Coldenhoff and Prado victorious in Imola as Gajser is the 2019 MXGP Champion!

IMOLA (Italy) 18 August 2019 – The !5th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship concluded today at the historic circuit of Imola where Team HRC's Tim Gajser won his third Motocross World Title in his illustrious career and he is now the first one Honda rider who made it. The history in Imola was not just made it by the Slovenian rider as in MXGP Class Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff won his first GP of the season and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado had in his pockets the victory number 14th out of 15th of 2019.

Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s Arnaud Tonus led the opening MXGP race early, followed by Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s Gautier Paulin, Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer in fifth position. Paulin moved into the lead and Gajser quickly rode into third place.

Gajser did not take the easy route as he was pushing hard to get past the two Yamaha’s in front and he moved alongside Tonus, but then lost a spot as he collided with Tonus letting Paulin charge into first and Coldenhoff into second place, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass was third and Gajser found himself fourth.

Gajser pushed his way past Jonass and was back into third and Coldenhoff was all over Paulin for the lead until he took a wild ride and nearly crashed. Gajser managed to take the second place and Coldenhoff moved into first place.

Jonass passed Gajser and then the drama continued as Gajser crashed and dropped in 8th. Despite the crash the Slovenian was still pushing 100%.

After eight laps Coldenhoff held a lead of nearly eight seconds ahead of Paulin, then came Seewer, Jonass, and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team’s Romain Febvre in fifth place. Febvre moved past Jonass, and then the Latvian made a mistake and Tonus and Gajser also passed the Husqvarna rider. Gajser moved into sixth and started hunting down Tonus and Febvre.

Gajser nearly crashed again as he slipped a little while Febvre went down hard and Paulin, Tonus, and Gajser all passed as Febvre dropped back to 11th place. Coldenhoff eventually won the race from Seewer, Paulin and Tonus as Gajser settled for his fifth but it was enough to win his third Motocross World Championship.

Coldenhoff was again in front of the second MXGP race taking the FOX Holeshot ahead of Seewer, Jonass, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing’s Tommy Searle, Gajser, Paulin, Febvre, Tonus, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Arminas Jasikonis and Gebben Van Venrooi Kawasaki’s Alessandro Lupino. Coldenhoff controlled the race up front as he was three seconds ahead after three laps. Behind him Seewer was a further two seconds ahead of Jonass and Gajser and Paulin rounded out the top five.

Four laps in and Coldenhoff was five seconds in front, and RFX KTM’s Shaun Simpson made his first appearance in the top ten as he moved into 10th place just behind Lupino. Gajser moved past Jonass, and the top five was Coldenhoff, Seewer, Gajser, Jonass and Paulin.

Seven laps and Coldenhoff extended his lead to seven seconds, then came Seewer, Gajser, Jonass, Paulin and Febvre in sixth place. Simpson suffered some issued as he dropped to 24th and HRC’s Brian Bogers was forced out of the race after a crash.

Gajser moved into second place and both him and Seewer were closing down the lead of Coldenhoff. Seewer was quickly back past Gajser for second, but then Seewer made a mistake and Gajser was relegated the Yamaha rider back to third.

Coldenhoff made some great laps and made his lead nearly 10 seconds on lap 12, with Gajser still second, then Seewer, Jonass and Paulin. In the closing stages of the race Paulin passed Jonass for fourth place and Coldenhoff won race 2 from Gajser and Seewer.

Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff walked away with the perfect 1-1 results and took the Grand Prix victory. It is the third time the Dutchman has won a Grand Prix, adding to his MX2 win in 2013 and his MXGP win in 2015. Second overall was Jeremy Seewer of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team with 2-3 scores. While Team HRC’s Tim Gajser didn’t win the MXGP of Italy today at the magnificent Imola facility, it was the big picture that counted, and his 5-2 results were enough to secure third overall and more importantly the 2019 MXGP championship.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “I won a race and the overall in 2015, but now going 1-1 here it is amazing and I wish to thank my team. We had a tough time and a lot of negatives, but now I’m happy and my boss too. I won my first GP with him and also my third today. It means a lot. I never got 1-1 in the MXGP class and I want to thank everyone for helping me out.”

