIOUS FERNANDEZ AND DE WOLF AT THE MXGP OF SWITZERLAND PRESENTED BY IXS

FRAUENFELD (Switzerland) 19 April 2025 – The early week’s rainclouds made way for bright sunshine over the Schollenholz circuit for the Qualifying Races today at the MXGP of Switzerland Presented by iXS, and the action warmed-up in response to entertain the Swiss fans for the start of the sixth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Frauenfeld!

In MXGP there was a surprise victory for the Spaniard Ruben Fernandez, taking his first win of the season for Honda HRC ahead of his teammate Tim Gajser and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP man Maxime Renaux.

The MX2 class saw Kay de Wolf take his first Qualifying Race win of the season for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, to extend his Championship lead by a single point from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot Simon Laengenfelder, who took second ahead of De Wolf’s teammate Liam Everts.

The MXGP Paddock has a day off for Easter Sunday tomorrow before the full GP programme runs on Easter Monday!

The top four in Free Practice exactly mirrored the Championship situation, with Gajser fastest ahead of Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre, Glenn Coldenhoff from Fantic Factory Racing, and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rookie Lucas Coenen. Time Practice saw the same top two, with Renaux third and a fighting Jeffrey Herlings claiming fourth gate pick for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.

The Holeshot in the Qualifying Race went to Gajser’s teammate Fernandez, as Tim himself rounded the first corner in eighth and Febvre, having lost traction at the start, deeper still in the pack!

Renaux was second until a mistake through the second corner allowed Herlings to go past, followed by the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team’s replacement rider Alessandro Lupino. Although Renaux slipped no further back, Gajser was soon making a rapid recovery towards the front, firing past the Frenchman and then Lupino within a handful of corners to end the first full lap in third place!

It took three laps to then find his way past Herlings as arm pump kicked in for the Dutchman, who is still working his way back to fitness, and the Slovenian quickly moved to within striking distance of his teammate.

Lupino held fifth place bravely until half distance, before the regular campaigners started to make their fitness pay off. Febvre’s recovery ride was phenomenal, with great passes on Coenen, Fantic Factory Racing’s Andrea Bonacorsi, and finally Herlings, who had been passed by Renaux by that point for third.

Sadly, Febvre got “The Wall” section badly wrong and suffered an awkward crash that he escaped without major injury, amazingly picking his way back from seventh to fifth at the flag!

Home hero Jeremy Seewer had a steady ride for Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team, and just grabbed sixth from Herlings on the final lap. Behind the Dutchman was the other Swiss star, dressed in the glorious “Swiss Cheese” kit inspired by an old Swiss Olympic skiing outfit, and very happy to take eighth on his private Yamaha!  Coldenhoff didn’t have a great race with ninth, but still made ground on Coenen, who finished a dissatisfied tenth, also making a last lap move, this time on Lupino.

After a late pass on Herlings, and benefitting from Febvre’s fall, Bonacorsi took a solid fourth behind Renaux, but amazingly Fernandez resisted his teammate’s attacks time and time again, and Gajser had to settle for second behind the Spaniard!

It was Ruben’s first Qualifying Race win for nearly two years, since Portugal in late April 2023, and meant a lot to the moustachioed man who is holding down sixth in the standings.  Gajser will feel confident for tomorrow, now holding a 42-point advantage over Febvre with Coldenhoff another 43 behind in the Championship.

The big 450s are a handful around the Frauenfeld circuit, and generates a different type of challenge. Who knows how this class will shape up come the end of Monday’s GP races!

Ruben Fernandez: "That was a much-needed one. I’ve been building every weekend, getting better step by step, and finally it’s showing in the results. Honestly, I don’t even feel that great on this track—same as last year—but I pulled the holeshot in the qualy then, and did it again today. Super happy. Let’s carry this into race day now."

De Wolf showed his liking immediately for the technical Swiss venue by setting the fastest laps in both Free Practice and Time Practice, although Laengenfelder was close to him in both sessions.

The Holeshot went the way of Honda HRC rookie Valerio Lata, while Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s usual Holeshot king, Sacha Coenen, bounced against other riders and plummeted down the order! Lata, a self-confessed fan of the circuit, managed to hold the lead until the end of lap four!  Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star Andrea Adamo was briefly second, but Cas Valk passed him in the second corner to make it a rookie 1-2, paving the way for De Wolf to move up into third in the next corner!

