PRADO COMMITS HIS FUTURE TO RED BULL KTM AND MXGP WITH NEW CONTRACT

MX2 World Champion Jorge Prado will remain a Red Bull KTM rider and part of the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship for the next four years, until 2023, after signing a contract extension at the Grand Prix of Germany last weekend.

The eighteen-year old Spaniard is acknowledged as one of the hottest talents on the international motocross scene. He made his debut in Grand Prix in 2016 and scored a podium finish at Assen in the Netherlands at his first full attempt. Prado toasted his maiden victory in Italy a few months later in his rookie MX2 term with the KTM 250 SX-F and then memorably duelled with then-teammate Pauls Jonass to win the 2018 FIM World Championship in his second season.

After the German fixture last weekend Prado is currently unbeaten in the nine rounds of ten he has contested in 2019 and had 14 holeshots. He leads the standings by 44 points in what has so far been a comprehensive title defence. If the Galician claims back-to-back titles he will be the third Red Bull KTM rider to do so in the last ten years, joining Marvin Musquin (2009-2010) and Jeffrey Herlings (2012-2013). Prado will also need to join the MXGP class and teammates Tony Cairoli and Herlings for 2020.

Jorge Prado: “KTM have supported me since I started racing and winning my first world title in the 65s. They offered me a great opportunity for MXGP because if I win this year then I’ll need to be on a 450 and so this all came together very easily. I’m very happy to stay another four years and we’re both excited about it. Since I joined this team and worked with Claudio [De Carli] I’ve really felt that my place was to stay here and learn. He has a lot of experience and I’m sure we’ll make a good pass to the 450s. I have a great team behind me and it is difficult to find a better place than where I am right now.”

Claudio De Carli, Red Bull KTM MXGP Team Manager: “In our sport we can never take anything taken for granted, so it is always satisfying when renewals like this happen and we can continue our journey. It is the sign that we are working in the right direction and the continuity in relationships means that the group is solid and close-knit. With Jorge I have had again the chance to help a young rider, which has always been one of my priorities, and I thank KTM for this. In the last two years I can only say that with Jorge we have always worked with the utmost commitment and with a smile, even in difficult times. He is a fantastic boy that deserves all his success.”

Robert Jonas, VP of Offroad: “Jorge has been a KTM rider from the beginning and it has been special and rewarding to watch him develop so fast to reach the top of the sport. Full credit must go to Claudio and Davide De Carli, Tony Cairoli and the crew inside the team for the way they have mentored Jorge and helped him unlock that final touch needed to bring the results we all knew he was capable of. Making this new contract was pretty easy because it was something both of us really wanted to happen and we’re excited to see what he can do next.”

Rubini and Guyon Take Top Step in EMX

Teutschenthal (Germany) 23 June 2019 – The circuit of Teutschenthal hosted the round of EMX Championships EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing. Through the 2 days of racing where the Summer heat ups the Talkessel circuit it was Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini and Team VRT’s Tom Guyon who proved to be the most prepared to challenge the technical German track.

F&H Racing Kawasaki’s Roan Van De Moosdijk came out of the first lap with the lead in the EMX250 opening race and held that position for 12 laps before second placed Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini closed up and passed the Dutchman on lap 13 and took the win. Van De Moosdijk finished second while Team Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Alberto Forato finished third.

Behind the trio Team DIGA-Procross Husqvarna’s Jeremy Sydow, Steelsdrjack’s Nicholas Lapucci and Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC’s Thibault Benistant were battling for 4th.

Alberto Forato was the man on the move in race 1 trying to close on Rubini for the lead but he crashed without loosing any position but a bunch of seconds. He then managed to gain ground to the top 2 riders but could not find any way past Rubini, who instead managed to gain the first position at 3 laps to go and win his third race of the season.

In the second race Van De Moosdijk led the first two laps before Rubini took over and controlled the race from up front. Forato came from fifth position on lap one to move into fourth on lap two and then third on lap three, a place he would remain for the rest of the race.

Rubini was stunning, winning just ahead of Van De Moosdijk, with Forato some 38 seconds back in third followed by Sydow and KTM Junior Racing’s Rene Hofer.

Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini has once again shown his hard pack skills with a stunning 1-1 result to win the EMX250 overall in Germany. F&H Racing Kawasaki’s Roan Van De Moosdijk finished second overall with 2-2 scores and third was Team Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Alberto Forato, who finished with 2-2 results.

In the championship points, it is Rubini who took the Red Plate with 251pts, followed by Alberto Forato with 241pts and Roan Van De Moosdijk with 238pts.