Jeremy Seewer: “I had two amazing races, I was consistend and I tried to make zero mistakes. The heat was brutal but we go one step higher every time. I want to thank the team, my fans and my girlfriend.”

Tim Gajser: “It was crazy. I am super happy, and I couldn’t wish for a better season or a team around me. I didn’t sleep a lot last night but today is a big day and I tried to take this race the same as all the others. I was fast in the first race even if I didn’t have the best start but I got to second and tried to win the race, but I was quite nervous and I couldn’t. Second race was better. I’m really happy to finish on the podium and to get the 2019 MXGP Title. Also, I want to thank my family and my girlfriend, and all the fans who follow me.”

After a lap Sanayei continued to lead and Prado was all over him, with Vialle also close in third place. Prado moved into the lead in the waves section and the same time Vialle dropped out of the top ten as he cruised around the circuit after a crash. Vialle was forced to retire from the race.

Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha Official MX2’s Jago Geerts moved into the top ten after an average start and Team HRC’s Calvin Vlaanderen moved through the pack to get 12thon the third lap. Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Brian Moreau also crashed hard and dropped back while Olsen moved into second place.

After 13 laps the lead by Prado over Olsen was 10 seconds and Renaux in third was 23 seconds off the pace of the leader. Prado won the MXGP of Italy race 1 from Olsen and Renaux.

When the gate dropped for the second MX2 race Geerts took the FOX Holeshot, but Prado again led very quickly from Geerts, Olsen, Larranaga and Vlaanderen. After a lap Prado held a five-second lead over Geerts, and Vialle went down hard and again it was forced out of the race. A lap later the lead was eight seconds and again the Spanish teenager was a league of his own in the MX2 class.

Renaux was on a charge as he moved into fourth place, and F&H Racing Kawasaki team’s Adam Sterry dropped to fifth. On lap seven Prado was nine seconds ahead of Olsen, with Vlaanderen in third, then Renaux, and Geerts fifth. Prado continued to cruise out front and won his 26thrace of the season from Olsen and Vlaanderen.

I just wanted to be safe out of this race and hopefully we can do the same in the second race.”

Italian Anthem for Iacopi in Imola

IMOLA (Italy) 18 August 2019 – The penultimate round of the EMX2T Presented by FMF Racing took place in Imola, Italy where the Italian wild card JK Racing Yamaha’s Manuel Iacopi had his first race win and his first overall of the career with a stunning 1-1 performance. Second overall was Gianluca Deghi with 2-3 results, while the third position belonged to the new red plate holder Verde Substance KTM team’s Brad Anderson with 5-2 scores.

The local rider Manuel Iacopi was just too good for the two championship contenders Brad Anderson and Ecomaxx Fuels Mike Kras who are even now in the standings both with 235 points as the championship will be decided at the final round with just one round to go in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey on September 7.

In the opening EMX2T championship presented by FMF Racing race on Saturday it was Iacopi who took the holeshot, and led Pier Filippo Bertuzzo, Kras, Andrea Gorini, and Deghi into the first lap. Anderson was back in sixth place and tried to work his way past riders to get to Kras.

By lap three Kras had moved into second place while Anderson was struggling in eight place after a mistake. Race 1 carried on and Iacopi continued to lead throughout the race, Deghi moved into second on lap 14, and Kras held third, while Anderson had moved up to fifth position. Iacopi won the first EMX race of his career by nine seconds on Deghi, with Kras third.

Iacopi led into the second EMX2T championship presented by FMF Racing race from Anderson, Matteo Del Coco, Bertuzzo and Emanuele Alberio in fifth. Kras was down in the first lap and found himself back in 29thspot. As Anderson pushed his way into first place, Kras was up to 20thplace on lap one.

