MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 3 October 2023 - The 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is set to take place in Ernée on 6-7-8 October and the excitement is mounting among riders, teams and every motocross fans around the world in what will be an exceptional event.

Ernée is known for its passionate and electrifying crowd, and the Raymond Demy circuit has a rich history of hosting prestigious motocross events, including memorable Motocross of Nations races in 2005 and 2015. The circuit's iconic start, surrounded by a wall of enthusiastic spectators is simply impressive while Ernée's atmosphere is renowned, characterized by tightly-packed fans encircling the track, creating an electrifying and legendary atmosphere.

The event is anticipated to draw a massive crowd, and the passionate fans will be a driving force behind the teams' performances, ensuring a spectacular off-road show. The 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is a must-see event with the world's top motocross riders which guarantee an exhilarating weekend.

In the past three editions of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, the home nations have all claimed victory with Team Netherlands achieving a historical domination in Assen in 2019, securing their first-ever win in the event. In 2021, Team Italy with legend Antonio Cairoli emerged victorious in Mantova after a closely contested battle, clinching the victory by the narrowest of margins. Finally, in 2022, Team USA ended an 11-year drought in the competition in impressive fashion, winning on their home turf at RedBud amongst a sensational atmosphere.

This weekend, Team USA is the defending Champion and historically the best nation of the competition with 23 Titles. Their line-up will be Aaron Plessinger, R.J Hampshire and Christian Craig, and will want to win the first Chamberlain Trophy by Team USA in Europe since 2011.

Team France will be the home team and one of the favourites with Romain Febvre, Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle. The three of them have been Motocross World Champion and look to be the ones to watch, especially with the large French following and supporting them at home. Febvre is on the best form of his career at the moment and loves this track as he was a flamboyant Open Individual Champion at the 2015 MXoN in Ernee. Vialle has spent his year in America, gaining a lot of experience. Renaux missed the last even of the MXGP Championship in Great Britain but it's now in full force and the team will work hard to make sure that the french star is back at his best for the MXoN.

Team Australia – One of the big favourites with the Lawrence brothers who have been incredibly successful this season in America. Jett Lawrence boasts a perfect record of 22 race wins out of 22 this season in the US and was the Open individual champion last year at the MXoN in RedBud. His brother Hunter won Pro Motocross in 250cc this season in what was a dream year for the siblings. The third rider is Dean Ferris who won the Australian MX1 Championship for the fourth time this season. Team Australia finshed third last season in RedBud but they never won the MXoN yet, they have all the quality to make it happen this year.

Team Belgium is the youngest team of the year with an average age of 19.3 years old. The strong Belgian trio will be led by Jago Geerts, Liam Everts and Lucas Coenen. Three riders that could well be the ones to lift the trophy given the great season the all experienced, which would give Belgium another MXoN title, 10 years after the last Chamberlain Trophy won in Teutschenthal in 2013.

The Spanish team will boast the newly crowned MXGP World Champion Jorge Prado into his ranks along with Grand Prix winner Ruben Fernandez and recently announced MX2 rider Oriol Oliver. They will be contender for the podium with a young yet experienced team. For Team Germany, the comeback of Ken Roczen to the MXoN after five years will be an immense boost for the team, with the lightening-quick Simon Laengenfelder who had a superb season in MX2 finishing 3rd in the Championship and Tom Koch who is completing the team in what will be an experienced line-up.

There are other teams that will definitely fight for the top spots such as Team Netherlands that is lining up the same riders as last year with Glenn Coldenhoff, Kay de Wolf and Calvin Vlaanderen. They will all come back with a point to prove following their 7th place in RedBud last year. Team Italy, who finished 4th last year in RedBud will be another strong challenger with Alberto Forato who finished 7th in the MXGP Championship, the newly crowned MX2 World Champion Andrea Adamo and EMX250 European Champion Andrea Bonacorsi.

Besides the obvious favourites for the might trophy, there are other team that could play the troublemakers and produce some exploits such as Team Latvia composed of the Reisulis Brothers, Janis and Karlis and led by Pauls Jonass who has signed his return to the top in MXGP last month. Not to forget Team Switzerland who is going to play on their massive experience to clinch a resutl with the five-time Vice Motocross World Champion Jeremy Seewer, Arnaud Tonus and Valentin Guillod.

