Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team welcomes Romain Febvre

The Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team is proud to announce that Romain Febvre has joined the squad on a multiple year deal for the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship.

Next season KRT will line up two of the most successful and experienced riders in the series as the Frenchman joins Clément Desalle to compete on the KX450 Kawasaki, one of the outstanding models in the paddock which has achieved podium results and victories with the Belgian rider every year since 2016. Both Clément and Romain had a tough season this year due to injuries but they remain two of the fastest riders in the highly-competitive MXGP class.

Crowned world champion in 2015 during his rookie season Febvre, who will turn 28 in December, has raced to podium results every year since he joined the MXGP category; despite missing a third of the 2018 season due to injuries he claimed five GP podiums with a double-victory in the Czech Republic, won four races, took four pole-positions, led ninety laps of racing and posted the fastest lap five times. With his long racing experience he will form a perfect twin-spearhead alongside Desalle; the Belgian will enter his fifth season with the team and has formed a perfect relationship with both the bike and the team staff who are more excited than ever to start working with both riders. Clement has now recovered from his injury and will start testing soon, while Romain still needs to wait a few more weeks to recover from the broken leg he sustained during the Swedish round of the World Championship when he was racing for another podium result.

Romain Febvre: "We turn to a new page but the book is still open and there is a new adventure on the horizon! I’m very happy with this choice; it’s never easy to change after five years on the same team but I’m sure this is the best moment to do it. My injury late this season will delay my first days with the team, but I will be even more motivated later this winter when I can get back on a bike again! Everyone in the team is highly motivated and I’m impatient to be with them and on the bike. As far as my injury is concerned it’s taking a long time of course but everything is going as planned by the medical staff; I will soon have the first examination six weeks after surgery; we’ll see how it is with the femur and we’ll be able to make our plans for the rehabilitation. I will take a longer winter break than usual but patience is the only option and I don’t want to endanger any stage so I will be able to start testing in good conditions and to open this new chapter of my career on a good basis. The team is 100% behind me; they have a strong experience of racing and I’m sure we’ll achieve great things together.”

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni (KRT Team Owner): “We are very happy to welcome Romain to the team alongside Clément; both have a lot of experience and I’m convinced that they will join forces to cooperate and get the best from our Kawasaki; it's a great bike which both of them will want to put on the podium. We know that Romain always gives 100% and we confidently expect that both he and Clément will put the bike in the leading pack. It gives us great satisfaction to see one of this season's GP winners so enthusiastic to join us. We are confident that the new KX450, which we have developed so meticulously since the end of last year, has a huge potential. It’s a winning bike and we now have two GP winners on the team to show that to the world.”

Steve Guttridge (Kawasaki Europe Race Manager): “This is going to be an exciting chapter in both the teams and Kawasaki’s MXGP history. We are putting all efforts into KRT for 2020 so now with Clement being joined by Romain we believe that we are ready to seriously fight for the title”

YZ bLUcRU Riders Wrap Up 2019 SuperFinale

ASSEN (The Netherlands) 30 September 2019 – After two thrilling days of riding on the international stage for the first time at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, the 2019 YZ bLUcRU FIM Europe Cup started on Saturday as for the first time in the history the bLUcRU program was split into 65, 85 and 125 classes, totalling nearly 100 of the most promising young Yamaha riders in Europe racing on the same track as the pro MXGP riders.

Beginning with a damp opening free practice session in the morning, the YZ65 youngsters were the first competitors to ride the newly built sand track. Followed by the 85 and 125 classes, the YZ bLUcRU relished the opportunity to test their machinery and talents on the world stage for the first time, having made the cut for the SuperFinale based on their respective national championship results.

