GASGAS FACTORY RACING SUPPORT F4E TEAM FOR 2020 EMX125 SERIES

GasGas Factory Racing are pleased to announce that they will officially support the F4E team in the eight-round 2020 European Motocross Championship EMX125. Together with the Spanish RFME federation, the team will develop and assist a trio of 16-year-old talents - David Braceras, Gerard Congost and Guillem Farres.

  • F4E will contest the 2020 EMX125 series on GasGas 125cc two-stroke machinery
  • F4E runs in collaboration with the Spanish RFME youth development programme
  • EMX125 acts as an important stepping-stone into the FIM Motocross World Championship

Robert Jonas, VP Motorsports Offroad: “Thanks to F4E and the work of the Spanish Federation, together with Standing Construct GasGas Factory Racing and Diga Procross GasGas Factory Juniors, GasGas will be present across many levels of MXGP and EMX for 2020. It’s especially exciting that we have this Spanish link for the brand and are in the search for the next Jorge Prado. EMX125 racing is tough but a useful learning ground for the youth who have dreams of MXGP. We hope this new set-up will be an important first step for riders and those keen to enjoy success in GasGas colours.”

Jimmy Verburgh, F4E Team Manager: “I am very happy that GasGas has chosen us to run their EMX team. The RFME wanted to use our structure and saw good potential with the way we go racing. I think with these three youngsters we have a very strong team for next season. The guys have good experience in EMX and should aim for top results. We’ll be pushing for the maximum, but I want them to have fun with their racing - no pressure, just enjoy it and the rest will come.”

Spaniards David Braceras, Gerard Congost and Guillem Farres will represent GasGas Factory Racing and F4E during their 2020 EMX125 campaign. All riders have a strong pedigree in the series, with both Braceras and Congost having already secured top-six race finishes in 2019. Farres ended last season inside the top-10 in ninth, while also securing two top-three race results.

Acting as an important stepping stone into the FIM Motocross World Championship, the RFME youth development programme aims to ready young talent for a future career in top-level racing.

The EMX125 series promotes 125cc two-stroke machinery and is a crucial and extremely competitive first rung on the ladder towards the FIM Motocross World Championship and MXGP.

The EMX125 series will be held at eight rounds of the 2020 MXGP championship – Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, France, Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Italy. The opening round of the 2020 EMX125 championship takes place at Matterley Basin, Great Britain on March 1.

Thomas Covington – MXGP Return

I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are excited to have Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Supported MXGP rider Thomas Covington back on the Grand Prix circuits. The likeable American who put together a handful of Grand Prix victories in the MX2 class before heading home for one season to race his national championships is excited to return to the place that gave him his first start in the professional ranks.

“You know,” Covington said. “I am excited to go back to the GPs. Unfortunately, this year didn’t go to plan, what with the illness and a couple of small injuries, it just wasn’t my year really. Had a lot of things working against me. I am really excited with this opportunity with Yamaha and like you said, I was a little bit sad to leave last time and it will be nice to get back and be back at the races in Europe.

The more relaxed vibe of racing on the best motocross tracks in the World and in some really exciting countries and customs is something that Covington is looking forward to when his season begins at Matterley Basin on the first weekend of March 2020.

“Argentina, I love that track. I haven’t had much success there, but I really enjoy going down there, and Matterley Basin is probably one of my favourite tracks to ride and I have had good results there. Valkenswaard in 2018, I won the qualification race there and I have had good races, so I am looking forward to getting back there and mixing it up with the 450 guys.”

Covington will finish up some preparation at home in USA, enjoy family time, before flying to Europe and starting the serious side of his profession. Back to those cold days in Lommel, Belgium, or sunning it in the pre-season in the south of Italy as his Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Supported MXGP team-mates, the hard yards of the off-season will set him up well for a charge at the MXGP top ten, and hopefully the odd visit to the podium.

“I will stay here in California until Christmas, and then head to meet the team. I will probably stay somewhere between Lommel and England and do our testing and training before the pre-season starts. I will be in England a bit, but the majority of time I will be in Belgium or Holland working with the team.”

