Febvre and Anstie lead the way in Loket

LOKET (Czech Republic), 25 July 2015 – Overnight storms made for better than expected conditions today at the hilly clay track of Loket. The angry wind that howled in and around the venue was ridiculously strong, as were the performances of Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre & Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie who blew away their competition to start tomorrow on pole here at the thirteenth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

Meanwhile Holland’s Nancy Van De Ven has got off to an amazing start here at the sixth and final round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship after winning race one ahead of the main title contenders Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot and Yamaha MXFontaracing’s Kiara Fontanesi, who both made mistakes on the opening lap. Lancelot will have a four-point advantage heading into the final race tomorrow.

In the European Championship EMX300, GL12 Yamaha Racing’s wildcard Brad Anderson carved his way from outside the top five for the win ahead of fellow Brit Matt Moffat and the championship leader Marco Maddii.

Another super slick and edgy hard pack track was once again Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre’s paradise as he dominated the MXGP qualifying heat for his second pole position of the season.

When the gates dropped it was Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP’s Clement Desalle who got the jump but slid into the first turn, lost his balance and handed the holeshot to the previous MXGP round winner Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Glenn Coldenhoff. Coldenhoff was looking exceptionally comfortable out here considering he is known for his sand ability. The Dutchman lost the lead to Febvre on the opening lap when he left the door open at the bottom of the circuit and then was dropped back to third after Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin set him up a couple of turns after pit lane.

Paulin rode strong and steady for a comfortable second place while Coldenhoff managed to hold on for third. Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM’s Shaun Simpson pulled off some great passes today with his moves on the factory riders, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tommy Searle and Desalle. Searle rounded out the top five while a rusty Desalle was dropped back to seventh after his blistering fast countryman Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Jeremy Van Horebeek fought his way from the back of the pack to sixth.

MXGP Qualifying Race Top Ten: 1. Romain Febvre (FRA, Yamaha), 23:42.613; 2. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Honda), +0:11.060; 3. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, Suzuki), +0:18.860; 4. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), +0:21.415; 5. Tommy Searle (GBR, KTM), +0:22.695; 6. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +0:23.779; 7. Clement Desalle (BEL, Suzuki), +0:25.156; 8. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, Honda), +0:27.871; 9. Kevin Strijbos (BEL, Suzuki), +0:29.837; 10. Todd Waters (AUS, Husqvarna), +0:31.278.

Loket was the scene of one of the most eventful MX2 qualifying races of the season. HSF Logistics Motosport Team’s Roberts Justs timed the gate perfectly and was half a bike length out before he popped a wheelie which slowed him down enough to let Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s young rookie Davy Pootjes take the holeshot.

Pootjes led the way past pit lane on the first lap before being passed by another surprise front-runner TM Racing Factory Team’s Samuele Bernardini. Bernardini, being Italian, obviously loves the hard and slick surfaces and pulled a gap right away. While the TM rider put in one of his best performances, he didn’t have anything on the speed of Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie who is absolutely hauling at the moment.

Anstie took the lead on lap three and stamped his authority on the MX2 class for the fourth consecutive time. Meanwhile, Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Valentin Guillod mentioned he was happy to be back on the hard packed surface and it showed as the super stylish Swiss rider carved his way from outside the top fifteen, up to sixth, then crashed and still managed to bounce back for second.

Rounding out the top three was Kemea Yamaha Yamalube’s Benoit Paturel who is constantly on the improve and landed his best qualifying race finish of the season. Meanwhile, there was no room to breathe in the battle for fourth as three of the quickest riders in MX2, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass, Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Jeremy Seewer and Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser went bar to bar.

All three riders were cutting the same lap times which left them using mistakes as opportunities to pass. Fortunately Jonass was able to minimize his errors in the closing stages of the race and managed to hold on to fourth ahead of Seewer and Gajser.

In darker news, bad luck has struck the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and Jeffrey Herlings once again. The Bullet was landed on by another rider after he clipped a bank and crashed. He was ambulanced away with a suspected dislocated hip.