De Wolf moved quickly, and was past Valk by the time they got to “The Wall” section.  Meanwhile Laengenfelder had gone around the outside of Everts for fifth and was hassling Adamo, keen to not let his title rivals get away from him.

It all happened on lap five as Adamo and Laengenfelder got past Valk, with Everts and the Gabriel SS24 KTM Factory Juniors new recruit Oriol Oliver giving chase. De Wolf’s pressure finally told on Lata and the reigning Champ took over at the front, never to be caught from there. Adamo just got too aggressive with Lata and fell over his countryman’s rear wheel in a tight right hander!

Adamo remounted just ahead of the Monster Energy Triumph Racing machine of Camden McLellan, who was himself battling with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 pilot Thibault Benistant. The Frenchman found a turn of speed to get past the South African, then quickly disposed of Oliver, Valk, and right at the final lap, overwhelmed a tiring Lata for fifth at the flag! A good start on Monday could see Thibault as a real threat. McLellan had to settle for seventh ahead of Oliver, with Honda HRC’s Ferruccio Zanchi passing Valk on the final lap for ninth position.

Adamo put on a spirited recovery and certainly showed he could also challenge on Monday, while Laengenfelder and Everts held station in second and third.  It was, amazingly, the first Qualifying Race win of the season for De Wolf, and extends his points lead out to 13 over Laengenfelder.

There’s no doubt that Monday’s GP races in both classes are difficult to call, and the tight and technical circuit is capable of providing some excellent racing in front of a boisterous Easter holiday crowd!

Kay de Wolf: "I didn’t even realise it was my first qualifying win of the season! Lata had a strong pace early on, so I had to be smart about where to make the move. But yeah, I felt good all day—topped every session, so it’s nice to see that it translated into a good result. Now I’ve got a day off, gonna enjoy it, maybe play a little golf and come back strong on Monday."

HOME HERO SEEWER AND MXGP LEADER GAJSER SET THE STAGE FOR THE MXGP OF SWITZERLAND PRESENTED BY IXS

FRAUENFELD (Switzerland) 18 April 2025 – The MXGP of Switzerland Presented by iXS officially opened today in Frauenfeld with a packed Opening Press Conference, setting the stage for a thrilling Easter weekend of racing in the heart of Switzerland.

The proceedings began with a special Swiss Moto presentation, exclusively unveiling the 2025 MXoN Team Switzerland jersey, and sharing the team’s vision for this year’s competition. Swiss MXoN Team Manager Matt Rebeaud, alongside Jeremy Seewer from Aruba.it Ducati MX Team, spoke of the determination to bring the best riders to the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Crawfordsville, Indiana in the USA. Rebeaud also introduced the federation’s dedicated support staff with Rolf Enz, Swiss Moto CEO and member of the board, Swiss MXoN Team Advisor Diego Clement, and Team Coordinator Fabian Tellenbach and emphasised their ambition to place Team Switzerland among the world’s best.

Matt Rebeaud: “We’re a small country, but we have a big heart and strong athletes. This weekend is key to assessing our talent pool, and we’re proud to present our new jersey that represents the different moto categories under one identity.”

Jeremy Seewer added: “It’s always an honour to represent my country. I’m excited about the project and the opportunity to compete in the U.S. later this year. If we can stay healthy and perform at our best, a top-five finish is a realistic goal—and who knows, maybe even the podium.”

Following the Swiss Moto segment, the Official Opening Press Conference of the MXGP of Switzerland presented by iXS welcomed home hero Jeremy Seewer, reigning red plate holder Tim Gajser from Team HRC, and the event organizer Willy Laederach.

Willy Laederach, a driving force behind the Swiss event, expressed his pride:
“It wasn’t easy to make it happen again, but thanks to an incredible team of over 460 volunteers, we're back. We may not have the most modern track in the world, but we have a passion and a public that make it special. We are grateful to Infront Moto Racing, the FIM, and of course, to the riders who choose to race in Switzerland.”

Jeremy Seewer spoke about the emotional value of racing at home, just minutes from where he grew up:
“This is always a special race for me. I raced here as a kid and now I get to do it again in front of the fans—it’s unique. Of course, the track is different, but we embrace it. A huge respect to Willy and his team for making it happen.”

