OPENING PRESS CONFERENCE KICKS OFF MXGP OF FINLAND AT CITY HALL IN KOUVOLA

Kouvola (FINLAND) 11th July 2025 – The official opening press conference of the 2025 MXGP of Finland took place today in a symbolic setting, right in front of Kouvola’s central city hall. Media representatives, dignitaries, and key stakeholders gathered to welcome the return of the FIM Motocross World Championship to Finland, as well as to introduce the brand-new venue of KymiRing, marking a new chapter for Finnish motocross.

The event was introduced by the Marketing Manager of Kouvola Charissa McCarron, before welcoming a prestigious panel featuring David Luongo, Infront Moto Racing CEO; FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela, KymiRing Managing Director Ory Kornel, Antti Pyrhönen, Kawasaki Racing Team Manager; and several of the world’s top riders including, red plate Romain Febvre from Kawasaki Racing Team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Andrea Adamo, Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf and Liam Everts, and local Finnish hopefuls Miro Varjonen and Nico Stenberg.

David Luongo expressed his enthusiasm for MXGP’s return to Finland: “It’s very important for us to be back in this beautiful country. Finland has a rich motocross history with legendary riders and iconic tracks. The KymiRing is a great mix of road racing infrastructure and a proper motocross layout. Despite the short preparation time, the organisers have done an excellent job, and I also want say a big thank to the FIM for their many years of supporting this Championship. I wish a fantastic weekend to all the riders.”

Antonio Alia Portela echoed the sentiment, highlighting the venue’s potential: “What a pleasure it is to come to the KymiRing. This is great to be back in Finland too. This place has everything and all the potential to become a permanent fixture in the MXGP calendar. The organizer has made a great effort and we’re excited about its future development.”

The significance of hosting the MXGP at KymiRing was underlined by Ory Kornel, who called it the venue’s “biggest milestone since its new beginning, to start our international motorsport journey with such a prestigious series is an honour. We’re excited for what this weekend will bring, and for the long-term opportunities.”

For Antti Pyrhönen, it was a special homecoming: “It’s a proud moment for me and for our team to compete here in Finland, especially with the red plate. We’re grateful to Infront Moto Racing and FIM for making it happen. Leading the championship and being back in Finland is a great moment. I also want to wish all the Finnish riders the best for this weekend”

As for the riders, they were enthusiastic after their first taste of the new circuit:

Romain Febvre: “It’s good to be back in Finland. The track is wide and natural, with a nice flow, looking very natural. I’m looking forward to some great battles this weekend.”

Andrea Adamo, winner of the last MXGP in Finland in 2023, shared: “The track is different, with elevation and wide corners. It’s fast and fun, definitely a good setting for racing. Hopefully I can reiterate my results from 2023”

Kay de Wolf praised the facilities and atmosphere: “It’s great to have a proper paddock with asphalt and good infrastructure. I’m excited to race here and hope for dry conditions!”

Liam Everts was also eager to return to Finland: “It’s always a pleasure to come here. The sand-based track looks solid and should shape up well for some good racing.”

After the press conference, the riders happily joined a brief meet and greet, connecting with the Finnish fans on-site, signing autographs and posing for photos in a great atmosphere.

With a new venue, and strong local engagement, the MXGP of Finland is set to deliver an exciting weekend of world-class motocross action, with strong local support and the world’s best riders on site, KymiRing is in for a full racing weekend. Whether it is in MXGP, MX2, EMX250 or EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing, the series are all kicking into full gear and the fight for the titles is intensifying.

WORLDWIDE TV COVERAGE – TUNE IN TO THE MXGP OF FINLAND!

Iitti-KymiRing (FINLAND) 11th July 2025 – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championships will make their return from the brief summer break to travel to the northern-most point of this year’s calendar, at a brand-new venue for the MXGP of Finland, presenting a full-on Nordic sandy challenge to the MXGP elite!

MXGP World Championship leader Romain Febvre emerged victorious from the last GP held in this country, back in 2023, and he is in strong form after his win at the most recent round in the UK, but hungry class newcomer Lucas Coenen is strong in the sand and seriously hunting for a win to break his five-GP streak of second place finishes!  Sand lover Glenn Coldenhoff is third in the series and eager to take the first ever GP win for the Fantic brand to cement his claim for a medal!

