EMX250

Monarchs of Matterley Van Doninck & Bernardini

MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain), 25 May 2014 - One of the perks of racing along side MXGP is the effort that goes into delivering the racers with a world class circuit race after race. Round three of the European Championships EMX300 and EMX250 witnessed this first hand in Matterley Basin this weekend, when despite the constant lashings of rain the location had received over the past three days and the mud they had to race yesterday, they woke up this morning to glorious sunshine and a circuit which had obviously undergone a ton of over night prep in order to supply prime racing conditions for their second races which took place earlier today.

Proving to be the most versatile this weekend, yet another immensely talented Belgian Creymert Racing’s Brent Van Doninck took his first EMX250 victory of the year while TM Racing Team’s Samuele Bernardini narrowly won the EMX300 over the crowd favorite GL12 Racing’s Lewis Gregory.

EMX250

Track compound was close to perfect for race two offering a pleasant change to the slushy surface of yesterday. When the gates dropped it was drama for yesterdays race one winner Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Ben Watson who got caught up with Martin Racing Technology Team’s Michele Cervellin on turn one and went down hard. Meanwhile, Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Sullivan Jaulin took his fluo Troy Lee Designs gear to a massive holeshot leading a trio of HSF Logistics Motorsport Team riders, Brian Bogers, Frederik Van Der Vlist and Ceriel Klein Kromhof.

While the white and blue dressed KTM’s of the HSF Logistics Motorsport Team hogged the top five for the first few laps it wasn’t long before they were broken up by a couple of orange ones belonging to Creymert Racing’s Brent Van Doninck and local kid Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Adam Sterry.

Van Doninck who had proved he was a force to be reckoned with in race one yesterday coming home in second, was hastily slicing his way through the pack. Around mid-way the Belgian Van Doninck was all over Dutch Van Der Vlist, who was riding a wide bike in third. A few laps on, the Belgian had worn Van Der Vlist out, taking over third in an impressive pass down the hill and checking out within a matter of seconds.

Meanwhile Jaulin was setting a blistering pace out front, riding flawless to lead every lap for the win. Bogers, who had also been riding super smooth in second, eventually came under attack from a determined Van Doninck. With Van Doninck making the pass with only a few laps to go, Bogers eased off and rode it home for third.

Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Adam Sterry flew the flag for the United Kingdom putting in an impressive performance to take fourth and an outstanding third overall for his home EMX250 round. Meanwhile, the EMX250’s round one winner Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Jorge Zaragoza recovered from a early race mistake to push his way back to fifth and second overall.

With Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Sullivan Jaulin taking a win today but only a twentieth yesterday, the Frenchman had no shot at the podium. Likewise for HSF Logistics Motorsports Brian Bogers who crossed the line in third this morning, but only fourteenth yesterday. With that said, the most consistent and versatile rider here at round three of the European EMX250 Championship was Creymert Racing’s Brent Van Doninck who took two second’s this weekend for the overall victory and his first of the season.

Keeping the thousands of British fans, who came out today to witness the awesome racing that went on, happy British rider CNC doors KTM’s Steven Clarke holds on to the EMX250 red plate twenty-one points clear of Spaniard Jorge Zaragoza in second.

EMX300

The British fans went crazy for the sweet sound of tinny two-strokes this weekend as the European EMX300 produced some of their best racing this season. Yesterday for race one, GL12 Racing’s Lewis Gregory diced the lead with the red plate holder Samuele Bernardini to take his second EMX300 race victory of the season. Bernardini held on for second and Marco Maddii rounded out the top three.

Today for race two, Team Maddii Racing’s Marco Maddii locked the throttle on his KTM 300SX wide open to take the holeshot ahead of the local legend Lewis Gregory and TM Racing Teams Samuele Bernardini. While Maddii was riding fast and led the majority of lap one, he couldn’t match the pace of Gregory and Bernardini as they flew past and took on a race of their own.

Already within the first couple of laps, the EMX300 red plate holder Samuele Bernardini made a statement, blowing past Gregory to take the lead. With Gregory switching roles from hare to hound, hound he did remaining close enough to breathe in that sweet smell of two-stroke smoke wafting from the TM300 exhaust of Bernardini.

After a race of watching Gregory stalk his prey, the moment arrived with two laps to go and he pounced. Upon taking the lead the crowd went mental with the sound of horns drowning out the ‘tinging’ sound of the two-strokes which were pinned around the fast and tacky Matterley Basin. Half a lap later the resounding sound of horns spiked again as the local Gregory got squirley after the finish and lost the lead. With one lap to go the race was fierce, and although he ground at Bernardini right to the finish, a second race win would not be as the Brit was forced to grit his teeth and settle for second and second overall for the day.

Bernardini took his third race win of the season and second overall victory to hold on to the red plate for yet another round. Marco Maddii rode two solid races unchallenged for a pair of thirds and third overall while two Brits in the form of Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Josh Spinks and Jamie Law rounded out the top five.

