Herlings and Prado Triumph at Trentino

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino, Italy) 08 April 2018 - The 2018 MXGP of Trentino has concluded at the spectacular Pietramurata circuit! Over 30,000 enthusiastic Italian motocross fans witnessed the best riders of the world championship fighting for the top step of the Trentino podium. Taking emphatic victories were the pair of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders, Jeffrey Herlings and Jorge Prado.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has struggled off the start of nearly every race this season up until this weekend. A top priority of Herlings and his team was to improve his starting and it clearly worked when he took his first Fox Holeshot of the season, the second of his MXGP career in MXGP Race 1.

Behind Herlings on the start was Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, and home GP star and Herlings main championship rival, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli.

By the end of lap one Desalle made his way forward past Febvre into 2nd but Cairoli dropped from 4th to 8th which he later stated was due to an issue with his front brake. Once back to normal Cairoli started to charge back to the front passing riders such as his teammate Glenn Coldenhoff and later Gajser among others.

While Cairoli tried to regain positions Desalle kept Herlings in sight the majority of race leaving Febvre in a race of his own. At the finish Herlings won by a little more than 5 seconds over Desalle who had Febvre another 7 seconds behind him. Cairoli took rebounded to finish the race right where he started, in 4th.

In race 2 Cairoli took his 6th FOX Holeshot of the 8 races this season but Herlings was right in tow along with Glenn Coldenhoff making it a perfect start for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team. Another good start was taken by Clement Desalle who led the newly signed Marchetti Racing Team KTM of Benoit Paturel and the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory of Jeremy Van Horebeek. For the first three laps Herlings chased Cairoli but on the uphill just after the finish Cairoli missed his breaking point and expected Herlings to go wide who instead dove to the instead and took the lead.

Following the pass Cairoli briefly lost touch with Herlings before reeling the #84 back in. Herlings consistently put in one fast lap after another to which Cairoli was unable to match. In the meantime Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin spent 17 laps looking for a way around Van Horebeek in 5th and with only 2 laps remain took the spot from the Belgian.

Herlings finished the race 20 seconds ahead of Cairoli to take the overall and reclaim the red plate, winning every race the weekend, and claiming his 70 GP Overall win. Herlings in the press conference said: “I really enjoyed my time here for sure all the fans were rooting for Tony but that is normal, he is Italian, he is a legend in this sport but still they cheered for me which was very respectful. I really like coming here, it was a great 2 days, I enjoyed it a lot and I am looking forward to Portugal in one week time.”

Desalle’s 2-3 finishes topped the 4-2 result of Cairoli for second and third overall respectively. Desalle in the press conference: “It was a good weekend, really consistent and I knew coming here that the start would be important. Overall it is a really positive and consistent result again everything is going good and heading in the right way.”

Antonio Cairoli who finished the MXGP of Trentino in third: “For the championship it is good to finish on the podium always but I know that we could have done better today. Jeffrey was very fast in the second race and I have to say that it was very difficult to beat him with his speed and consistency during the whole race. It was difficult but this is racing and next time we will try to be more consistent.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has been unstoppable so far this year and while the first 6 successful races of the season were thanks to wins Pauls Jonass, his younger teammate Jorge Prado has been on the brink of taking a GP himself.

Today the #61 took both of the MX2 FOX Holeshots and in race 1 led every lap on his way to a dominant win. Prado closest competition in race 1 came from STC Racing Husqvarna’s Henry Jacobi.

Jacobi battled to hold off Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen. For the first 11 laps Jacobi was successful but Olsen finally found a way by the #29. Jonass was then the next rider to catch Jacobi but instead of being passed Jacobi dug deep and instead passed Olsen 3 laps before the finish.

Prado crossed the line 7.6 seconds ahead of Jacobi with Olsen, Jonass, and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington rounding out the top 5.

Race 2 was again led by Prado from the start but Covington followed closely. Team HRC’s Calvin Vlaanderen redeemed himself after crashing out of race 1 on the start by running in third to start race 2.

Jacobi also started well and by the second lap was around Vlaanderen and into 3rd. Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Vsevolod Brylyakov had a break through performance in race 2 after starting in the top five and passing both Vlaanderen and Jacobi to take over third.

Vlaanderen returned the favor of being passed to Jacobi on lap 11. On the following lap Jonass and Jacobi came together sending both riders down. Both riders however were able to get up and finish the race.

At the front Covington pressured Prado one lap after another which was to no avail until the 19th and final lap where Covington took the lead and race win in a dramatic ending. Regardless of the 2nd in race 2 Prado took his second MXGP of Trentino overall victory in 2 years over Covington and Jacobi who took his first ever MX2 podium finish.