The MX2 class has seen many shifts of momentum in 2025, and although leader Simon Längenfelder holds a strong advantage after a perfect weekend in England, chaser Andrea Adamo won in Finland in 2023, and reigning Champ Kay de Wolf is very much at home in the soft stuff as he tries to re-ignite his title defence! This could result in a major showdown in the north!

Long-time MXGP partner MTV Finland will broadcast the entire weekend’s action from the KymiRing, with both Saturday’s Qualifying Races and the four Grand Prix races on Sunday going out LIVE to their domestic audience!

Below you can find the full list of TV channels that will air LIVE and delayed action of the MXGP of Finland, as well as the 26-minute Behind The Gate magazine show featuring the best moments from the races, exclusive interviews and more.  All of this footage will be available on MXGP-TV.com and via our TV magazine partners following the Grand Prix.

SHAUN SIMPSON – TEAM LEADER

Gabriel SS24 team manager Shaun Simpson has been doing a brilliant job leading the way with his young riders, Gyan Doensen and Oriol Oliver all having big moments throughout the season.

The team has shown amazing results and the last round at Matterley Basin was a shining light, with Oliver finishing in fifth place in the MX2 class. Oliver went 4-10 and is really continuing his progress through the MX2 ranks.

"What a weekend for the British Grand Prix,” Simpson said. “I even felt a little bit bad complaining about the dust after all the wet races we have had this season. Oriol showed his true class again this weekend and proved again that he is one of the riders in the top 10 that can fight for podiums. Leading laps in moto one and always being focused and committed to his racing, we are making big steps in the right direction. Gyan didn’t look himself again this weekend. He looked stiff and tight but battled hard in both motos with some good laps, but the results were not what we expected. We have a couple of weeks now to regroup with the riders, take some rest, work on the weak points and come back fresh for the second half of the season. Thanks to the sponsors, fans and our crew for making the British GP one to remember.”

In the previous round in Latvia, a lot of the cheers were for young Dutchman Doensen, who claimed a podium finish with two solid moto results. Second place overall and 3-3 scores kept Doensen in the picture for a top three finish in the EMX250 championship, where he is currently placed fourth on 215 points and just 17 points off third placed man Francisco Garcia.

"Great weekend of Lativa, very good to see Gyan keep the consistency with two top three results, two holeshots and another second overall on the podium. I think Gyan can trust himself now that he can get holeshots and that he has the speed to fight for podiums all weekend. I think he needs to work a little bit on his mindset when he is leading the race, he's not led a race for a while so I think he tightened up a little bit there but that will come. Looking very positive for the last EMX rounds of this season now that we feel we have figured a few things out.”

In the MX2 class at Latvia, Oliver finished 11th overall and kept his top ten hopes alive in the championship as he floats around the top ten mark with Triumph factory rider Guillem Farres and HRC man, Ferruccio Zanchi.

“Oriol is riding fantastic, really good speed and fitness, we just need to work on his starts. I think if we can clean his starts up and get him away in a good position in the first few laps then we definitely can fight for podiums towards the end of the season. All exciting stuff, managed to dodge the rain in Latvia during Saturday and Sunday, track was in decent Shape. Quite hard to pass but both riders done really well and I'm happy with how the whole team worked together, working on some details for the riders and just trying to improve things every week.”

Now, as the team takes the break between Matterley Basin and the next round in Finland, you just know that the dream of being amongst the factory teams is happening and these young riders have a great leader in multiple Grand Prix winner, Simpson.

ALL ROADS HEAD NORTH TO THE KYMIRING FOR THE MXGP OF FINLAND!

IITI-KYMIRING (Finland) 8th July 2025 – The 2025 FIM Motocross World Championships head to the most northern location of the series this weekend, as we return to the passionate motorsport nation of Finland for the first time since 2023, and welcome a new venue to MXGP in the shape of the Iitti-KymiRing facility.  The circuit, which is the tenth one to host World Championship Motocross in Finland, is part of an impressive motorsports complex which was completed in 2019, but came into new ownership in 2024, with the aim of bringing world class events such as MXGP to the southern region of the Scandinavian country.

