2017 Supercross de Paris Presentation

After the Fiat Professional MXGP of France qualifying press conference the Sport Director of Supercross de Paris, Mr. Xavier Audouard along with Motocross Promoter and Supercross de Paris partner Mr. Eric Peronnard were on stage to present the first invitation of ‘Paris Supercross’ which is taking place on November 18th and 19th in a completely brand new stadium in La Defence, the business area of Paris.

The Stadium, called U Arena, is still under construction and will be inaugurated in October 2017 with a concert by the famous Rolling Stones.

France is a very passionate country for off road Motorsports and the Fiat Professional MXGP of France is a good example of its enthusiasm as well as the Supercross de Paris.

Mr. Xavier Audouard said: “I’m sure everybody here is familiar with what we have called Bercy Supercross for 30 years and what I wish to introduce here is the next level of this event, the new arena which will host this event from now on. It’s an honor to bring the Supercross atmosphere into this new arena. Another novelty is the system the Stadium will use to project the images instead of the usual screen, this new technology allows to project the images on a bigger wall and with the same quality of the screens. The quality of the show will be very high. What we’ve been dreaming of for years is going to happen this year.”

Mr. Eric Peronnard continued: “This new arena is something unique, I visited it yesterday and it surprised me in a very positive way. I was very pumped, inside you have a fantastic Supercross track, outside one the most beautiful cities in the world, this is really worth looking forward to. “

As the 2017 line up will be announced soon, Mr. Xavier Audouard concluded underlining the fact the Stadium is at the moment the star of the Supercross de Paris.

Desalle and Jonass Finish First in France

(ERNEE) France, 27 May 2017 - The 2017 FIAT Professional MXGP of France got underway today in Ernée. On the challenging and hilly French circuit it was Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass who won Saturday’s Qualifying Races.

It was a busy day in Ernée as Race 1 of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship round 3 and the European Championships EMX250 and EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing were taking place. The Women’s race was a dramatic one with several lead changes and battles abound MXFonta Racing’s Kiara Fontanesi had the lead with but fell on the uphill straight and lost it to Nancy Van de Ven with a lap and a half remaining. With one lap to go and Van de Ven in the lead Team 114’s Livia Lancelot charged to the front, passed Van de Ven and won race 1 in epic fashion in front of the roaring home crowd.

In EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing Race 1 Kevin Horgmo won 9.2 seconds in front of the battle for second between Scotty Verhaeghe and Gianluca Facchetti where they finished in that order. In EMX250 class many riders struggled and made mistakes but the top 3 spots went to Mathys Boisrame, Jago Geerts and Pierre Goupillon.

The weekend couldn’t have started better for Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle as he had a good start in qualifying race, not the Holeshot but into the lead on the second corner. Desalle led every lap and won his first qualifying race of the season. Desalle is now focused on tomorrow and will hope to repeat his performance from today. The Belgian in the press conference said: “It is a good feeling to be here again, even if the main races will be tomorrow, it’s very important to start on pole to be on the top. Today I had a good start and then a good feeling of the bike during the whole race. I’m really looking forward for tomorrow”.

In front of a monstrous Saturday crowd Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre gave his supportive French fans a show. Febvre grabbed the Holeshot but he lost the lead immediately to Desalle and then he fell into fourth. The #461 Yamaha rider fought his way back to second place closing on Desalle every lap but was unable to get close enough. Febvre later in the press conference said: “I had a very good start but then I made some mistakes and then Clement passed me. Since the MXGP of Germany I started to feel good and I think things are working now. The home GP is always a special moment especially here that I have good memories from the 2015 FIM Monster Energy MXoN. The track is exactly the same as in 2015 and it’s very well prepared”

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders of Jeffrey Herlings and Antonio Cairoli battled throughout most of the race with neither rider wanting to back down. At first it was Cairoli who was ahead but Herlings found his way by the 8-time champion who was in 6th on lap 4 and unable to take the position back. Herlings continued his charge forward finishing 3rd while Cairoli remained 6th until the checkered flag.

