The Battle for the Title Continues This Weekend in Teutschenthal

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 29 September 2021 – With the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to shift the focus back to the FIM Motocross World Championship as the title chase heats up.

For the 11th round of the series, MXGP finally heads back to Teutschenthal, Germany for the first time since 2019, after COVID-19 restrictions prevent the Grand Prix from going ahead last season. But with that now behind us, it’s time to enjoy the MXGP of Germany.

The hardpack track of Teutschenthal has been part of the FIM Motocross World Championship since the 70’s and first hosted a 250cc Grand Prix in 1971 which was then won by the six-time world champion Joël Robert. Since then, the German venue has hosted a Grand Prix 24 times, with this year being the 25th.

Alongside the main MXGP and MX2 action, this weekend’s races will also see the rounds three and five of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and EMX250 championships as Fantic Factory Team Maddii riders Haakon Osterhagen and Nicholas Lapucci will look to maintain a healthy lead over their closest championship rivals Valerio Lata of MRT Racing Team KTM (EMX125) and SM Action Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo (EMX250) while this weekend will also host a round of the Junior e-motocross Series after the success of the first appointment taking place last weekend in Mantova.

In MXGP, we have reached a crucial point in the championship chase, as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings will enter the German Grand Prix with the red plate. The Dutchman has just a one-point advantage over Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who lost the championship lead in Riola Sardo after two tough races. As it turns out, the Slovenian was in fact struggling with a collarbone injury, but now with a couple of weeks of rest, there is no doubt that the factory Honda rider will be able to claw back vital points to keep the title battle tight. Last time around in 2019, Gajser went on to win both races in Teutschenthal, so there’s no doubt he will want to do the same this time too.

Another rider that will be looking to do the same is Antonio Cairoli of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing who also lost points in Sardinia. The 9-time world champion was forced to sit out the MXGP of Sardegna due to a big crash in time practice, which was heart breaking for the Italian. Cairoli will now enter the German Grand Prix off the back of a historic victory at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations with Team Italy, a title that Cairoli had not won before. And with the extra confidence and motivation boost from this incredible victory, there is no doubt that Cairoli will be more motivated than ever to go after that 10th world title for his final season of GP racing.

Currently sitting third in the MXGP standings is Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Romain Febvre who finally returned to the podium in Sardinia, finishing third overall. Now the focus for the Frenchman is to stay consistent and keep things close as he is just four points behind Herlings with eight rounds to go.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado is next in the championship. He is currently on 359 points, 12 points down on the leader. This is just the second season for the Spaniard in the MXGP class but he’s constantly showing that he has what it takes to run with the leaders, as the stats show that he has led laps than anyone else this season so far. He also has four GP podiums and two race wins under his belt, so it will be interesting to see what results he can deliver this weekend.

In this second half of the season, it would be great to see Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer, Glenn Coldenhoff and Ben Watson battling further up the field, with the trio showing good potential so far. Both Coldenhoff and Watson had some good battles in Mantova this past weekend at the Monster Energy FIM MXoN, with Watson winning the overall in MXGP, which will no doubt be a huge confidence boost and with that hopefully he can deliver similar results in the FIM Motocross World Championship.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen and Arminas Jasikonis will enter the races in Germany more motivated than ever after their strong performances at the Monster Energy FIM MXoN. Olsen won the MXoN race 1, while Jasikonis battled well inside the top 5, so there is no doubt that the pair will want to bring these results to MXGP.

This upcoming weekend will see the home race of JM Honda Racing’s Henry Jacobi along with the likes of KTM Kosak Team’s Tom Koch, Tim Koch, Stefan Ekerold and Mike Stender of SHR Motorsports.

In MX2, the title chase is a little different as Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Maxime Renaux currently has full control of that. He is 71 points ahead of his closest rival Mattia Guadagnini of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, but of course anything can happen with eight rounds to go, so the Frenchman cannot afford to relax.