Located roughly 140km north-east of the capital Helsinki, the venue has already hosted Rallycross events in June, and intends to run several top class motorsports events throughout this first full calendar year of operation, but the MXGP of Finland is the first World Championship level event to be held at the complex, with a purpose-built Motocross track incorporating the area’s natural sandy terrain sure to be a new challenge to the MXGP elite.

Finland has a rich history of Grand Prix Motocross, with 78 World Championship events held across nine different circuits since the first one back in 1962, which was won by Finnish legend Aarno Erola on a Swedish Husqvarna.  Belgian riders Harry Everts and Eric Geboers have won the most GPs of any one rider in this country, with four wins apiece. Finland hosted two Motocross of Nations events at the Ruskeasanta venue in 1979 and 1984, won by Belgium and the USA respectively.

Our last visit to Finland came in 2023, at the Vantaa venue near Helsinki Airport, and saw wins for Romain Febvre in MXGP and Andrea Adamo in MX2.  Febvre’s win for Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP was particularly sweet as his Team Manager Antti Pyrhonen had won at that venue in 2009, and he is still the most recent Finnish winner of a GP overall.

The 2025 MXGP series is still being led by that winner of the 2023 Finnish round, after Febvre took his fourth GP win of the season last time out at Matterley Basin.  The Frenchman now holds a 32-point lead over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot Lucas Coenen, who has finished second overall at each of the last five GPs, and is desperate to go one better in Finland! Glenn Coldenhoff consolidated his third position in the series at Matterley Basin with his first race win for Fantic Factory Racing MXGP, and he also tasted podium champagne the last time we were in Finland!

In MX2, Coenen’s Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Simon Längenfelder is in the strongest position of his career, after extending his points lead to 52, ahead of 2023 World Champion Andrea Adamo, who at least comes to Finland as the most recent winner in this country!  Adamo has an 18-point cushion over reigning World Champion Kay de Wolf, who should enjoy his first GP in Finnish sand for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing. Former Finnish 125cc Champion and EMX podium finisher Kasimir Hindersson will make his Grand Prix debut in MX2 at his home event this weekend!

The EMX250 European Championship reaches round ten at the KymiRing, and Latvian star Janis Reisulis maintains the points lead for VHR VRT Yamaha Official EMX250 ahead of JM Honda Racing’s Noel Zanocz, despite neither rider seeing the podium last time out.  Ivano van Erp and Gyan Doensen both won FIM Junior World Championships in Finland, so they could have a say in the podium positions, with Doensen lying fourth in this series behind Matterley winner Francesco Garcia of Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki.

Finland will also host the eleventh round of the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Championship with MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 pilot Mano Faure now holding the red plate, although he is level on points with Racestore KTM Factory Juniors rider Nicolò Alvisi! The Frenchman has won the last three rounds of this series, as well as the 125cc class at the FIM World Junior Championships last weekend, so it’s fair to say that he’s the rider on form! Filippo Mantovani holds third for the KTM Beddini Racing Team, while Finnish entrants Viktor Leppälä and Matias Miettinen will be hoping to repeat their points-scoring performances from the Latvian round!

A new venue is always tough to call, but every rider will be looking to put their name down as the first winner here, so you can be sure of some fiery racing in the forests of Finland!

MXGP World Championship points leader Romain Febvre was very happy to stop the rot of losing points to his main challenger Lucas Coenen with a convincing win at Matterley Basin, although his lead of 32 over the Belgian is in no way insurmountable.  For his part, the KTM man must be getting eager to break his streak of second-place finishes, especially on a sandy circuit which should suit his all-action style.  Lucas took fourth overall at Vantaa in 2023, his debut season in MX2, with 5-3 finishes despite a heavy crash in Saturday’s Qualifying Race.

Glenn Coldenhoff made a welcome return to the podium at Matterley Basin, and the last time he raced in Finland saw him take third overall with 4-3 finishes.  After taking Fantic’s first ever GP race win at the British Grand Prix, the Dutchman will fancy his chances of a GP victory in the sort of sand in which he has always gone well.

Ruben Fernandez advanced to fourth in the series for Honda HRC with a fine second in race two at Matterley Basin, and will look to reel in the 28-point gap to Coldenhoff for the bronze medal in the series.  Sadly for the next two riders in the Championship, injury has plagued them this year. Maxime Renaux is still fifth for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP, ahead of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings, but both riders are likely to miss the MXGP of Finland due to ongoing injuries in the Frenchman’s case, and due to a training crash resulting in a broken collarbone for the Dutchman.

