ANDREA ADAMO – MOVING UP

The 2026 season might be one of the biggest in recent time, not only because so many riders are changing teams, but also because it might be the start of the new era, an era that will take us into the next decade.

Obviously, the biggest news is team changes for Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser, but the arrival of two-time MX2 champion, Tom Vialle into MXGP and with one-time MX2 champions, Kay de Wolf and Andrea Adamo also joining the class, those three things are huge for the 450 class.

Like Lucas Coenen, Vialle, de Wolf, Langenfelder and Liam Everts, Adamo has a style that will suit the MXGP class and, for riders like Jeffrey Herlings, Tim Gajser, Romain Febvre and Glenn Coldenhoff, these MX2 boys are going to be strong competitors for those legends.

“Of course,” Adamo said of the move. “I wanted to win another world championship in MX2, and it wasn’t sure I would do it, but I am more than confident, if I had stayed in 250, I would have fought for the championship again. On the other side, I would like to jump on a 450 and see. It is going to be the future and in one years’ time, I will have had to do it (he will age out of MX2).”

A lot of the confidence of Adamo also comes from watching MX2 rivals, Coenen, de Wolf and Everts show their speed on the 450 machines. He knows he will have a similar pace and he isn’t affair to head into 2026 with expectations of doing similar things as Coenen did in 2025.

“I think so too, honestly. Watching Lucas, wow, this year, just unbelievable, he was amazing. Kay and Liam (also on the 450), they are also good, and I know I am as good, or on some days better than those guys. If I make the step, it just gives me confidence seeing what they can do. I am not less than these guys and on my good day, I am better. That gives me a lot of confidence.”

So, with a tough season behind him, a winter break, some testing and training on the 450 and the Italian knows that things cannot get much more difficult than the season he has just had.

“Honestly, this season has been tougher than the other ones, it’s been tough and a lot of travelling, especially the last month, where we had Turkey, China, Australia, then a couple of nights home and USA. The first month or my off-season, I am taking full recovery. Not riding, but I have an enduro bike, which I like riding. This week I am going on an enduro week with my friends, riding enduro and some cycling. I try and do the things I cannot do in the season, so have some fun, maybe go to sleep a bit late, without being stressed, that next morning I need to get up early and train. That is how I approach my off season.”

And once his fun riding with his friends and the long days of testing the KTM 450 machine, Andrea Adamo will arrive in the pre-season races and the opening round of the MXGP championship with some goals, and when those goals are met, Grand Prix podiums and GP wins are without question something he feels he can chase.

JAPAN CELEBRATES ROMAIN FEBVRE

A few days ago Romain Febvre and the KRT Team Manager Antti Pyrhonen received a hearty welcome in Japan when they visited Kawasaki’s Kobe offices and Akashi factory recently. They spent good moments with the management and the staff of the Racing Department and returned to Europe highly optimistic for the future.

In the aftermath of the final MXGP in Australia and the MX of Nations in the USA, Romain and Antti faced another important trip as they flew to Japan to share good vibes with all of the people who work hard far from the tracks to provide the best material to the Kawasaki Racing Team which was so successful this season.

“It was great to go there for a few days to celebrate the title, to meet some of main figures of the company, and to spend time with all the people who work in the background. We spent two days at the factory, then we had one day of testing on the factory bike that they have in Japan, and that was really interesting as it has several differences to the bike we have in Europe,” explained Romain, who had also had one week of testing in Europe before flying to Japan.

As in 2015, when he won the world championship for the first time, Romain was enthusiastic to race the final round of the All Japan Championship which was also part of his programme during the trip.

“I had good memories from this track and we planned the trip so I could participate in this final race of the season. Everything was great and to win there with the Japanese series race  bike was perfect as we learnt some points for next season and that’s important,” added the MXGP world champion, who is already fully focused on defending his title next season.

“To win this second title has given me a lot of energy for the future! With a good winter the goal will be to claim a third title for sure. I will race with the number 1 on my Kawasaki; it's a new challenge and I know that the motivation to win races will be there again after a good winter.

Next season many new riders will arrive in the MXGP class and many will change team and bike while I know my bike and all the people in the team perfectly. With so many changes elsewhere maybe it’s the perfect moment to try to beat them again as they will probably need time to adapt to their new bikes.”

For KRT team manager Antti Pyrhonen the visit in Japan was another opportunity to interact with the staff and further strengthen ties with the factory at the start of their fifth season of close collaboration.