After two laps the lead by Anderson was a second ahead of Iacopi, with Del Coco third. Kras continued to move through the pack and was 17th on lap two. Iacopi moved back into the lead on lap four as he passed Anderson, and Kras was up to 13th position.

Iacopi extended his lead to more than two seconds on lap five over Anderson, and Kras moved into the top ten, doing an amazing job considering he‘s been suffering an injury to his left leg. By lap 10 Kras was up to sixth place, and Iacopi led Anderson by more than four seconds.

With the race getting close to its ending, Anderson started to close up on Iacopi, and Kras was right onto the back wheel of Bertuzzo for fifth place. Iacopi though turned up his speed and moved away from Anderson on the final lap, eventually winning race 2 and getting his first overall victory in his career from Anderson and Deghi while Kras finished fifth.

Manuel Iacopi: “It is a great weekend, both the first and second races were perfect. In race 1 I took the holeshot and it was an incredible feeling, then I had the lead the rest of the race. No holeshot in the second race, but I’m super happy to win my first overall.”

First Ever FIM E-XBike World Cup kicks off in Imola

IMOLA (Italy) 17 August 2019 – The inaugural FIM E-X Bike World Cup took place in Imola during the MXGP of Italy where contestants from several parts of Europe attempted the Italian MXGP track at ‘Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari’ for the first time with an electric bicycle.

The unique race, which took place at the end of the MX racing day to make the track adapted to electric bicycles, combined together 2 classes of e-bicycles, the premier class EXBGP which saw bikes whose assistance can exceed the can exceed 25 km/h but does not exceed 45 km/h and the second class EXB2 whose assistance can not exceed the 25 km/h both with separated classifications for men and women.

While among the E-X Bike athletes big names such as former MXGP rider Davide Guarneri, current WorldSBK star Marco Melandri, EMX2T Presented by FMF racing rider Todd Kellet and former Dakar riders such as Marek Dabrowski were in attendance, surprising winners were the Slovenian Anze Svetek in EXBGP class who also won the overall race, Italian Roberto Fabbri in EXB2 category and the 2 female E-X Bike riders attending the event, the French Caroline Duchene and Hungarian Niki Makk in EXBGPW and EXB2 respectively.

When the gate dropped it was the German Mark Scheu who took the first holeshot of this competition followed by the Slovenian Anze Svetek who was able to take the lead straight away running on the outside of Scheu and managed to lead for the whole race.

Following the Slovenian the second position changed as Italian Gianni Meschini made past the early leader Scheu who was able to passed him back a few second after. The first EXB2 rider was the Italian Mattia Arduino in 4th followed by Superenduro E-Bike rider Mattia Folchi in 5th while Italian athletes Davide Guarneri and Marco Melandri both riding the EXB2 category were in 8th and 10th position respectively.

While the race carried on Folchi found himself in fourth as Finnish Eddie Findling went trough for third and a few seconds later Davide Guarneri, who pushed hard for a podium on his category, the EXB2, managed for a 5th place after battling with Folchi and Mattia Arduino. The French lady Caroline Duchene was consistent on her 14th place and Hungarian Niki Makk was back in the pack after a bicycle technical issue she suffered at the start.

Scheu kept going to push hard in second position in the EXBGP class, the same category of the race leader Svetek while Roberto Fabbri finished third overall in the race and first in category EXB2.

At the end of the 25 minutes plus 1 lap Slovenian Anze Svetek won the EXBGP category followed by the German Mark Scheu and Italian Gianni Meschini while Caroline Duchene was the first ever EXBGPW World Cup Winner.

The top step of the podium in EXB2 was for Roberto Fabbri followed by Davide Guarneri and Mattia Folchi while Niki Makk was the 2019 EXB2W World Cup Winner.