For Guadagnini, the next races will be important as he will need to deliver on some positive results. Looking back on his strong performances on the hard pack, in Matterley Basin, Maggiora and Loket, this weekend could be an occasion that we see him back on the podium again.

But if we put the title chase aside, there is no doubt that this weekend we will see another classic battle between Renaux and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle. While Vialle might be out of the running for the championship this season due to an injury which saw him miss several GPs, this doesn’t mean that he won’t continue to challenge for Grand Prix wins and podiums. In the last three GPs we’ve seen the KTM rider take three consecutive GP victories and this weekend will be another opportunity to add to that, as the hardpack will suit the Frenchman.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jago Geerts and Thibault Benistant are currently third and fourth in the championship standings and both have a chance to go for some top results this weekend. While Geerts expected to be fighting at the front in Sardinia, the reality was different as crashes once again cost him vital positions and points, so a more consistent day will be much needed. Meanwhile Benistant could have a chance to go for another race win as he did in Maggiora and Loket. Benistant has made only one podium appearance this season but this weekend maybe we could see him add another.

Some strong results can also be expected of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jed Beaton and Kay de Wolf as the pair have delivered plenty of positive results and several podiums this season so far. de Wolf added another top three finish in Sardinia as he placed third overall, making it three podiums in his rookie season already, which is quite impressive.

F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Mathys Boisrame will once again aim to go for a podium spot this weekend after he finished third overall in Teutschenthal back in 2019. While he didn’t have the best weekend in Mantova for the Monster Energy FIM MXoN, there is no doubt he will be keen on putting this behind him and get some positive results under his belt.

Simon Längenfelder of DIGA PROCROSS GASGAS FACTORY RACING as well as Nico Greutmann, Marnique Appelt of Raths Motorsports, Paul Haberland of KMP HONDA RACING and Noah Ludwig will line up in Teutschenthal for their home Grand Prix as they will chase top results on home soil.

FIM-Europe MXoEN heads to Krasnodar for 2022

MANTOVA (Italy) 28 September 2021 – Infront Moto Racing is pleased to announce the venue for the host for the 2022 FIM Europe Motocross of European Nations. A conference was held in the media center of the Monster Energy FIM MXoN which took place in Mantova.

The popular European event will head to a brand-new venue in Krasnodar next year, with more details on the location and date to be released soon.

Present for the occasion to share a word on this exciting announcement was Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo, FIM Europe President Martin de Graaff and MFR President’s Advisor Nikita Tepper on behalf of MFR President Mr. Alexander Dzheus, who was not able to be present onsite.

Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo: “We are very pleased to announce the Motocross of European of Nations taking place in Krasnodar. For many years the collaboration between the promotor and the Russian Motorcycle Federations has been going very well.

This year me and Jorge Viegas were welcomed in Moscow with the highest authority in the area, we talked about the future of motocross with the federation. Motocross is great in this country, which is fantastic for MXGP, and next we will bring the Motocross of European Nations in Krasnodar. It will be a new track, a very good step for MXGP too to add another location in Russia. We are very confident that could be a very successful event, it’s a new step to develop motocross in Russia, so I really would like to thank the FIM Europe and MFR, especially Alexander Dzheus to make this event possible next year”.

FIM Europe President Martin de Graaff: “The MXoEN is a very important event in the FIM Europe Calendar. The last two years it was not possible to organize it because of the pandemic restrictions and the many changes on the FIM and FIM Europe calendar which made almost impossible to find a right date for such event. The Russian Motorcycle Federation MFR has applied for this prestigious event as it will be organised on a beautiful track in Krasnodar. Nikita Tepper informed us on behalf of the Russian federation and showed a video of this new motocross track. FIM Europe appreciates the possibility for a very important race in Russia, the date will be announced once available.”