MX2 Qualifying Race Top Ten: 1. Max Anstie (GBR, Kawasaki), 24:08.359; 2. Valentin Guillod (SUI, Yamaha), +0:06.265; 3. Benoit Paturel (FRA, Yamaha), +0:10.783; 4. Petar Petrov (BUL, Kawasaki), +0:18.606; 9. Roberts Justs (LAT, KTM), +0:19.584; 10. Brian Bogers (NED, KTM), +0:19.983

MXGP looks to Loket

LOKET (Czech Republic), 22 July 2015 - This weekend the thirteenth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will take place at the beloved old-school style circuit of Loket in the Czech Republic. Even this far into the season, picking a box topper is next to impossible. In MX2 we can expect to see the return of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings, although it is hard to say how his finger will hold up, while in MXGP devastating news has broken that Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli will sit this one out due to the injury he has sustained to his elbow.

On a brighter note, the FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion will be crowned this weekend in what is certain to be a battle to the finish between Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot and Yamaha FontaMX Racing’s Kiara Fontanesi. At the moment, the 2008 WMX World Champion, Lancelot, leads the defending three-time world champion, Fontanesi, by a minuscule two points.

The fifth round of the European Championship EMX300 will also take place this weekend, as will the fourth round of the Honda European Championship EMX150.

If any of the most recent rounds of MXGP are anything to go by, Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s rookie Romain Febvre will be the solid bet for this weekend, especially with the track being that super slick and marble like clay he excels on. This weekend will be the number 461’s fourth outing with the coveted red plate.

Another rookie who is starting to turn heads is Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Glenn Coldenhoff. Coldenhoff suffered from a few minor set backs at the beginning of the season with a couple of broken toes making life a little harder than it needed to be. Nevertheless, the Dutchman is coming into his own, which he proved at the last round of MXGP in Latvia when he took his maiden MXGP overall.

Consistency was the goal for Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin this year, and it is one that seems to be going to plan as he goes into Loket only twenty-five points shy of Tony Cairoli, who is currently second in the championship. With Tony not racing, Paulin should move into second at the end of this weekend so his main mission will be to try and close the gap on fellow Frenchman, and championship leader, Romain Febvre.

Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Jeremy Van Horebeek took his first and only MXGP overall victory here in Loket last year, which should put him in good spirits for this weekend.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP’s Kevin Strijbos is well overdue a MXGP win. The Belgian was runner-up last year and is showing good form at the moment. This could be his weekend.

MXGP Championship Top Ten: 1. Romain Febvre (FRA, YAM), 419 points; 2. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 380 p.; 3. Maximilian Nagl (GER, HUS), 360 p.; 4. Gautier Paulin (FRA, HON), 351 p.; 5. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, HON), 319 p.; 6. Clement Desalle (BEL, SUZ), 291 p.; 7. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), 257 p.; 8. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, YAM), 232 p.; 9. Todd Waters (AUS, HUS), 224 p.; 10. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, SUZ), 196 p.

Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie was absolutely untouchable at the last round of MX2 in Latvia. Although Loket is an entirely different track and compound to Kegums, Max has shown he’s got just as much skill on the hard pack with his impressive performance in the second race at the MXGP of Germany in Teutschenthal. If the Brit brings that same confidence and intensity he demonstrated in Latvia, there is no doubt he is in with a shot at the overall.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass has been on the podium three times this year. While it is said that the Latvian prefers the softer terrain, he knows that to be a champion he needs to be well rounded, so he will give it all he’s got this weekend.

As for the dark horse, Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Harri Kullas, now is the time to back his surprise podium performance up.

Meanwhile Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Jeremy Seewer is always there lurking around the podium while his fellow Swiss Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Valentin Guillod will be pumped to be back on the hard pack and in his comfort zone.

Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser is also a bit of a hard pack specialist and will be a threat this weekend, as will Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jordi Tixier who took his first ever MX2 overall victory here last year.

MX2 Championship Top Ten: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 423 points; 2. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 345 p.; 3. Valentin Guillod (SUI, YAM), 335 p.; 4. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, SUZ), 311 p.; 5. Pauls Jonass (LAT, KTM), 307 p.; 6. Jordi Tixier (FRA, KAW), 306 p.; 7. Max Anstie (GBR, KAW), 262 p.; 8. Julien Lieber (BEL, YAM), 259 p.; 9. Aleksandr Tonkov (RUS, HUS), 256 p.; 10. Dylan Ferrandis (FRA, KAW), 205 p.

