While the ASTEMO name may be new to some, the engineering heritage behind it is well established. ASTEMO unifies the expertise of Showa and Nissin, two globally respected brands that have played a decisive role in motocross performance and championship success for decades.

Over recent years, ASTEMO has integrated its powertrain, suspension, and brake divisions under one cohesive corporate structure, strengthening technical collaboration across departments. As part of this renewed direction, ASTEMO will maintain a strong and visible presence throughout the MXGP paddock, delivering racing service and technical support to its partner teams. FANTIC FACTORY RACING MXGP ALL SET FOR THE 2026 SEASON

Alberto Forato and Brent Van doninck are all set to launch their 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship campaign aboard the Fantic XXF 450, with Argentina hosting the much-anticipated MXGP season opener in just ten days. The countdown is on.

Building on encouraging pre-season performances, highlighted by a strong second-place finish at the Internazionali d’Italia, Fantic Factory Racing MXGP is looking forward to an exciting 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship campaign. The Grand Prix of Argentina (7–8 March) will kick off a true world tour, with 19 rounds spanning 17 countries across five continents.

Fantic heads into the MXGP season with a renewed team structure and an all-new rider line-up featuring Alberto Forato and Brent Van doninck, under the leadership of former 500cc World Champion Jacky Martens. The passion remains unchanged – and it has driven the entire build-up to the season opener, with a focused winter programme aimed at further enhancing the performance of the Fantic XXF 450.

Close collaboration between the team, the riders and Fantic Racing’s in-house R&D department brings together a wealth of experience and technical expertise – further strengthened by fresh input and the excitement that comes with a new beginning.

Alberto Forato:
“The season opener is always special, but after everything I have been through, it will be even more so this year! I am ready to line up behind the gate again. We continue to work hard, and I already have a great feeling with my Fantic XXF 450. The whole package suits me, and I am having fun riding my bike. I want to be there at every race this season, and staying healthy will be my first goal. The level in MXGP is very high, but I will give it my all to stay as far up front as possible. The feeling is there, and we showed at the Internazionali d’Italia that we are on the right path. Coming back after such a long time off the bike, I didn’t really have any expectations regarding results; I just wanted to see how I felt and gather as much information as possible about the new bike. Everything went well, and getting a podium has motivated me even more for the season ahead.”

Brent Van doninck:
“I am feeling good going into the new season. Staying with the same team but stepping up to a factory ride for 2026, things have turned out perfectly for me. I am confident I can take the next step with the Fantic XXF 450. I feel good on the bike, and there is a really nice atmosphere with the whole Fantic crew. We have a lot of fun, but of course we also know how to be serious when we need to be, and we have been putting in the work to be ready for the MXGP season opener. This year, I really want to focus on being consistent – being there at every race. It will be important to stay healthy, in order to finish strong with a good overall result in the championship. After the past three years, I think that is especially important for me this season. I will do one more pre-season race in Lierop, and then we are ready to go!”

Jacky Martens, Fantic Factory Racing MXGP Team Owner:
“This season marks the start of a new chapter for our team, and we have been working hard together with our staff and everyone at Fantic to be as ready as possible for the upcoming MXGP opener in Argentina. The first pre-season races have already delivered encouraging signs, but it is the work and development taking place behind the scenes that make me even more confident looking ahead. To be in a position to work closely with a factory again is a dream for us, and I have to say I am really impressed with how professionally Fantic’s R&D department operates. With a skilled staff, state-of-the-art facilities and our shared experience, I am sure we can get the maximum out of an already proven package and put Alberto and Brent in the best possible position in a highly competitive MXGP field.”