MFR President Alexander Dzheus: “Russia is planning to hold the Motocross of European Nations stage in 2022. This race will unite riders from all over Europe and will become a landmark event in the sports calendar of Russian sports. I would like to thank Infront Moto Racing and the FIM Europe for their decision and their confidence in us. Holding MXoEN in Russia will be a serious step towards overall integration, will create conditions for the development of motorcycle sport in Russia, its popularization and promotion among fans and supporters”.

The unique event welcomes some of the best talents from all over Europe, as riders from each country battle for pride and glory for their nation. In 2019, the race saw Team Italy defend their 2018 title as they became champions once again, meanwhile in the Women division it was Team Holland who went on to take their first WMXoEN victory in Gdansk, Poland!

Now with the announcement of the MXoEN host for 2022, Infront Moto Racing  and the FIM Europe are delighted to add a new venue to the rooster and look forward to a wonderful race next year in Krasnodar.

European Junior e-Motocross gets moving with a buzz at Mantova

MANTOVA (Italy) 26 September 2021 – The plugs were pulled on KTM SX-E 5, Husqvarna Motorcycles EE 5 and the GASGAS MC-E 5 bikes for the eager young riders of the European Junior e-Motocross series as the first ‘round’ of five zipped into life around a hefty section of the Tazio Nuvolari circuit at Mantova this weekend.

Nearly 40 junior racers have been especially selected for the introductory and educational initial meeting as part of the support card at the prestigious Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. The group lapped the Mantova sand in what was an incredible and unforgettable experience for the juniors as the very first riders aboard electric motocrossers within the MXGP framework. Following this weekend’s sessions, where the youngsters were able to learn whilst being in the same environment as the professionals for the first time, the series heads to race events planned in Germany, France and Spain alongside the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.

Under hot sunshine on Saturday it was Austria’s Tobias Scharinger who clocked the fastest circulation on the Husqvarna Motorcycles EE 5 in the very first ten-minute Free Practice session. In the afternoon the youngster marked the 3rd best time on a track surface that was rougher and more technical in the wake of the qualification heats for the main classes. It was the turn of fellow Husqvarna rider and Italian Achille Esposito to set the pace.

Before the final outing on Sunday morning, the participants had tours of the factory Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, GASGAS Factory Racing, and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rigs. Once they’d seen the works machinery up close and met heroes like nine-times world champion, Team Italy’s Tony Cairoli, then the second ‘chrono’ took place just before the three Nations races.

Under cloudy skies and rainfall it was Scharinger who mastered the wet Italian sand. His rapid effort was just under 2.5 seconds ahead of French rider Timotei Cez who was 2nd on his KTM SX-E 5 and the Austrian is now the first ‘red plate’ holder’.

European Junior e-Motocross will re-charge for round two around a section of the famous Talkessel hard-pack in Teutschenthal and the Grand Prix of Germany next weekend.

Calendar

Round 1, launch/initiation event: Motocross of Nations, Mantova, Italy – September 25-26

Round 2, Grand Prix of Germany, Teutschenthal – October 2-3

Round 3, Grand Prix of France, LaCapelle Marival – October 9-10

Riganti, Kubulins & Petit celebrates the YZ65, YZ85 & YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup Superfinale Victory

MANTOVA (Italy) 27 September 2021 – The 2021 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup Superfinale is off to an exciting start at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Mantova, Italy, with podium medals awarded in the YZ65, YZ85 and YZ125 categories.

More than 101 YZ65, YZ85 and YZ125 riders have traveled from 22 countries to attend the 2021 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup Superfinale in Mantova today.

Designed to prepare youngsters for elite-level competition and talent growth, the Superfinale offers YZ riders their first life experience inside the paddock they ultimately aim to race in.

Having qualified for the YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup Superfinale through the results of their national series’, all the young YZ racing stars were eager to get out on track and put their skills to the test this morning.

