MXGP Academy Activities in Vantaa, Finland

The MXGP Academy is taking place for the sixth time in 2023 at the MXGP of Finland at Vantaa this weekend. It gave ambitious young motocross riders an opportunity to come together and perfect their skills while learning what it takes to participate professionally in the FIM Motocross World Championship.

The youngsters learned from the experienced Jan Postema, Martin van Genderen and John van de Berk as well as local trainers throughout Friday and Saturday.

The MXGP Academy kicked out on Friday with a presentation for riders and their families, where they were taught more about safety requirements, such as flag signals, as well as additional race coaching from the trainers.

Following rider training, parents were trained and informed on the importance of communication and how to blend verbal and nonverbal approaches. The day culminated with a riding session in which participants were able to practise and ride in order to learn as much as possible about riding skills as possible.

On Saturday morning, youngsters got the chance to get a guided tour and insights of the MXGP Paddock with visits to Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team’s structure as well as the Red Bull Station Hospitality. They continued on to the WP and TwinAir tents as well as the Dunlop truck to get an all-round perspective and experience about the world of motocross

There will be two more MXGP Academy coaching opportunities during the 2023 season in The Netherlands and Turkyie.

VANTAA (Finland) 28 July 2023 – The fourteenth round of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship is arriving in Vantaa this weekend for the MXGP of Finland.

Finland is one of those lands that hosted the World Championship in the early years of its creation, continuously developing its population's interest in Motocross. From Torsten Hallman in 1963, to Stefan Everts more recently, all the greatest riders in history have regularly competed on the Vantaa track. 60 years later, a more than talented succession is about to hit the gas on a legendary circuit, despite its renovation in 2020.

As it has done in a long partnership that has lasted since 2012, MTV channel will be LIVE and ON SITE throughout the weekend, covering the MXGP and MX2 RAM Qualifying Races on Saturday, through to Race 2 in each category on Sunday. Additionally, there will again be a large worldwide LIVE coverage which includes CBS Sports Network, Automoto TV la chaine, Teledeporte, Stan Sports, MOJI, and more.

Below you can find a list of TV channels that will air LIVE and delayed action of the MXGP of Finland, as well as the 26min Behind-the-Gate magazine featuring the best moments from the races, exclusive interviews and more will be available on MXGP-TV.com and via our TV magazine partners following the Grand Prix.

This weekend will mark the anticipated comeback of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings to the competition after his neck injury in Germany and will line-up for the first time this season altogether with Team HRC's Tim Gajser, Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre and Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado. As always, MXGP fans can follow the races LIVE throughout the weekend, all you need to do is log onto www.MXGP-TV.com Saturday and Sunday, from anywhere you wish.

HERLINGS BACK IN THE GAME AND ANTICIPATING MXGP OF FINLAND RETURN THIS WEEKEND

The record-holder for most Grand Prix wins in the entire history of the FIM Motocross World Championship, Jeffrey Herlings, will ride his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing KTM 450 SX-F this weekend at Vantaa in Finland for round fourteen of the 2023 MXGP season.

The 28-year-old Dutchman has recovered sufficiently from the fractured neck vertebra he sustained as a result of a crash while leading round nine of nineteen in Germany. The winner of four Grands Prix this season (still the joint-highest total in 2023) missed rounds in Indonesia, Czech Republic and Belgium while he convalesced from the injury but received the all-clear from doctors this week to begin riding and will now attempt MXGP’s first visit to Vantaa this century.

The sandy nature of the Finnish course, located close to Helsinki, should play into Herlings’ favor but, instead of harboring ambitions of race results, #84 is merely looking to build-up his GP speed once more and place points on the board to improve his current standing of 7th. Finland represents the third fixture in three weeks for MXGP, so the Red Bull KTM ace will then have another two weeks to continue his comeback prep before round fifteen, the Grand Prix of Sweden, in mid-August.

Herlings claimed the MX2 Grand Prix of Finland at Hyvinkaa in 2014 but was on the sidelines for the return to the circuit in 2022 last year. He has six podiums from nine GP appearances in 2023 to-date.

Jeffrey Herlings: “Once I knew the problem with my neck and back was going to need time and I’d sit out races then my only focus was to heal 100% before I came near the bike again. I know the physical and the mental cost of setbacks like this and I was determined to follow the doctor’s advice. If I couldn’t have the title this year then I wanted my health. I’m still in good shape so I hope it won’t take too long to get back at the front."

Dunlop introduces Geomax MX34: Next generation soft-mid MX tire

Dunlop has further developed its championship-winning Geomax motocross range with the introduction of Geomax MX34, a versatile MX tire with a number of innovations that build on its acclaimed predecessor.