Davide Guarneri, Fantic Racing’s Motocross Manager:
“There have been significant changes to our MXGP project ahead of this new season: we have a new team structure and two new riders. What has not changed is the spirit with which we approach this challenge. Right from the start, there has been a strong understanding between all the Fantic staff, our in-house R&D department and Jacky Martens’ team. This is crucial in order to grow together. In terms of bike development, we started from last year’s base, when we secured an amazing third place in the championship. For 2026, we have made small refinements and still have possibilities for further improvements, but at the moment the riders seem very satisfied with our current package. The opening MXGP rounds will be the real test, but the initial feedback is encouraging. We started well with a second place at the Internazionali d’Italia, but we are also aware that the World Championship will be an even greater challenge. For Fantic, a very dynamic brand strongly focused on racing, this will be the third year in the premier class of Motocross. We are ready to give our maximum effort to make sure that our journey continues in the best possible way.”

MULTI-TIME CHAMPIONS

When you name the greatest three riders from the last 15 years, there stand three multi-time world champions, who head into 2026 as something of the veterans of the class. Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser with five World Motocross Championships each are without question the big two when it comes to career success, but the third man in this group, Romain Febvre, with his two MXGP Championships is the defending champion and maybe the early favourite for this season.

Herlings, who has spent as much time on the sidelines with injuries as he has holding trophies will line up in 2026 on a red bike, rather than an orange one and it seems this change has given the Dutchman a little more motivation to grab a sixth world title.

“I am definitely looking forward to it,” Herlings said. “I feel like I can still do it if not I wouldn’t have even started you know. Like if I look at the last few races last year when I was healthy you know I won most of them and got like five podiums straight and won three out of last five races I think, so definitely super excited and this is a complete new adventure, a big new motivation, you know after 17 years working with one with one team then going into a new team for your last potential last two or three years of your career makes things quite exciting and just brings a hell a lot of new motivation so yeah definitely be nice to race with the rookies but end of the day this championship is so long with 60 motos so it’s just about consistency. You saw in the past, you saw last year with Febvre just being there every single weekend being consistent I think that’s the thing what will bring you a championship.”

As for Gajser, who like Herlings changed teams in the off-season and will race the Monster Energy Yamaha in 2026 knows that this season will be as spectacular as it is exciting. With his five-world title, and four of those in the MXGP class, Gajser is without question the most successful of the three when it comes to major championships. He knows staying fit is the number one goal in 2026.

“I mean,” Gajser said. “The most important thing… there are several excellent riders in MXGP, especially this year. Some young riders will be coming up from MX2 who are hungry, fit, and fast. So, what matters is believing in yourself, working hard every day, being consistent in races, and also staying healthy. I think that’s fundamental. Because if you’re not healthy, if you get injured, even if it’s just minor aches and pains that prevent you from training at 100%, it can cost you dearly. So, in the end, if you put all these pieces together and the puzzle is complete, you can win the title. I think it’s all of these things together.”

As for Febvre, a third motocross world championship would make him the most successful French rider in the history of the sport, and despite him also being the oldest man in the MXGP class, he feels his speed from 2025, and his consistent performances make winning a third title very possible.

“Yeah,” Febvre said. “It is possible, for sure, I am going for it. We will see. It will be a different year, and some riders are changing teams and brands. Maybe for Jeffrey Herlings and Tim Gajser, it will take a little bit of time to get used to their surroundings. At the same time, yeah, maybe at the beginning of the season I can be better than them and try to fight for GP wins and the championship. Yeah, for sure, if I have a good winter and I am in a good spot, then why not go for three titles?”

So, while names like Lucas Coenen, Kay de Wolf, Tom Vialle and many more will be hunting the veterans down, it is the three multi-time champions that will be a little calmer and cooler under pressure, as they know what it takes to win championships in bunches. Bring on Argentina, it is going to be fantastic.

RECENT PASSING OF ARTHUR LAMPKIN 1938 – 2026

The FIM and Infront Moto Racing has been informed of the sad and recent passing of Arthur Lampkin a former FIM Motocross Grand Prix and Trophee des Nations winner during the early 1960’s. Arthur also won a gold medal at the FIM International Six Days of Enduro in 1966 whilst representing Great Britain as well as being victorious at the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) in 1963 and the Scott Trial  in 1960,1961 and 1965.

