Young Frenchman stands in for Petrov in Argentina

During his career Petar Petrov has never been one to give up and at the opening GP in Qatar it was not the first time that he had tried to race with an injury, but after a crash during the practice sessions in Losail he and the team decided the Bulgarian should rest and treat his painful ankle.

Back in France for medical examinations with famous professor Olivier Dufour, who is also a great fan of motocross, Petrov was delighted when Olivier confirmed that his ligaments were not broken. “Nothing was broken, but the ligaments were affected in the crash and they asked me to rest for five weeks. But I can continue to train physically as I want to be fit when I will be back on the bike two weeks from now,” said Petar who expects to start practising in ten to fifteen days.

As all the material has already been sent from Indonesia to Argentina, the team searched for another rider for this race and selected a young French talent who never previously had the chance to race at international level. Twenty-two year old Yannick Fabre, born in Marseille Consolat (one of the most famous district of the city where soccer is the national sport) clinched several regional titles and recently even beat several GP riders such as Cedric Soubeyras and Damon Graulus during an international race at La Fare les Olivier.

“We went to this race and he impressed us a lot,” said team owner Jean Jacques Luisetti. “We knew his name and his talent, but we never saw him racing before this event and he was so determined on the bike that we approached him and immediately decided to give him a chance as we want to have three riders in all the GPs. He never had the financial means to race outside our district, but this kid won five regional championships,” he continued. “We have a bike available for the MXGP of Argentina, so he will do some testing with the team and the Showa technicians this week before leaving for the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina. He has no pressure; we just give him a chance as we want Petar to be fully fit before he returns to racing. The plan is to have Petar Petrov back on the bike at end of next week, and then we will decide if he can race or not in Mexico two weeks later.”

For Yannick Fabre, it’s an amazing opportunity that the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing MX2 Team have offered him, and a dream came true.
“I can’t believe it. It’s the chance of my life and I want to enjoy every moment and for sure give my best. I know that it will be my hardest fight ever, but I’m a warrior and I will fight! I’m proud and thankful to the team, and I’m totally focused on this fantastic experience,” said the young Frenchman who will line up alongside Adam Sterry and Stephen Rubini in Villa la Angostura.

Simpson and Seewer shine in Indonesia

PANGKAL PINANG (Indonesia), 5 March 2017 - Due to the extreme weather conditions at the MXGP of Indonesia the Event Management came to a decision to end the MX2 race 2 prematurely and cancel the MXGP race 2.

For the overall of MX2 - counting both Race 1 and Race 2 results - Suzuki World MX2 Team’s Jeremy Seewer came out victorious followed by TM Racing’s Samuele Bernardini and LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber. In MXGP race 1 results were used for overall classification, this secured the win for Wilvo Yamaha MXGP’s Shaun Simpson, second for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff, while Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle rounded out the podium.

MXGP racing was demanding in Indonesia but Wilvo Yamaha MXGP’s Shaun Simpson handled it better than anyone and supplied an impressive win. He said, “It was good, I was able to make some good moves the first few laps and I was in the lead about halfway through the race!”

Simpson finished just over 7 seconds ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff. The Dutch rider rode a consistent race and maintained his speed lap after lap for his first podium of the year.

In third was Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle, who looked aggressive for the full race and in the end he was closing in finishing less than 5 seconds behind Coldenhoff.

Last week’s winner and red plate holder, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, didn’t see the results of before but he managed to finish 4th overall and will continue to hold the red plate.

Finishing strong in the final spot of the top five was Husqvarna 8Biano Racing’s Rui Gonçalves.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre had a blistering start and came away with the Fox Holeshot, though later in the race he had issues and would place 15th overall.  Expect the former champ to show up at the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina determined to win along with the reigning champion and the last winner of the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who finished a respectable 6th place in Indonesia.

The MXGP of Indonesia marks the first GP win for the Swiss rider. Jeremy stated: “I’m really happy for my first GP win and I am really looking forward to the next rounds!”

It was indeed a testing day for the riders of MX2 and the 3rd highest result for the second week in a row came from LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber, his performance gives him the MX2 points lead heading into the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina.