In the YZ65 class, Edoardo Riganti was the rider to beat. After qualifying more than 2.5 seconds faster than any other rider, the young Italian was unstoppable as he took a massive holeshot and fearlessly attacked the Mantova circuit on his way to a convincing race victory. The little rocket ship was followed by the second-fastest qualifier, Bulgarian Dani Tsankov, who remained unchallenged in second position from start to finish.

Proving he also has what it takes, Riganti’s younger brother Pietro made it a fairy-tale experience for the Riganti family and all the Italian fans by defending third position from a hard-charging Dane, Storm Maymann.

A further 8-seconds adrift, a little French rider named Tylan Lagain put in an awe-inspiring ride to round out the top-five.

In the YZ85 category, poleman Noe Zumstein took the holeshot ahead of the 2019 YZ65 FIM Europe Cup Superfinale winner Jekabs Kubulins.

As a YZ65 bLU cRU Cup graduate, Kubulins went on to show just how successful the bLU cRU program is. The young Latvian pressured the early race leader, Zumstein, and patiently waited for the prime time to pass. On lap-5, he made a perfect pass for the lead and inched away from the chasers to win by 5-seconds.

After dropping back to second position, Zumstein’s race was not over. The Swiss rider came under pressure from speedy talents Frederik Rahn Stampe and Davide Zanone. A three-way battle ensued and the race for second position went right down to the wire.

At the checkered flag, Danish star on the rise Rahn Stampe edged Zumstein back to third in the final throws, while home-soil hero Zanone had to settle for fourth after a thrilling last-lap challenge for the podium.

Making up the top five was a smooth and consistent Belgian, Emile De Baere.

The final day of the hugely successful 2021 YZ bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup Superfinale saw Frenchman Adrien Petit storm to victory in the YZ125 category after a mammoth charge through the pack and a hard-fought battle with Spaniard Victor Puig.

With less than 2-seconds separating the top-five lap times in qualifying, the highly anticipated main event lived up to all expectations.

In timed practice yesterday, Spanish sensation Victor Puig went pole just 300ths of a second faster than Frenchman Adrien Petit, who finished the session in second position. Making up the top five, Norwegian Elias Auclair rounded out the top three and was closely followed by Sweden’s Hugo Forsgren and fellow countryman Adrian Bolviken.

When the gates fell for the YZ125 Cup Superfinale, Puig rocketed out of the gate and took the holeshot ahead of a hard-charging Forsgren. As Puig controlled the race upfront, an exciting battle for second ensued after a fit, fast and flashy Petit carved his way through the pack. On lap 6, Petit set the fastest lap of the race and blitzed past Forsgren with ease.

After reeling in the leader, on lap 9, Petit was able to launch his YZ125 into the lead. Puig tried to respond but was unlucky in lapped traffic.

At the checkered flag, it was Petit who won by 3.4 seconds over Puig.

Finishing 34-seconds further adrift, Forsgren remained unchallenged in third, while Elias Auclair won a race-long fight for fourth after edging Italian Maurizio Scollo, who finished fifth.

Following the results of the YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cups, the top three finishers, Petit, Puig and Forsgren, have earned an invite to the bLU cRU Masterclass that will take place in November in Spain. Joining them will be two wild cards that will be carefully selected later this week.

The Masterclass is an event specifically designed to give young riders from road and off-road backgrounds a taste of what the racing world can throw at them as well as being a place to receive expert tuition and advice from Yamaha Racing’s bLU cRU ambassadors. At the end of the event, which takes place over three days, one YZ125 rider will win a place on a Yamaha backed EMX125 team where they will receive support to contest the EMX125 Championship in 2022, while the YZ65 and YZ85 riders will win added support from Yamaha Motor Europe for the next season.

MANTOVA (Italy) 25 September 2021 – During a press conference held in Mantova, Italy at the 2021 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, an exciting announcement was made which confirmed RedBud as the host of the prestigious event next year, as it heads back to the United States in 2022.

Following the epic success of the 2018 edition, which saw Team France clinch their fifth consecutive title in front of a huge crowd of fired up American fans, the circuit, very popular worldwide will once again be the perfect host of the 75th edition of the event.

