Duncan Conquers WMX Round of Portugal

AGUEDA (Portugal) 15 April 2018 - The Portuguese Round of the FIM Women’s Motocross Championship is complete with Altherm JCR Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan claiming the WMX victory! This weekend’s FIM Women’s Motocross Championship was played out over 2 days on changing conditions from a rutted and technical track Saturday to a soft and tricky surface Sunday.

Race 1 was in perfect for Altherm JCR Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan, after taking the fastest lap of time practice she carried her speed forward taking the lead off of the start and never looking back. Behind Duncan was Nancy van de Ven every lap of 11 total.

Last week’s overall winner and red plate holder coming into the weekend was Larissa Papenmeier who started 3rd but was then passed by the 2017 champion, MXFONTA RACING Yamaha’s Kiara Fontanesi, on lap 2. Only 1 lap after passing Papenmeier the #8 crashed and dropped back to eleventh position.

Papenmeier ended up retaking third after Fontanesi’s fall and KTM Silver Action’s Amandine Verstappen moved to 4th. At the finish of Race 1 Duncan beat van de Ven by 13.9 seconds as Papenmeier took 3rd, Verstappen 4th, and Fontanesi recovered to 7th.

In Race 2 Larissa Papenmeier shot into the lead ahead of Fontanesi, Duncan, Shana van der Vlist, and van de Ven. After the first official lap Duncan made it past Fontanesi for second and van de Ven found her way around van der Vlist.

As van de Ven started to chase down Fontanesi, Duncan had her eyes set on the lead of Papenmeier. On the fifth lap of the ten completed Duncan made a pass stick for first position, nevertheless Papenmeier continued to charge and keep pressure on Duncan who kept nervously looking back.

On the final laps Duncan managed to regain a gap over Papenmeier and the rest crossing the line 8.7 seconds ahead of second. Duncan’s double race wins not only gave her the overall but also the championship leaders red plate.

Papenmeier’s 3-2 finishes secured her second over van de Ven’s 2-4, the struggling Kiara Fontanesi redeemed her Race 1 finish of 7th with 3rd in Race 2 for 4th overall, while Verstappen rounded out the top five. The top five finisher’s championship position is now identical to their overall finish today.

WMX World Champ Lancelot back in the fold

Ahead of what promises to be a scorching 2017 FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, reigning number one and chief ‘target’ for the forthcoming six-round campaign Livia Lancelot is back in familiar colours. The Kawasaki ace is one again sporting the Monster Energy ‘claw’ in what will be a hotly contested season with Kiara Fontanesi, Courtney Duncan and Nancy Van de Ven – all Grand Prix winners in 2016 – hunting the coveted top spot at the peak of women’s motorcycle racing.

Three of the last five WMX world championships have been decided at the final round with the speed and skills of the elite at the front of the Grand Prix pack evenly matched. After 2015 heartbreak when Lancelot was unable to start the last race in the Czech Republic due to a technical problem as leader of the standings and subsequently lost the title to Fontanesi, the Frenchwomen fired back to bury those demons in 2016 and grasp her second crown.

From the confines of her own team and with backing of long-time partner Kawasaki, Lancelot – 29 this weekend and the eldest and most experienced of her peer sect - is primed for the challenge that will involve trips to Indonesia, Italy, France (twice), Czech Republic and Holland to coincide with MXGP Grands Prix.

“I’m pretty happy because the winter went well with no injuries or anything crazy going on,” she said. “It has been quiet, and I’ve been able to get some good physical training done. Kawasaki also have a brand new KX250F which has meant a different frame and engine to work on and get used to. So we have spent many hours testing and working out information that we didn't really have before. I tried my GP race bike only a few days ago and I’m really happy with what we have.”

Lancelot will face four-times WMX Champ Fontanesi (now back on Yamaha with whom she scooped all of her medals) and newcomer Courtney Duncan who was the pace-setter since winning on her GP debut in Qatar last year and until her untimely injury and crash in Germany that ruled her out of the chase. Van de Ven was Lancelot’s closest pursuer before ‘Livi’ put her name in the record books at the damp Dutch Grand Prix last summer.

“This season will be like a war! There are four girls who are going for that title and I think it will be amazing to watch,” #114 said. “I’m really excited but – honestly – I’m not stressed or nervous about the situation. I’m the oldest of the group and I have achieved what I wanted to with my career so anything else feels like a bonus.”

“I have worked so hard this winter – just as much, if not more, than any other season – but I don't have the anxiety that I ‘need’ this title,” she continued. “I want to go out and have fun and race and I won’t be the one thinking ‘I must win this because I missed out before’.”

