Tonus and Paulin: Ready for racing

For two Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP riders, Arnaud Tonus and Gautier Paulin, the wait for the season to restart has been though, but both riders know the importance of the world getting back on its feet and the sport also moving into a more positive position.

Tonus who is back home in Switzerland working hard and preparing to come back to his best form is open for whatever it takes to restart the 2020 MXGP championship

“For myself,” Tonus said. “I am waiting for whatever calendar they offer us, and then prepare for that. I need to be ready for those races. I take it as it comes, and I stay ready. I think it is going to happen and I really hope so and I think it can turn over pretty quickly. We can see now they really start to open things up and they want to make the world move again, because it is hard on the economy and I think moving in this direction we will race. I think whatever they can do to make races is great and I am open for that. I think for the brands, the sponsors, the teams, everyone, we need racing, so I am open for anything to get back going again.”

Sitting in France with his little child and wife Paulin is ready to come back now but understands it might be a little while before we can see racing again, and he is prepared for whatever schedule is decided. He has continued to work hard on his profession and expects to be 100% ready when the gate drops.

“I am an athlete inside and outside,” Paulin said. “I really love sport, so just to get ready for the first GP is tough and it is a tight period with your training and then riding the bike you don’t have much time to do your sport. Motocross is demanding, so when we stopped, I took some rest and then started training again, and doing things I couldn’t do before. The first thing I will answer, this is my job and I listen to what the calendar is and make it happen. Have a great world championship is the goal anyway. I am ready to go racing tomorrow if we need to.”

No doubt, when the MXGP championship is again up and running, these two Yamaha mounted riders will be more than ready to once again put 100% into their performance and help the sport continue to look amazing.

Empirelogomats and MXGP continue working together

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 13 May 2020 – Infront Moto Racing is excited to reveal that Empirelogomats will continue as part of FIM Motocross World Championship, providing various mats and carpets for the incredible MXGP structures.

Empirelogomats and MXGP have been working together for many years, and the renewal of this collaboration is great news for both parties.

Empirelogomats was founded in 2009 by two avid Belgian motocross fans and have followed the FIM Motocross World Championship for many years. In the winter of 2009 they came up with the idea of printing onto carpet, just as you would onto a poster. By 2010 printing was in progress and Empirelogomats were in high demand.

From early on, Empirelogomats have partnered with MXGP with their high-quality carpets found in many areas of the MXGP paddock, from offices, to the podium, the popular Skybox Terrace, as well as the MXGP Skybox Restaurant.

Since 2009 the use of Environmental Mats became compulsory at all FIM events, as the FIM rule book states “an Environmental Mat is compulsory for all disciplines. It must be composed of an absorbent part and an impermeable part. Its use will be compulsory everywhere where work on motorcycles is allowed.” The purpose of an Environmental Mat is to protect the earth by preventing fuel, oil, coolant or any harmful substance from making contact with the ground.

Each carpet features a rubber/PVC base with a thick and absorbent layer of Nylon on top, with the Nylon acting as an absorbent, while the rubber and PVC base working as a barrier of which the absorbed substance cannot seep through. That’s why Empirelogomats have become so popular in the industry and are used by many of the top teams in MXGP, as not only do they help to protect the environment from harmful substances, they are also great for advertising purposes, too.

Empirelogomats stands for genuine ecological environmental carpets and they are the only ones making them according to all the FIM regulations with official approved TÜV and ISO9001 certificates and labels making sure that effectively these carpets contribute to the preservation of the environment. Empirelogomats is dedicated to help improve the global issues concerning pollution involved in mechanical sports and therefore fights against all use of piracy and fake carpets in the market.

Jorge Prado: Physical Preparation with Carlos Coloma and Mikel Zabala

The young MXGP rookie takes a chance on the successful Spanish tandem to face his first season in MXGP.

The current MX2 World Champion, Jorge Prado, will put himself in the hands of Carlos Coloma and Mikel Zabala to develop his physical training. After achieving his back to back titles, Jorge has made the mandatory jump to the MXGP category and faces the difficult challenge of competing with 450cc motorcycles against the best riders in the world.

Prado, who is integrated into the Italian structure of the Red Bull KTM Factory team, will be trained from now on by the successful Spanish tandem made up of Coloma and Zabala. Carlos Coloma is one of the reference among the mountain bike athletes nationwide. The 38 year-old biker, from La Rioja, is still active and one of the best mountain bikers in the world. Moreover, he has formed a PRO MTB team, where he competes alongside his pupil Rocío García and his colleague and teammate Pablo Rodríguez. But, with no doubt, the highlight of his career is the Olympic bronze he got in Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

This achievement would have been more complicated without the support of his coaches Jose Barruetabeña and Mikel Zabala. It will be Mikel together with Carlos who will help Jorge in his personal and professional development. But, who is Mikel Zabala? He is Coloma’s coach, the person who guided him on his way to that Olympic medal. Mikel, Dr. in Sport Science by University of Granada, is a physical trainer of Movistar Team, the Pro Tour Spanish road team.