The 76th edition of the event will see the huge participation of 38 teams, including the special team representing FIM Latin America, and other teams coming from different continents such as Rep of South Africa, Chile, Guam, Puerto Rico, Morocco and Brazil. Expect an event that promises to be larger and more spectacular than ever before, with an exceptionally competitive roster that is adding an element of unpredictability to the final podium!

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 2 October 2023 – Closing the MXGP season, the 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is arriving in Ernée, France, next weekend.

This 76th edition will once again be an opportunity to see the top three riders from each country battle it out in the MXGP, MX2 and MX Open classes. The recent Motocross World Champions, Andrea Adamo in MX2, andJorge Prado in MXGP, will of course be present, respectively alongside their Italian and Spanish compatriots. They will have a lot to face against, especially with the Australian team of the Lawrence brothers and Dean Ferris, or the defending champions Team USA, made up of RJ Hampshire, Christian Craig and Aaron Plessinger. However, this Monster Energy FIM MXoN winner could just as easily come from the Old Continent, with the French team at home constituted of the talented Romain Febvre, Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle.

We cannot forget Team Germany with the comeback of Ken Roczen to the MXoN after his last participation in 2018 at RedBud. The fans’ favourite will be competing with the lightning-quick Simon Laengenfelder and the experienced Tom Koch to give the German team a great chance of podium.

The most exciting event of the year will be seeing a major French media coverage this weekend, with La Chaîne L’Équipe that will dedicate its whole Sunday afternoon to the MXoN, and Automoto TV La Chaîne on site from Friday, to provide live coverage from the event. As expected, the biggest off-road event will again be significantly broadcasted worldwide, both LIVE and Delayed for the greater enjoyment of motocross fans around the world.

During the last test of the MX2 World Championship, David Braceras suffered a fall and was injured. Not being 100% recovered, the national coach, Paco Rico, has decided that the man from Alicante will be replaced by Oriol Oliver who thus joins Rubén Fernández and the brand-new MXGP champion, Jorge Prado.

In the following statements, Rico explains the reason for this decision in addition to putting Prado in MXOpen and Fernández in MXGP, always thinking about the good for the team.

Paco Rico, national coach: "It is evident that there are situations that only the riders, teams and the coaching staff know. The case of Rubén Fernández was that he suffered from problems after the very hard fall of Finland which prevented him from training and, although he had the speed, he did not have the physique to make 2 races in a row as required by the OPEN category in the ‘Monster Energy FIM MX of the Nations’. This is why we talked with him and Jorge (Prado) to exchange the categories thinking about the best for the team and protecting Fernández so that he had more recovery time between races. The pilots are very involved in achieving a team success representing Spain and did not put any inconvenience, supporting each other.

As for David Braceras, after the fall of England and although they declared him fit to run right there, following the advice of our trusted medical staff they told him that running could put participation in Ernée at risk if there is something muscular. Braceras did not lose a minute and flew directly to Madrid where all possible tests were performed and a small rupture in the triceps was detected.

We continue to have a team of the same level with good expectations with the incorporation of Oriol Oliver, the visible physical improvement of Ruben Fernández who has managed to finish 5º in MXGP and, of course, the current MXGP world champion, Jorge Prado."

Along with this incredible novelty, the usual 3-Day Programme of the 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations will open on Friday 6th October where the excitements will kick off with the Opening Press Conference as we officially launch the 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at 11:00, followed by the Ballot at 12:00, where starting positions for the weekend's races will be determined. A pivotal moment for all teams and riders.

Join us at 14:00 for the Teams Press Conference as riders and team representatives reveal their goals and expectations for the MXoN followed by the famous Team Presentation Parade at 16:40, which is open to all fans and sees an explosion of flags, cheers and joy. 

The Saturday 7th October will continue the party with the bLU cRU 65 and 85 races respectively at 13:40 and17:15 where young talents take the centre stage with thrilling races. The track action intensifies as riders compete for prime positions in the main races with the Qualifying Heats in each class as follows: MXGP Qualifying Heat 14:20, MX2 Qualifying Heat 15:20, Open Qualifying Heat 16:20. 

Sunday 8th October, the Grand Finale! The bLU cRU 125 begin the day at 09:15 as the future stars showcase their skills, setting the stage for an action-packed day.

The event will climax with the best of the best who will battle it out for supremacy and the coveted Chamberlain Trophy. The main races on Sunday will be aired as follows: Race 1 (MXGP+MX2) at 13:00, Race 2 (MX2+Open) at 14:30, Race 3 (Open +MX2) at 16:00.

