GDANSK IS READY FOR ACTION AS EUROPE’S BEST RIDERS GATHER FOR THE 2019 MOTOCROSS OF EUROPEAN NATIONS

(GDANSK) Poland, 4thOctober 2019 – This weekend, October 5th and 6th, riders from all over Europe and even from the world, will gather in Gdansk, Poland for the 2019 edition of the Motocross of European Nations.

Located in the north of Poland, Gdansk has a rich history that dates back all the way to the 10th century and has a population of half a million. The city itself features many tourist attractions and sightseeing hotspot, topped off with the stunning beaches along the Baltic coast.

Making a return to the Gdansk circuit for the third consecutive year, riders from all over Europe and even the world, will gather to represent their nation in the hope of being crowned the 2019 Champions of the Motocross of European Nations.

This year sees a record number of entries in both the men’s and the women’s categories with a total of 21 nations competing in the MXoEN and 16 in the WMXoEN. And for the first time in the history of the MXoEN, there will be a women’s team joining us for the event all the way from the USA.

The Motocross of European Nations is composed of 3 classes, 250cc, 125cc and 85cc, and each team has four riders: one 250cc rider, one 125cc rider, and two 85cc riders. In the women’s category, each team has two riders. There will be four races on Sunday and the team that scores the least amount of points will be crowned as the winners.

Following last year’s clean sweep by Team Italy, who went on to win both categories, this year the team riders, Morgan Lesiardo, Andreas Roncoli, Valerio Lata, Matteo Luigi Russi and the women’s side, Francesca Nocera and Giorgia Montini will be hoping to do the same.

Morgan Lesiardo is a strong contender to take his team to victory having been crowned the 2017 EMX250 Champion, Lesiardo has had a strong season competing in the MX2 World Championship, scoring points at most GP’s as well as edging into the top 10, with a 9thplace finish in Imola, Italy.

Other riders to keep an eye out for is Team Denmark’s Mikkel Harrup and also Team Norway’s Kevin Horgmo. Horgmo helped his nation to a 12th overall at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Assen and having finished 2-3 in the races at the MXoEN last year, it is clear that he will be aiming for race wins this time around. Also, a rider that could make things interesting is Team Estonia’s Jorgen-Matthias Talviku. Talviku finished 4th in the EMX125 Championship Presented by FMF Racing this season and made a podium appearance in Valkenswaard where he finished 2nd overall. In 85cc class Team Italy’s Valerio Lata and Czech Republic’s Vitezslav Marek are lining up to repeat the perfect performances had in the Junior World Championship which took place in July 2019 in Pietramurata, Trentino as Lata won the Junior Motocross World Championship title in 85cc while Marek got both the 65cc Junior World Cup and the EMX65 titles.

In the women category, Team Netherland’s has a strong line-up, with the Women’s Motocross World Championship runner-up Nancy Van De Ven and Shana van der Vlist, who finished 2nd and 6th in the WMX class respectively, representing their country once again after finishing 3rd last year. Besides the title defenders from Team Italy, Team Germany lines up with a strong Squad as Larissa Papenmeier and Anne Borchers are keen on winning the WMXoEN title. Larissa Papenmeier finished third in the WMX Championship standings and attempted also the JUST1 MXGP of China in MX2 class scoring 11 points. And of course, Kylie Fasnacht and Jamie Astudillo of Team USA could be strong contenders for the title as they make a historic first-time appearance at the Motocross of European Nations.

To kick off this weekend’s event, teams, riders, family and friends all gathered in Gdansk city centre for the opening ceremony for the 2019 MXoEN. The evening began with dance entertainment from the local cheerleading group, followed by a welcome by the officials, FIM President Jorge Viegas, Youthstream Representative Patricia Maskarova, FIM Europe Motocross Commission Eddie Herd, the President of the Gdanski Auto Motoklub Marian Zupa and the President of the Polish Automobile and Motorcycle Federation Michal Sikora. Then each team was introduced to the excited crowd as they took to the stage for the family photo.

Monster Energy and Kawasaki Racing Team renew their partnership

Long time partners in the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship, Monster Energy and the Kawasaki Racing Team renew their partnership and will continue their successful association.

Joining the Kawasaki Racing Team in 2014 as title sponsor of the factory squad, Monster Energy has always been the main partner of the team and even is this 2019 season was not the best due to the riders' injuries the American company renewed his contract for the future. Both Romain Febvre and Clément Desalle are long time Monster athletes, and they achieved great results during the past seasons with fifteen Grand Prix wins and thirty heat wins. They will be teammates for the first time in their career next season, joining their experience and efforts to offer the best results to the team in the premier class.