Renaux’s teammate Calvin Vlaanderen will look to advance from seventh place in the Championship, while Coldenhoff’s teammate Andrea Bonacorsi will do everything to move up from eighth.  The tall pair are just seven points apart so it could get tasty if we see them together on track!

Still in tenth, behind the injured Tim Gajser in the Championship, is Aruba.it Ducati Factory Mx Team rider Jeremy Seewer, who finished fourth in Finland in 2023 and will be hoping to improve on that this time.  Jere Haavisto is the only Finn to have scored points in MXGP this season, just the one in Latvia, but fellow Scandinavians Isak Gifting and Kevin Horgmo will hope to keep the fans happy with strong performances.  Estonian wildcards Jorgen-Matthias Talviku and former GP winner Gert Krestinov will make the short journey across the Gulf of Finland to line up this weekend as well!

Few know what to expect from the brand-new circuit at the KymiRing, but for sure the MXGP elite will give it everything to stamp their name as the first winner here in the premier class!

MXGP - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Romain Febvre (FRA, KAW), 584 Points; 2. Lucas Coenen (BEL, KTM), 552 Points; 3. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, FAN), 411 Pts; 4. Ruben Fernandez (ESP, HON), 383 Pts; 5. Maxime Renaux (FRA, YAM), 347 Points; 6. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 325 Pts; 7. Calvin Vlaanderen (NED, YAM), 319 Pts; 8. In the class which has been incredibly close and unpredictable for the first half of the season, the MX2 World Championship has suddenly seen a huge points lead build up for Simon Längenfelder, who posted a perfect 60-point weekend in the UK while his main Championship chasers struggled with crashes and ill fortune.  The German now has a 52-point buffer over fellow Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Andrea Adamo, and although the Italian will approach Finland with the confidence of being the most recent winner in this country, Längenfelder will also know that he was twice second to Adamo at Vantaa in 2023, and won the Qualifying Race that weekend as well!

The enigma of the season so far has to be Kay de Wolf, while looking strong for much of the opening half of the year, the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team leader is now 18 points behind Adamo, and while he missed the Finnish round in 2023 through injury, his strength in the sand is something that he can usually rely on, although 2025 has not always played out that way!  His teammate Liam Everts is fourth in the series, another 41 points back, and he was third overall at Vantaa in 2023, so should be looking forward to returning to Finland.

Sacha Coenen took his only GP win of the year so far just over the water in Latvia, so he could be a major threat again for top honours this weekend.  He is chased by Thibault Benistant in the points standings, and the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 man will be hoping to prove that he can be a major player in soft going, which has been his main weakness this season.

Camden McLellan, on the other hand, is a proven sand master from his podium in Sardegna, so he’ll be out for a return to the top places for Monster Energy Triumph Racing. Valerio Lata is eighth in the series for Honda HRC after a rough couple of GPs, and has his old EMX250 adversary Cas Valk just behind him for Van Venrooy KTM Racing, in the country where the Dutchman finished on the podium at the FIM World Juniors 125cc Championship just three years ago.  Spaniard Oriol Oliver rounds out the top ten in the series for Gabriel SS24 KTM Factory Juniors, and could surely be a threat for the podium with the speed he has shown recently!

With home hero Kasimir Hindersson making his long-awaited GP debut, and travelling fans from Latvia sure to be vocal for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 flyer Karlis Reisulis, the racing should be hot stuff at the most northern venue of the entire MXGP season! Tune in to check it out!

MX2 - World Championship Top 10 Classification: 1. Simon Längenfelder (GER, KTM), 575 Points; 2. Andrea Adamo (ITA, KTM), 523 Pts;  3. Kay de Wolf (NED, HUS), 505 Points; 4. Liam Everts (BEL, HUS), 464 Pts; 5. Sacha Coenen (BEL, KTM), 433 Pts; 6. Thibault Benistant (FRA, YAM), 417 Pts; 7. Camden McLellan (RSA, TRI), 358 Pts; 8. Valerio Lata (ITA, HON), 281 Pts; 9. Cas Valk (NED, KTM), 267 Pts; 10. Oriol Oliver (ESP, KTM), 246 Pts.