Ready for a round eight rampage

FUNCHAL (Portugal), 21 May 2014 – Staged amidst the refreshing greenery of the rolling countryside in Winchester, England, one of the greatest circuits on the calendar, Matterley Basin, gears up to host round eight of the FIM Motocross World Championship with support classes; round three of the European Championships EMX250 and EMX300 and round two of the Honda EMX150.

MXGP

Coming fresh off of his first double victory since round fourteen of the 2013 series, last year’s round of Great Britain victor Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle will be radiating confidence this weekend as he continues in his attempt to chip away at the MXGP championship lead.

The most consistent rider this year, Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek’s trophy cabinet is starting to fill up fast. While the silver wear continues to glisten as the young Belgian continues to shine, it will be a good idea to keep a firm eye on him as he inches closer to his first ever MXGP victory.

Taking his place as the third Belgian inside the top four, Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s veteran Kevin Strijbos is currently teaching the youngsters a thing or two as he sits a lonely fourth in the championship standings, fifty-six points shy of Van Horebeek in third, and fifteen points ahead of injured Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team rider Gautier Paulin in fifth.

Meanwhile the red plate holder, reigning champ and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Antonio Cairoli had a rough weekend in Spain, but was nothing in comparison to how tough the following week turned out to be. At the press conference in Talavera de la Reina, the seven-times world champion mentioned he looks forward to racing in Matterley Basin because it is a great track, wide with plenty of lines. Now, after the tragic passing of his father, a couple days after MXGP of Spain, the Italian will be riding with a new angel on his shoulder and it would be no surprise to see him land back on top of the box.

Team HRC’s Evgeny Bobryshev came out swinging in Matterley Basin last year taking two fourths for his second podium finish of the year. Meanwhile, the local kids are set to rev the crowd up this weekend. Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Shaun Simpson has been tearing up the British championship this year and isn’t doing too shabby in MXGP standings either as he currently holds on to eleventh place, only ten points shy of Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing’s Steven Frossard in seventh.

Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Jake Nicholls punched in a career best finish at the last round of MXGP in Spain with a remarkable sixth overall. It’s easy to forget the Brit is a rookie in MXGP, and last season in Matterley he fought for the MX2 overall, meaning big things could be on the horizon for the youngster this weekend.

It will be a red flag and re-start for CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy MXGP’s Tommy Searle, who made a brief appearance at MXGP of The Netherlands in Valkenswaard before deciding it was too early to come back. Now with more laps under his belt, more training and more confidence, there’s no reason why the British fan favorite won’t be charging for a solid spot inside the top ten.

Championship Classification Top Ten: 1. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 304 points; 2. Clement Desalle (BEL, SUZ), 280 p.; 3. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, YAM), 276 p.; 4. Kevin Strijbos (BEL, SUZ), 220 p.; 5. Gautier Paulin (FRA, KAW), 205 p.; 6. Maximilian Nagl (GER, HON), 166 p.; 7. Steven Frossard (FRA, KAW), 142 p.; 8. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, HON), 136 p.; 9. MX2

“I haven’t ridden enough this year”, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings stressed throughout the press conferences at the beginning of the year raising questions, is it for real or is it just and excuse and the other guys have just stepped up their game? After the last two rounds it is safe to say it was a legitimate excuse, and now ‘The Bullet’ is officially back, and is all set to make a statement as he heads for his third consecutive world title.

While both CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy riders Dylan Ferrandis and Arnaud Tonus have had a taste of glory this year, the duo have realized there is no time to rest on their laurels as the Flying Dutchman has returned to full speed and it is going to take something special to slow him down.

As for Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre, the French youngster has had the heart of a lion over the last couple of rounds but will need to find a way to iron out the kinks if he is to challenge for a podium finish at the end of the year. Meanwhile it’s back to the drawing board for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier as he continues to plug away in hopes of defending his number two ranking.

As for the mystery man and local hero BikeIT Yamaha Cosworths Max Anstie, he will definitely be hoping to walk the talk this weekend. The humorous Brit is always in great spirits, and is enjoyable to watch on the track. When his head is in the right space, there is no doubt the friendly red head can fight for a win.

Championship Classification Top Ten: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 294 points; 2. Arnaud Tonus (SUI, KAW), 267 p.; 3. Romain Febvre (FRA, HUS), 232 p.; 4. Dylan Ferrandis (FRA, KAW), 225 p.; 5. Roll on round 10 in Maggiora!

With already seven rounds of MXGP done and dusted, one of the most worshipped rounds of MXGP is fast approaching. MXGP of Italy, home of the seven-time FIM Motocross World Champion Antonio Cairoli, will take place in Maggiora as round ten of the FIM Motocross World Championship on the weekend of June 15.

After being voted best organizer in 2013, the club in Maggiora has signed on to host a round of MXGP right through to 2020 with the pinnacle being the FIM Motocross of Nations which is set to take place in 2016, exactly 30 years after the ground breaking FIM Motocross of Nations in Maggiora back in 1986.

At the circuit, which is also recognized as “Mottaccio del Balmone”, preparation has already begun with several projects already in progress. Excavators are widening some areas of the track, as well as including some new obstacles. The public area will be staggered to allow better vision of the racing for more spectators and roads that lead to the track will be more efficient with an added 3 meters of width on the main road in. Along with these things, new lighting systems will be put in place in the restaurant area and food and beverage services will be handled internally.