In the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing opener it was Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Mattia Guadagnini who took the lead on lap one and rode brilliantly up front the whole, with KINI KTM Junior Pro Team’s Mike Gwerder and Yamaha Europe EMX125 MJC’s Florian Miot behind.

On lap four Guyon moved into third place when he passed WZ-Racing’s Simon Laengenfelder, and then into second place after passing Gwerder on lap nine.

Coming from six on lap one to move into second on lap eight was an amazing effort from the French rider. Eventually it was Maddii Racing Husqvarna rider Mattia Guadagini who took the win on Guyon and Gwerder controlling the whole race from up front

In the second EMX125 presented by FMF Racing race it was Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay De Wolf who led into the opening lap, behind him came Laengenfelder, Guyon, A1MHusqvarna’s Jorgen-Matthias Talviku and Gwerder. De Wolf maintained the lead as positions up front remained the same while Liam Everts had an excellent path in sixth position.

On lap nine De Wolf was getting some pressure and after holding a four second lead early, Laengenfelder was just a little more than a second behind and started putting pressure on the Dutch rider followed by Guyon, Talviku and Gwerder while Everts was still in sixth place.

De Wolf slipped over in a corner and Laengenfelder and Guyon both went past, then De Wolf struggles to start his bike and dropped way back and out of the top five.

Impressive ride by Guyon who took advantage and he started closing up on Laengenfelder for the race win, he eventually succeeded in the final lap in a sensational race win and the overall victory.

The Frenchman Tom Guyon from Team VRT won to his French victory a month ago. With 2-1 results he was too strong for local rider Simon Laengenfelder who finished second overall with 4-2 and third overall was KINI KTM Junior Pro Team’s Mike Gwerder with 3-3.

Maddii Racing Husqvarna rider Mattia Guadagnini who still leads the series points, finished 13th in second race due to a bad start and a bike issue which made him loose a bunch of positions. He managed anyway to finish the race rounding up the Top 4.

Gajser & Prado Victorious in Teutschenthal

Teutschenthal (Germany) 23 June 2019 – The MXGP of Germany saw some of the brightest actions from the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship where Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado were dominant in front of thousands of German fans who were cheering from the German hillsides.

The Talkessel circuit has been on the FIM Motocross World Championship calendar since 1971 and always provides the perfect conditions and atmosphere for a ‘one to remember’ racing weekend.

Around a very rough Talkessel circuit, Team HRC rider Tim Gajser isn’t slowing up as he moves a little closer to a third motocross world championship title. In the opening MXGP race Gajser took the FOX Holeshot and continued his lead from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Seewer, Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Julien Lieber, Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha’s Arnaud Tonus and Gautier Paulin. After a lap the Slovenian was already leading with four seconds advantge.

Gajser was clocking big lap times as he was five seconds ahead of Seewer on lap two, when the Slovenian crashed and suddenly Seewer was right on him. While going to pass the HRC rider the two collided and Gajser kept his lead. Gajser might have gone down, but he quickly made up a four seconds lead on Seewer. The two Frenchman Paulin and Febvre were in a great battle for fifth place.

Febvre, who was still on the gas, moved past Paulin and set his sights on Tonus, who was looking ahead to Lieber. While Gajser though had an eight-second lead, Febvre closed in and passed Paulin for 5thand Lieber turned it up, caught and passed Seewer for second. After 11 laps the lead was more than eight seconds, with Lieber second, Seewer third, then Tonus, Febvre, Paulin, Anstie, Coldenhoff, Bogers and Van Horebeek.

Later in the race Lieber, while he had one of his season’s best crashed, suffering a fracture on the left elbow, and Seewer managed to take the second position but he made a mistake on the final lap allowing Tonus to go through and finish second. Gajser won after 18-lap lead from Tonus and Seewer.

The gate dropped in race 2 and Gajser took the FOX Holeshot in an epic MXGP race start while both Yamaha’s Febvre and Seewer crashed in the opening lap. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass was second, followed by Tonus, Anstie and Paulin. Seewer dropped down in 14th and Febvre in 23rd. After two laps Gajser held a 2.6 second lead over Jonass, with Tonus a further three seconds back in third, and Standing Construct KTM’s Max Anstie all over the back wheel of the Yamaha rider.

Five laps in Gajser was up front four seconds ahead of Jonass, and Seewer had moved up to 12th and then to 9th position.

In total control Gajser remained in a handy lead over Jonass and Tonus, with the charge by Anstie and Paulin, while Seewer being in 8th place would assure podium finish. The Top 5 lead would never changed during MXGP Race 2 until the very last lap when Gautier Paulin went through Anstie stealing a position and finishing 4th.