MXGP OF AUSTRALIA UNVEILS ON-TRACK TIMETABLE AS MULTIPLE WORLD CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN DARWIN THIS SEPTEMBER

DARWIN (Australia) 25 June 2025 - The Top End is gearing up for a high-stakes motocross spectacle as the MXGP of Australia roars into Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway from 19-21 September 2025, marking the FIM Motocross World Championship’s highly anticipated return to Australia after 24 years.

As the climactic final round of the 2025 FIM World Motocross Championship series, Darwin is set to witness history on a purpose-built, 1.6-kilometre world-class track, with three 2025 world champions to be crowned on home soil.

The MXGP of Australia promises three days of thrilling track action with the on-track timetable catering for racing fans, teams and riders. Day one of racing kicks off on Friday, 19 September, with the national support classes. The MX85 class will have all three of its races, each a fierce 15 minutes plus 1 lap, while the MX3 class begins its first two races each for 20 minutes plus 1 lap.

Saturday, 20 September brings a packed schedule, with Qualifying sessions and a historic milestone as the FIM Women’s World Championship makes its Australian debut. The day begins early with WMX, MX2, and MXGP Free Practice sessions. Qualifying sessions for WMX, MX2, and MXGP will dominate the afternoon, while the final Aussie MX3 Race 3 takes place at 4:45pm (20 minutes + 1 lap).

The main event day on Sunday will host the FIM World Championship Races and features warm-up sessions for WMX, MX2, and MXGP. First up on the podiums will be the crowning of the 2025 WMX World Champion. Fans can then look forward to two intense GPs for both the MX2 and MXGP classes, as the afternoon and race weekend ends with MX2 Race 2 at 3:00pm and MXGP Race 2 at 4:00pm, and then 2025 world champions will be crowned.

Darwin is the 20th and final round for MXGP and MX2, and the 6th and final round for WMX, culminating a 24-week, six-country journey for the women's series. The thrilling possibility remains, pending progressive points tallies that the winners of all three coveted FIM World Championship titles could be decided in the Top End, making it an unmissable event for motorsport fans globally.

Beyond the international battles, the on-track timetable highlights Australia's motocross future through vital national support classes. Selected Australian riders will be given wildcard entries into the MXGP, MX2, and WMX classes, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against the world’s best MX riders.

A thrilling addition is the Motorcycling Australia (MA) State Challenge. This initiative features the MX3 class (14-18 years) and the MX85 class (12-16 years). Each State Controlling Body in Australia will select two six-rider MX3 and MX85 teams via their own qualifying processes, which will include ProMX and state championship events. In Darwin, three trophies will be awarded: to the top states in MX3 and MX85, and an overall winner.

The MXGP of Australia promises diverse entertainment, delicious food, and plenty of off-track activities. Delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company in partnership with MXGP rights-holder Infront Moto Racing and Motorcycling Australia, this global sporting event is a must-do on the Top End’s events calendar.

Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo:
“We are pleased to share the timetable for the upcoming MXGP of Australia, which marks an important return of the series to the country after 24 years. With MXGP, MX2, WMX, and the addition of Australian MX3 and MX85 classes, the event will offer a full showcase of motocross talent. A high-quality, purpose-built track is currently under construction, and we look forward to working closely with the Northern Territory Major Events Company and Motorcycling Australia to deliver a successful and memorable Grand Prix.”

Northern Territory Major Events Company Executive Director, Aimee Luxton:
"Unveiling the On-Track Timetable for the MXGP of Australia marks a truly exciting time, further building the immense anticipation for this global sporting event in the Top End. Hosting the final round of three FIM World Championships firmly places Darwin on the international motocross map.

“Not only will fans witness world champions crowned on our brand-new, purpose-built track at Hidden Valley, but the inclusion of our national MX3 and MX85 State Challenge provides an incredible platform for Australia's rising stars to shine on the same international stage.

“This is an unmissable event for all motocross enthusiasts, offering the pinnacle of the sport while also inviting international and interstate visitors on a journey of discovery through the Top End. We look forward to sharing the extraordinary beauty of our National Parks, the flavour of our local food scene, and the thrilling outdoor activities available, urging everyone to explore all that our special region has to offer beyond the track."

Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle:
“The long-awaited return of the FIM Motocross World Championship to Australia, as well as the debut of the WMX class on local shores, is simply massive for motocross Down Under, and I again congratulate the Northern Territory government and NT Major Events for their foresight and commitment to bringing the event to life.

“We’ve already passed plenty of milestones in the build-up to the inaugural Darwin event, and the on-track schedule is the latest as riders prepare to go into battle on a world-class track that’s set to provide three days of gripping entertainment. And with the spectre of world championship battles going right down to the wire in the final round of the season, Darwin will be the ultimate high-stakes event.

“The MXGP of Australia covers the full spectrum of riders, from the titans of motocross in MXGP, MX2 and WMX to the stars of tomorrow in the MX85 and MX3 classes as part of the Motorcycling Australia State Challenge. The world championship classes will also feature wildcards from our Australian ProMX Championship, who will be determined to put their names up in lights with strong performances.

“As world motocross action returns to Australia after a 24-year absence, I can’t wait for three days of spectacular action in the Top End.”

FEBVRE AND LÄNGENFELDER BOSS THE BASIN AT THE MXGP OF GREAT BRITAIN

MATTERLEY BASIN (Great Britain) 22nd June 2025 – Although the sun hid behind the clouds for most of GP race day at Matterley Basin, the stars of MXGP shone through with a brilliant showcase of flat-out Motocross at the MXGP of Great Britain, the 12th round of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championships!

With the track crew battling an eternally drying surface that was subject to both sunshine and strong winds, the riders responded with maximum effort all round, and it was the Championship leaders in both classes that prevailed with some flawless riding to strengthen their positions as red plate holders!

Romain Febvre bounced back from third in race one to dominate race two and clinch his fourth GP win of the season for Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP, while Lucas Coenen took second overall yet again for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Matterley Basin also saw a podium return for Glenn Coldenhoff, after clinching the first ever race win in the opener for Fantic Factory Racing MXGP!

MX2 saw the completion of a perfect weekend for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Simon Längenfelder, showing patience to fight through the field in race one before enjoying a gate-to-flag victory in race two.  Liam Everts had his best result for some time with second overall for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, with Längenfelder’s teammate Sacha Coenen in third.

Once more the natural amphitheatre of Matterley Basin challenged the very best in front of an enthusiastic crowd, who will surely be back for more in years to come.

The morning Warm Up saw Romain Febvre in a mood to show who was boss by setting the only sub-two-minute lap of the session, with Lucas Coenen over a second and a half behind in second, ahead of Andrea Bonacorsi for Fantic Factory Racing MXGP.

Despite not looking comfortable in Saturday’s Qualifying Race, Coenen gave himself the best shot at redemption on Sunday with a storming Fox Holeshot Award, his tenth of the season, as Coldenhoff gave chase ahead of Ruben Fernandez for Honda HRC.  Antonio Cairoli, racing for the second time this season for the Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team, showed he wasn’t just playing around as he moved into fifth behind the Red Bull KTM of Jeffrey Herlings, putting series leader Febvre behind him in turn three! TC222 even gave “The Bullet” a little contact halfway around the lap, and was clearly enjoying one of his favourite circuits, even though Febvre got past him towards the end of the first full lap.

Isak Gifting enjoyed barging his JK Racing Yamaha past Cairoli for sixth at the end of the start straight, while the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP machine of Calvin Vlaanderen started in eighth ahead of fellow Dutchman Brian Bogers on the second factory Fantic.  With his best start of the season, Team Motul Honda Motoblouz SR rider Alberto Forato rounded out the top ten at the start of the race!

Halfway around lap two, Coenen had his wheels slip out from under him, allowing Coldenhoff into the lead.  By lap six, Herlings had found his flow and pushed up the inside of Fernandez for third.  It took “The Bullet” only three laps to chase down Coenen and advance into second, initially pulling away and seeming ready to threaten Coldenhoff for the lead!

Further back, Vlaanderen had railed round the outside of Gifting for sixth, after passing Cairoli along Pit Lane as the Italian seemed to signal that he had a brake problem, although the nine-time Champ recovered to score seventh behind the surviving factory Yamaha man.  Jago Geerts had already crashed out and was to miss race two with a suspected foot injury.

