MXGP ALBUM #16 : AN INCREDIBLE 2024 SEASON TO REMEMBER !

Never in the long history of the championships we had to wait until the last race of the season to know who will be the three World champions and the two European motocross Champions! The 2024 season was a great one, full of emotions and rebounds  for the riders, the teams and the MXGP Album staff!

Since sixteen years now, Motocross GP Album is the annual reference book of the Motocross World Championships, and for sure the 2024 annual will become a ‘collector’ as the previous ones. Our team has been following the twenty one rounds – 20 MXGP and the MXoN – to provide the best pictures of the season. Throughout the 192 pages of this book you will relive this incredible season which ended with the titles of Kay De Wolf (MX2), Jorge Prado (MXGP), Lotte Van Drunen (WMX), Mathis Valin (EMX 250) and Noel Zanocz (EMX 125) and an incredible MX of Nations where the Australians clinched their first ever win.

All these championships are covered in MXGP Album with great pictures of Ray Archer, Lorenzo Resta and Pascal Haudiquert, while Stanley Leroux remain in charge of the layout of the book. As our history is part of the sport we look back to the rich history of the Italian manufacturers as Ducati arrives in MXGP, to the career of Tom Vialle who collect a US title after two World Championship crowns, and an historical track of the MXGP as Saint Jean d’Angely celebrates it’s 40th birthday this year

As usual you can pre order the book with two different cover pages, Standard or Limited. MXGP Album becomes an even more collector book.

To be sure to have one, you have to order it in advance – and not later than Sunday 3rd of November – on our website (http://www.motocrossgpalbum.com)

You will receive the book on its release early in December.

If you don’t pre order it, we can’t guarantee that MXGP Album will remain available after this date; last year we had no more books to sale early in December. We decided to produce the right quantity from the start, as it help us minimize the price increase in materials. To overcome this exceptional situation, we had to make choices while keeping the product itself unchanged. So we got creative and found this solution of pre order which is a great way to preserve our DNA: uncompromising quality, without advertising.

So don’t hesitate to order now MXGP Album 2024, and thanks to share this information around you !

And thanks for your confidence since 16 years now!

About MXGP Album

Since 16 years now, MXGP Album offer you pictures and quotes about the GP season and the Motocross of Nations all along its 192 pages. Apart from action pictures, this nice book with a hard book cover and a dust jacket invite you in the atmosphere and the emotion of the Grands Prix all over the world. Exclusive pictures, selected quotes from the riders, the annual book of the World Championship is back to you after an exciting season

HERLINGS AND GAJSER - RIVALS

With five World motocross championships each, Tim Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings will head into the 2025 MXGP championship with a lot of history between them. Of course, it was all the way back in 2015, when Herlings led the MX2 World championship points, only to crash out, as Gajser came back from being around 150 points down in the championship mid-season to take his first World championship.

Gajser had more or less come from nowhere to be crowned the MX2 champion, but he wasn’t about to sit back on his laurels and enjoy this new success, no, he moved to the MXGP class and quickly took World title number two. In that 2016 season, making his 450 debut, Gajser beat another legend in Antonio Cairoli, ending the season nearly 100 points up on the Italian.

As for Herlings, after the disappointments of 2015, he came back to dominate the MX2 class, winning the championship with more than 100 points on second placed man, Jeremy Seewer. Everyone awaited the 2017 season when both Herlings and Gajser would go head-to-head, but unfortunately, Herlings was injured in the off-season and Gajser had multiple injuries through his title defence. It was Cairoli who took his ninth and final World title, while Herlings finished second and Gajser fifth.

Then came 2018, a season Herlings dominated all his opposition, winning his fourth World title and beating Cairoli by more than 150 points. Gajser, again suffering injuries came home fourth in the title, but he was about to put on run of victories in 2019 and 2020 that would stamp him as one of the all-time greats.

In 2019 the HRC man won the title by 202 points, ahead of Jeremy Seewer, as again, Herlings struggled with major injuries and finished down in 19th place in the MXGP points standings and for “The Bullet”, 2020 wasn’t much better. As Gajser won his fourth World motocross championship, and beat Seewer by 102 points, Herlings finished in 12th place, well low on his rightful position. The Dutchman had won four of the first six GPs, but then didn’t race another round after it was again an injury that saw him end his season in the back of an ambulance.