A relaxed Lancelot – one of the most stylish riders in the series – could be ominous for her rivals. The fact that she is now part of the Monster Energy flock again has also added extra feel-good factor. “It is good to be back. All the top Kawasaki riders have that association with Monster,” she offered. ‘I have partnerships with all the top brands like Kawasaki and Fox and being in the Monster family again means one of the biggest in motorsport. I love what they can do for my image, I know everyone there and it just feels good to have those colours again.”

WMX cranks into life with round two of MXGP at the new circuit in Pangkal Pinang and Grand Prix’s first visit to Indonesia this century on March 5th.

Duncan wins the battle, Lancelot wins the war

ASSEN (The Netherlands), 29 August 2016 - The final round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship took place this weekend at the historic Dutch TT Circuit, Assen, The Netherlands, where JCR Altherm Racing Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan validated her label as ‘the next big thing’, with yet another impressive round win, her third of the season.

What better way to wrap up a season than with a mudder, and not just any old mudder, we’re talking quicksand, sea-deep ruts that ate more than 30 seconds out of their lap-times. No kidding, the fastest lap in Race 1, which took place in vastly different conditions yesterday, was 1:46.814 by Courtney Duncan, while in Race 2, it was again Courtney Duncan but with a lap time of 2:23.441. The conditions were so brutal, Duncan and the local ace, Nancy Van de Ven lapped all the way up to third!

After dominating race one, JCR Altherm Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan proved just how widespread her skills are today with yet another outstanding performance. The Kiwi Girl has arguably the shortest legs in motocross, which makes mistakes extra costly with the ground being so far away. After leading the entire race and stretching out a 26 second lead, the New Zealander got pitched in the waves and went off the track. “I’m so gutted,” she said, “I had a lead of like 30 seconds, but I crashed and then went off the track and because it’s been built up, it was hard to get back on.”

With an enormous roar from the crowd, Nancy Van de Ven took the lead with two laps to go. The Dutch sensation managed to ride it home despite a hard charge in the eleventh hour by Duncan.  Van de Ven’s win was something special as it set off a wild celebration in the grand stand that made your hair stand on end.

There was no real shock to see the new world champion Livia Lancelot take no risk on her way to third place, while it was a bit of a shock to see the recently dethroned world champion, and one of the most successful female motocross riders in the world, MXFontaracing Syneco Honda’s Kiara Fontanesi, on the deck.

With mud being the great equalizer, Holland’s own Nicky Van Wordragen mastered the gnarly terrain to finish fourth ahead of Germany’s Kim Immgartz who also put in the ride of her life for fifth.

JCR Altherm Yamaha’s Courtney Duncan topped the box here in The Netherlands while Nancy Van de Ven had the Dutch flag raised above the second step. The newly crowned world champion, Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot kept her perfect podium streak alive by finishing third overall.

As for the championship, Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot landed on the box at all seven rounds this season, with one round win, for the 2016 WMX world title, “I was almost thinking that I will never win a world championship again, but I managed to do it, so now I’m world champion, and happy”, she said. Nancy Van de Ven made the podium six times with two rounds wins for second overall, while the 2009 vice-world champion, Larissa Papenmeier, made one podium appearance but was consistently knocking on the door of the top three, and finished third overall this season.

WMX Race 1 Top Ten: 1. Courtney Duncan (NZL, Yamaha), 25:12.799; 2. Kiara Fontanesi (ITA, Honda), +0:35.668; 3. Larissa Papenmeier (GER, Suzuki), +0:52.764; 4. ASSEN (The Netherlands), 26 August 2016 – MXGP will return to action this weekend, with the sixteenth round of eighteen taking place at the Dutch TT Circuit, in Assen, The Netherlands, where the Flying Dutchman, Jeffrey Herlings, will be back on the line in MX2, which is bound to create an insane atmosphere in the grandstands.

Tim Gajser’s Slovenian following will also be on edge this weekend with the possibility that their nineteen-year-old rookie will be able to wrap up the title in the premier class, MXGP. How close is it? It’s a two horse race this weekend. If Antonio Cairoli finishes with equal, or more, points than Gajser, the title will not be won. Gajser needs to finish in front of Cairoli for it to be won this weekend.

So how can you watch? Check the guides below to find out where you can watch the MXGP of The Netherlands, otherwise, tune into www.mxgp-tv.com where you can SAVE 70% on a season pass, which will give you access to watch both days of the FIM Motocross World Championships and the European Championships, Saturday and Sunday, LIVE and OnDemand.