The YZ65 and YZ85 classes held their SuperFinale races on Saturday also, putting on two thrilling races for the packed Assen grandstands. In the YZ65 field of 36 entrants local rider #484 Dex Kooiker set the pace in timed practice on a lap of 2’17.979, followed by Latvian rider #727 Jëkabs Kubulins and Swedish rider #777 Freddie Bartlett. As the race came around and the gate dropped Kubulins took the holeshot, establishing a commanding lead at the front. Behind him a close fight for second and third ensued, Swedish rider Bartlett starting well to hold second ahead of Dane #80 Frederik Rahn Stampe. With the sun shining track conditions improved and aided Kubulins in maintaining his lead to take the chequered flag by 12.2s, joined on the podium by Bartlett and Rahn Stampe in second and third.

Following straight on from the youngest riders, the YZ85 class took positions at the gate. In timed practice Dutch rider #567 Levi Schrik set the pace with a 2’04.096, just edging out Norwegian #78 Adrian Bolviken in second ahead of Swedish rider #192 Hamilton Eriksson. As anticipation built for another gate drop in quick succession, the 27 YZ85 youngsters took their starting positions. Schrik made a quick getaway ahead of Bolviken, with a strong start from Swede #910 Olle Mårtensson propelling him up the order. A close battle for the top five places ensued, Mårtensson dicing with Schrik for the lead while Bolviken and Eriksson battled for the final podium place. Ultimately Mårtensson’s pace proved strongest, taking victory by 11 seconds ahead of Schrik and Bolviken who fended off a tough attacked from Eriksson.

The top three finishers and two carefully chosen wildcards in each SuperFinale category will now be picked to attend the bLUcRU Masterclass 18, 19 & 20 November in Spain, where they will hone their skills further under professional tutelage as they begin their international racing journeys.

The YZ125 riders had their race on Sunday to close the 2019 YZ bLUcRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale and begin another exciting chapter in the Yamaha story.

The YZ125 riders faced heavy rain and different conditions on Sunday at the TT Circuit Assen, contesting the last 2019 SuperFinale race after the YZ65 and YZ85 riders competed on Saturday.

As the gate dropped practice leader Pumpurs took the holeshot to establish a very strong lead. Behind him Bruce also built on his practice pace to take second, battling with Spanish rider #252 Raul Sanchez behind. As the track got more challenging every rider put their head down over the 20-minute race. With Pumpurs sitting unchallenged in first place he took the victory nearly a minute clear, followed home by Sanchez, who battled past Bruce, in second and third respectively to complete the podium at the weekend’s most difficult and entertaining bLUcRU SuperFinale race.

For Pumpurs, Sanchez and Bruce, the bLUcRU Masterclass awaits on 18, 19 & 20 November in Spain, where they will be joined by two carefully selected YZ125 wildcards as they further develop their riding skills under expert tutorials and guidance. From the Masterclass, one of the five YZ125 riders will then win a place with the MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 team for the 2020 EMX125 Championship.

At the same time, a new chapter begins for every YZ bLUcRU rider at the SuperFinale as they have made the first steps towards careers in international racing.

As usual, the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations can be very unpredictable, and nothing can be confirmed until the final race is finished. This year was no exception. By race two, The Netherlands had a comfortable lead, but it was all to play for, for second and third position. In the beginning of the third and final race, Great Britain were second in the standings, but as Jordi Tixier and Gautier Paulin of team France started making their way through the field, this saw Britain drop from the podium, allowing last year’s defending champions, to move up. But nothing was final until the end of the race and with just a lap to go, disaster struck team France as their leading man, Gautier Paulin, was forced to retire from the race with a technical issue, allowing Great Britain back onto the podium, making in their third consecutive podium finish in the last three years.

Also receiving an award this weekend, was Austria’s René Hofer who was the recipient of the Ricky Carmichael MXoN youngest talent Award. Hofer had a good ride and despite the tough track conditions and the disadvantage of riding a 250cc bike, the Austrian finished 12-26 in the races. Next season, Hofer will be making the move to the Red Bull Factory KTM squad to compete in the MX2 World Championship.