Mitch Covington (Monster Energy vice president of sport marketing): "We're excited to go again with our long-term partner KRT. It's been a difficult year with injuries, but it happens. Unfortunately it's part of the sport when you have riders who are passionate about the sport and really do what it takes to win so sometimes you're going to have injuries; we've been in the sport a long time and we understand that. We hope for an injury-free season next year. We're really excited for Romain to stay in the Monster family; moving over from one Monster team to another should be a really smooth transition. Romain has been a champion for our brand for a long time now and we're wishing him the best in his new team. It's a very strong team with Romain and Clement. We have two of the most-experienced riders in the series; they are both very fast and we have high expectations from both."

Thierry Chizat Suzzoni (KRT team Owner): “Since 2014 we’re working in collaboration with Monster Energy and we are very pleased to continue with such a renowned partner who has a very strong image in motorsports. It’s a very long time partner who follow us with great loyalty even in difficult period such as like we had this season. We are currently working to prepare next season with both Clément and Romain who are Monster athletes since many years; every day we work to be ready for 2020, and we expect a great season.”

F&H Kawasaki signs Mikkel Haarup

Team F&H Kawasaki will line up an ambitious young trio next year in the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship as Mikkel Haarup joins Roan van de Moosdijk and Mathys Boisrame in the Dutch team.

The young Dane made an impressive entry onto the world stage in 2017 when he scored three maximum-score victories in the 125 class on his way to runner-up in the European EMX125 series and culminated the season with second place in the Junior World Championship. He made several GP appearances earlier this year and confirmed his speed when he returned to racing at the final two rounds of the European EMX250 Championships, scoring podium results, including a race win, at each event.

Mikkel, just eighteen years old, will contest the MX2 World Championship alongside nineteen-year-old Roan van de Moosdijk from the Netherlands and twenty-one-year-old Mathys Boisrame from France. The multi-national squad will be one of the youngest team line-ups in the World Championship; the F&H Kawasaki team will focus exclusively on the MX2 class next season after their successful 2019 campaign. All three riders will be trained by Marc de Reuver and they will also contest the Dutch Masters in which they will defend the MX2 title which the F&H team secured this year with Henry Jacobi.

Mikkel Haarup: "I believe joining F&H is going to be a really good move for me; it's a step forward after four years with my previous team. I feel Kawasaki is very supportive and they will do a good job to help me develop in the future. The team has already done really well the past few years and they work really hard to be even better. Their goal is just like mine ... to win the championship; it's nice to have a team whose main focus is the same. It will be very good for both of us, developing our relationship and achieving results together. Of course it's a step higher to race the MX2 GPs and the intensity is even higher, but I think everyone can see by the results Roan put in at the end of the season that the speed in the European is also really quick. I already rode a few GPs this year so I think I'm well-prepared to be ready for next year. It's going to be interested to work with Marc de Reuver; he's clearly a good trainer and I'm looking forward to working with him. It's going to be interesting for sure and you see that every rider he has worked with has progressed."

Nathalie Fase (F&H team manager): “As a team we look back on a fantastic 2019 season with many highlights - GP podiums, Dutch and European titles - and have achieved our goals with each of our riders. We ended the season on a further high last weekend, recording our first MXoN podium at Assen with Adam Sterry. We are happy to announce that F&H and Mikkel Haarup will enter into a partnership in the upcoming years and hope to enjoy a good winter together to be ready to start a fantastic new season in the MX2 class, competing together with Roan, Mathys and Mikkel for a lot of podiums!”

2019 Champions sealed the deal with a Ring!

It is an annual MXGP tradition to present the winners of the FIM Motocross World Champions and the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations champions with a winning ring to celebrate and seal their championship.

MXGP Motocross World Champion, Tim Gajser and the MX2 World Champion, Jorge Prado received their rings at the MXGP Awards on Saturday night, while the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations winners, Team Netherlands' Jeffrey Herlings, Glenn Coldenhoff and Calvin Vlaanderen, were presented with theirs by Youthstream CEO David Luongo at the winners' press conference in Assen.

These unique silver jewels are custom made to symbolise victory, each engraved with the year, and for the MXGP and MX2 Champions, their names are also inscribed on the ring.

The rings are designed and produced by the Italian company PR Model which is headed by Mr. Telemaco Cane, a huge fan of motocross himself.

It was the perfect way to seal the championships and to mark the end of the 73rd edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.