“I want to thank all of the people at KMC for organising such an amazing trip and the warm welcome they gave us, also a real lifetime experience and ceremony organised by the Kawasaki Motors Company President, Mr Ito. To see all the technology Kawasaki has in Japan gives us huge confidence to know we will continue to have the best bike and support in the years to come. The cherry on the cake came when Romain won every moto of the final round of the Japanese Championship at Sugo with the support of the Kawasaki R&D team. Thank You - Arigatogozaimasu  “

TOM VIALLE JOINS HONDA HRC FOR MXGP CHALLENGE IN STATEMENT SIGNING

Two-time MX2 World Champion and double-SX 250cc champion, Tom Vialle has signed for Honda HRC in a multi-year deal, that will see the Frenchman step up into the MXGP class for the foreseeable future. Knowing this was a critical time in his career, Vialle chose to switch brands and continents as he returns to the world motocross series and tries to continue his successful career on-board the Honda CRF450R.

Indeed, the prowess of this powerhouse machine, was one of the main reasons Vialle is returning ‘home’ after his stint in America, because the chance to ride a factory CRF450R doesn’t come around very often, and he didn’t want to let that opportunity slip through his fingers. The move up to the bigger bikes is such an important step to take, he knew that the right equipment and the right environment was paramount to helping continue his run of winning trophies.

Known as one of the most professional teams in the paddock, and one that has a long history of winning races and championships, Honda HRC are hoping that Vialle can hit the ground running, and use this off-season to fully prepare for the rigours of the 2026 MXGP World Championship, with 20 rounds located around the globe. Having won two MX2 titles, he will be familiar with a lot of the logistics that this series presents, but with a couple more rounds, points for qualification races, and a more diverse calendar than when he last rode in 2022, there will still be a some adapting needed if he wants to challenge at front of this competitive field straight away.

Helping him adjust to the MXGP class will be returning Ruben Fernandez, who has re-signed with Honda HRC, as he attempts to better his fourth place in 2025 World Championship and add to his win and podium tally with the team. The Spaniard showed a lot of speed and consistency last year, and alongside Vialle will provide a high-level threat on their Honda CRF450Rs.

First though for Vialle, we will see him at the Paris SX, giving him a gate-drop in front of his home crowd, allowing him to ease himself into the team dynamic, whilst his countrymen cheer him on and welcome back one of their own. Then the preparations begin for a 2026 MXGP campaign that concludes with the Motocross of Nations being held in Ernee, France – a track where Vialle won the MXON previously in 2023.

Career Highlights

  • 2025 – 3rd SuperMotocross 250 (USA)
  • 2025 – 5th AMA Pro Motocross 250 Championship
  • 2025 – 1st AMA Supercross 250 East Champion
  • 2024 – 2nd SuperMotocross 250 (USA)
  • 2024 – 2nd AMA Pro Motocross 250 Championship
  • 2024 – 1st AMA Supercross 250 East Champion
  • 2023 – 1st FIM Motocross of Nations Champion
  • 2023 – AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross and SMX debut
  • 2022 – 1st FIM MX2 Motocross World Champion
  • 2021 – 3rd FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship
  • 2020 – 1st FIM MX2 Motocross World Champion

Tom Vialle

This is obviously a big change for me, but I felt it was the right change at this point in my career. I have a lot of experience riding in the world championships, so I’ve always kept an eye on the series and how things are going over there and when I found out that Honda HRC were interested in signing me, I knew that I wasn’t going to get a better opportunity. I’ve seen what they’ve been able to achieve on the track, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about them as a team off the track, so this just seemed like the perfect time to come back to the world championship series and try to continue my previous world championship success into the MXGP class. I know it won’t be easy, and there’ll be a big learning curve to get used to the Honda CRF450R, but I’m confident in my abilities and I can’t wait to get started!

Marcus Pereira de Freitas

HRC General Manager - MXGP

I think Tom joining Honda HRC is a big statement and quite a coup for the team. He’s a double world champion in motocross and a two-time SX champion as well, so to be able to get someone as talented as he is, to join the team at this stage of his career just shows that we are doing all the right things. Of course, this will be the first time he’ll be racing on a 450cc machine, but throughout his career he’s dealt with changes and new environments, so we are all confident that he’ll be able to adapt to the Honda CRF450R. He has the Paris SX race first up, which is something new to our team, so we’ll all be learning together there, but after that it’ll be purely motocross and trying to get him ready for the 2026 MXGP World Championship.

DUCATI – A DREAM TEAM

It was announced this week, at the Milan Show, that Ducati would take a new direction with their team and start working with Louis Vosters for the 2026 season. Vosters obviously has a good record in the sport, having run the Yamaha and Fantic factory efforts in the past, but this new deal with Ducati, is something he never thought would happen, and is excited for the change.

“When Ducati approached me,” Vosters said. “I was really excited, and I was already sure, if I had the chance, I would go for it. It is like a dream come true to work with a manufacturer like Ducati. They have a real racing DNA, and they want to go for the win. That we really work together with the Ducati factory guys, straight from the factory and in really close contact with each other. The product is a year old, but its very new still and the development and improvements I think we can make in the near future really makes this a project I wanted to be part of. I have been to the Ducati factory and yes, its really impressive. You can see, all the people there are really involved. The MXGP department, it is so special. It is an old school build, and it was really nice to see. You can feel the history of that company.”

