Rutledge wraps up another WMX overall

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany), 22 June 2014 – With the sun sneaking through the thick cloud cover that has hovered over the circuit of Teutschenthal this weekend, race two of round five of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship kicked off with the dominating force being none other than the round one winner and early red plate holder Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Meghan Rutledge.

In race one yesterday German fans were brought to their feet with local lady Anne Borchers taking the holeshot. With the top ten riders in the WMX championship this year riding faster than ever, the German couldn’t maintain that position and eventually dropped back to a respectable seventh.

Meanwhile the wild card rider all the way from Brazil, Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Marianna Balbi took the lead on lap one and took charge of the first few laps. As the race approached midway the red plate holder Fonta MX Yamaha Racing’s Chiara Fontanesi dropped the hammer pushing past the SEL supported rider to take over the lead. With Balbi dropping back to second she was left to deal with a ton of pressure from her temporary Bud Racing Kawasaki teammate Meghan Rutledge who eventually found a way through in the final stages of the race. Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot crashed while battling with Balbi and Rutledge for second but managed to recover for fourth with Team Dragon Moto’s Stephanie Laier rounding out the top five.

With the drop of the gate for race two, Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Meghan Rutledge was on a clear mission to take back control of the WMX Championship. The Australian wonder took a massive holeshot leading the red plate holder and race one winner Fonta MX Yamaha Racing’s Chiara Fontanesi around turn one. Despite a brief effort to pressure the girl nicknamed “Mad Meg” for the win, the Italian couldn’t match her blistering speed and ended up coming home in second.

Meanwhile another bad start for Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot left her searching for lines to pass as she put in a tremendous effort to inch her way forward. Come mid race, the French super star had caught up to her long time rival Team Dragon Moto’s Stephanie Laier resulting in a ‘battle of the former champions’ duel for third.

With Laier going wide on a muddy section of the track, Lancelot charged in hard on the gas straight through the middle of the slop to take over the position and maintain it all the way to the finish. Laier kept the twenty-five year old honest, but with the waving of the checkered flag, the German lady had to be content with fourth.

Young Dutch lass onboard her YZ125 two-stroke machine rode solid for fifth, while yesterday’s freshest face in the class Marianna Balbi, started strong but appeared to lose her rhythm mid race meaning she would only come home for eighth.

At the end of the weekend, Australia’s hottest export Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Meghan Rutledge took her third WMX overall of the season, while Fonta MX Yamaha Racing’s Chiara Fontanesi did enough for second. Team One One Four’s Livia Lancelot rounded off the podium with Team Dragon Moto’s Stephanie Laier taking fourth and Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Marianna Balbi rounding out the top five.

As for the championship, Fontanesi will hold onto the red plate with a four point advantage over the nineteen-year-old Rutledge, while Lancelot and Laier, thanks to the absence of Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM’s Natalie Kane, have moved up to third and fourth respectively.

Sensational start to summer for Strijbos and Herlings

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany), 21 June 2014 – While the first day of summer didn’t provide the hot, glorious, blue skied day most had dreamed of, all to do with weather was temporarily forgotten as round eleven of the FIM Motocross World Championship cracked off with a pair of thrilling qualifying heat races which saw Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Kevin Strijbos and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings take qualifying heat glory.

Also tearing up the track under the thick and gloomy cloud cover, round five of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship had their first race of the weekend which saw Fonta MX Yamaha Racing’s Chiara Fontanesi extend her points lead, winning over Bud Racing Kawasaki duo Meghan Rutledge and Marianna Balbi who is a SEL, Sport & Event Logistics, supported wild card entry.

Meanwhile Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Brian Hsu took back a full twenty-five points on championship points leader Red Bull KTM Racing’s Davy Pootjes who fell and was forced to retire with an injured shoulder. Meanwhile following Hsu home De Carli KTM’s Joakin Furbetta wrapped up second ahead of KTM Silver Action’s Michael Ivanov.

The MXGP qualifying heat couldn’t have started any better for the German fans with their star Team HRC’s Max Nagl looking like he never left. Despite only just returning from injury where he had both hands operated on, the German snatched the holeshot from the reigning champ Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, encouraging the crowd to fire up those famous German chainsaws.

Although the air was nippy, the racing was hot with the trio of Belgian’s not wasting anytime in moving forward. Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Kevin Strijbos was the first to make a move for the lead passing Cairoli out of turn one and scrubbing past Nagl to take over first. Before long the other two Belgians, Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek had merged into second and third which forced the local legend back to fourth.

While Cairoli seemed content in fifth, Van Horebeek was serving up pancakes in third throwing a huge scrub over the jump made most famous for American Eli Tomac’s crash during last year’s edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, to pass his countryman Desalle for second.