The Americans are coming, and the 2023 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is that much better because of it. Aaron Plessinger, Christian Craig and R. J. Hampshire have put their hands up to represent Team USA and the sports wins when you get three AMA riders wanting to race for their country at the MXoN.

Veteran Christian Craig, who races for the Husqvarna Factory and has been a solid performer throughout his career has always wanted to line-up for his country.

“I know it's easy to say that this isn't the best group to send,” Craig said. “But that's just more motivation for us to get over there and do it. Came out to California to test with the Husqvarna team and then got sat down and asked if I wanted to do the MXoN. I'm excited. I think I'll be more than ready for this. By the time this race comes, I'll have close to eight weeks on the bike. So that's plenty of riding, especially with the boys. This is obviously a prestigious race. It's a race that I've watched every year since I was a little kid and I wanted to be a part of it. So, yeah, this is crazy. But I'm up for this challenge."

Team captain Aaron Plessinger has ridden for his country before, in the 2018 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at the RedBud circuit, but things didn’t go to plan that year. He is more than ready to improve on these results and help Team USA climbing onto the podium.

“I've been waiting for this moment since I got to do it in 2018,” Plessinger said. “I need some redemption. 2018 wasn't really good for us. We had some struggles but we get redemption now. I'm going to be wrapped in the #1, baby. I'm really ready to go. It's in France and it will be my first time out of North America. I’ve got two great teammates alongside of me and I think they're just as pumped up as I am.We all work very well together. We train together, ride together, so I think we're going to be ready and a force to be reckoned with.”

Team USA’s MX2 rider R. J. Hampshire has experience against the best 250 riders in the World and back in 2017 raced to victory in the USGP at the W Ranch and while that is six years ago now, Hampshire is still one of the top MX2 riders in America and will without a doubt be looking to win the MX2 overall in France.

“Just getting to represent our country," Hampshire said. "Man, I am excited for it. I was really close to going racing on the 450cc (in the 2021 MXoN) out there which I was really stoked on. Don't get me wrong. I'm still so stoked to race it at all. But yeah man, I am just excited. I get to go over there and make a trip out of it with the family, and you know, we got three guys that are going to give it our best shot and put in our best effort. I had a full 450 setup there built, ready to go. I was going to start riding it this week. I know what I have with the 250cc the setting and it’s ready to go. So that's one good thing to it. But I'm excited about this team, our bosses, our manufacturers support in the race because if it wasn't for that, there would be no Team USA. That's just what it comes down to is these guys, they see how much it means to us and the sport. I've been watching quite a bit of video, and I mean, it's a hard packed track. We’ll be ready and that's about it. That's really all we can do. We don't really have much of a track kind of similar to that, especially in Florida. So, yeah, just go there, don't get too spun out, and stick to the plan.”

Now the three American riders will jump on the flight to France in less than a week and be putting all their ducks in a row and hope to at the very least finish on the podium, but they will also be looking at defending the Chamberlain trophy and taking that historical piece of silverware back to America with them.

Following medical tests carried out on Tuesday 26 September, Mattia Guadagnini's muscle problem in his right calf was confirmed which prevented him from racing in the MXGP in Great Britain. The young Venetian rider, already winner of the 2021 Motocross of Nations with Tony Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino, will have to remain at rest and will not be able to participate in the 2023 edition of the Trophy, scheduled for Ernée (France) on 7 and 8 October.
 
FMI Technical Commissioner Thomas Traversini has selected Andrea Bonacorsi, the reigning EMX250 European Champion, as his replacement. Born in Bergamo on 23 April 2003, he will defend the blue colors riding the Yamaha of the Hutten Metaal Team. He will race in the Open class on a 450cc.
 
The Italian lineup will therefore be composed of Alberto Forato (MXGP), Andrea Adamo (MX2), Andrea Bonacorsi (MX Open).
 
Thomas Traversini, FMI Technical Commissioner: “We are really sorry for Mattia, a boy who has always shown a strong attachment to the Maglia Azzurra, as demonstrated by his results at the Motocross of Nations and beyond. At the same time we will be able to rely on the enthusiasm of Bonacorsi, who will have to face this experience without pressure but with the awareness of being up to par with the other riders on the track, as seen in the last round of the MX2 World Championship at Matterley Basin. We will have a team equal to the best, young and full of motivation to do well."