Martin Racing’s Michele Cervellin returned to the MX2 class at home this weekend after missing rounds 2 and 3 with a knee injury. Cervellin lives less than an hour from the Pietramurata circuit and made his hometown fans proud taking 7th overall after his 6th and 11th race finishes.

Jorge Prado commented: 'It is good for me getting up closer to the leader in the points so it was almost a perfect weekend. Jonass is pretty strong and it wasn’t his best weekend but it is a long championship and there is still 16 races left this season'

Thomas Covington in the Press Conference: “First race was pretty decent for me. I have been struggling so far this season and that was a good ride for me. The second race I got a better start behind Prado and I really just tried to stick with him because he was riding a really good pace. I pretty much just went for it on the last few laps, a couple of times I thought I had him but finally made a pass stick on the last lap. It was an incredible race for me and one that I will always remember.”

Herny Jacobi shared his thoughts on his first Podium: I hope I can stick to this performance and continue to ride like that, I know I’m fast, I just need to finish it. In Valkenswaard I crashed and at Redsand also but I think if I find some consistency I can get some more top fives or podiums.

Pauls Jonass, keeping his red plate said: “I would say that the speed was there all weekend, like in free practice, warm up, time practice, everything went good but just didn’t get the best of starts. In a nutshell, the starts were not there, I made a couple of mistakes and crashed which summed up to going 4-9 in the races for 5th overall. Not the way we wanted the GP to go but we are going to keep working.”

Italy’s Scuteri takes Trentino Win

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino, Italy) 08 April 2018 - Round 2 of the EMX125 championship presented by FMF Racing has been recorded today at Trentino, Italy circuit of Pietramurata. With thousands of Italian motocross fans lining the track fences and 97 entries into the class for the weekend Italy’s own Emilie Scuteri was able to put together a winning performance.

In Saturday’s race one we saw a textbook performance from KTM DIGA Junior Racing’s Emil Weckman who took the lead off of the start and stayed in front each of the 15 laps. Behind Weckman a battle kicked off between Emilio Scuteri and Mieco Vettik.

Scuteri had second position to his name the first lap but the following 6 laps Vettik led the Italian. At the half way point however Scuteri reclaimed the position and pushed toward the lead of Weckman. At the finish Weckman won by just less than 4 seconds over Scuteri who in turn pulled a 5 second gap on Vettik.

Meanwhile last round’s double race and overall winner KTM Junior Racing’s Rene Hofer rode an impressive comeback performance for 17th on lap 1 through the pack to finish 4th less than 3 tenths of a second behind Vettik.

Today’s race 2 was the first event on the freshly watered and prepped track leaving the riders with far different conditions from yesterday. At the start Emilio Scuteri took the holeshot over Team VRT’s Lion Guyon while race 1 winner, Weckman, completed lap 1 in 5th.

Scuteri managed to lead the entirety of race 2 from start to finish as Rene Hofer put himself in the difficult position of having to come through the field after starting outside the top ten for the second time in 2 days.

As Hofer worked his way forward so too did Weckman all at the expense of Guyon and Raf Meuwissen. At the finish Scuteri took the race and overall win from Weckman when they tied in points but the stronger race 2 from Scuteri decide it. Following the pair of race winners with 3rd and 4th respectively in both race 2 and the overall standings were Hofer and Guyon. In terms of the championship standings Hofer remains the red plate holder with 88 points over Weckman’s 82 and Scuteri’s 72.

Herlings and Prado Dominate Trentino Qualifying

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino, Italy) 7 April 2018 - The MXGP of Trentino is well underway in the North of Italy. Today’s qualifying races were dominated by the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders of Jeffrey Herlings and Jorge Prado. Both rocketed to strong starts in front of the Dolomite Mountains and thousand of Italian motocross fans. With perfect weather expected against a stunning backdrop tomorrow while be even more entertaining.

The MXGP and MX2 riders weren’t the only ones racing today as the support classes of WMX and EMX125 presented by FMF Racing also took on the Pietramurata circuit. WMX Race 1 was the first points paying race of the weekend and Germany’s Larissa Papenmeier took full advantage as she passed Nancy van de Ven early in the race and held off the charges of defending champion MXFONTARACING Yamaha’s Kiara Fontanesi during the later stages. Both van de Ven and KTM Silver Action’s Amandine Verstappen where able to capitalize on a last lap crash from Fontanesi respectively finishing 2nd and 3rd behind Papenmeier and just in front of Fontanesi.