As Gifting pulled out of the race after a crash, Bogers and Forato moved up to secure eighth and ninth, with Brent van Doninck taking a good tenth place for JM Racing Honda.

Lap 13 was unlucky for Herlings, slipping to the ground after the big uphill quad jump, dropping himself from second to fourth, still ahead of Fernandez but behind Febvre.  Coenen had drawn breath and launched an attack on Coldenhoff for the lead, but the veteran Dutchman held fast to take a brilliant first ever race win for Fantic as an MXGP manufacturer!  Amazingly, it was also the Dutchman’s first race win here, after winning the 2013 MX2 Grand Prix overall with a 3-4 scorecard!

Gusts of wind hit the circuit hard for race two, and it was clear that the ultra-professional riders were in a cautious mood over the many big jumps around the track.  Febvre rocketed into the lead for his fourth Fox Holeshot Award of the season, while Fernandez held back the two Red Bull KTMs of Coenen and Herlings.

Coldenhoff was still in the hunt in fifth ahead of Vlaanderen, while Kevin Horgmo of Team Motul Honda Motoblouz SR ran well up in seventh, in his first GP back from a shoulder injury sustained at Ernée.  Cairoli held onto eighth ahead of his Aruba.it Ducati teammate Jeremy Seewer, while Forato backed up his first race result with tenth in race two, enough to earn him eighth overall ahead of Horgmo and Seewer.

Cairoli was as impressive as always with seventh overall, and Vlaanderen finished sixth again to take that position in the GP.  It was one of those races where the riders were equally matched and passing proved next to impossible.  Herlings was unable to make his early pressure on Coenen pay off with an overtake, and ultimately the closest battle was between him and his compatriot Coldenhoff, who twice drew level to take fourth but simply could not force past the canny GP-win record holder.

Herlings’ two fourth places were only good enough for fifth overall, while Fernandez put in a solid ride for second to claim fourth on the day. Coldenhoff took third overall for his first podium in over two months, as Coenen took second overall for the fifth straight Grand Prix.  Febvre was peerless to take his 25th career GP victory, and increases his Championship lead to 32 points over his teenage pursuer.  Fernandez advances to fourth in the series behind Coldenhoff but ahead of the absent Maxime Renaux, while Herlings is now sixth in the Championship! Vlaanderen advanced to seventh at the expense of the injured Tim Gajser and Bonacorsi, who had a very disappointing British GP in 16th overall.

The Championship takes the next two weekends off before the MXGP of Finland on the 12th & 13th of July.  Who will cope with a brand-new circuit better than the rest? Join us to find out!

Romain Febvre: "It's been a good weekend. Like I said yesterday, I felt really good on the track. Yesterday was good, but in the first race I didn’t get the start. I came close to the front at some point, but in the end they had a little bit more pace and I had to fight hard to come back. So I finished third. But in the second race I pulled the holeshot and that changed my life. I could ride free, take my own lines, and make a gap. Fernandez was coming back at the end, he was quite strong, but I won the overall. So yeah, it’s been a really good weekend. Thanks to all my sponsors and my team."

Lucas Coenen: "I felt bad the whole weekend on track. I struggled big time on Saturday and just tried to fix it for today, but still I didn’t really feel my flow. Also the down starts with the 450, there’s a lot of power and I need to get used to that. First race  I got the holeshot, that was good, but then I had a tip-over, they passed me, and I tried to come back but couldn’t manage to pass. Then, not the best start in race 2 and I tried to pass Fernandez but it was a bit sketchy, so I ran out of time. But yeah, we know what to work on and looking forward to the rest."

Glenn Coldenhoff: “Actually, the whole weekend was great. I was feeling good on the bike, the bike was working amazingly. My start wasn’t that good in the second race, but I kept fighting all the way. I even thought I wouldn’t be on the podium. I thought I had to pass Herlings, and I did everything I could. But it’s really difficult to pass, especially a fast guy like Jeffrey."

Längenfelder backed up his Qualifying Race win with the fastest time in Sunday morning Warm Up, but Championship chaser Andrea Adamo gave notice of his challenge by finishing just 25 thousandths of a second behind his fellow Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot!

Indeed it was Adamo who took his fourth Fox Holeshot Award of the season in race one, with Sacha Coenen in second momentarily, before the Gabriel SS24 KTM Factory Juniors machine of Oriol Oliver forced past him in the third corner, and to everyone’s surprise suddenly leapt to the inside of Adamo after the big quad jump to lead the race!