All great champions return from defeat and sure enough, in 2021, Herlings won his fifth World motocross championship in one of the all-time closest seasons in the sports history. Herlings, Romain Febvre and Gajser went into the final round of the season, all capable of winning the title, but it was Herlings who showed great resolve and took out the championship.

What has been a major part of his career, Herlings was again injured in the pre-season and failed to race a single round of the 2022 season, while Gajser scored his fifth World title and this time 116 points ahead of Seewer, who had become something of a second man in line, behind the two legends. A young kid names Jorge Prado finished third in 2022, but he was about to take over the sport.

Sure enough, both Gajser and Herlings suffered injuries in 2023, with Prado winning the title, his third after already being crowned MX2 World champion on two occasions. A year later and while both Gajser and Herlings failed to pick up any major injuries, it was Prado again, who showed the two legends the way, winning his fourth World championship.

Now, as we head into the 2025 season, we have these two five-time World champions again lining up and both have a huge opportunity to capture a sixth World motocross championship and join the great Joel Robert on the all-time list of World champions.

In another note, Gajser, who is on 49 GP wins, will probably also join Robert on 50 GP wins at some point in 2025, something to look forward to, while Herlings might want to add to his 107 GP victories. Who gets the title, well, going by their past, it would go either way and enough reason to watch the 2025 MXGP championship, from the first round in Argentina, to the last in Australia.

PAULS JONASS JOINS THE KAWASAKI RACING TEAM

The Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP is proud to welcome on board Pauls Jonass, who will join the team to compete in the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship. A former MX2 world champion the talented Latvian will be the teammate of Romain Febvre.

For the first time in its long and successful history the Kawasaki Racing Team will line up two former World Champions in 2025 as the 2017 MX2 World Champion will join Romain Febvre. Twenty-seven year old Jonass already claimed his first national youth title at the age of ten and was a two-time World Junior and one-time European champion before joining the adult World Championship ten years ago. He quickly established himself as a front-runner in the MX2 world series with three FIM medals - two silver and one gold - and eleven GP victories in five years before advancing to the premier MXGP class in 2019.

Acclaimed as the rookie of the year with sixth in the final standings of his debut season aboard a 450 his progress was dented the following year as he was sidelined by broken ribs and vertebrae sustained in a practice crash, but he rebounded with top-ten rankings in 2021/22 before a thigh injury put him out of action early in the 2023 season.

The effervescent Latvian bounced back in style this year as he raced the factory riders head-on, taking the first GP victory of his career in the MXGP class at Agueda to hold a solid fifth place in the world standings before being sidelined for the remainder of the series after suffering a dislocated shoulder and broken arm in a start crash at the mid-season German round. A successful recuperation sees him back on a bike during the next few weeks to give him a full winter to become acquainted with the Kawasaki KX450-SR before the first round of the 2025 series in Argentina on March 2nd and 3rd and everyone at Kawasaki looks forward to seeing him create a lime-green sensation, together with Romain Febvre, throughout the entire season.

Pauls Jonass: “First of all I would like to thank my previous team for the amazing four years we spent together, and I’m super excited to join the Kawasaki Racing Team; every rider dreams of  racing for a factory team. I have worked with Antti in the past and I see how well he runs the team so I'm delighted to be given this opportunity. It will be the first time that I will be working with a Japanese factory team and, having seen how well the bike has worked the last two years, it is a dream to be riding the KX450-SR. Now it’s time to go to work to achieve the best results and hopefully we can soon battle for some wins.”

Antti Pyrhönen, KRT Manager:
“We at KRT are very excited to have another really top level rider joining the team. Pauls Jonass is still young yet he has already accumulated great experience of MXGP on the World stage. Pauls’ passion for racing, his will and his rock solid determination are second to none, so this really gives great motivation to all at KRT. We can’t wait to see Pauls alongside Romain to race the acknowledged race winning KX450-SR.”