The other Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 rider, Glenn Coldenhoff, also had a strong qualification result. Coldenhoff was in second the first 2 laps before being passed by Febvre, the Dutch rider then stayed in 3rd until the very last lap when he was passed by his KTM team mate, Herlings.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl had one of his best races this season running 4th for 9 of the 13 laps. Nagl finished fifth and with his good gate pick a top five overall is well within reach for the German.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin starts qualifying in 5th but ended of dropping to 8th. The Frenchman is in a fairly good starting position for Sunday at his home GP and he will try to find the winning form he had only a few short weeks ago.

MXGP Qualifying Race Top Ten: 1. Clement Desalle (BEL, Kawasaki), 25:28.566; 2. Romain Febvre (FRA, Yamaha), +0:08.913; 3. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), +0:30.734; 4. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, KTM), +0:32.203; 5. Maximilian Nagl (GER, Husqvarna), +0:33.160; 6. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), +0:33.650; 7. Gautier Paulin (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:48.072; 8. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +1:04.199; 9. Jose Butron (ESP, KTM), +1:05.731; 10. Alessandro Lupino (ITA, Honda), +1:06.436.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass controlled MX2’s Qualifying race once again today. Jonass didn’t get his usual Holeshot but he moved into the lead quickly and led every time the field crossing the finish line. Jonass seems to be focused and feeling good heading into Sunday. In the press conference Jonass said: “I had a really good start, I didn’t get the Holeshot actually but after the second corner I was leading already and this helped a lot because the track has many lines and it’s good to get a good start and pick your own lines the first laps. In those first laps I was able to get a pretty good gap and then just cruise to the finish.”

The Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team rider Benoit Paturel is now showing the competitiveness many expected earlier in the season. Paturel didn’t have the best of starts but he managed to pass several riders on the first lap and put in the fastest lap time of the race. Running third the first 6 laps Benoit tried to make a pass for second and made a mistake causing him to lose ground. Paturel eventually managed his way to second where he was 11.4 seconds behind Jonass. By the checkered flag the roaring support of the home fans pushed him to close the gap to 2.1 seconds. Paturel in a post race interview said: “I had a really bad start but I passed many riders on the first lap which was good and after I came to the back of Lieber, made a mistake, then came back again. I was close to Jonass at the end of the race. It’s really good to ride in front of the French fans. I really think that tomorrow I will have a good battle with Seewer, Jonass, and Lieber.”

After narrowly avoiding a downed rider on the first jump LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber came into the second corner in 5th position and moved into second by the completion of the opening lap. Lieber had pressure from Paturel early in the race and unable to fend the frenchman off he settled into third giving him a good gate pick for both races tomorrow.

The other Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team rider, Brent Van doninck was top five on lap one and made a pass for fourth stick on the 2nd lap. Van Doninck had a relatively uneventful race with a decent cushion between himself and anyone else until the later stage where he finished 2.1 seconds behind Lieber.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen had to work his way through the field after passing many riders on the opening lap, he crossed the finish for the first time in 8th. Continuing his charge forward he passed other 3 riders by lap 4 but he wasn’t able to catch the #172 of Van doninck who was 24.6 seconds ahead at the finish. Olsen’s result goes to show the importance of a good start in the competitive class of MX2.

The rider who grabbed the holeshot was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado. Prado’s holeshot lasted only a few meters though before he slid out on the lip of the first jump and then also fell a couple more times before finishing 27th. Though the track got the best of Prado today tomorrow’s racing remains his focus.

MX2 Qualifying Race Top Ten: 1. Pauls Jonass (LAT, KTM), 24:15.271; 2. Benoit Paturel (FRA, Yamaha), +0:02.187; 3. Julien Lieber (BEL, KTM), +0:18.437; 4. Brent Van doninck (BEL, Yamaha), +0:20.602; 5. Thomas Kjer Olsen (DEN, Husqvarna), +0:45.230; 6. Alvin Östlund (SWE, Yamaha), +0:49.583; 7. Thomas Covington (USA, Husqvarna), +0:50.816; 8. Darian Sanayei (USA, Kawasaki), +0:54.086; 9. David Herbreteau (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:56.841; 10. Conrad Mewse (GBR, Husqvarna), +0:57.592.