Coming into the closing stages Nagl had found a way around Desalle who had appeared to have lost his rhythm. With three laps to go, both Van Horebeek and Cairoli decided to turn up the heat. Van Horebeek reeled in countryman Strijbos while Cairoli had his sights on Desalle for fourth. While both put in their best last minute effort, it all was too little to late which allowed Strijbos his third qualifying heat win of the season.

Van Horebeek dropped his head knowing he could have had it in the bag but a few sketchy moments on the last lap forced him to settle for second. Meanwhile Max Nagl took the title of most impressive performance, qualifying third on his return to MXGP. Desalle managed to hold on for fourth while Cairoli rode a conservative race for fifth.

MXGP Qualifying Race top ten: 1. Kevin Strijbos (BEL, Suzuki), 24:54.706; 2. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, Yamaha), +0:02.165; 3. Maximilian Nagl (GER, Honda), +0:06.532; 4. Clement Desalle (BEL, Suzuki), +0:15.964; 5. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), +0:18.336; 6. Steven Frossard (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:23.766; 7. Tommy Searle (GBR, Kawasaki), +0:28.892; 8. Davide Guarneri (ITA, TM), +0:38.691; 9. Shaun Simpson (GBR, KTM), +0:39.992; 10. Gregory Aranda (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:40.770.

With a chilly breeze swirling around the circuit of Teutschenthal, the gates dropped and the holeshot was snatched up by none other than the holeshot master himself KTM Silver Actions José Butrón. With Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings going second around turn one followed by Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser and CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy’s Dylan Ferrandis, the Spaniard Butrón immediately had his work cut out for him.

Digging deep, Butrón led the first three quarters of a lap before having the red plate holder Herlings launch past him over the triple while he, Butrón, opted to double up rather than clear all three.

With Herlings taking over the lead Gajser and Ferrandis knew they had no time to waste and soon pushed past last years number three to take over the second and third positions. With Gajser and Ferrandis going through, Butron was dropped back to fourth and was forced to deal with a load of pressure from BikeIT Yamaha Cosworth’s Max Anstie who finally got off to a decent start.

Before long Anstie had taken over fourth, but only lasted a brief moment, for on lap four the Brit was nowhere to be seen leaving fourth to the Red Bull KTM Factory bike of Jordi Tixier. Meanwhile Kemea Yamaha Racing’s Petar Petrov was putting in a remarkable ride, keeping Tixier in striking distance in fifth.

Coming into the closing stages of the race, the flying Dutchman had already checked out, leaving the feud of the moto to Gajser and Ferrandis. While Ferrandis threw everything he could at Gajser in effort to push past, the hearty Slovenian wouldn’t relent and managed to hold on for his best qualifying heat finish. Ferrandis was forced to settle for third with Tixier and Petrov rounding out the top five.

As for  CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy's Arnaud Tonus, bad luck has struck the super talented Swiss once again when a big nose-dive over the triple saw him crash and dislocate his shoulder in free practice this morning.

MX2 Qualifying Race top ten: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 24:47.554; 2. Tim Gajser (SLO, Honda), +0:19.575; 3. Dylan Ferrandis (FRA, Kawasaki), +0:21.716; 4. Jordi Tixier (FRA, KTM), +0:32.092; 5. Petar Petrov (BUL, Yamaha), +0:37.473; 6. Valentin Guillod (SUI, KTM), +0:37.854; 7. Jose Butron (ESP, KTM), +0:46.284; 8. Aleksandr Tonkov (RUS, Husqvarna), +0:48.752; 9. Mel Pocock (GBR, KTM), +0:50.705; 10. Damon Graulus (BEL, KTM), +0:52.220.

KANE WILL NOT RACE IN GERMANY

It is with great regret that Natalie Kane has to announce that she will not race the next Grand Prix in Teutschenthal, Germany this weekend for round five of the FIM Women’s World Motocross Championship due to the ongoing effects of her injury after a crash just under a month ago.
The Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM racer was involved in a collision with another rider two weeks before the last Grand Prix while contesting a Swedish National championship event, in which she competes to keep race fit.

Natalie was diagnosed with concussion at the time, but was cleared by doctors to race the last Grand Prix in France, where she was still feeling the effects of the injury, although she did manage to post top six results.

Unfortunately with the blurred vision and light-headedness continuing, Natalie sought further medical advice with a specialist, Professor Peter Richardson, in London, UK who confirmed that Natalie, despite nothing being seriously wrong, still has fluid around the brain. It has been deemed too unsafe for Natalie to race for both herself and her fellow competitors, especially as she is also at risk of second impact syndrome.