EXBGP World Cup Winner Anze Svetek: “It was not as easy as it looked and I had no idea on what to expect today but it was just an amazing day. I had Slovenian fans cheering on me at every corner and it was a fantastic feeling”

EXBGPW World Cup Winner Caroline Duchene: “It’s a honour for me to be here. I normally ride the E-Bike French Championship but the circuits are very different. The start was the hardest part for me but I really enjoyed the whole race. It’s such a nice feeling to be a World Cup winner”

EXB2 World Cup Winner Roberto Fabbri: “I had a very good race and I did not expect it was that fun. I trained on my e-bike just a few days and I did not expect it could work so well on a motocross track.”

EXB2W World Cup Winner Niki Makk: "Unfortunately at the first lap I had an issue with the engine of my bike but I made it work eventually, it was tough but I’m happy I have done it. It was such a cool experience and I smiled the whole race. I wish to thank all people who supported me to make it real”

IMOLA (Italy) 17 August 2019 – The Italian circuit of Imola hosted the opening race day of the MXGP of Italy amidst the Italian and Slovenian fans who gathered to cheer their heroes up.

The soon to be crowned MXGP champion now goes into Sunday’s races with pole position and no doubt will be hoping to celebrate his third Motocross World Championship after the first race tomorrow. Second and third in the qualifier were Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff and teammate Ivo Monticelli.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado dominated the Saturday MX2 qualification race at the Imola circuit today. The Spanish rider led early and never gave his lead away. Second was F&H Kawasaki Racing’s Henry Jacobi and third Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen.

Together with MXGP and MX2 Qualifying races, the opening EMX2T presented by FMF Racing and WMX races were taking place with JK Racing wild card Manuel Iacopi winning his first race but the championship battle is still between Ecomaxx Fuels Mike Kras and Brad Anderson of the Verde Substance KTM team.

Bike It DRT Kawasaki’s Courtney Duncan has won a very eventful opening race for the Women’s Motocross World Championship. The New Zealander led early, only to give the lead to Nancy Van De Ven, before catching and passing the Dutch women, who eventually finished third behind Duncan and German rider Larissa Papenmeier. Duncan now has a 19-point lead in the championship points.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team’s Romain Febvre led the qualification race from Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki Racing’s Alessandro Lupino, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tommy Searle, Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s Gautier Paulin, Standing Construct KTM’s Ivo Monticelli, Standing Construct KTM’s Max Anstie, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass, Volodymyr Tarasov, and Samuele Bernardini in 10th.

After a lap the lead was less than a second, and Monticelli moved into third place, ahead of Jonass and Paulin. Febvre and Gajser remained close going into the fourth lap and Gajser clocked the quickest lap of the race. Coldenhoff made it for fifth place, with Anstie sixth and Searle losing places fast in 10thplace.

On lap five Gajser took the lead, but Febvre quickly repassed and managed to be back in front. Behind them were Monticelli, Coldenhoff, and Jonass. After eight laps Gajser went for another charge towards Febvre and closed right up to his back wheel, the Slovenian moved into the lead but once again Febvre charged Gajser and made it for first. Back in the pack Seewer was charging Paulin and he managed to go through.

Febvre made a mistake and Gajser passed him while Monticelli moved into second place for a moment and Gajser pulled to nearly three seconds away from those two. Soon after Coldenhoff also started pushing Febvre and moved past on lap 10.

Coldenhoff, who is in great form at the moment, moved into second place, relegating Monticelli to third, then came Febvre and Anstie. Tim Gajser won his sixt qualifying race of the season from Coldenhoff and Italian sensation Ivo Monticelli.

Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki’s Alessandro Lupino had a good start but he could not finish the race due to issues on his exhaust pipe.

Tim Gajser: “I’m really happy for my qualifying racer, I was feeling very good, the track is gnarly, and I liked it. I had a nice battle with Romain (Febvre), and I enjoyed that because it was clean, and I look forward to tomorrow. It’s going to be a special day”