When the flag drops at the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championships in England on March 1, we know that the American public will be watching as their countrymen goes up against the toughest and deepest field in motocross history.

MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Signs 3 Exciting Youngsters for 2020 EMX125 Season

Yamaha Motor Europe is pleased to announce that MJC Yamaha Official EMX125 Team will field an all-new, young and exciting three-rider line-up for the 2020 EMX125 Championship. The team has recruited Kay Karssemakers and Ivano Van Erp, two former Junior Motocross World Champions, who will be joined by the recently announced winner of the 2019 YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup, Mairus Pumpurs.

15-year-old Dutch prodigy Kay Karssemakers is already a household name. The talented youngster has an array of World Championship accolades. He was the 65cc Junior Motocross World Champion in 2015, he then went on to claim two bronze medals at the 2017 and 2018 editions of the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship on a 85cc. In 2019, the talented Dutchman stepped up to the 125cc and made his EMX125 debut where he completed a positive first term in the class with three top-10 race finishes during the latter stages of the championship.

After showing solid progress and finishing 16th overall in the 2019 EMX125 Championship where he was one of the best placed rookies, Karssemakers has been named as a title threat as he enters his second full EMX125 season where he will line up on GYTR kitted YZ125 alongside the new rookies van Erp and Pumpurs.

As the 2017 65cc Junior Motocross World Champion, 14-year-old Dutchman Ivano van Erp looks forward to stepping up to the hotly contested EMX125 series with the support of Yamaha’s Official EMX125 team. As does 16-year-old Latvian Mairus Pumpurs who won his place on the team after showcasing his potential on various occasions in the YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup program, which included an emphatic victory at the YZ125 bLU cRU FIM Europe Cup SuperFinale that took place at the biggest and most watched event of the year, the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Assen, The Netherlands.

All three riders will line-up in 2020 on GYTR kitted YZ125 machinery. They will race the full EMX125 championship, an eight-round series that coincides with the prestigious FIM MXGP World Championship rounds in the UK, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Italy.

MX2 Contenders – Olsen and Watson

While the 2020 MX2 Championship won’t be starting for another three months, the expectations for who will become the new MX2 World champion is already into overdrive. Two riders who should be fighting for the MX2 championship among others might be Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Thomas Olsen and Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha’s Ben Watson. We decided to ask these two riders what they expect from the new season.

Olsen has had a quiet off-season so far. A trip to Thailand for a holiday, and now finally back on the bike in preparation for round one of the championship at Matterley Basin in England at the beginning of March.

“At the moment it is just full focus on what we are doing,” Olsen said. “The winter period is super important, and it lays down the foundation for the season. It is important to get the riding in and get the good preparation. Mentally it is a big deal, but I haven’t felt it yet and maybe I will, but last year I was in that position (leading the championship) and I think I took it pretty well. I didn’t crumble under pressure or anything like that. I have won championships before like the Europeans and it isn’t like I haven’t been in a winning position before; I will take that with me in my backpack in 2020. It is great confidence to bring in, but it is a new season, and everyone has improved, and they all want those Grand Prix wins. Sure, experience is important, and leading laps, that is something I would have liked to have done more. It can be different to lead a race, something you need to maybe get used to, but I think everyone is really hungry for a GP win.”

As for Watson, he knows as well as anyone that the MX2 class will be loaded with talent, from the regular guys, to the new younger riders coming up from the EMX class. What he also knows is that Olsen might be the man to beat.

“There will be guys coming up from the EMX,” Watson said. “Look at Vialle this year, nobody expected him to do what he did in his first year, so there will be younger guys who might be in the mix. From the last few years, you see the steps in everyone. I see with Olsen, he hasn’t made big steps, but he has been twice third and one time second in the World, so you can’t knock that. He has very consistent stats so far and I’m sure he will be strong all season. You need to concentrate on yourself and show some good speed. Some of us will have to move up to 450 in 2021 also.”

So now, as both Olsen and Watson work through their off-season preparation, you can be sure that other MX2 contenders like Tom Vialle, Jago Geerts and Jed Beaton will also be doing their home-work and training as hard as possible to arrive in England in early March with their confidence high and their hopes even higher.