He also reflected on the balance between pressure and performance:
“It’s a busy weekend for me. Everyone wants a piece of you—media, fans, partners—but I try to enjoy it and structure my schedule so I can stay focused. It’s stressful, yes, but I see it as a privilege. The energy from the crowd is powerful, and I hope I can use that as fuel to close the gap to the front runners.”

Tim Gajser, fresh from his commanding 1-1 victory in Trentino, arrives in Switzerland with momentum and confidence:
“It was an amazing weekend in Trentino—perfect result, amazing fans, great atmosphere. But now it’s a new weekend and a different kind of track. It’s tight, technical, but I like it. Last year the rain made it really challenging, but those are the conditions where I feel strong.”

On his approach to the championship and consistency as the red plate holder, he added:
“With many GPs in the season, consistency is everything. You can’t afford to make big mistakes. I’ve learned when to push and when to settle, and that comes with experience. Of course, I always want to win but being smart and knowing when to manage a race is what makes the difference over the season.”

The MXGP of Switzerland Presented by iXS promises to be a pivotal round in both the MXGP and MX2 championships, with passionate fans ready to cheer on the sport’s top stars in Frauenfeld.

THE MXGP OF SWITZERLAND PRESENTED BY iXS READY TO GIVE THE SWEETEST EASTER TREAT THIS WEEKEND

FRAUENFELD  (Switzerland) - 17 April 2025 – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship has travelled gradually northward over the last two weekends, from Sardegna to Trentino, and now it concludes its first three-week run with a 450km trip around the Alps to the ancient city of Frauenfeld, and the Schollenholz circuit, for round six, the MXGP of Switzerland Presented by iXS!

One of ten venues to host a Motocross Grand Prix in Switzerland, the Frauenfeld area has used three different circuits in its history, which began in 1981 with a 125cc Grand Prix, won by the legendary Eric Geboers. From 2016 to 2018 a circuit nearer to the town was used, with Jeffrey Herlings taking MXGP class victories in each of the last two years there. Swiss heroes Arnaud Tonus and Jeremy Seewer won individual races in either class in 2017, although Benoit Paturel took his only Grand Prix victory in MX2 that year.

In the last three years the racing has returned to the grassy slopes at the highest point of the town and saw victories in 2023 for French Yamaha riders Maxime Renaux and Thibault Benistant, with last year’s mixed conditions bringing wins for Tim Gajser and Kay de Wolf.

Gajser returns to the site of his dominant double win last September with a healthy 39-point Championship lead for Honda HRC, while De Wolf also wears the red plate in MX2 for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing! As always in Motocross, however, the races are far from foregone conclusions on this deceptively tricky circuit.

Seewer will be going all-out to get his fans cheering as he leads the Fox Holeshot standings on his new Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team machine, and is aiming to lift himself from tenth in the series, while Valentin Guillod, a private Yamaha rider this season, has scored the best Swiss race finish of the year with a fifth place in Argentina. Kevin Brumann is the top Husqvarna rider in the series for MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing, and Tonus will race his #4 Yamaha as a wildcard for one more crack at his home GP!

Both classes have a large entry list with several Swiss wildcards, and in MX2 Mike Gwerder would seem to have the best chance of home success for the HTS KTM Racing Team.  The MX2 Championship opened up a little at the Monster Energy MXGP of Trentino, but the top four riders are still separated by just 28 points, with everything to play for!

The EMX250 European Championship lost its two-stroke Wozniak MX Racing Team hero Adrien Petit to injury last week, leaving the way clear for VHR VRT Yamaha Official EMX250 rider Janis Reisulis to take the red plate. He has a 16-point lead from JM Racing Honda new boy, and reigning EMX125 Champion, Noel Zanocz.  So it’s Latvia versus Hungary at the top of EMX250, although the tall figure of Nico Greutmann will be looking for a good result on home ground for his Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna team.

Another Hungarian, Aron Katona, has kept the red plate in the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Championship for Racestore KTM Factory Rookies despite a difficult Trentino, with fast Italian Francesco Bellei second for Fantic Factory Racing EMX125. The Swiss fans will cheer 125cc rookie Ryan Oppliger to great heights if he can repeat his good starts from previous races!

The MXGP of Switzerland Presented by iXS should provide a weekend of close and tough racing for the sixth round of the series! Be sure not to miss it!