With another 1-1 performance, Gajser extended his series points lead over Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli to 83 and is without question the fastest man at this moment. Second overall in the MXGP class was Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s Arnaud Tonus with 2-3 scores and third was his teammate Gautier Paulin with 5-4 scores. The pair of Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP made history being for the first time on the podium together and tied on points.

Tim Gajser: “I am very happy and I had a lot of fun. I made the races easier with the starts, because I took holeshots in both heats and today I couldn’t wait for Indonesia already. What I was missing in the first half of the season was the starts but now they’re better, the start was great in the first race. I took the FOX Holeshot and made a gap but made a mistake and I crashed, but then I managed to make a gap again and I looked forward to the second race. I am enjoying racing very much now. The weekend couldn’t have gone better.”

Arnaud Tonus: “First race was crazier even if I could finish second when I passed Seewer at the last lap, then in the second race I needed to push at the end to keep the third position but then also Gautier made the podium on the last lap passing Anstie, and this is super cool for the team and for the great job they do for us.”

Gautier Paulin: “It has been a long time since my last podium, I had a crash in Portugal, not a lot of luck in France and in Latvia I needed to pick it up, but I was really tired about this crazy period, eventually now I’m back on the box and I am so thankful to be on the podium with Arnaud Tonus. We are back in the game.”

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado proved to be strong in the hard pack circuit of Teutschenthal. The Spanish took the FOX Holeshot and led on teammate Tom Vialleand F&H Kawasaki’s Henry Jacobi for the whole race. Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha’s Jago Geerts and Honda 114 Motorsports’ Mitchell Evans followed in 4th and 5th until Evans on lap 3 dropped to seventh, and after working his way back to fifth place, he crashed and exited the race.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen had started in seventh place and lap by lap he made his way into fourth position, a position he would hold until the end of the race. Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee’s Bas Vaessen also looked strong, starting 9th, and finishing with a fifth place for the second weekend in a row. American Mitchell Harrison from BUD Racing Kawasaki also rode well on the Teutschenthal hard pack, starting in 12thand finishing in eighth.

Jacobi closed in to Vialle with the sound of his home crowd cheering but he could not manage to pass the French who set for the first time in his career the fastest lap of the race. Prado won 11 seconds ahead of Vialle and 19 seconds in front of Jacobi.

Once again it was Prado who took the Fox Holeshot, the 14thof the season, followed by Vialle, Olsen, Geerts and Boisrame, who rounded the MX2 start top 5. Jacobi was in 10th place and even further back was Harrison in 17thposition. Beaton rode smooth in sixth place after passing Vaessen and Jacobi moved into eighth place getting past Sanayei and Renaux.

While Olsen was all over Vialle for second place on lap four, BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei was out of the race with bike problem. Olsen and Geerts both went past Vialle, who slipped over in a corner. Later in the season Olsen also crashed and then Geerts made a mistake, so all of a sudden Vialle was second again while Olsen dropped back to sixth place just behind his teammate Beaton.

After five laps Prado was nearly eight seconds ahead of Vialle while Jacobi, who was looking for his way to pass Vialle, crashed and it cost him a bunch of positions ending up in 14th place and missing the awaited podium.

Prado was majestic as he pushed the lead to nearly 10 seconds over Vialle, while Geerts was forced to stop due to some problems with his bike. Boisrame managed to go through Vialle moving into second place for his best race finish of the season.

On lap 14 Jacobi collided with Sterry and the British rider went down hard, the accident also saw Harrison move into 10thposition. Prado won his 17thrace of 2019 over Boisrame and Vialle.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado again went 1-1 and took his 9thGrand Prix victory at the Grand Prix of Germany. Second overall was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Tom Vialleand third was Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Mathys Boisrame on his first MX2 Podium.

Jorge Prado: “I started the weekend a bit weak and didn’t have a good feeling, but today I turned it around and I felt better in the second race. It was a tough track but it was cool to race here. The second race was another great one for me. I felt very good compared to the first race, and I am very happy about it. Another 50 points and I’m very happy with the weekend.”

Tom Vialle: “This second place is good for me and for the whole team. I felt good all weekend. Training with Joel Smets has also helped me a lot.”

Mathys Boisrame: “It was incredible and I am very happy for my first podium. I have a good feeling with my bike. The feeling in the second race was very good and I am happy with my first podium. It is MX2 and not easy.”

Gajser and Prado top the qualifying races in Teutschenthal

Teutschenthal (Germany) 22 June 2019 – The 10thround of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship season has had its opening today at the German bumpy hills of Teutschenthal where Team HRC’s Tim Gajser and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado proved not to be wasting any time enjoying their previous perfect weekend’s victories but are fully concentrated on the present. Both scored race wins in the MXGP and MX2 qualification races today and head into tomorrow’s program with the confidence growing to another level.