Nations Classification: 1. Team Netherlands 18 points, 2. Team Belgium 47 points, 3. Team Great Britain 58 points, 4. Team Estonia 64 points, 5. Team France 68 points, 6. Team USA 68 points, 7. Team Germany 72 points, 8. Team Latvia 73 points, 9. Team Spain 73 points, 10. Team Denmark 77 points.

Jeffrey Herlings: "It was a tough race but Glenn was great again and also Calvin and to win this, never done it in my life. It's fantastic to win the first ever Monster Energy FIM MXoN"

Calvin Vlaanderen: "The pressure was on us and we controlled that well and we rode excellent, both Glenn and Jeffrey had great performances"

Glenn Coldenhoff: "Definitely, double gold with Team the Netherlands in front of our king and the crowd was amazing, I heard them every lap and this is something we will never forget.

Team Belgium on top of Saturday’s Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations Qualifying Races at Assen

ASSEN (The Netherlands) 28 September 2019 – The 73rd edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations saw the qualifying races today at the amazing facility at the Assen TT circuit.

Despite the rain thousands filled the grandstand area in support for their nation and their favourite riders. Throughout the races there was not a quiet moment on track, with the roar of the crowd erupting from every area of the circuit, in support for their team.

Team Belgium will start in pole for tomorrow’s races as their riders Kevin Strijbos, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Jago Geerts scored a total of 5 points between them. Second was The Netherlands team, with Jeffrey Herlings, Glenn Coldenhoff and Calvin Vlaanderen also scoring 5 points, with Team USA finishing in third with 7 points.

While it was Belgium who qualified best, the qualification race wins went to Team Switzerland’s Jeremy Seewer (MXGP), Team USA’s Justin Cooper (MX2) and  Team Latvia’s Pauls Jonass (Open).

Team Spain’s Jorge Prado who made his debut in MXGP Class led the MXGP qualifier from Team Switzerland’s Jeremy Seewer, Team Australia’s Dean Ferris, and Team Slovenia’s Tim Gajser. Some of the favourites for the MXGP class were struggling after poor starts, with Team France’s Gautier Paulin 17th, Team USA’s Jason Anderson 18th and Team Netherlands’ Jeffrey Herlings back in 27th place.

After a lap Prado held a one second lead over Seewer, with Ferris third. Then came Team Belgium’s Jeremy Van Horebeek, and Team Sweden’s Filip Bengtsson in fifth. Coming through the pack were also Gajser and Van Horebeek, with both riders making a pass on Ferris, dropping the Aussie to fifth position.

Anderson moved up to ninth place, while Herlings moved up to 14th. Prado then lost the lead after a slip off and was forced back to sixth allowing Seewer to make the move into first.

Prado and Anderson were all over Ferris for fourth place, and Team Italy’s Ivo Monticelli passed Bengtsson for seventh place. Meanwhile Herlings moved up to 12th. Both Prado and Anderson, eventually made a pass on Ferris.

Gajser started closing up on Seewer for the lead and Herlings was right onto the back wheel of Paulin and Monticelli. Herlings passed Paulin and Monticelli as he moved to 8thposition, sending the Dutch fans wild. Seewer continued his strong ride as he opened up his lead to more than two seconds on lap eight.

Bengtsson passed Ferris for sixth place and Herlings made sure to make the most of this opportunity, also passing the Aussie rider for 7th position.

Team GB’s Nathan Watson moved up to 11thplace in the race, having started the race from almost last. Herlings was then all over Anderson for fifth place as the Dutchman showed his skills in the sad, clocking one of fastest laps of the race.

Herlings again had a super quick lap time as the track started to really get rough. Seewer held a four second lead over Gajser, Van Horebeek, Prado, Anderson and Herlings in sixth. Herlings then blasted past Anderson for fifth, with Seewer eventually taking the win  of the MXGP heat from Gajser and Van Horebeek.

Jeremy Seewer: “It isn't an official MXGP race, but still amazing to win it. I got a good start from gate position 16, I saw Prado making mistakes and my riding was smooth. He made a mistake and I was able to get the pass and win, and now the pressure is off Team Switzerland.”