The legendary British all round off road rider, who was actually born in Kent – England on 30 May 1938, before moving to Yorkshire three years later, was soon joined by his bothers Alan (aka Sid) and Martin who also both went on to become great motorcyclists in their own rights, with the formidable trio all contributing to make the Lampkin family name renowned the World over.

Arthur’s eldest son John followed in his father’s tyre tracks and became a FIM Trial World Championship round winner in 1983. Whilst John’s brothers Steve and David did not compete at the highest level, Arthur’s nephew Dougie Lampkin reinforced the family’s standing on the international stage as he went on to win twelve FIM World Trial titles during his reign in the late 1990’s early 2000’s.

Riding for the factory BSA racing team, Arthur along with his brother Alan enjoyed some epic battles up against fellow legends and compatriots Dave Bickers and Jeff Smith during the 1960’s, which made them household names in their home country with the national broadcaster (BBC) showing the races live on TV on Saturday afternoons.

During his illustrious career Arthur won seven Grand Prix events and went on to win the 500cc British Motocross Championship in 1959 before following this up in 1961 by also taking the 250cc British title in the same year that he became FIM Vice World Champion in the 250cc class. Arthur recorded back-to-back victories in 1961 and 1962 as member of the British team at the FIM Trophee des Nations.

Having passed away peacefully with his family close by, Arthur will be fondly remembered for his aggressive riding style on track and his straight talking off the bike. The World of motorcycling has lost a true character who was unique in every way.

The FIM and Infront Moto Racing families extend their deepest condolences to the Lampkin family and his many friends, Arthur will be sorely missed by the entire global motorcycle community.

ACU CONFIRMS NEW TEAMGB NATIONAL MOTOCROSS STRUCTURE FOR 2026

The structure of the ACU’s TeamGB national motocross programme will be strengthened in 2026 with the official British Junior World Motocross Championship and FIM Motocross of Nations teams coming together under a new combined squad led by MXoN British Team Manager, Mark Chamberlain and his team.

Introducing a new unified structure will support the development of the UK’s brightest emerging talent by creating closer alignment with riders, management and coaching staff at the top of the senior ranks.

Building a system in which young riders can gain vital skills and experience, allows the ACU to provide a clear pathway for the next generation to become stronger riders – both in their own right and when representing TeamGB.

Aligning TeamGB with the approach taken by other leading European motocross nations including France, Italy, and Spain – as well as the structures that have been successfully introduced in other ACU disciplines like trials, speedway, and enduro – marks a major strategic step forward.

And having a unified national motocross programme will bring fresh opportunities for commercial partners to back the efforts of TeamGB MX riders as they represent their country.

TeamGB Motocross Manager, Mark Chamberlain, said: “This new TeamGB national motocross structure is a big step forward for our sport in the UK. Bringing our junior and senior programmes together gives us the power we need to push our young riders to the next level.

“We’re creating a clearer pathway, putting stronger support in place, and introducing a unified team culture that will drive performance on the world stage. I’m very excited about what this means for our riders, sport, and the future of TeamGB in motocross.”

ACU President, Tim Lightfoot, said: “It’s clear that for British riders and teams to mount a serious and consistent challenge in world motocross, a new performance system is necessary. As the national governing body of motorcycle sport in the UK, the ACU is making a series of strategic decisions to support this aim – this week’s launch of our new High Performance Academy and this national motocross structure are key to achieving our performance targets on the world stage.

“As we enter an exciting new era for British motocross, the ACU would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Dave Willet and his team for the outstanding work they have done, and the success they have achieved with the British Junior World Motocross Championship team during the last three years. Achieving two podiums in that timeframe is a huge achievement and one that the ACU is very proud of.

“The junior team set-up wasn’t in the best shape when Dave took over the reins, but he and his team have worked incredibly hard to turn TeamGB’s fortunes around at junior level. The contribution they’ve made during the last three years will undoubtedly have a bearing on the success that we hope TeamGB will go on to record as a unified motocross unit in the future.”