This comes as a huge blow to the KTM racer, as she has taken podiums in all of the rounds this year except the last race in France, while she has also led the championship, receiving her first ever red plate at the Italy round of the series, and remained in contention for the FIM Women’s World Championship title even after the last race. The Irish lady is bitterly disappointed, but her health remains at the highest of priorities and the risk is just too high, especially having not been able to ride or train during the week.
Natalie should hopefully be fit enough to race the final round in the Czech Republic in the middle of July.

Natalie Kane #44:
“What can I say really. Gutted doesn’t even come close, especially as the crash wasn’t my mistake, but it was just one of those racing incidents. I felt strong enough to race in France and I wanted to keep in a chance for the title after being cleared to ride. The results were definitely not where they should have been and I still felt quite strange over the weekend, so I went to see a specialist in London to get looked at in more detail, and he confirmed I still have some fluid around the brain. Thankfully there is nothing really serious wrong, but the risk to both myself and other competitors is too high, as I still am feeling unwell and I haven’t been anywhere near a bike to train. That’s the championship over for me, and right now I don’t have much more to say other than I have to wait for the condition to improve before I can train or ride. I'm really devastated, as so much effort has been put into this. I'd like to thank everyone for their on-going support.”

Team Manager of Kane's team, Hitachi Construction Machinery UK KTM's Roger Maggee said:
"Following Natalie's crash in Sweden several weeks ago it was obvious that she was still suffering after-effects, which required further medical investigation. After a consultation with Professor Peter Richardson in London, he has recommended that she must rest for at least another four weeks before he examines her again to see if she can restart training and practicing. Natalie's health is much more important than any race and, although it is a disappointment to her and the team as she is still very much in contention for the 2014 FIM Women's World Motocross Championship, her long-term well being is the the only subject that we are focussing on."

MXGP's early summer harvest set to bloom in Teutschenthal

TEUTSCHENTHAL (Germany), 18 June 2014 - The small municipality of Teutschenthal, home to around 15,000 people, was put on the map last year after hosting what was arguably the most spectacular Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in the history of our sport. The track known to the locals as ‘Talkessel’ offers a gnarly hard packed surface with loads of elevation and a wide variety of jumps and obstacles for riders to get creative on, which in the past has seen an abundance of different Grand Prix winners, a whopping thirty-eight to be exact.

This weekend the spectator friendly circuit of Teutschenthal will set the stage for MXGP of Germany, round eleven of the FIM Motocross World Championship which will mark a timely return for Germany’s number one contender this year HRC Team’s Max Nagl.

Also taking to the traditional yet modernized circuit this weekend, rounds five of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, where the reigning champ Team MX Fonta Racing Yamaha’s Chiara Fontanesi leads Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Australian Meghan Rutledge by a minuscule four points, and the European Championships EMX125 where Red Bull KTM Racing’s Davy Pootjes has a healthy fifty-seven point advantage over last rounds winner Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe’s Brian Hsu.

Round three of the Honda European Championship EMX150 will also take place with young Fin Jere Haavisto carrying the red plate.

MXGP

Coming fresh off of his inspirational victory at his home Grand Prix last weekend, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli has the chance to break a record this weekend at MXGP of Germany. If the Italian star manages to bag another win, he will make history as Teutschenthal’s most successful rider. At the moment the twenty-eight-year-old has won three FIM Motocross World Championship rounds at this circuit and currently shares the spot at the top of the charts with three other legends, Stefan Everts, Joel Smets and Mikael Pichon, who also have won three Grand Prix’ here.

How dangerous will the Belgians be this weekend? After winning the 2013 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations at this very circuit, the Belgians Jeremy Van Horebeek, Clement Desalle and Ken De Dycker will rock up this weekend with some of their sweetest memories. Although the team won the coveted Chamberlain Trophy, that particular weekend didn’t end so well for Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle, as he was forced to celebrate with a broken shoulder which later required surgery. As for his Rockstar Energy Suzuki World teammate Kevin Strijbos, who was Team Belgium’s reserve rider, this weekend is the weekend to prove had he of been on the main team, they still would have been just as successful.

As for Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jeremy Van Horebeek, the good feeling the track brings could carry him to his highly anticipated first ever MXGP win, while Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Ken de Dycker could also use the confidence of his last moto at MXoN as well as his 2010 FIM Motocross World Championship victory at the iconic circuit to his advantage as he continues his come back from a severe injury he received over six months ago.

No stranger to success around the choppy German circuit, last weekend’s fifth place receiver DP19 Racing Yamaha’s David Philippaerts also won a round of the FIM Motocross World Championship way back in 2007.