Steve Guttridge, Race Planning Manager, KME:
“It’s great to see the momentum that KRT are establishing for a new season with a stable of riders that represent the pick of the pack. Not only will all Kawasaki fans be delighted to retain the services of Romain Febvre, but the addition of Pauls Jonass sets sturdy foundations for a formidable Championship challenge in 2025 for Kawasaki and KRT”.

Then a yet-to-be-confirmed location in the beginning of May followed by a return to Spain in a location to be announced soon. The adrenaline continues in late May with another trio of races as the championship sweeps through France at the magnificent Ernee, Germany’s staple of Teutschenthal, and then Latvia’s famed Kegums circuit in early June.

Following a brief break, the series shifts to Indonesia for back-to-back events in Sumbawa and Lombok, igniting global excitement as the championship moves beyond European borders. After the summer pause in July, racing resumes with a classic European stretch featuring rounds in the Czech Republic at Loket, Belgium’s demanding Lommel circuit, and the MXGP of Sweden in Uddevalla.

The final leg of the European season wraps up in Arnhem, Netherlands, before the series ventures into its final international phase. Turkiye's Afyonkarahisar will welcome the riders in September, followed by exciting races in Shanghai, China, and, for the first time ever, in Darwin for the MXGP of Australia as the season races toward its thrilling conclusion.

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship will feature six rounds in 2025, beginning with the season opener in Sardegna at the Riola Sardo circuit, setting an exciting tone for the competition. PIRELLI WINS ITS 82ND MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WITH JORGE PRADO

A season dominated by riders equipped with Pirelli SCORPION™ MX32™ tyres, who won 19 out of 20 Grands Prix, taking 18 pole positions and winning 37 out of 40 heats

Pirelli also wins the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing European Motocross Championship with Noel Zanocz.

The last Grand Prix of the 2024 season of the FIM Motocross World Championship crowned Jorge Prado (RedBull GasGas Factory Racing) World Champion of the MXGP class, a title won also thanks to the performance of the Pirelli SCORPION™ MX32™ tyres fitted to his GasGas MC 450F.

For Pirelli, the title won by Prado is the 82nd world motocross title, crowning a record-breaking season for the brand of P logo and its riders: out of a total of 20 contested, the Grand Prix won were 19, the pole positions 18 and the heats 37 out of 40. In practice, the red plate has always been firmly in the hands of Pirelli drivers.

The final championship classification even sees an all-Pirelli podium: Jorge Prado, Tim Gajser (HRC team) second, and Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) third.

After a championship of twenty GPs, fought until the last heat, the MXGP title was decided in Spain at the GP of Castilla la Mancha disputed on the Cozar track, where the Spaniard Jorge Prado arrived with seven points ahead of Slovenian Tim Gajser.

After Saturday's qualifying, Prado's championship lead over Gajser had increased by two points, but it was Sunday's two rainbow heats that decided the fate of the season's podium: first in race one and fourth in race two, Prado eventually had ten points more than Gajser, and won his fourth world championship title after those won in 2018 and 2019 in MX2, and last year in MXGP, again on Pirelli tyres.

The final round of the 125 Motocross European Championship completed a successful weekend for Pirelli, with Hungarian rider Noel Zanocz (Fantic) winning the championship, and Italian Simone Mancini (Fantic) taking third place.

The Pirelli SCORPION™ MX motocross tyre range includes SCORPION™ MX Soft for soft terrain such as mud and sand, SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft for medium-soft terrain and SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Hard for harder terrain. In line with Pirelli's philosophy in motorbike racing, all these tyres are not prototypes but production tyres that every motocross-loving rider can buy from their trusted dealer.

UNSTOPPABLE JORGE PRADO WINS HIS FOURTH MOTOCROSS WORLD TITLE

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 2 October 2024 – The 2024 season saw an epic battle between three multi-time World Champions, as Jorge Prado took the #1 plate he had earned from his 2023 title and fought to defend it against the two five-time World Champions in the class, Tim Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings.  It was the first time that two existing quintuple Champs had lined up together since 2004.  Between the big three, these riders have dominated MXGP for the last half-decade, taking every title since Antonio Cairoli’s final crown of 2017.  While his 2023 crown was never straightforward, this time Prado had to take on the other two multi-champs for the entire season, and Motocross fans were treated to a back and forth, unpredictable, and season-long struggle for supremacy.