In the first race of EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Emil Weckman took the lead off the start and stayed in front each of the 15 laps as Emilio Scuteri and Mieco Vettik swapped between second and third with Scuteri taking the better result of the pair. Meanwhile last round’s double race and overall winner Rene Hofer rode the pack to finish 4th.

The MXGP Qualifying Race started with the early 2018 MXGP season Red Bull KTM Factory Racing superstars of Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings at the front. Herlings with a rare good start took full advantage passing Cairoli in the third turn.

Meanwhile Team HRC’s Tim Gajser was caught in a first turn crash and had to fight his way back from dead last all the way up to 17th.

Behind Herlings and Cairoli was Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin, and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff.

Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki’s Maxime Desprey had a great qualifying performance riding in 7th the first 4 laps before being passed by Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre.

Back at the front Herlings grew his lead up until the finish where he crossed the line 22 seconds ahead of Cairoli. Apart from the pass of Febvre on Desprey the top eleven riders stayed in the same position all of the 13 laps.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings in the press conference said: “So far everything is positve, it was a good Saturday, which doesn’t always mean a good Sunday but it definitely feels good to start off the weekend in this way.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli: “It is always nice to be here in Italy and race in front of the home fans and media. Today went good and I know that it is only Saturday so if we managed to have a good start also tomorrow we will fight for the win, that is always the goal. I really like the track and atmosphere here so we will do our best to be on top and have a good weekend overall.”

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser: “I’m feeling good actually but today didn’t go the best, in the qualification race I crashed in the first corner so I started dead last and came back to 17th but it isn’t that bad because on this track you can start from everywhere quite good. Hopefully tomorrow I can get good starts, ride smarter, and be consistent because that is the most important.”

MXGP Qualifying Race Top Ten: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 23:43.859; 2. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), +0:22.777; 3. Clement Desalle (BEL, Kawasaki), +0:29.756; 4. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:32.465; 5. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, KTM), +0:38.808; 6. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +0:40.873; 7. Romain Febvre (FRA, Yamaha), +0:47.887; 8. MX2 Qualifying couldn’t have gone better for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado, the young Spaniard took the lead from the start and never looked back. Prado first MX2 career overall win came on this very circuit last year.

The #61 looked extremely comfortable today as he pulled away from Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen. Prado led Olsen by just over 12 seconds up until the final lap where he backed of the pace to claim his first pole position of 2018.

The first few laps of the race Hitachi KTM UK’s Conrad Mewse maintained third position ahead of STC Racing Husqvarna’s Henry Jacobi and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington.

On lap 4 Covington took over 4th by passing Jacobi along with Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Ben Watson. 3 laps after Covington’s and Watson’s passes on Jacobi it was Mewse who came under pressure from the American and fellow Brit. Covington took 3rd from Mewse quickly but for Watson the resistance was stronger.

After searching for a way past Mewse for three laps Watson made a pass stick and at the finish it was Prado, Olsen, Covington, Watson, and Mewse taking the first five gate picks for tomorrow’s pair of races.

BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei did not start the qualifying race while Honda 114 Motorsport’s Hunter Lawrence started but only completed 5 laps. Both riders official status for Sunday is unknown.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado in the press conference stated: “I got my first GP win here so I have really good memories and today I felt great, I had good start and took the win so I’m really happy with the today.”

Youthstream is one of our longest licenses and MXGP is one of Milestone’s flagship franchises, a key title in our portfolio which has achieved solid results during the years, reaching and consolidating a big fanbase. As you have already seen from the trailer, this year the MXGP videogame will make you live the motocross experience like a professional rider: the most important news of this new chapter is the Pro game mode on top of other ones, which will enable all players to feel like a real Motocross athlete, controlling their bike set-up like a real mechanic and behaving like a real MXGP rider on track.”

To make the game experience even more unique, Milestone closed an exclusive partnership with Tim Gajser, Tony Cairoli, Gautier Paulin; and thanks to their suggestions, the developers succeed in reaching a surprising level of realism. Tim Gajser explained how to have fun whipping, scrubbing, and passing through whoops sections, while Tony Cairoli gave his feedback on Start & Braking Precision, including how to take advantage of the Starting Grid and brake precisely. Finally, Gautier Paulin advised on controlling the ruts and taking corners at top speed.

Next to speak at the presentation was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli who said: “I think it is really important what they are doing because first of all it is really good for motocross, making such a good looking game. Every new edition is getting better and better and you can do a lot of work on the bike and actually feel it on the track.”