A new rider in the Ducati line-up is Calvin Vlaanderen, who moves from the Yamaha factory team to the Italian effort and like his team owner, he is excited for what is coming in 2026. Not just for being able to race for the legendary Italian brand, but also how easy his transition is to be riding the red rocket.

“It’s a dream come true,” Vlaanderen said. “It is awesome. Ducati is such an iconic brand and to sign for them, it’s really a dream come true. I will be proud to be wearing their colours and representing them. I thought I would get on and it would take some time to get comfortable with it. I thought I would be completely lost, and I had all these expectations of riding it. I thought I would have to search for comfort. I had ridden the Yamaha for a number of years, so I expected it to be very different, but I felt really good and I was surprised. After just a couple of minutes and I got off the bike with a big smile on my face.”

Vlaanderen also knows that improving this new project and making the bike even better than it was this year is a big goal and he and his team-mates, Jeremy Seewer and Andrea Bonacorsi will be working very hard in the winter to make this bike not only a possible podium bike, but a GP winner.

“There are definitely things we will need to work on. I haven’t spent that much time on the bike, and I haven’t even ridden the factory bike. I have been riding the stock bike. The next week we have some big tests, and I am just trying to get as much time on the stock bike, to get comfortable, before I get on the factory bike for testing. I cannot really say what needs to be changed. What is cool, I have a lot of experience, and I know what I like. I know riding the stock bike, there are a couple of things I am searching for. I don’t know if those issues will be better on the factory bike, or not. We just take it day by day and a bike is never perfect, and it can always improve.”

So, now with a little more than three months to prepare for what is going to be an epic Grand Prix season in 2026, Vosters, Vlaanderen, and the rest of the Ducati factory team will be doing many laps around different circuits, to make sure, when they arrive at round one of the MXGP championship, they are ready to battle the best in the world.

ANDREA ADAMO TO MAKE MXGP TRANSITION FOR 2026

Former FIM MX2 World Champion, Andrea Adamo, will embark on the next step of his impressive career progression with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing by steering the KTM 450 SX-F in the MXGP class for 2026.

The 22-year-old signed off his MX2 stint with 3rd position in the 2025 championship standings thanks to 12 podiums and four victories and was in title contention up until the penultimate round of 20. The Italian had been in the category since 2021 and with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing since 2023: that season he claimed his first Grand Prix win and went on to lift the crown. Andrea accumulated a total of 30 trophies with the KTM 250 SX-F which has become one of the most successful motorcycles in the history of the FIM Motocross World Championship and ranked 1st, 6th and 3rd in his three MX2 terms. He has signed a new multi-year agreement with the factory.

For 2026, Adamo, who is still eligible for one more MX2 campaign before he hits the 23-age ceiling, has elected to move to the MXGP division. He’ll begin testing and training with the KTM 450 SX-F from within the confines of his current crew in the coming weeks. 2026 will begin with select pre-season races and then the drive to the as-yet-unannounced first Grand Prix of the year on February 22nd.

Andrea Adamo: “I feel very excited to move to the KTM 450 SX-F. It’s a new challenge, new bike and a new style because I’ll have to adapt to the power and there no way you can ride it like a 250. It takes a lot of energy. I will have a learning curve. I’m sure I will have a good winter with the team and can put in a lot of hours on the bike to feel more and more comfortable. We can then see where we are and start to grow each GP. We need to get experience with each race and also watch the established top guys. Next year the level is going to be high, probably one of the most competitive championships for a few years. I’m not scared of the challenge, I want to embrace it. I’m confident. I saw what Lucas [Coenen] did this year and it gives extra motivation. I’m also very happy to continue with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. It was a dream three years ago to join this team and I still feel the same way: it’s so good to stay here and work with these guys because they are the best. Super-happy.”

Robert Jonas, KTM Director Offroad Racing: “We’re really pleased to be able to confirm that Andrea will boost our presence in the MXGP class next season, and we’re also happy that we’re continuing our story together after a successful impact in MX2. Andrea is a smart and hard-working racer, so he knows what lies ahead in 2026. We’re confident in the team, in our KTM SX-F machinery and, of course, our champion and GP winner Andrea Adamo onboard for next year.”

REISULIS BROTHERS TO SPEARHEAD MONSTER ENERGY YAMAHA FACTORY MX2’S 2026 CAMPAIGN

Yamaha Motor Europe is delighted to confirm its 2026 Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider lineup, with siblings Karlis and Janis Reisulis set to campaign the Factory YZ250F in the FIM MX2 World Championship.