Samuele Bernardini to miss the Fiat Professional MXGP of France

Samuel Bernardini will not be attending the FIAT Professional MXGP of France because of an injury on his left knee.

Unfortunately, during the second race of the MXGP of Germany, he twisted his leg at the entrance of a turn. Bernardini had ridden some previous GPs on a minor injury, and the first findings did not detect major injuries to the knee. After his return to Italy careful and specialized clinical examinations were performed, where he discovered the severity of the incident. In the coming days, Samuele and the Team will decide how to proceed. The utmost priority of TM Racing is to provide Bernardini the time needed for the best healing possible while respecting his physical integrity and without compromising the continuation of his career.

British Dilemma

2017 has been a strange and unfortunate season for British riders.

Multiple GP winner Tommy Searle injured himself in a pre-season accident, that saw him hurt his knee. The injury happened in January, and now five months later, he is finally back racing, but not ready for the rough and rigor or the Grand Prix scene. Instead he will race a minor national race in his homeland to prepare for possible the Grand Prix of Russia or Lombardia, Italy.

Next up was former MX2 GP winner Max Anstie. The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider missed the MXGP of Trentino and the European Grand Prix in Valkenswaard a week later due to a knee injury.

The MXGP rookie sustained a left knee injury back in April. “It’s always disappointing when a rider is unable to compete due to injury, but that’s a part of our sport,” said team manager Antti Pyrhonen at the time. “Max had enjoyed a good start to the season, and has been steadily improving his speed and consistency. We’re thankful his injury isn’t a serious one, with a little time to recover he will soon be back to full fitness.”

Anstie returned for the Grand Prix of Latvia, scoring 27 points and is currently the best placed British rider, down in 13th place in the MXGP series points.

Shaun Simpson, who had given the British representatives a shining light, with his Grand Prix win in the mud-fest of Indonesia, but his luck ran out at the Grand Prix of Latvia, where he suffered a broken hand which required surgery.

At the time the Scottish rider flew back to Belgium for an appointment with a hand and foot specialist who repaired his third metacarpal with a plate, five screws and two nails. After a successful operation, he was discharged from Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Herentals, Belgium, but the recovery is a long one.

Simpson hopes to make his Grand Prix return at the MXGP of Lombardia in Italy on the weekend of June 25th and his current position in the MXGP point standings of 14th will drop badly as he missed the Grand Prix of Germany, and will miss France this weekend, and the Russian Grand Prix, before a hopeful return in Italy.

If it was bad enough for the British MXGP riders, injury has also caused problems for the MX2 boys. Their best placed rider in that class is Adam Sterry, who holds down 16th in the series points, but he too is injured and will likely miss a handful of rounds, possibly the rest of the season.

It seemed like youngsters Ben Watson and Conrad Mewse will have to hold the fort now, Watson 17th in the points and Mewse 19th, although Mewse has also just received an injury to his ankle. Ruling him out of the German Grand Prix two weeks ago.

"After two amazing weeks of training and a great last GP everything was going perfect, until I landed heavy off a jump and broke a small bone in my left ankle. It's a massive disappointment that I will miss this weekend's GP, but will be back in France. Best of luck to the team.”

Now going into France this weekend, it will be up to Anstie in the MXGP class and Watson in MX2 to try and give the travelling British fans something to get excited about.

MXGP Returns to Ernèe for the FIAT Professional MXGP of France

Ernèe (France), 24 May 2017 – After a one year break MXGP is returning to Ernèe for the 9th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship and the 2017 FIAT Professional MXGP of France. Making a return to the calendar, the last race held at Ernèe was the 2015 Monster Energy FIM MXoN which ended epic fashion with France winning the chamberlain trophy ahead of team USA.