It’s been a case of Tim Gajser versus the French contingent in MXGP so far, as the Honda HRC man has taken three double-race win GP victories so far in 2025, with Maxime Renaux for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP and Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Romain Febvre taking the other wins so far.  It’s the man in green who is giving chase in the Championship, with two GP race wins and two Qualifying Race victories, it has only been the odd poor start and a broken wheel which has prevented Febvre from getting closer, but we all know the tough former Champ will never give up on a circuit where he took third overall in 2023!

Gajser was seriously impressive in last year’s Swiss round, while Jeffrey Herlings took second overall for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.  Although the Dutchman is still recovering from his off-season knee injury, his fellow factory KTM man Lucas Coenen has shown some great speed, but he had one of the worst days of his season in MX2 at Frauenfeld last year and will be out to improve at this year’s event.

Third in the points table is Glenn Coldenhoff, on a great run with three podiums so far for Fantic Factory Racing.  Fifth behind Coenen is Renaux, the 2023 MXGP class winner here, whose title campaign took a few hits over the Italian rounds. For sure he will be looking to bounce back, while Ruben Fernandez will also be looking to capitalise on the hard-pack to continue his rise up the order for Honda HRC. He looked good here on return from injury at the end of 2024.

Hopes are high that Mattia Guadagnini could return from injury to join Seewer for the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team, and Isak Gifting will make a late decision on his participation for JK Yamaha after his Trentino crash left him heavily bruised.

50 riders are entered for the MXGP class, so once more the circuit will be full of snarling 450s, in front of a typically boisterous Swiss crowd!

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 274 Points; 2. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 235 Points; 3. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, FAN), 196 Pts; 4. Lucas Coenen (BEL, KTM), 176 Points; 5. Maxime Renaux (FRA, YAM), 164 Points; 6. Ruben Fernandez (ESP, HON), 148 Pts; 7. Kevin Horgmo (NOR, HON), 137 Pts; 8. Andrea Bonacorsi (ITA, FAN), 122 Points; 9. Calvin Vlaanderen (NED, YAM), 102 Pts; 10. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, DUC), 99 Pts.

As the Championship leader’s red plate finally stayed in one place after a GP weekend, namely on the front of Kay de Wolf’s Nestaan Husqvarna, MX2 continues to be unpredictable with the seventh, and then the eighth GP race winners of the season, just ten races old, coming at the Monster Energy MXGP of Trentino!

De Wolf extended his lead with consistent finishes and misfortune to others, and he now has a 12-point gap over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder.  The German won race two here last season to finish second overall to the Dutchman, who was also on the podium in 2023. With many fans likely to cross the border to get behind him, could this be the weekend when the German finally takes an overall victory again?

Andrea Adamo took his second GP win this season at Trentino, and is now just six points behind his fellow Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot, with podium form here from 2023.  Liam Everts suffered the most in Trentino with a DNF due to crash damage in race two, and is now fourth for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, 28 points behind his teammate in the lead. In mixed conditions last year, Everts had brilliant speed here to hound De Wolf for the second race win, having to settle for third overall on the day

Thibault Benistant finally added a GP race win to his season’s scorebook in Trentino, after also scoring two Qualifying Race wins for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2. The 2023 MX2 winner could be a real threat at Frauenfeld, and needs the points to stop all the Austrian machines ahead of him from sprinting further away in the series.  Sacha Coenen sits sixth in the standings for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing after again crashing out of the lead last weekend, but Camden McLellan took the first ever GP race win for both himself and Monster Energy Triumph Racing, and after surviving a nasty second race crash, he is hungry for more of that winning feeling in Switzerland!

The red smoke flares will be blazing for all the Swiss heroes, and atmosphere will again be electric for the MXGP of Switzerland! Watch it all on MXGP-TV.com or come and join us live for an Easter Treat to beat any chocolate you can buy… even from Switzerland itself!

MX2 - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Kay de Wolf (NED, HUS), 231 Points; 2. Simon Laengenfelder (GER, KTM), 219 Points; 3. Andrea Adamo (ITA, KTM), 213 Pts; 4. Liam Everts (BEL, HUS), 203 Pts;  5. Thibault Benistant (FRA, YAM), 171 Pts; 6. Sacha Coenen (BEL, KTM), 169 Pts; 7. Camden McLellan (RSA, TRI), 155 Pts; 8. Cas Valk (NED, KTM), 151 Pts; 9. Ferruccio Zanchi (ITA, HON), 121 Pts; 10. Valerio Lata (ITA, HON), 111 Pts.