Yamaha and the Dutch-based Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team have secured the promising Latvian talents, retaining Karlis for another season while promoting the newly-crowned EMX250 Champion Janis into the factory squad. The brothers will form a new, dynamic pairing for the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship.

Karlis remains with the team after completing his first full season in MX2 in 2025. The 20-year-old Latvian adapted well to the premier 250cc category, consistently demonstrating improved speed and racecraft while establishing himself as a regular points scorer.

Seventeen-year-old Janis continues his swift rise within the Yamaha Racing pyramid, having started with a remarkable EMX125 title aboard a GYTR-kitted YZ125 in 2023. The young Latvian secured his factory seat after claiming the 2025 EMX250 Championship crown. His impressive title campaign, which included 10 race wins, five overall victories, and seven podium finishes, showcased his exceptional potential and earned him this well-deserved opportunity to advance to MX2 with the support of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team.

Karlis Reisulis

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider

“I’m excited to be staying with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team for another year. It’s a good team. Everyone here has the same goal, and we are all working really hard to get to where we want to go. My main goal next year is to be a better version of myself, and to be consistently inside the top 10, and challenging the top five as well. I’m excited and ready to go for it!”

Janis Reisulis

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider

“Riding MX2 is a step towards making my dreams come true, and doing it with a factory team makes it even better. The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team is very professional. We are all working hard, and I know we can do some great things and surprise everyone with what my brother and I are capable of. Going into 2026, my goal is to finish every single race of the season and keep on fighting. My mentality is a bit different from that of others; my goal is always to win. I never go to a race with a different mindset. And that’s when the best results come.”

Thorsten Lentink

Yamaha Motor Europe MX Racing Specialist

“We are excited to continue with both Karlis and Janis in 2026. Karlis has shown incredible potential and growth since joining the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team halfway through the season in 2024, and he has absolutely earned this opportunity for another year. Promoting Janis was a natural step after securing both EMX titles. While having both brothers on the team is a great story, for us, it is first and foremost about talent and results. We now have two talented, motivated, and fast riders who will push each other and the entire team forward. We are proud to continue investing in their development and are confident they will form a competitive pairing for Yamaha in 2026."

DUCATI REINFORCES ITS PRESENCE IN THE 2026 MXGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PADDOCK

The official Ducati MXGP team will be run by Louis Vosters’ Dutch squad, which will enter three Desmo450 MX factory bikes.

A new chapter in Ducati's history gets underway in its second year of participation in the FIM Motocross World Championship, as it joins forces with Louis Vosters' team, ushering in a new era with the Dutch squad.

Drawing on decades of experience in the MXGP paddock, first as a sponsor and then creating his own racing team in 2015, Louis Vosters, a successful entrepreneur, has earned recognition over the years for his professionalism, managing a cohesive and competitive team that has achieved highly prestigious results. With a facility located in Bergeijk, Netherlands, close to Lommel, the true beating heart of world motocross and home of the Grand Prix of Flanders, the Dutch team will field three factory Desmo450 MX machines in the 2026 MXGP World Championship. These will be raced by 31-year-old Swiss rider Jeremy Seewer, confirmed with Ducati and twice a podium finisher in 2025, and two new factory Ducati riders, Andrea Bonacorsi and Calvin Vlaanderen.

European Champion in the EMX125 class in 2020 and the EMX250 class in 2023, Bonacorsi finished his first full MXGP season in eighth place, earning his first podium in the premier class with Vosters’ team. Andrea is one of the most promising Italian talents and managed to reach the podium in the 2023 Motocross of Nations, on his debut aboard a 450.

Vlaanderen, a 29-year-old South African-born Dutch racer, boasts a Grand Prix victory in MX2 in 2018, one in MXGP in 2022, a Dutch title in the 500 class in the same year, and a Motocross of Nations win with the Dutch team in 2019, aboard a 250.

Paolo Ciabatti, General Manager of Ducati Corse Off-Road: “We are delighted to announce this important agreement with Louis Vosters' team, undoubtedly one of the most professional in the MXGP Championship paddock. We have shared a long-term project with Louis, and we are confident that, thanks to the close collaboration between our two teams, we will soon be able to achieve the ambitious goals we have set ourselves. We are also pleased to welcome Andrea and Calvin to Ducati, who, together with Jeremy, will do their utmost to bring the Ducati name to the top in the world of motocross.”

Louis Vosters, CEO and Team Owner: “It’s truly a dream come true to start this new chapter with such an iconic brand as Ducati, leading the new Factory Team in the MXGP class. Their passion, technology, and unmistakable racing DNA perfectly align with my own vision of motocross at the highest level. This is not just a short-term project — we’ve entered a long-term collaboration built on trust, determination, and a shared desire to win. We share the same racing spirit, and together with Ducati’s technical team and our people in the paddock, I’m confident we can make great progress and fight at the front of the MXGP World Championship in the seasons ahead.”