This two guys fusion, Coloma-Zabala, makes the perfect tandem for Jorge Prado's evolution and progress in his new challenge. The 19 year-old double world champion didn’t hesitate to rely on them to enhance a very important part of his physical preparation. Prado, a talented rider well-known for his work capacity and perseverance, is aware of the need for a great effort to achieve his goals in the highest class.

Jorge Prado showed his enthusiasm: "I know well Carlos's career and Mikel's prestige and I am sure they will provide me a lot of knowledge of their experience. In the MXGP World Championship, it is essential to get a high-level physical training and I know that I'll have the perfect partners to continue developing my career" Carlos Coloma proudly answer as follows: "I am really excited about this very motivating project. It’s not every day someone with such a talent and humbleness decides to trust you to improve his training. Share it with experience of Mikel Zabala in the clinical part, makes us a very complete duo. We will try to contribute to the seamless and brilliant professional and personal career of Jorge Prado, his family and team. What they have achieved so far is certainly admirable“.

On the other hand, Mikel Zabala pointed out: "For me it is an incredible challenge, and sharing it with Carlos is a guarantee of sparkle and excitement in the process. We have always followed Jorge and his family, as I am passionate about MX. It is the sport, together with cycling, I have dedicated my life on, so this increases my enthusiasm for this project. Adding the awesome talent that Jorge unarguably has, becomes it a privilege. We will try to support this great rider in the best possible way".

Riders begin to train again in Belgium and Holland

Great news this week as circuits around Europe began to open and Grand Prix riders have their chance to ride their bikes again. Training tracks in Belgium and Holland opened up for riders, with federations working overtime to get the circuits up and running.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Ben Watson is still in the UK, although in a week he will head back to his Belgian base and start working again with his team member.

“Lommel is open to a few Belgian GP riders now,” Watson said. “My plan is to get work papers from Yamaha so I can cross the border. Flights are not possible, but the Eurotunnel is open, so I plan to go back to Belgium around the 11th, so not too long.”

Standing Construct Gas Gas Factory MXGP rider Glenn Coldenhoff is more than excited and appreciates the work his federation put in to get some professional riders riding again after it was originally only okayed for under 18 years to ride.

“Last week we got some good news that selected professional motocross riders are allowed to ride again, which is big news from our federation the KNVB and a big effort and we can ride two days in the week. We can ride a little bit, so Tuesday is hard pack and Thursday is a deep sand track, so we have a bit of a mix. I think there are eight to 10 professional motocross riders and they have made a schedule that we don’t all ride together.

EMX125 red plate holder Liam Everts can’t wait to get back on the track, and although he has done some riding in the forest on to his families property, the idea of riding places like Lommel again and continue his improvement is a big step for such a young rider.

“I haven’t ridden there yet,” Everts said. “Lommel won’t open until the 14th, because they are still waiting on permission. Of course, when we get the green light, I am very excited to race again. It will be nice to train again.”

So, with riders back on their bikes throughout Europe, hopefully we can all be as positive as possible, and the 2020 season can once again fire into life.

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 15 April 2020 – Infront Moto Racing would like to inform that there have been further changes made to the 2020 MXGP racing calendar.

Due to the global situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, further changes have been made in order to ensure the health and safety of the staff, teams, riders and fans. Infront Moto Racing alongside with the FIM, FIM Europe and the local organisers are working hard to preserve as much of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship calendar as possible.

First update involves the MXGP of Russia, due to take place on the 7th of June at the Orlyonok venue as it will now be postponed to the 5th of July, while the MXGP of Latvia will move from the 14th of June, with the event taking place at the popular Kegums circuit on the 12th of July.

Additionally, the recent announcement by the French government also means that the MXGP of France scheduled on the 28th of June, will take place at a later date, with an announcement being made following the development of restrictions that have been put in place.

The Icing on the Cake: A new team structure for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory MXGP

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 14th April 2020 - New season, new look… that’s the exact attitude that the IceOne Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory MXGP team has entered the 2020 season with. At Matterley Basin, during the MXGP of Great Britain, all eyes were on the team, with the squad unveiling a brand-new, and very impressive, team set-up!

While we’re all used to seeing these F1 style structures as support assemblies, take for example the Red Bull Hospitality tuck, but for it to be used as a team ‘awning’ compared to the traditional constructions that we tend to see in the MXGP paddock, this is something quite new, and quickly caught the eyes of many, on site and online

For the latest issue of the MXGP Magazine, we caught-up with Team Manager, Antti Pyrhonen, to find out more about the incredible structure that has now become home to Arminas Jasikonis, Pauls Jonass and the rest of the team during the race weekends.

Read the special feature in the 80th issue of MXGP Mag HERE! or download it for FREE on Apple Store or Google Play.

Users who have already downloaded other issues on their iOS device can automatically download the new issue by opening the News Stand and clicking on the cover of the MXGP Mag.