David Braceras held fourth for JM Racing Honda, while at the start of the first full lap, Guillem Farres completed the Spanish triple threat by pushing past Längenfelder to take fifth for Monster Energy Triumph Racing!

Adamo suffered a small but awkward crash on a downhill drop-off midway through the first full lap, and dropped back to 12th place as he rejoined. Farres relegated Braceras to fourth on lap two, while Reigning Champ Kay de Wolf was now sixth for Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, trying to pass Längenfelder.

After Längenfelder fought past Braceras on lap four, the resilient Spaniard held onto fifth for six laps ahead of the second Monster Energy Triumph of Camden McLellan, who had already forced past De Wolf. On lap ten, the dam broke as four riders went past the Spaniard, then another a lap later, pushing him down to ninth at the finish ahead of a disappointed Adamo.

Kawasaki Racing Team MX2’s lone wolf Mathis Valin was the last rider to pass Braceras to take eighth, but Everts had recovered from an average start and was able to get up to sixth past De Wolf with three laps to go. Up front, however, Oliver had looked in clear control of the race until a tiny error in the wave section, which sent him crashing off the track.  He got back onboard quickly after only losing the lead to Coenen, but Längenfelder had already got back past Farres and was truly clicking with the circuit, up into second on lap eight and reeling in Coenen to take the lead three laps later!

Oliver’s third place was still his career best in MX2, and McLellan also took a good result in winning the battle of the Triumphs for fourth ahead of Farres. Längenfelder’s sixth GP race win of the year left him with a 45-point advantage over Adamo heading into race two!

Clearly with an idea to make things look even easier, Längenfelder pulled his fifth Fox Holeshot of the season and didn’t give anyone a chance to catch him, instantly posting sub-two-minute lap times that the rest simply couldn’t live with! Everts made a good attempt with a much better start in second, while Thibault Benistant, a disappointed 11th in race one for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2, took third early on and had a lucky escape when a mistake in the waves was only corrected due to Oliver falling over his back wheel!

The unlucky Spaniard picked the bike up outside the top twenty, and begun a majestic charge through the pack that would eventually see him cross the line in tenth place! Farres inherited fourth due to the crash, with Coenen, Adamo, and Valin in hot pursuit!

Race two was not as kind to De Wolf or McLellan, who ended the race unable to move forward from eighth and ninth, leaving De Wolf tenth overall and facing a 70-point gap to Längenfelder in order to defend his #1 plate.  Valin would finish seventh in race two to claim that position overall, while further ahead it was Coenen who was struggling the most with the dryer conditions, taking sixth in the race after being hit on the top lip by a big stone.

Adamo was able to pass the young Belgian, and then Farres at exactly halfway, but could progress no further than fourth to take eighth overall behind McLellan, while Benistant’s steady third place was enough for sixth.

Oliver’s fightback had rightfully earnt himself a top five overall finish, putting him just into the top ten of the series, and you feel that a podium cannot be far away! Farres was fourth overall with his two fourth positions, while Coenen was able to claim yet another podium behind Everts and the imperious Längenfelder.  The German now holds a significant 52-point lead in the series with eight rounds left to race!

Nobody knows what to expect from the new Iitti-Kymi Ring venue in Finland, which will host round thirteen after two weekends off.  Join us there with a refreshed field of riders ready to make their mark on the new track!  The unexpected is always fun!

Simon Längenfelder: “What can I say? It went perfect. It was a great weekend. Especially coming back in that first race from sixth to first.. that was a great feeling. And backing it up in the second race is awesome. Now we have two weekends of break, so I think we have time to recover and then start the last push."

Liam Everts: "I actually felt my first race was a bit better. I just got a horrendous jump but the riding was really good. In the second one I got a good jump and rode solid laps. I tried to stay with Simon, but he just had a little bit extra in some details. But it’s a good confidence boost going into two weekends off. I’m gonna enjoy it."

Sacha Coenen: "Definitely not the easiest weekend. So yeah, finishing with the podium is quite nice. Second race, I just got hit by a rock on the first lap, so had a lot of pain. But yeah, just put my head down. So  we just finished P3 overall.. it’s better than nothing."