Following Cairoli was Team HRC’s Tim Gajser: “It is great to collaborate with them and give some advice on how to make the game even more realistic. I was able to try the game yesterday and did one race here in Trentino. I was really surprised, I think they are doing a great job and with our advice it is making the game even better.”

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin concluded: “It is good to have motocross in a videogame, to have it be so real with the ability to set up the bike and ride on real tracks, professional tracks, MXGP World Championship tracks, and this is really important for our fans and just motocross in general.”

Directly after the announcement both the riders and the media took the chance to try out a sample of MXGP Pro.

MXGP PRO is a brand-new start, designed to meet the need of the most demanding fans to relive the real spirit of Motocross. Based on the community feedback, the title has been redefined following what Milestone’s developers call the “mechanical” approach: players will be able to setup each single parameter of their bike based on real values and metrics.

All the knowledge of the past titles in the MXGP franchise come to life in this new, redefined videogame which enhances the experience of the racing by refining the entire approach and the gameplay. This is what PRO is set to be, a videogame with a completely new soul:

  • A new Bike Set-Up system, which will enable players to arrange and build up each single parameter of their bike based on real values and metrics;
  • A real physics approach, to let the player race with spectacular movements without any limitations and with a reworked system of grips, collisions, and in air behaviors;
  • Extremely realistic rider movements, integrated with the bike and affected by the impact of the bike on different terrains.

Luca Simonotti, Lead Designer at Milestone, commented: “This year we have been able to completely redefine the physics and the entire gameplay experience of MXGP. We started from the analysis of suspension, we compared the pressure with fork extensions as well as single shock-absorbers using the same values of official MXGP athletes’ bikes; the same process has been done with the ECU mapping. Moreover, thanks to the exclusive partnership with official MXGP riders Tim Gajser, Tony Cairoli, and Gautier Paulin we have been able to receive qualitative feedbacks on areas of improvements towards the whole development process. It has been a unique experience for us to be on track with them and we are proud of the results achieved.”

Each professional player, after securing the most powerful bike aligned with his riding style, needs to train in the mud to be ready to face any circuits in any weather conditions. This is the reason why the Compound in MXGP PRO becomes a much larger practice area, a free space to train and develop driving skills on any kind of terrain, from the flattest to the roughest ones.

MXGP PRO, which is developed by Milestone S.r.l., one of the leading  and longest established racing game developer in the world, will be released on June 29th 2018 on PlayStation®4, Xbox One and on Windows PC®/STEAM.

MXGP of Turkey Delegates Make Trentino Trip

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino, Italy) 06 April 2018 - Earlier this evening at the Pietramurata circuit a special event was held by Youthstream and delegates from the Organization of the MXGP of Turkey. Invited were various members of the MXGP community, from international media to teams, sponsors and more.

The aperitif and meet and greet was held in the MXGP VIP Skybox restaurant where Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo, Youthstream Vice President David Luongo, FIM Europe President Dr. Wolfgang Srb, TMF Vice President Mahmut Akulke, TMF Vice President Ogun Bay San and Afyonkarahisar Municipality Representative Huseyin Ozturk among 24 Turkish delegates along invited the MXGP paddock and industry figures to join them in Afyon this 1st and 2nd of September for MXGP’s return to Turkey.

Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo: “This is a little preview of the MXGP of Turkey, we already had another preview when they made a presentation in Istanbul, which was outstanding and very unique. I am very satisfied about how they work, from what we have seen they will clearly be a candidate for the best organizer and all of you will be impressed with what you will see there. The track will be outstanding but the infrastructure, activity around, and the involvement of all the authorities and celebrities it will be something incredible. This is very important for our sport as Turkey is a very big country and their motorcycle market is growing, so as always, it is important to follow the market and go where it is growing. Turkey is one of the best places in the world to be so we will be very proud to be there and everyone in the MXGP world will also be proud”

FIM Europe President Dr. Wolfgang Srb: “I have been in motocross for quite some years but coming early in January this year to Istanbul and seeing the presentation of the Turkish MXGP in Afyon we were really very surprised at how big the presentation was and you could feel the support of the government. The presentation was the best I have ever seen in all my years in this sport and as I said before it has been quite some years. I hope that all of you will be there, it will be outstanding! “

TMF Vice President Mahmut Akulke: “We are very happy to host MXGP once again in 2018 as the Federation of Motorcycle Turkey. This is such a great area and such a great organization, but we are a candidate this year to carry out one of the best organizations in Turkey, Afyon. We have many surprises for both the sportspeople and the spectators this year, we are so happy to see you all here and to be a part of this organization. Hopefully we are expecting all of the MXGP family in Afyon, Turkey this year.”