Meanwhile the German fans can get excited for the return of their hero Team HRC’s Max Nagl, who will be back on the grid after breaking both hands which were operated on back in early may. To celebrate, Nagl, thanks to his sponsor FOX Europe, is giving away a full set of his limited edition FOX race gear in a competition running on MXGP’s facebook page which can be accessed by clicking here.

German KTM Sarholz rider Dennis Ullrich has been on the verge of cracking the top ten at the last two rounds of MXGP with two eleventh place overalls. With the support of the locals, his family and friends, his home Grand Prix this weekend could deliver his best result yet.

MXGP World Championship Classification Top Ten: 1. Antonio Cairoli (ITA, KTM), 443 points; 2. Clement Desalle (BEL, SUZ), 405 p.; 3. Jeremy Van Horebeek (BEL, YAM), 402 p.; 4. MX2

It’s crunch time for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings as he looks to join the winners’ circle at Teutschenthal for the first time in his career.

After landing on the third step of the box here back in 2012, CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy’s Arnaud Tonus will be hoping to inch closer to ‘The Bullet’ Herlings, and hopefully stand a little higher this weekend.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jordi Tixier has been gradually improving from race to race which has already paid dividends as he took over third overall in the championship standings last weekend in Maggiora. Although things are moving in the right direction, there’s no room for error for the Frenchmen with two of his fellow countrymen, Romain Febvre and Dylan Ferrandis hot on his heels.

Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre is eager for a top three finish at the end of the season. It is the last year in MX2 for the Frenchman, and with this year being his last chance for a top three in the MX2 world championship, you can bet your boots he’ll be fighting to the finish.

Meanwhile the third Frenchman to slot into the top five, CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy’s Dylan Ferrandis has got the goods for a podium finish, with the only question mark resting on the young style-master’s consistency.

As for the youngest competitor in MX2, Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser is Honda’s hottest signing for 2015. The seventeen-year-old Slovenian has already proven his talent with his first podium finish at Matterley Basin last month and has already labeled himself as one to watch in the very near future.

MX2 World Championship Classification Top Ten: 1. Jeffrey Herlings (NED, KTM), 444 points; 2. Arnaud Tonus (SUI, KAW), 389 p.; 3. Jordi Tixier (FRA, KTM), 331 p.; 4. Brazilian beauty to race MXGP of Germany

One of the world’s leading companies in sport and event logistics, and the official carrier partner of the FIM Motocross World Championship, SEL, is once again proving their commitment to sporting events and the participating athletes by assisting one of the world’s best female riders, Brazilian Mariana Balbi, to make the journey over from her home in Brazil to race WMX at MXGP of Germany which is set to take place on the renowned circuit of Teutschenthal on the weekend of June 22.

SEL’s passion for sport is second to none, the company whose name ‘SEL’ stands for Sport & Events Logistics backs all sports from football right through to motorsport and cares for both male and female divisions with their support for the first ever female to score a FIM Motocross World Championship point against the men, a prime example.

Mariana Balbi was the first ever woman to qualify for a FIM Motocross World Championship event and claim FIM Motocross World Championship points against the big boys. Back in 2009, the brave Brazilian beauty rode her Honda CRF450 to a remarkable 24th and 20th place finish for 24th overall at her home Grand Prix of Brazil, writing her name in the history books as the first ever woman to score MXGP (then named MX1) points.

Almost five years on, Balbi, who now rides Kawasaki in Brazil, has received support from SEL, Sport & Event Logistics, to travel to the circuit most famous for the 2013 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, to line up and test her skills against the best female motocross riders in the world. “We have a long lasting relationship with Mr. Pier Carlo Bottero, CEO of SEL, and after meeting him at MXGP of Brazil in Beto Carrero we went to dinner and I explained to him I have always wanted to race in Europe, but I have never had the opportunity to race here. Mr. Bottero offered to help me get here and race, so he spoke to Bud Racing Kawasaki and they agreed to help me with a bike. Thanks to SEL and Bud Racing I can be here to race the WMX for the first time and hopefully bring home a top five result,” an excited Balbi said.

Balbi and her brother Antonio Balbi, who is also a pro motocross rider and will be Mariana’s mechanic in Germany, landed in Malpensa, Italy, a couple of days ago right in time to watch MXGP of Italy, which is taking place this weekend at the iconic Maggiora motocross park. “Wow this is amazing, it’s like a dream for me!” Balbi said, “we will watch this GP here in Maggiora and then we will go to France to ride the bike somewhere close to Biarritz before heading to MXGP of Germany, I’m really looking forward to it.”
