Team Great Britain for the Monster Energy FIM MXoN

With just over six weeks until the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations heads to Matterley Basin on Saturday September 30th and Sunday October 1st. Team Manager Mark Chamberlain, in conjunction with the ACU Motocross Committee is pleased to announce that the three riders selected to represent Great Britain on home soil will be Max Anstie (MXGP), Tommy Searle (MX2) and Dean Wilson (MX Open).

Max Anstie will be lining up in the MXGP class on his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing machine. After taking third overall at the Fiat Professional MXGP of Lombardia in June and race podiums at both the Grand Prix in Lommel and Switzerland during his rookie season in the MXGP class, Max has proven his ability to be a front runner at the event.

In the MX2 class Tommy Searle will be dropping down to the 250f after recently returning to fitness and Grand Prix racing. Tommy has proven in recent years to be Team GB strongest rider at the event and took victory in the MX2 class at the MXoN in Latvia when he last dropped to the MX2 machine for the event.

The third member of the team will be American based Dean Wilson on the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna in the MX Open class. Wilson currently sits fourth in the AMA 450 Motocross points standings with two rounds remaining. During the season Wilson has been in strong form consistently, taking overall podiums at both Southwick and Spring Creek.

With three strong and experienced riders, Team Manager Mark Chamberlain commented, “Dean is having a great season in the US and after meetings with Husqvarna Factory Racing on Sunday in Switzerland, they have agreed to supply Dean with bikes and assistance for the race which has made the decision straight forward. Max is having a great season and showed again in Switzerland that he is a potential class winner and he has expressed how much he is looking forward to and preparing for the race. For the MX2 class we have gone with Tommy as I feel that after 9 months off he still has a turn of speed, that on a 250f in six weeks’ time will be even greater again. His commitment to Team GB over the years and the belief I have is that he is still a World Class rider with a lot more to give.

Overall it’s a strong Team with experience that the fans can now really get behind leading up to and at the race. I'd like to thank all of the riders that have made themselves available for selection and shown how much riding for their country means to them now and in the future.”

MXGP Set for Sweden

(UDDEVALLA), Sweden, 16 August 2017 - The MXGP crew is getting set for the weekend as the 16th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship takes place in Uddevalla, Sweden. The gorgeous yet rocky MXGP of Sweden makes a return to the calendar after being missed in 2016. Uddevalla has a long history first hosting the World Championship in 1958 and prior to 2016 was on the calendar every year between 2001 and 2015.

As always MXGP and MX2 will race this weekend but so too will EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and the Honda 150 European Championship. For the 125cc’s this is the final round of their season. The consistent BUD Racing Monster Energy Rider Brian Moreau leads the points by a margin of 19 over Gianluca Facchetti setting the stage for an epic showdown. Meanwhile in Honda 150 European Championship the top three of Adam Nordstrom Graaf, Luis Outeiro, and Andrea Adamo are only separate by 6 points leaving the title wide open.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings wins his 2nd GP in a row last weekend and continues to push for wins. However with only 4 rounds remaining and 97 points required to catch the championship leader Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli it may be a little too late. Cairoli’s most recent memory of the Uddevalla circuit is most like one he would prefer to forget as he finished outside the top 5 in 2015. Besides his 2015 mishap Cairoli has excelled on the circuit winning the GP 6 times and finishing on the podium twice.

Herlings has remained determined as he knows from personal experience that in the MXGP series anything is possible. It was at this track that Herlings ended his 2015 MX2 season while leading the championship by 78 points. However the other six years that he raced Sweden he was 1st 3 times and 2nd the other 3.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team’s Romain Febvre has yet to reach the podium in 2017 coming closest last week in Switzerland and he would like to replicate his 2015 Swedish success where he dominated with double victories over his teammate Jeremy Van Horebeek. While team Suzuki World MXGP’s Kevin Strijbos is another rider who has done well in the past here finishing 3rd overall in 2015, 2014, and 2012.

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser seems fond of the Swedish soil as the two times he has raced the circuit he won the MX2 overall in 2015 and was third 2014.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle comes of a poor weekend in Switzerland. Desalle is hoping to turn his luck around this weekend in Sweden where he won in 2012 and reached the podium in 2013.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin had his best weekend as of late in Switzerland when he returned the podium with second overall. Paulin has achieved the podium three times in Sweden but all were in MX2 with his best 450 result being 5th.

MXGP Championship Top Ten: 1. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 605 points; 2. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 508 p.; 3. Gautier Paulin (FRA, HUS), 486 p.; 4. Clement Desalle (BEL, KAW), 483 p.; 5. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 406 p.; 6. Romain Febvre (FRA, YAM), 401 p.; 7. Maximilian Nagl (GER, HUS), 358 p.; 8. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, YAM), 348 p.; 9. Arnaud Tonus (SUI, YAM), 328 p.; 10. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, HON), 320 p.

  2. Jeremy Van Horebeek

Kemea Yamaha Official Team’s Benoit Paturel took last week’s overall victory topping both points leader Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass and Swiss native Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer.

It is not go without mention that Seewer showed incredible determination and speed as he came through the field from last position to finish 5th in race 2 of Switzerland. Seewer will clearly be looking for redemption and the win. Historically Seewer has reached the podium in Sweden during the 2015 season and finished 10th in 2014.

While Paturel himself is not a championship contender his newly found confidence and impressive results could interfere with the title hopes of either Jonass or Seewer. Paturel finished 10th overall in Sweden 2 years ago.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen is one to consider when thinking of who might take the overall this Sunday. While Olsen is a rookie he is experienced racing in this region of Europe, hailing from nearby Denmark this is the closest he will have to a home GP.

Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Alvin Ostlund will look to shine this Sunday for what is his first home GP. Ostlund’s best result this season comes from Russia with 5th overall.

LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber was having a good weekend in Switzerland but a racing incident where he and Seewer collided midair dropped him multiple positions. If Lieber can have another pair of good starts and keep it on two wheels a podium is well within reason.

MX2 Championship Top Ten: 1. Pauls Jonass (LAT, KTM), 629 points; 2. Jeremy Seewer (SUI, SUZ), 580 p.; 3. Benoit Paturel (FRA, YAM), 476 p.; 4. Thomas Kjer Olsen (DEN, HUS), 467 p.; 5. Julien Lieber (BEL, KTM), 428 p.; 6. Thomas Covington (USA, HUS), 387 p.; 7. Jorge Prado Garcia (ESP, KTM), 351 p.; 8. Brian Bogers (NED, KTM), 308 p.; 9. Hunter Lawrence (AUS, SUZ), 260 p.; 10. Herlings and Paturel Win in Switzerland

(FRAUENFELD-GACHNANG) Switzerland, 13 August 2017 - The MXGP of Switzerland presented by iXS roared to life today with thousands of enthusiastic and vibrant fans witnessing epic racing. The Swiss chocolate like soil of Frauenfeld - Gachnang provided the perfect surface for an MXGP and MX2 showdown. In the end it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Jeffrey Herlings and Kemea Yamaha Official Team’s Benoit Paturel who stole the show.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Jeffrey Herlings came into the weekend with a win on the Lommel sands and he was hoping for another in Switzerland. In race 1 it looked as if his dreams would not turn into reality when he started near 15th position. One lap in he made his way up to 10 and from there he continued charging.

At the front of the field it was Wilvo Yamaha MXGP’s Arnaud Tonus leading his home GP. Tonus took the lead on the first few turns from the #99 FOX Holeshot winner, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie.

Anstie made several attempts to pass Tonus throughout the 16 lap race but the Brit never found a way past. In third and fourth it was the French riders of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre.

Febvre hounded the back tire of Paulin and on lap 8 made it by but it was short lived as he stalled his Yamaha and took time restarting the machine. The error allowed Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli into third right after he’d passed Paulin.

Back at the front Tonus responded to the challenge and he won his first ever MXGP race ahead of Anstie, Cairoli, Paulin, and Febvre while Herlings finished 6th.

In race 2 Tonus and Herlings switched roles with Tonus around 18th and Herlings in the lead after a Cairoli FOX Holeshot. Cairoli also lost a spot to Paulin and he was passed by Febvre in the early portion of the race.

While Herlings started to check out from the field Tonus was fighting his way through it. Tonus fell on the tunnel jump prior to the finish and at first he was unscathed by whilst trying to return to his bike was hit by Suzuki World MXGP’s Arminas Jasikonis send both riders tumbling.

Jasikonis remounted but Tonus walked of the track unable to finish in a disappointing end to his weekend.

The front four stayed in the same order to the finish with Herlings winning, Paulin second and Febvre third after a Cairoli charge came up short. Team HRC’s Tim Gajser took the final spot in the race 2 top 5.

Cairoli in the press conference said: “I rode a little bit to careful in the beginning of the race so I’m not happy with my second race but I am happy about the overall GP, to be on the podium is always good.”

The overall win was taken by Herlings but only gave him a 2 point gain on Cairoli in the championship. Herlings in the press conference stated: “In the first race I messed up the start…so I worked from 15th up to 6th but the guys in 10th place shouldn’t be underestimated, they are still going fast and have won GP’s. I am very very happy and I hope to keep this rhythm going.”

Paulin’s 4-2 gave him second overall and his first visit to the podium since Russia. Paulin in the press conference said: “I’m back getting good starts, back more or less in good shape, so I’m looking forward to next races. Being on the box is great for the team and it is back where we need to be.”

Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer is the hometown hero and he didn’t disappoint his fans this weekend. In race 1 Seewer was around 4th off the start with his title rival, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass ahead of him.

Taking another Fox Holeshot was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado Garcia. Seewer had the cheers of the crowd motivate him to pass Jonass which he did 4 laps into the race.

3 laps later Seewer then passed Prado to take the lead and from there he charged on. Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Benoit Paturel rallied his way into second and on the final lap caught Seewer.

Seewer made a mistake out of a corner which allowed Paturel to get right next to him and apply pressure. Seewer noticeably tensed up but still took the win only 6 tenths of a second ahead of Paturel.

Race 2 couldn’t have started worse for Seewer when he hit the back wheel of Prado and went down in the first corner. Prado took the holeshot Jonass was right in tow as Seewer was left collecting and restarting his Suzuki from dead last position.

Jonass then took the lead from Prado but fell shortly after dropping to 5th and giving the lead back to his teammate. Only a lap later it was Prado who fell and gave the lead away.

Capitalizing on the KTM rider’s mistakes was Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington. Covington led for 5 laps before the determined Paturel found a way by the American.

Meanwhile Jonass worked his way back into the top through and past his teammate. The real story however was Jeremy Seewer coming back through the field in a valiant effort. Seewer made it all the way to 5th at the finish giving him second overall. Seewer later said: “It is just amazing what happened this weekend, I think that with the whole history of motorsports in Switzerland this is a new level with all the crowd and the fans. It is a tough moment but still we are looking to forward to the next GPs.”

Winning his race two and his first ever overall was Benoit Paturel in what is his final MX2 season. Paturel in the press conference said: “I have been waiting a long time for this win and today it was my day. It is really good for me and for all my team, we have worked really hard for this. Today is a really good day and I am really happy about it.”

Jonass took third overall, in the press conference stated: “I was a little off of the pace but at the end of the day we only lost one point in the championship. We got on the podium and the most important thing is to stay consistent.”