The 23-year-old Spaniard, who celebrates his birthday in the first week of the year and is still at the age where many riders would be racing in MX2, has truly matured into one of the all-time greats with this amazing Championship battle. Taking 11 Grand Prix wins against four for each of his main rivals, the consistency of his competitors pushed him to continually get the best out of himself. For a rider whose career holeshot record hovers around the 50% mark – truly one of the best starters of all time – that means riding at the front and enduring the pressure from legends who have the fearsome reputation of being untouchable towards the end of a Grand Prix race.

As Jorge’s father, Jesus, told the Behind The Gate crew, Jorge has been riding in this way since the age of nine. “For Jorge, it is natural to get the holeshot and lead a race.  It might not be for everyone, but this is the way he has always raced. Some riders cannot do this as well, but Jorge can take the pressure because he is so used to being in front.” This ability caught the attention of the KTM management, and in his early teenage years the Prado family moved to Belgium, the mecca of Motocross, to support him in his quest to become a professional Motocross rider. With a  natural style and balance that has been shaped in part by his love for Trials – a sport that has been led by the Spanish for decades – he soon mastered the sand riding techniques of the Benelux riders like nobody else from his part of the world.

All of this contributed to Prado’s rapid development into one of the hottest prospects of European Motocross. In 2015, he won the EMX125 European title at the age of 14, starting his career successfully. A year later in 2016, after finishing a less successful EMX250 season, the young Prado lined-up in his first MX2 Grand Prix in The Netherlands, in the deep sandy track of Assen. That is when he entered into the big league with a bang, racing dominant Champion Jeffrey Herlings hard in the Dutchman’s local sand, confirming all of his talent as he directly climbed onto the third step of the podium, at the tender age of just 15.

The 2017 campaign was his first full MX2 season, finishing seventh in the standings with an impressive trio of Grand Prix victories at Trentino, Lommel, and Assen, with five podiums, becoming the first Spanish rider to win an MX2 Grand Prix. The Spaniard was already on his way to greatness as he emerged in 2018 as one of the most complete riders of the year in MX2.

Jorge moved to the Italian squad of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, alongside Antonio Cairoli, and Claudio and Davide De Carli took the challenge to guide the young Spanish rider to the top of the MX2 class.  Prado went on to take a whopping 12 GP wins, making 17 podiums out of 20. With these impressive stats, Prado rose above his main rival Pauls Jonass to win his first MX2 World Championship, and the first for a Spanish rider outside of the defunct MX3 category.

He didn’t stop there as he rode even better during the 2019 season to completely dominate the Championship, winning every Grand Prix he contested apart from Uddevalla, which was where he steadily took a fourth place in race two to clinch the title with two rounds to go, even after completely missing round two in the UK due to a shoulder injury. His margin of 213 points was the biggest ever seen in MX2, and his second straight title saw him move up to the MXGP category as he turned 19 years of age.

In the premier class, Prado had to deal with a heavy-hitting line-up of former World Champions like Antonio Cairoli, Jeffrey Herlings, Tim Gajser and Romain Febvre. Not only that, but he immediately broke his leg in pre-season training on the 450. His first season in MXGP ended with a solid sixth place in the Championship with GP victories in Faenza and Lommel, as well as an emotional home GP win at the first event held at the intu-Xanadu Arroyomolinos circuit.

Fifth in 2021 with a solitary GP win at Loket, the 2022 season saw Prado switch brand to the Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing Team with Davide De Carli. This proved to be a good move with the Spaniard stepping up a notch and starting to perform at the top on a regular basis. He won a single GP in Portugal and managed to get an amazing 10 podiums out of 17 to claim his first MXGP medal with bronze behind Tim Gajser and Jeremy Seewer.

2023 was the year that Prado rose to become MXGP Champ for the first time, also winning the first title for the GASGAS brand. The Spaniard started the season in top form in Argentina after winning the newly implemented points-counting RAM Qualifying Race, then finishing on the podium on Sunday to wear the Red Plate that he would never relinquish. After that, Prado kept performing to high standards, pressuring his rivals with 11 RAM Qualifying Race wins, and although he only won two GPs overall, in Trentino and Teutschenthal, he won more individual races than anybody with a total of 14, withstanding the charge of Jeffrey Herlings before the Dutchman’s injury, then able to keep a rampant Romain Febvre at bay with consistent scoring, clinching the title at Maggiora when Febvre suffered a mechanical issue to put the Championship beyond his reach.