Provisional 2016 Calendar

Pure perfection for Fontanesi

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany), 21 June 2015 - Forty-one of the worlds fastest female motocross riders lined up this weekend in Teutschenthal, Germany for the fifth round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship. In what appeared to be perfect conditions with light bouts of rain moistening the classic rock hard clay of ‘Talkessel’ Yamaha FontaMXracing’s Kiara Fontanesi put in two perfect performances for her third WMX round victory of the season.

When the gates dropped for race two earlier today it was a fresh faced Dutch girl Britt Van Der Werff who took the holeshot ahead of the usual culprit Nancy Van De Ven. Van Der Werff put in a solid couple of laps up front before coming under attack from the duo in the thick of the championship fight Yamaha MXFontaracing’s Kiara Fontanesi and Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot, who both didn’t waste anytime in pushing past.

As you would expect, Fontanesi and Lancelot engaged in a heated battle for the lead. Lancelot threw everything she could at the defending champion but in the end it wasn’t enough. Fontanesi weathered the storm and banked a perfect 50 points this weekend. “I really wanted to win today” Fontanesi said, “I pushed really hard. I wasn’t smooth like I was yesterday but in the end I went 1 – 1 so that’s perfect!”

Lancelot was forced to be content with two seconds for second place, which was enough for the French star to retain the red plate. Meanwhile the local lady and former WMX hero Steffi Laier flew the flag high for Germany with a third place finish after working her way around Van De Ven late in the race. Van De Ven wrapped up fourth while Australian Madison Brown rounded out the top five.

Two fantastic races left the overall identical to the results of race two. Fontanesi stood top of the box with Lancelot and Laier rounding out the top three. With Fontanesi stealing six points from Lancelot here in Germany, the championship is sure to go down to the wire with only two points now separating them as they head into the final round.

Fontanesi tops the frantic WMX round of France

VILLARS SOUS ECOT (France), 31 May 2015 – The 2015 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship has never been as intense as it is this year. At the start of the season, the 2014 WMX vice world champion Bud Racing Kawasaki Monster Energy’s Meghan Rutledge shattered her thumb while training back in Australia, while at the last round in Matterley Basin, England, the defending champion Yamaha MXFontaracing’s Kiara Fontanesi was lucky to walk away unscathed from a massive crash in race one.

This weekend in Villars sous Ecot, France, for the fourth round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, it was the home soil heroine Livia Lancelot who was dealt a bad hand while the three times FIM WMX World Champion Kiara Fontanesi put in a flawless performance to claim her second victory of the season.

Another shocking start for the race one winner Livia Lancelot left the defending champ Kiara Fontanesi in the drivers seat for the second time this weekend. While in the first race Lancelot put in a hair raising performance to chop down Fontanesi’s lead despite hovering around twentieth at turn one, to take the win at the checkers, it wasn’t that clean cut and easy this time around.

Motocross Marketing KTM Silver Action KTM’s Amadine Verstappen took an outstanding holeshot but after making a few mistakes was passed by the little Dutch wonder Nancy Van de Ven and the Italian Suzuki rider Francesca Nocera. Both Nocera and Van de Ven were relentless in their battle for second. With a handful of laps to go, Lancelot had crept up on the scrapping duo of Van de Ven and Nocera to make it a three horse race. This invited the boisterous French fans to the party as they went wild for their motocross-racing sweetheart Livia Lancelot.

While the race was compelling, it ended dramatically with Nocera crashing spectacularly leaving Lancelot with nowhere else to go but right over top of her, which threw the 114 over the handlebars too.  Nocera ended up going directly to the medical center where we will await news of her injuries while Lancelot managed to remount and finish the race in sixteenth.

With Lancelot and Nocera crashing out of third, Australian Madison Brown took over the position to bank her strongest result of the season while Verstappen held off MVR-D Honda’s Natalie Kane for fourth.

After a crazy weekend here in France, Kiara Fontanesi stood top of the box for the second time this year, ahead of Nancy Van de Ven and Madison Brown.

Livia Lancelot still leads the WMX championship by eight points with the next round set to take place in Teutschenthal, Germany on the weekend of June 21.

WMX Race 1 Top Ten: 1. Livia Lancelot (FRA, Kawasaki), 25:14.448; 2. Kiara Fontanesi (ITA, Yamaha), +0:00.166; 3. Nancy Van De Ven (NED, Yamaha), +0:47.184; 4.