Located in Buchanan, Michigan, Red Bud will host the Monster Energy FIM MXoN for the second time in history and is bound to deliver another incredible weekend as the best riders from all over the world will battle it in order to bring home the Chamberlain Trophy for their nation.

Present for the occasion was Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo with FIM President Jorge Viegas, while a special message was played from the Organisers of RedBud Amy and Timothy Ritchie who were unable to join the press conference in Mantova, in person.

Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo: “We will be back in RedBud for the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. We had a long and very committed talk with Amy and Tim Ritchie. Together with AMA, MX Sports in the US and the FIM we worked together after the last event in 2018, it was important to consider the coming back racing to the USA. We are very excited to be back there. RedBud is a fantastic place and it was great success despite the weather we had last time, we really had a lot of spectators joining and we cannot wait to be there again next year.  I hope everybody is excited as we are to come back to the RedBud”.

FIM President Jorge Viegas: “The coming year will be the perfect time to come back to normal and to come back to normal means to be able to have races and travel also outside Europe. We really must keep the championships going and it was not easy in the last couple of years because of the restrictions. I want to thank Infront Moto Racing for the hard work and efforts to promote the FIM Motocross World Championship and the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. We are very proud to go to RedBud in 2022”.

Organizer of Red Bud Amy Ritchie: “We’re so excited to have the FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations return to RedBud! 2018 was an amazing experience that people are still talking about. Beyond the staff and officials, the race teams and the multitude of fans in attendance, our whole community enjoyed the culture and people it brought from around the world. Even in extreme conditions, it was a very special event, and we can’t wait to do it again!”

Organizer of Red Bud Tim Ritchie: “In spite of the conditions, 2018 turned out to be a fantastic event. RedBud, (then) Youthstream – now Infront Moto Racing - and MX Sports teams came together and produced something very special. The only thing that could’ve been better was the weather!  We’re going to hope and pray all year for a nice weekend, but we’ll be ready for ‘2022” the Redo’, either way. RRREDBUUUUUD!”

Antonio Cairoli Presented with Lifetime Award to Celebrate his Incredible Career

MANTOVA (Italy) 25 September 2021 – After the announcement of Antonio Cairoli’s retirement at the end of the 2021 racing season, a special press conference was held in Mantova, Italy at the 2021 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, to celebrate the incredible achievements of the 9-time World Champion.

Present for the occasion was Infront Moto Racing President Giuseppe Luongo and FIM President Jorge Viegas who presented Cairoli with a Lifetime Award and announced that the number #222 will be retired from the FIM Motocross World Championship, meaning that Cairoli will hold on to this racing number forever.

Over the span of his incredible 18-year racing career, Cairoli has racked up nine world titles, 177 podiums and 93 Grand Prix victories and remains as one of the top title contenders in the 2021 title chase. This weekend the Sicilian will chase his first ever Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations victory with Team Italy.

In honour of his achievements, Infront Moto Racing together with the FIM decided to retire the #222 from competition which Cairoli has worn consistently since 2007.

Infront Moto Racing President Giuseppe Luongo: “Antonio has made the history of MXGP, not only with his numerous titles, but also with his behaviour, with his respect and with his fairness, he is an example for all the young.  We will miss Antonio on the race track, but hopefully we will not miss him in our world where he will continue to offer his experience and knowledge to the next generations. Antonio, thank you for all you have offered and you continue to offer to Motocross.”

FIM President Jorge Viegas: “What else can I say. This kind of champions is what we work for. When Tony, not the rider but the man, is leaving us we are losing a member of the family. But Tony will stay with us for sure, I don’t know what he will do but of course he will stay with us. And I’m pleased to stay, in our hearts, thank you for all that you gave to us and please stay as you are, a great man. Thank you”.