The German round also included the European Championship classes of EMX250 and EMX125presented by FMF Racing. Saturday saw the first of the two races in each category while Sunday will decide the overall winners of each class.

While it was F&H Racing Kawasaki’s Roan Van De Moosdijk who came out of the first lap with the lead in the EMX250 race, it was Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Stephen Rubini who pushed hard to win the race in the final stages. Van De Moosdijk finished second eventually and Team Maddii Racing Husqvarna’s Alberto Forato came home third.

In the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing opener, it was Maddii Racing Husqvarna rider Mattia Guadagnini who took the win from Team VRT’sTom Guyon and KINI KTM Junior Pro Team’s Mike Gwerder. Guadagnini led on lap one and controlled the race from up front and Guyon rode an amazing race, coming from six on lap one to move into second on lap eight.

When the gate dropped in MXGP it was Team HRC’s Tim Gajser who took the lead early in the MXGP qualification race from the pair from Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team Romain Febvre and Jeremy Seewer, followed by Monster Energy Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s duo Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus. Febvre made a mistake on lap one and dropped a bunch of positions, dropping to 10th place.

Frantic action up front as the World’s fastest motocross riders pushed to the limit once again. After a lap the lead was more than three seconds as Gajser was again showing his hard pack skills. Teutschenthal proved to be always very technical and challenging allowing the MXGP riders to show who is the master of the dark soil. After three laps Gajser was leading by 5.6 seconds and, while Febvre managed to move into sixth place after passing Standing Construct KTM’s Ivo Monticelli and Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Julien Lieber, Tonus crashed on lap 6 dropping down to 13th leaving Seewer and Paulin as second and third.

Standing Construct KTM’s Glenn Coldenhoff was looking fast today and after battling Romain Febvre for third position he reached his best qualifying position of the season finishing 3rd.

After 11 laps the lead was more than 10 seconds as Gajser continued the best form of his career winning his 4th qualifying race of the season while Seewer and Coldenhoff rounded up the top 3 of today's qualification race.

Tim Gajser: “It was a great day today, I enjoyed the track, but it wasn’t easy. I had a good start and I was leading from the beginning, hopefully I’ll do the same tomorrow. Today I had the Yamaha guys just behind me and we had good battles, when we arrive at this time of the season everybody is pushing very hard, I’m looking forward for tomorrow, starts are going to be very important.”

KTM Sarholz’Max Nagl was back for his home GP but after making some laps during today’s free practice, he didn’t feel secure to continue as he again felt pain at his injured knee: “I got injured in Argentina and after the surgery I was very confident and keen on coming back especially because my recovery was faster than expected. I trained a few days and I felt fit to race again. Then something happened today and I’ll see the doctor during the weekend to go through that, I think I just had bad luck.”

MXGP - Qualifying Race Top 10:1. Tim Gajser (SLO, Honda), 25:33.189; 2. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, Yamaha), +0:06.404; 3. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, KTM), +0:07.508; 4. In MX2 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado won the MX2 qualifying race after being the fastest one in time practice. Prado led from the second lap of the MX2 qualification race, ahead of Honda 114 Motorsports’ Mitchell Evans and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle was fourth and BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei was in fifth place.

Local rider F&H Racing Kawasaki rider Henry Jacobi was down in seventh place but dropped to eighth when got passed by Honda Redmoto Assomotor’s Mathys Boisrame. Prado looked like he loved the hard-pack of Teutschenthal and after three laps held a four seconds lead over Olsen, with Evans in a solid third place. Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha Factory rider Jago Geerts, who has had very solid performances so far had a terrible start and after five laps was down in 11th place while his teammate Ben Watson didn’t line up due to an injury in today’s free practice which forced him out of the GP as a result of a double fracture to his left hand.

Jacobi was making a charge on lap six as he pulled up on the back wheel of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle and was giving the large home crowd something to cheer about. Prado seemed to be cruising as he remained four seconds ahead of Olsen on lap seven, and Evans was a further two seconds back in third place.

Jacobi blasted into fifth place on lap seven as he pushed past Vialle, and just ahead of him were Bud Racing Kawasaki rider Brian Moreau and Evans. Prado won his 6th qualifying race by a little more than two seconds from Olsen and Evans.

Jorge Prado: “It was a good qualification race. I didn’t have a good feeling today, but hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. I still got the qualification win and we’ll try our best tomorrow.”

Henry Jacobi, who is now 4thin the championship points, is the local hero here in Teutschenthal: “it’s always good to race here as I leave very close to Teutschenthal. This year I’m racing for F&H Kawasaki and we have worked a lot together to improve the bike and to be ready for this season. I hope to have a good start tomorrow and I really wish to be on the podium.”