Last year, Maggiora’s round of the FIM Motocross World Championship drew in a massive 38,000 spectators, 1000 VIP guests, 157 media representatives, 10,000 cars, 1000 campers and 8 hours of LIVE TV coverage, making it one of the most successful rounds of that year. The club in Maggiora would like to say a big thanks to “SCHAVA S.R.L”, Paolo Schneider and Stefano Avandero, and we look forward to seeing you back again this year to enjoy round 10 of the FIM Motocross World Championship featuring MXGP, MX2, EMX250 and EMX300 racing at our cutting edge motocross park in Maggiora, Italy.

Gregory and Jaulin jolly in Spain

TALAVERA DE LA REINA (Spain), 11 May 2014 - The old school track of Talevera de la Reina which had been lathered with water in order to keep the dust down in the sizzling hot temperatures, proved to be a challenge for the second rounds of the European Championships EMX250 and EMX300 classes. Proving they’ve got a solid base on traditional style tracks, Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Sullivan Jaulin and GL12 Racing’s Lewis Gregory had their lines dialed to win their first European Championship rounds of their careers.

EMX250

When the gates dropped for the EMX250’s race two, race ones runner-up Sullivan Jaulin had his Bud Racing Kawasaki KXF250 cranking, leading KTM Sarholz’ Henry Jacobi, CNC KTM’s Steven Clarke, Spanish hero Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Jorge Zaragoza and Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Ben Watson around turn one. While the Frenchman Jaulin stole the show looking at home on the tricky hard pack surface of Talavera, a battle for second flourished in the closing stages of the race.

Henry Jacobi, who at one stage of the race had a gap of five seconds over the Brits race one winner Steven Clarke and red plate holder Ben Watson, soon began to come undone dropping back to fourth with only two laps to go. Meanwhile the battle of the Brits raged on as the duo Clarke and Sterry continued to bang bars while another Brit in the form of Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Adam Sterry was laying the pressure on German Jacobi.

While Jaulin brought home his first win of the season to win round two of the European Championship EMX250 on his debut appearance, it was a nail biting final lap for the four that followed. Clarke held on for second only marginally ahead of his fellow countryman Watson, to tie with Jaulin for the win but was forced to be happy with second overall for the round due to Jaulin having the best result in the second race. Meanwhile KTM Sarholz’ Henry Jacobi got the job done for fourth only just fending off a charging Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Adam Sterry who settled for fifth which in combination with his seventh place yesterday landed him on the third step of the podium.

Local talent Jorge Zaragoza who took a hard fought third place in race one yesterday, struggled to find traction out on the slippery hills here in his homeland of Spain. A few spills and a lot of mistakes saw the likeable Spaniard struggle his way to a nineteenth place finish.

After today’s result’s CNC KTM’s Steven Clarke takes the red plate from his fellow countryman Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Ben Watson. Watson drops back to second pushing the Spaniard Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Jorge Zaragoza back to third.

Jaulin mentioned before taking to the top step of the podium, “It is not so easy in this heat but it was ok for me. Yeah, I was tired in the heat at the end of the race, but I got a good start and took the holeshot and pulled a gap from eight seconds so it was ok. I am happy and I will finish out the rest of the European Championship with Bud Racing Kawasaki”.

EMX300

The sweet smell of pre-mixed smoke filled the air as the EMX300 gate got set to drop and when it did it was Team Maddii Racing’s Marco Maddii who got off to a ripper of a start taking the holeshot and running away with his first race win of the season. Meanwhile, the red plate holder TM Racing Team’s Samuele Bernardini had a better grip on the track today, setting the fastest lap time of the race on lap five and redeeming himself after yesterdays errors to take second ahead of race one winner GL12 Racing’s Lewis Gregory.

Chasing the top three CEC I.S Racing’s Toms Macuks found a way around Wilvo Forkrent KTM’s Kenny Vandueren around mid race and started reeling in Gregory for third. Upon approach with two laps to go, the Latvian Macuks buried the front end in a sticky section while trying to pass Gregory and went down. With his chances of a top three more or less out the window, he decided to ride easy for the remainder of the race to take home an easy fourth ahead of Vandueren.

After taking a remarkable win yesterday, Gregory bagged third in race two today for his first ever European Championship overall victory. Team Maddii Racing’s Marco Maddii combined fourth with his momentous victory today for second overall while CEC I.S Racing’s Toms Macuks rounded off the podium with second and fourth place results.

Wrapped with his career best finish, Gregory said, “I’m over the moon, I’m a little bit lost for words a little bit. Yesterday I got out of the gate good and just rode good and today I knew I just had to be mistake free and I stood a chance. I’m just so happy right now, I want to thank all my sponsors and every one that helps me”

After this weekends results, the championship leader board remains the same. TM Racing Team’s Samuele Bernardini holds on to the red plate three points clear of Team Maddii Racing’s Marco Maddii, while CEC I.S Racing’s Toms Macuks remains in third a further five points back.