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director: “We’ve had the privilege to be part of Tony’s story since 2010. We know how much we value him as a person and as one of the best riders the sport has seen, and it special that the rest of MXGP feel the same way with this retirement of his number. #222 belongs to Tony. He owned MXGP for a time when he changed the game and brought so much dominance to the championship. He raised it to a new level for riders while also showing a passion for racing that allowed him to have such a long and amazing career. Thanks to Infront Motor Racing and to the FIM for making this gesture. It’s not often a remarkable athlete like Tony comes along.”

Antonio Cairoli: “Thank you everybody for this nice press conference, I really didn’t expect it. Here in this paddock, I think I made a lot of friends and I think everybody likes me because I am who I am in and outside of the track. I wish I could stay longer but my body is not recovering as well as in the past race after race. I think it’s time to do something else but to stay of course inside the paddock and help other kids to grow and to follow the same dream I had when I was a kid. Thanks to everybody for this amazing journey, I am really happy to be here, and I hope to continue to help MXGP and all the kids that are dreaming”.

European Junior E-Motocross series primed for the biggest stage in Motocross

MANTOVA (Italy) 24 September 2021 – The biggest, historic, and most prestigious annual event for off-road motorcycle circuit racing will embrace the newest shoots of technology and the first waves of fresh junior talent. The Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations has been a battle of the ‘best of the best’ for more than seven decades and will now welcome and highlight the potential heroes for years to come.

The European Junior E-Motocross Series, created in conjunction between Infront Moto Racing and KTM, is a ground-breaking five-round series that will endorse e-powered motorsport and showcase the capabilities of e-technology to a global audience. The series opens at Mantova for a first invitational event, before heading to the next four rounds of the 2021 FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship in Germany, France, and Spain. With over 50 applications received, the top young riders across Europe will be steering one of KTM SX-E 5, Husqvarna Motorcycles EE 5 and the GASGAS MC-E 5 models.

The European Junior E-Motocross series will give small riders the ideal initiation and taste of elite level events. The paddock environment and the proximity to the Motocross World Championship teams provides just one advantage, they will also be able get a feel for a section of a Grand Prix spec circuit. At the end of the season all riders taking part in the full series will be able to enjoy a three-day training camp with either a KTM/Husqvarna Motorcycles/GASGAS Factory team, and the winner of the series can take his or her pick from the range of offroad bikes from the brands’ respective catalogues.

The electric-based machinery of KTM SX-E 5, Husqvarna Motorcycles EE 5 and the GASGAS MC-E 5 was seen as the perfect platform for the ‘EMXE Junior series’. The combination of easy but potent power delivery, sufficient range and benchmark handling for the product sector means it is not only a fierce learning aid for mini riders making their first outings and laps on two wheels but also for those eying progression into more serious racing. As well as better sustainability another prominent benefit is the low maintenance level of the electric mini motocross bikes.

David Luongo, Infront Motor Racing CEO: “When we talked with Pierer Mobility about establishing the European Junior E-Motocross championship we were excited to be able to bring this proven electric technology to MXGP and then being able to make the international launch at Mantova. It doesn’t get much bigger or better than the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations. With KTM we know the series will be first-class in terms of organisation, and ensuring the best and safest learning experiences for the kids. It’s an important and novel addition to our racing structure and a very welcome one. We can’t wait to see the bikes and the kids in the sand in Italy.”

Florian Burguet, KTM Global Marketing Vice President: “The European Junior E-Motocross is not only a fabulous opportunity to allow youngsters to see and feel what it’s like to be part of a top level championship but also to show what our electric mini motocross bikes can do. It’s amazing that we can give the riders the chance to take it to the track at Mantova and be part of an occasion like the Motocross of Nations and then really get stuck into the championship during the Grands Prix. We love racing and EMXE Junior is about welcoming new kids and names and faces into this special world. It’s a big deal for the Group, and we hope that riders and their families can have fun, can learn and experience something that’s new and unique in international motocross.”