With the aim to provide more grip for motocross riders of all levels, from professional racers to amateurs, Geomax MX34 has been designed with race-proven performance and consistency in mind. It is the successor to Geomax MX33, which has become the tire of choice on a wide range of soft, mud and intermediate surfaces, and in variable weather conditions.

The new tire sits in the range between the sand and mud-orientated Geomax MX14 and the intermediate to hardpack-focused Geomax MX53.

Ride like a champion: Race-proven technology

Geomax MX34 has already been raced by some of the world’s top motocross riders in both the FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) and AMA Supercross Championship. Whether it’s motocross or racing slicks for superbikes, Dunlop works with teams to develop its future tires on the track, giving race-proven performance to all riders.

The new tire features improved designs on both front and rear. On the front, an optimised block design and updated compound gives enhanced traction and durability compared to its predecessor. Larger spacing between blocks achieves superior mud evacuation, meanwhile.

On the rear tire, the centre blocks have been made 11% higher and 44% wider to deliver more traction. This increased rear grip gives riders greatly improved acceleration and better feel and feedback. Together, the new designs also offer improved standing-start grip to help with holeshot potential.

Luca Davide Andreoni, Marketing Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe: “The new Dunlop Geomax MX34 adds even more traction and pace to what was already an exceptional tire. Working with top teams in MXGP and Supercross, we have improved a number of features to give riders of all levels better durability, traction and slide control on a wide range of soft to intermediate surfaces. Together with Geomax MX14 and MX53, we are proud to offer our strongest motocross range yet, drawing on our innovations from winning in top professional championships.”

ATHENA PRESENTS THE NEW EXTREME BIG BORE CYLINDER KITS FOR OFFROAD.

THE Ø 85MM INCREASED BORE LEADS TO AN EXTREME INCREASE IN POWER, WHILE GUARANTEEING RELIABILITY AND DURABILITY, AND WITHOUT MODIFYING THE BIKE'S CRANKCASE.

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 27 July 2023 - Athena, a leader in the market of high-performance motorcycle, scooter and moped spare parts for 50 years – presents the brand new Extreme Big Bore cylinder kits measuring Ø85mm, for offroad applications for Honda and Yamaha 250cc.

The Athena R&D Department succeeded in designing and developing a solution that filled a market gap: a Cylinder kit with extreme increased bore that allows an unprecedented increase in power, bringing the displacements of Yamaha and Honda bikes up to 304cc and 288cc, respectively. The kit can be installed without making any modifications to the motorcycle crankcase.

In fact, the entire Kit guarantees maximum performance, better delivery, more torque at low and medium revs, better reactivity and at the same time a reliability equal to the original parts, thanks to all the technical solutions resulting from the challenge won by the Athena R&D team. All this is combined with the proverbial good handling of a 250cc Offroad for a simply exceptional driving experience. Athena's Technical Department internally manages the entire development and approval process for the cylinder kits. First, the team works to design together all the elements of the kit. They are first tested and validated by the company test facility technicians and then directly on the track by the riders. The result is a combination of engine components that ensure maximum synergy between them.

THE CYLINDER

The winning feature of this revolutionary kit is the cylinder resulting from the union of two different materials, with particular attention to the design of the cylinder liner.

The cylinder with extreme increased bore Ø 85mm is in fact made of aluminum alloy with a high silicon content, with a steel cylinder liner. This cylinder liner is placed directly into the mold through an innovative co- fusion production process. This internally designed and tested method allows efficient mechanical gripping, and ensures perfect union and reliability over time.

Furthermore, the cylinder liner is finished with a galvanic treatment and a nickel-silicon coating developed by the Athena R&D department, to obtain maximum smoothness and optimal resistance to wear even under high performance conditions.

PISTON KIT

The forged aluminum alloy piston is a guarantee of resistance and lightness. Additionally, machining with the latest generation CNC machines ensures perfect geometries and reduced tolerances.

The lower structure has a fully open boxed bridged design to combine greater resistance to fatigue, lightness and a better cooling of the piston crown. The geometry of the piston crown also optimizes the compression ratio to guarantee greater driving elasticity and reliability over time.

The piston pin was specifically designed for this type of extreme application. It is biconical and made in aeronautical steel alloy and the rings included were made in Japan.

GASKETS KIT

The gaskets included in the kit, developed by Athena technicians, include a cylinder head gasket and a cylinder base gasket. These were specifically designed for the new aluminum cylinder with steel liner, to guarantee maximum seal even under the most extreme stresses.

The Athena Big Bore Extreme Cylinder kits are available to the public at these suggested prices (VAT excluded):

Kit Big Bore Extreme Honda 250cc: 606,27 €

• HONDA CRF R 250 cc 2018/2023

• HONDA CRF RX 250 cc 2019/2023

Kit Big Bore Extreme Yamaha 250cc: 594,18 €

• YAMAHA YZ F 250 cc 2019/2023

• YAMAHA WR F 250 cc 2020/2023