After only a few short days the MXGP paddock is getting ready to race again. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli and Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer arrive in France with momentum after both added to wins to their resume in Germany.

The circuit of Ernèe will also host the third round of WMX, EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing, and EMX250 in addition to MXGP and MX2.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, who scored his 80th career win only days ago at the MXGP of Germany is continuing to grow his points lead. Cairoli won here in 2013, the last time the MXGP championship visited the Ernèe circuit. With momentum and history on his side Cairoli will be hard to beat this weekend.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings continued to impress on the 450 in Teutschenthal as he came from 6th to win race one and took second overall. Herlings continues to say the championship is out of reach now halfway into the season but the #84 is only 84 points off of red plate holder, Cairoli. A favorite for the win Herlings also won here in 2013 but for him it was in the MX2 class.

Team HRC’s Tim Gajser is a champion, a fighter, and about as tough as it gets. Gajser came into Germany sore and beat up from a violent crash in Latvia however impressed as he jumped to the front of qualifying but crashed out of the race and further irritated his wounds. As Gajser raced Sunday it was clear he was doing so to salvage points. Now only one week later the young Slovenian will have to remain focused and put the pain aside if hopes to come back from his points deficit.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin reached the podium last weekend and will use that momentum along with his home GP crowd to propel him onto it once again. Paulin finished second overall here in 2013, a result that will be hard to match with the competitiveness of the class but the Frenchman is undoubtedly up to the challenge.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle finished 4th overall in Germany and 5th here in 2009, however in 2013 Desalle reached the Ernèe podium. Desalle is looking more and more competitive every week and is now 4th in the points.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek has made his way to 5th in the championship standings but is only 5 points ahead of Herlings. Van Horebeek placed 5th in MX2 during the last visit to Ernèe.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre is coming off of an improved result in Teutschenthal and was part of the winning french team here in 2015. With fond memories nothing to loose, improving results, and it being his home GP Febvre is one rider keep an eye on.

One more rider to watch this weekend is Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jordi Tixier as it is his home GP we may see a career best finish. Tixier finished 6th here in 2013 while in the MX2 class.

2016 MXGP of France MXGP Top 3

1. Romain Febvre

2. Tim Gajser

3. Evgeny Bobryshev

MXGP Championship Top Ten: 1. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 305 points; 2. Tim Gajser (SLO, HON), 261 p.; 3. Gautier Paulin (FRA, HUS), 260 p.; 4. Clement Desalle (BEL, KAW), 246 p.; 5. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, YAM), 226 p.; 6. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 221 p.; 7. Evgeny Bobryshev (RUS, HON), 214 p.; 8. Romain Febvre (FRA, YAM), 177 p.; 9. Maximilian Nagl (GER, HUS), 163 p.; 10. Glenn Coldenhoff (NED, KTM), 153 p.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass lost valuable championship points in last weekend but still has a formidable points gap on the field. Jonass is focused on the championship and knows the easiest way claim it is to win races. With little history at the circuit Jonass will try to take his “holeshot machine” to the podium of Ernèe for his first time this weekend.

Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer had a breakthrough performance in Germany where he avoided the mistakes that had cost him in the past and closed the points gap Jonass. Seewer will be looking to do the same this weekend.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen had an up and down weekend in Germany where he was 3rd in race one but fell in race 2. Olsen is third in the championship heading to Ernee.

When you have been battling for podium finishes and then get 8th overall your left wanting more, thats where LRT KTM’s Julien Lieber is right now. Lieber made a few mistakes in Germany and will hope to eliminate them this weekend, his now 4th in the points.

Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 Team’s Benoit Paturel finally found the recipe for a good start in Germany and what a difference it made. Paturel won qualifying and was battling for the lead in race one. France is home to #6 and if the starts go well for Paturel we may see a new winner in MX2 this weekend.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Stephen Rubini is another french rider who hasn’t had the season he’d hoped for. The #118 has only scored 15 championship points this season and he is looking for a breakout performance at home this weekend.