His 2024 season started by showing impressive form from the very beginning as he hit the MXGP Championship on the back of a non-stop winter pre-season, winning the first four Grands Prix with six of the eight individual race wins.  Although getting unstuck in the mud of Portugal, he bounced back with a commanding win in his hometown MXGP of Galicia, on the track that’s named after him in Lugo! With both that GP and a later win in Sweden, he revealed that the 2024 edition of Jorge Prado could actually make passes and win from average starts!

The red plate bounced between Jorge and the consistent Tim Gajser, until Prado got caught up in a first turn pile-up at Maggiora!  The track that had given him so much joy in 2023 nearly cost him the title this season, as Gajser romped to the GP win and stretched out a points lead.

After Jorge’s first four wins, nobody was able to win back-to-back GPs, as the three multi-champions slugged it out.  Passed by Gajser for the GP win at Loket, then by a stunning Herlings display at Lommel, he stayed in the fight with that win at Uddevalla, before again falling to Herlings in the sand of Arnhem. Even with Gajser’s victory in Switzerland for round 17, extending the Slovenian’s lead, Prado never dropped out of the top three in a race after the second Indonesian round.  After a narrow win for the Spaniard in Türkiye, the turning point came in China when Gajser suffered his moment of misfortune with crashes and a broken footpeg in race one.

With the final round in Spain, and two perfect home GPs under his belt already, the slender seven-point advantage Prado held going to the final round at Cozar looked to be healthy enough.  Despite a rare error which cost him the second race win, Jorge rode to a third straight GP victory to clinch that fourth title in his home country!  Amidst wild celebrations he was able to tell Lisa Leyland that: “It was a great year, and I deserve this title so much. A lot of work goes behind it, with a lot of effort from everybody behind me. That’s the fourth one, let’s go!”

Although there is speculation about his future, to be cleared up in the weeks to come, there is now no doubt that the best Spanish Motocross racer ever, and now equal sixth in all-time GP wins with Gajser on 49, has joined the ranks of the all-time elite with this epic Championship victory.  Vamos, Senor Prado!

2024 ACERBIS BEST LAP WINNERS | PRADO AND L.COENEN

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 2 October 2024 - Infront Moto Racing is excited to have Acerbis as sponsor of the Best Lap Competition for both the MXGP and MX2 classes for the second consecutive year during the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship.

This season has once again proven to be unforgettable, with both the MXGP and MX2 classes delivering, right to the last races of the season, thrilling battles, incredible overtakes and numerous memorable moments that MXGP fans will cherish for years to come. The Acerbis Best Lap competition highlights the pinnacle of these moments, honoring the fastest riders in each class with well-deserved recognition and reward.

How does the competition work?

At the end of each Grand Prix, the rider with the fastest lap in both MXGP and MX2 earns a point in the Acerbis Best Lap Competition. The rider with the most points in each class by the end of the championship season is awarded a prize from Acerbis at the annual MXGP Awards Ceremony.

In the 2024 season, Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado dominated the MXGP class with 14 Acerbis Best Laps, while Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Lucas Coenen led the MX2 category with 8 Acerbis Best Laps.

Prado’s dominance in MXGP was remarkable, securing 70% of the Acerbis Best Laps throughout the season. The remaining 6 Acerbis Best Laps were claimed by Jeffrey Herlings with four laps, while Tim Gajser took 2 Acerbis Best Laps

In MX2, Lucas Coenen displayed incredible speed, followed by Simon Laengenfelder and Andrea Adamo, each securing 3 Acerbis Best Laps, while Sacha Coenen finished with 2 Acerbis Best Laps.

Prado and L.Coenen were both presented with their Acerbis Best Lap awards during the MXGP Awards ceremony, which was broadcasted globally through live streams on MXGP's Facebook and YouTube channels, as well as www.MXGP-TV.com.
